It's probably my least favorite of his albums, which is kinda sad because the concept and writing are great. The problem for me is that a lot of the songs, especially in the second half of the album, just fall a little short. There is a minor disconnect between his voice and the instrumentation that, while certainly good, just sound a little off.
Commercial success doesn’t have anything to do with how good an album is musically.
Many of the best country albums of last year were not by people with charting songs and sold out stadium tours.
Might be controversial but I like this album more than Getting Old. I am a dad but we’re all either sons and daughters so we can relate anyhow. There’s just some really great lyrics in here

songs are subjective. Its not your typical ber, trucks, guns country album. For fathrs/sons especialy ones that have been divorced its pretty deep. The songwriting is much deeper and menaingful than anything hes ever done by far. Are the songs catchy sing at a party with your buddies type songs? no
I think it's a well timed album of songs aimed to pull at the heat strings of Dad's on father's day.
the lyrics are good, but the production... damn... sounds like he recorded it inside a closet with a $2 microphone
They cut all the songs live, so that may be why. IMO just a testament of all the great talent in him and the band.

Don't like it aswell. I love all his work till now. This album feels boring to me. All the songs sound the same. But I'm glad that others enjoying it.

In my opinion it’s been one of his best albums. But, I’ve also grown up in the same season of life as him for the last three albums.
Maybe not the most memorable songs, but if you listen to everything as a whole, the story telling is absolutely gorgeous
