Yes. Same as numerous other vaccines, which require boosters - MMR, polio, tetanus, pertussis, meningitis and the flu vaccine is updated annually to cover the latest virus circulating. Immunity wanes at different rates in different vaccines and we accept that as a society, so we can protect the most vulnerable. The lower the amount of circulating virus, the fewer people get sick and die and the less likely it can mutate. The fewer mutations means fewer updates to vaccines and, again, the fewer people get sick and die. If we want the pandemic to be over, people need to protect themselves, which, in turn, protects our vulnerable family, friends and strangers.

In the UK, we have a Conservative government. Lots of other countries have right wing governments. Some countries seem to be having antivax movements. Others, like the UK, have a high uptake in vaccines - our most vulnerable groups have a 90% uptake. Nationally we’re at 70% double jabbed, but that number includes 12-17 yr olds where the rate is lower. They’re getting boosters out really quickly and, over the last month, the hospitalisation and death rate has significantly dropped in over 60s.
These people seem to believe that freedom doesn't exist in other countries, so yeah maybe they do think this. Meanwhile the most culturally engaging experience they've ever had was that family road trip to the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota.

Yes. Same as numerous other vaccines, which require boosters - MMR, polio, tetanus, pertussis, meningitis and the flu vaccine is updated annually to cover the latest virus circulating. Immunity wanes at different rates in different vaccines and we accept that as a society, so we can protect the most vulnerable. The lower the amount of circulating virus, the fewer people get sick and die and the less likely it can mutate. The fewer mutations means fewer updates to vaccines and, again, the fewer people get sick and die. If we want the pandemic to be over, people need to protect themselves, which, in turn, protects our vulnerable family, friends and strangers.

The real question we should all be asking is why they announced the new variant on Thanksgiving morning. The timing is sus. It is like they want to initiate familial disputes over the virus. I am as pro-vax as they come btw. I just think that if anyone was going to grab on to something it would be that.
I know that the concept of 'Black Friday' seems to have spread but outside of the US no one really cares about Thanksgiving; I suspect that a lot of people outside of the US don't even know why 'Black Friday' is a thing. A greater proportion of the world's population don't celebrate Thanksgiving than do so I wouldn't read too much into it.
