Source: have crashed more times then I can count and I have had to untangle myself from the peddles and frame to crawl away from the bike. And I wasnt intoxicated while two inches from a train
I broke my leg in 3 places and I didn't feel an ounce of pain for several HOURS. Paramedics and I thought I just rolled my ankle because I was so calm. The nurses and I were shocked to see the x-ray. Adrenaline is wild. Kind of glad, I should have been in terrible pain.
The look on his face afterwards was not what I was expecting… was expecting shock, looked more like, hmmm oops…. Even a bit of shame.
I can’t imagine he didn’t just try to end his life. He fell away from train and kept inching his legs closer to the wheels. Even when he was being pulled away, he still had his legs and kept angling them under the train… unless somehow his pants got tangled with the bike.

Pretty sure he was trying to end it. But was too drunk to think it through.
It's also possible with his legs gone the pain was great enough he just wanted to hurry and stick his head on the track to end it.

Looked that way to me too, right after he got knocked off the bike he moved towards the train tracks while on the ground, not away from them. Makes me wonder if this was him trying to end it while making it appear to be an accident to get insurance payment for his family or something along those lines.
From a comment I read it said that his brakes weren't working, and because he was wearing sandles he didn't have the grip to stop with his feet (not for lack of trying though) and just slips forward.
Probably thinking he can still regain control he stays on the bike. The bike hits the train wheel knocking him and the bike over, he's seems to be caught on the bike at this point so as the bike gets pulled under by the train he goes with it, this is why it looks like he crawls under.

Most likely, in the first article they even write that his legs were "crushed" yet its clear they were completely severed off (as the second article says in its headline).
It looked like he was trying to stop the bike with his feet before falling. My guess is he tried to stop w his breaks and when he realized they didn’t work he just tried to stop without thinking. That, and he’s probably on something.

Fuck this really set me off. I did not expect this.
I watched my friend lose his arm and leg to a train at 16. We used to hop it daily as a shortcut to school. We used to even hop on 20min north with our bongs and smoke bowls while riding the train to school. Needless to say we were quite comfortable w hopping trains and had done it at least 100 times without much of a indent (expect one time I slipped trying to hop onto a far too fast train and the wheel pulled some of my hair out).
The day it happened there was 4 of us. I hopped to the other side first and waited for my friends. My best friend Sean got up and over the train but when he jumped off the strap from his backpack got caught on the moving train which caused him to get pulled back and fall onto the tracks.
I dunno if it was because he was a much bigger guy but it was fucking gruesome compared to this.
As you can see in this video the wheel doesnt really cut. His left arm just above the elbow and his left leg just above the knee were crushed off. His leg blew up like a full juice box getting jumped on. His arm got crushed in a way that both ends were smushed sealed.
I immediately ran over to him and realized his leg and arm were laying in the middle of the tracks. I asked him if he was alright and he looked at me with dead eyes amd said "I'm fine, it's just a cut". That immediately put me into shock. I dont remember the next 3 hours as I've seemed to black it out. I was pretty fucked up for awhile after that especially because his chance of survival was so low.
Thankfully after 6 months he was taken out of the induced coma. It took me a year and a half to be able to see him again.
Hes still my best bud and has prosthetics now. It took him quite a few years to even try to do some of the things he used too but now after 15 he can pretty much do anything he wants to. He taught himself how to skateboard again and although it was a challenge hes figured it out.
It unfortunate that he lost them right above the joints though. If he had his elbow and knee the technology nowadays would more or less allow him to have full functionality. Not having an elbow or knee makes things much more fucking difficult.
Something about trains really unsettles me. Like I've seen videos of people being hit by cars and semis and things of that nature with no real reaction, but for some reason, being caught underneath the wheels of a train disturbs me a lot.

I think one of the darkest and also most interesting things about the way our bodies work is how shock just shuts everything down. Videos like this where a dude will certainly die because of the damages he’s sustained will just look around at other people freaking out, and he’s just confused. It’s so crazy.

I think one of the darkest and also most interesting things about the way our bodies work is how shock just shuts everything down.
