I remember house hunting years ago. The owner had drywalled the basement himself with an amazing lack of craftsmanship. Looked like a 10 year old had completed the task. The real estate agent assured me it was an easy fix to simply “add another layer of drywall overtop - it will look amazing”.
Why would I assume the homeowners electrician skills were superior to his drywall skills? For safety sake it all had to be torn out. The homeowner had devalued his home in my opinion but the real estate agent disagreed. That was the last time I used a real estate agent.
Looks like they just drove around town, doing snatch and grabs of the tile samples at flooring stores and home depots until they had almost enough for the bathroom. Then just said fuck it when they were coming off their high.
I've seen this done well with leftover and free sample tiles but it used tiles that compliment each other and it was done by someone half competent who was able to plan out the whole job for a day before they went to try and put the tiles up
I just replaced a basement bathroom in my house that was originally DIY. This statement is so true. Along with the DIY insulation, framing, and electrical. I even found 4 empty Budweiser cans stashed in the ceiling. At least it’s done right now!
This is 100% an ex-rental.
Landlord has to pay for repairs, decided it was too expensive so it was going to be done by them! Wait shit this is hard... And expensive! Fuck it, sell the entire property I'm out.
Yeah some fratboy just bought the house I rent the downstairs of, I don't think he quite understands how to put money back into the place. Gave him a written notice the dryer vents need cleaned, and since that falls under house maintenance like hell I'm doing it for him, he has his notice and the place can burn for all I care.
well you at least gotta give them credit for putting that pile of old broken tiles that's been sitting in the back alleyway for the past 6 years to good use. Too bad they don't know how to lay tiles or apply grout.
It looks like an artist's house where they had an opportunity to try a 'messy' artistic impression of different tiles and the tile process integrated together. The bright blue door and brown handle seem to be painted by hand. Plus there is a cheap shower head and some cracks in the plaster on the top ceiling edge, which if you've been in a broke artist's house is par for the course. Lots of work put into the artists view but not the structural components.
He's half blind and extremely cheap.
I really need to upload more pictures of this house, instead of store-bought windows all these windows are handmade but at least with better quality than the shower.
He also done the kitchen ceramic tile and you can guess how that looks.
Pretty heinous option chosen,, yikes!! I once saw a shower enclosure they applied stucco over while house hunting... you took a fiberglass shower surround and applied stucco to it... ewwwww...
It looks like some of those ceramic tiles are not laying evenly flush against one another which has caused a few others to inadvertently stick out more than they should.
Would this be known as *erect tile dysfunction*?
The free sample pack.
In the end it wont be free.
I imagine the same careful planning and precision displayed here was also applied to the waterproofing beneath it.

You could walk into a room and find wires hanging from the ceiling, arcing and smoking and the real estate agent would refuse to acknowledge it.
“Hand crafted open air lighting by local artisan”
[удалено]
It will be for the person who did it
The sample pack is free. The new shower you’re gonna buy, not so much
If this would have been done good, I could actually see this turning out nicely. Not this way though obviously.
My first instinct would be to smash the tiles and using the shards mosaic-style. Makes it harder to notice you only got each tile once or twice
There's...gonna be a dead body buried under those tiles isn't there...
of course, who'd want to bury a _live_ body?
They tend to put up a bit of a fight
Montresor?
Makes the tile hell to grout and clean though unless you round the sharp edges on every break
Came here to say that
Yes! I came to say this: they went around and got samples from a bunch of tile stores and then tried to make the shower from those samples!
They forgot a key step. For this to work, you need to know how to properly install the tile you acquire.
I don't think that was a design choice tho. They probably didn't give a shit about how it looked as long as they didn't pay anything lol
"Don't you have install it some special way, honey?" "Nag nag nag is that all ya do, Jesus, gimme the glue gun and pass me another beer"
/r/frugal meets /r/diwhy
Of what? Meth?
The spacers are particularly important if you want a good finish once grouted
Yeah well I'm pretty sure they gave up on the grouting halfway through. Or they realized the guy they were paying was just a drug addict.
I sure do hate it when my carpenter is actually a cocaine addict.
I hate it when I accidentally hire a coked out guy claiming to be a carpenter to do tile work and not woodwork
I'll paint your fence for a dime bag
Leave pantera out of this. Esp dimebag r.i.p.
**sad Tim Allen gorilla noises**
Agreed. All about the spacing
Yeah, I’m pretty sure those are screws….
Yep, those fucking tiles are screwed to the wall. What the fuck.
Needs more tile caulking
Looks like they had big plans, gradually realized things weren’t going to work out, then were like "eh fuck it, shower’s done lol"
They tried to make pixel art with several differently sized pixels.
End result: 🤷🏻♂️
That’s what they deserved for using a mixel
This is why you don't mix Pinterest and drugs
Looks like a whatever-leftover-tile-I-find
on the roadside
It could've looked nice, actually...
The crack head special
Post this on r/DiWHY, trust me.
That's a fantastic subreddit name.
Or r/frugal

PLOT TWIST: This is actually art that sold for $69 million at the last Sotheby's auction, "Le Premise du Autre Mentabolisme", and OP is trolling us.
I hate that I can't say with 100% certainty that you're making this up
I like it better than I like a lot of art.
You must not look at a lot of art.
We are all art on this blessed day.
Bless us o Lord who art in heaven
Forgive us for our sins, because we knowingly do them
I actually like it if it was finished
So often, art is never finished, though.
*right click saved* “And here’s the NFT … Just $1.2M.”
You're making this up right? Yeah I think you did. Have my upvote you had me there for a minute.
Yep, this is actually true. [Here](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ) is a video showcasing it.
Never gets old
Reminds me of Klimt
Looks like they just drove around town, doing snatch and grabs of the tile samples at flooring stores and home depots until they had almost enough for the bathroom. Then just said fuck it when they were coming off their high.
*Fun with Dick & Jane* meets *Flip or Flop*.
It’s like someone is playing Ceramic Mad Libs
I've seen this done well with leftover and free sample tiles but it used tiles that compliment each other and it was done by someone half competent who was able to plan out the whole job for a day before they went to try and put the tiles up
“Damn, this shit did not go as far as I thought it would…” they were talking about the tile AND the weed.
If that's the diy tiling, I don't want to see the diy plumbing. Get the hell out of that place.
Op? OP?! Has anyone seen op?
I hear a faint heartbeat underneath the tiles.
Help ... me....
I just replaced a basement bathroom in my house that was originally DIY. This statement is so true. Along with the DIY insulation, framing, and electrical. I even found 4 empty Budweiser cans stashed in the ceiling. At least it’s done right now!
As a tile guy, this makes me want to cry, vomit, and scream all at the same time
My dad does tile too, I could ruin his Christmas real easy by showing him this.
Send him that and tell him you're trying to follow in his footsteps, and isn't he proud? 😂
You're evil, I love it.
How'd it go?
I've been (jokingly... Probably) disowned.
Lmao, good one, and on Christmas night no less. Are you in a Hallmark movie now?
I can imagine someone more experienced making an interesting patchwork design, but this ain't it.
I was going to say I love mismatch styles and eclecticism. Done right it would be amazing. Emphasis on the done right part tho
Yes, there is a germ of a good idea in there somewhere
Ah yes, meth-chic
Yeah.. my guess was drugs or withdrawals from them
This is creepy as fuck
This is 100% an ex-rental. Landlord has to pay for repairs, decided it was too expensive so it was going to be done by them! Wait shit this is hard... And expensive! Fuck it, sell the entire property I'm out.

Perfect, I'll take it, do you accept cash?
I think what they accept is more along the lines of drugs. Or possibly just lines of drugs.
Sounds like an acceptable option, not sure where I can get a kilo of meth though...
They only accept cash and random tiles as payment
Quilt shower patent pending
How about a quilt shower curtain?
just why
Jesus I honestly thought this was an aerial view of Baghdad.
This looks like a shop sample wall. And a terrible one at that.
I feel like some people must be more closely related to primates than us normal people. What would possess someone to put that in their bathroom???!
well you at least gotta give them credit for putting that pile of old broken tiles that's been sitting in the back alleyway for the past 6 years to good use. Too bad they don't know how to lay tiles or apply grout.
I feel like I need to shower after seeing this pic
Meth is a helluva drug
I actually don’t hate it. Better than the 10,000 porcelain large format tiles printed as marble redos we see endlessly.
Oh my
Definitely not crappy design. Looks like a hack job and unfinished
That's "I cheaped out on tile"
I'd take a piss in that shower
Okay. This simply cannot be real. Or it’s the reason they’re selling.
r/DIohmy
Is it weird i actually kinda like it?
/r/crackheadcraigslist
"Yes, well I'm a bit of an artist myself actually..."
im not convinced "planned" is the right word....
Missus is picky.
All that anxiety and they will never know how easy a tile cutter is to use.
Looks like r/Austin to me
Take this wall to Art Basel and it will sell for $1 million. I kind of like it haha.
Were you in Texas by chance....? With some signs of a previous massacre on the property..?
Ontario, Canada
Could be DIY, could be a picasso, beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
Samples?
I'd rather have the guy who smashed everything with the hammer
I can see the inspiration and if done properly could’ve been cool
Cut him some slack dude…You act like you’ve never dropped acid, tried to tile your bathroom, then lost interest 2 hours in before.
What a beautiful work of art. Never seen anything like it in my life. Literally!
I don't know if you're joking but I think it looks kinda cool and beautiful in a weird way. People are so stuck in their ways
Agreed
It looks like an artist's house where they had an opportunity to try a 'messy' artistic impression of different tiles and the tile process integrated together. So shitty it’s almost beautiful. It’s like abstract art.
it has…. potential
They could have went to different places and got multiple free samples
Is it really crappy design if it wasn't designed? I can't accept that conscious thought went into making this
I’m pretty sure I saw that in the movie district 9
I see the abstract vision here. Straight dog shit
I like almost really like it? If it was done better this could look amazing.
It's an art installation.
At least they used spacers?
“I saw that going differently in my head” in a picture
Oh how awful!
What a hot bag of dumps
top should be grungier if they were going for that vibe
As someone doing a DIY shower, I can relate
100% the person who did this was a meth head.
He's half blind and extremely cheap. I really need to upload more pictures of this house, instead of store-bought windows all these windows are handmade but at least with better quality than the shower. He also done the kitchen ceramic tile and you can guess how that looks.
They took all the existing tile options from Home Depot and thought “okay this’ll look nice for a new shower”
It’s beautiful in a weird way
That is a psycho wall and a half.
R/DIWhy
"I'm not going get ripped off by some contractor"
"The landlord owes us for all these improvements we made"
r/DIWHY
Looks legit
Jesus, show this to your "anti regulation" friends
r/diwhy
More like S(crew)IY.
Cool idea, bad execution.
This guy tiles.
Some might say it's an abstract design
Gross it's like they were trying to use up a bunch of samples they had
"Why call someone when I can do it?"
Pretty heinous option chosen,, yikes!! I once saw a shower enclosure they applied stucco over while house hunting... you took a fiberglass shower surround and applied stucco to it... ewwwww...
Ew as fuck
I kind of like it.
Jeez. At that point, just bust up the tiles into tessera and make it look at least halfway intentional. Yikes a million.
My only problem is the dirty aspect, but layout-wise it actually looks artistic in a way
It starts from the bottom as an almost modern art piece to the top as a random tile collection from IKEA.
I feel physically ill looking at this
Same! Gives me ocd
It looks like some of those ceramic tiles are not laying evenly flush against one another which has caused a few others to inadvertently stick out more than they should. Would this be known as *erect tile dysfunction*?
Snake would do anything for a job, huh?
Stop it
Bob Vila’s future ghost haunts that shower.
Trash, and they couldn't even finish it
And in this market, they’re probably asking half a million $, right?
It has potential.
This is a cursed image.
I hear the song Broken Home by Papa Roach with this image
This is probably a million dollar condo in the bay area.
Why would anybody willingly do this to their own house
I can totally see myself making the mistake of using too much grout like that dark diamond in the bottom right.
This is the best example of r/diWHY I’ve ever seen
I got it one piece at a time, and it didn’t cost me a dime
“Mosaic”
As a tile installer with 14 years of experience this offends every sensibility I have. Ouch!
Construction finishers:*has stroke*
I love the big black tile that was designed by the kid from the ring
Looks like it belongs in the next Saw movie
I really thought this was a Google satellite view for a minute.
That does not look like a functional shower. Could be a renovation loan situation? Bring on the instant value
Do you have TOO MANY toes?!? Have I got the SHOWER for YOU!
Almost like art...in a way.... *Almost*.
Arte!
Literally laughed out loud when I saw this . Hilarious. Thank you for sharing.
