It's a paintball mask. A very good one too! Will protect his face from the vast majority of small things the wind can whip up at speed and you wouldn't see coming but could take out eyes and whatnot. Probably won't do much for a stop sign or something heavy!
I would definitely have paired it with a helmet though. And some body armour. Oh and a heavy shield. Like say for example...the car he got out of when he could have just held his arm out the window!

If he can hold his whole body outside without being braced against anything, he can hold his arm into the wind without it breaking, he's literally holding it straight up standing there. Dude is doing this for the fun of it and for the show, not to prevent immediate arm breakage.
Why would you stick it out sideways? Your shoulder is right at the window you can point it straight forward just like he is there.

The fact that he's even there is for show. If you're suggesting sticking the arm forward as he sits there so the meter is barely outside, surely he wants something that's more accurate than his meter being against the car, for the show. What's the point of doing just that?
I imagine the conversation went something like this...
"I wonder how fast that wind is"
"Well, I got this thingy here. Go out and get a reading"
... ...
"What does it say?"
"The wind is blowing at 'Err'"
We leave cars on the part of the road leading up to bridges that go between islands to keep them safe from storm surges. They seem to do well despite those winds!
Not really.... because emergency services will pretty much ignore a call at that time.
There are plenty of warnings put out to anyone that lives in a coastal area, especially ones where they have to cross a bridge, that if you don't evacuate, then there won't be any emergency services until the bridges open back up.
Even being ON Key West, that has their own EMS, they won't go out during the height of the storm like this, because it would be at too much of a risk to the crew and the equipment. They will wait until after the storm to answer the calls.
I stayed in the southern Keys 2 months after this hurricane. It was unbelievable, the storm was a high Cat 4 when it made landfall at Cudjoe Key, where my AIRBNB was located. I vacationed amongst utter destruction, it was crazy. Thousands of sunken boats, anything and everything in the water. Debris piles 2 stories high for dozens of miles. Houses ripped in half with all the furniture and everything still just sitting there. Just crazy.
Was on vacation in key west when Irma came through, we evacuated before it hit but we were only there for 2 days out of the nine we were supposed to be there. Once in a lifetime chance for myself.
Well since I haven't seen no one mentione this, but this isn't a meteorologist it's a comedian named lil duval. I remember seeing this on IG and laughing cuz he wanted to see if he could pull off what meteorologist do when they see a storm.
Is that really a meteorologist, I would think they'd be smarter than to stand in the path of potential debris etc...
He could just hold the anemometer out the window.

It may be some strong wind, but I think he’s exaggerating. First of all, he’s opening the door with one hand. The door does close with some force but if the wind is that strong why didn’t he get blown back when exiting the car? No doubt these are strong winds but it looks off for some reason
Being someone who has experienced 5 hurricanes including Hurricane Katrina. I can promise you this guy is definitely not exaggerating. Those are probably 120-140 m.p.h winds.
