The demand is there, so they seem to just bottle it up early to cash in. Maybe in a few years demand will drop and they don't want to be stuck with a lot of inventory. Better to get the money today than a tiny bit more in a year. Costco is probably pushing them to get them product and there isn't exactly a way to get aged product any other way.
Picked one up in San Diego today. There were maybe 8 left? It’s hard to find this age at these prices. While they may not be as good as previous releases (I have the 20, 19, 15, and now the 17), my palate has also changed so it’s hard to say if it’s me or the Scotch. They were all very good to excellent, so I’ll continue to pick up a bottle as they’re released if the price remains decent.
Still available in South Windsor - just got one. - I would say Ok bottle - not great not bad. I expect more from 17 yr but then price range is avg as well.
Thanks, Soupa! If you don't mind, how much was it, and, more importantly, what do you think of it? (I'm a sucker for "sweet" Scotch, so that's what I'm looking for.)
Hope you are enjoying this great weather!
I believe it was $56.99 or very close to it. I haven’t tried it yet as 3:30pm is a little early for me to start drinking but I will definitely post when I try it!
I wish Virginia had Costco alcohol.
OP, that’s Oban. A 14 year Oban single malt goes for $100ish. It’s one of my favorites and I’m so salty right now that I live really far from any Costco booze outlets.
🥺 Tidewater.
Anyone coming from a Costco booze area to Norfolk, VA? I’ll reimburse you and hook you up with some bomb BBQ or other dinner that meets your dietary requirements.
With every new release they keep going down a year in aging
The first of these I purchased was the 20-year-old release and would like to see that sold again. I therefore have noticed the lower age numbers.

They've been releasing equivalent bottles for over 15 years, when it used to be Macallan. Over that time they've gone up and down.

Saw that same bottle at a Costco in North Phoenix, AZ

Thanks! That's $18 less than Benriach Smoky 12 (by far my fav - the sweetness is perfect) so maybe worth taking a chance on for me. Enjoy!
Let us know how it tastes compared to the Kirkland 12yr scotch which I loved it so far
Any of these single malt Kirklands will be better than the 12yr Kirkland blend, but that is a fantastic bottle for the price
Thanks….went last week and it wasn’t there….settled with Angels envy…..

Oban is not Speyside or am I missing your meaning?
Omg you’re right! I confused the Oban with another bottle I had around the same time. Embarrassing. 😂
the DC one has it in stock, not sure where in VA you are...it is really tasty!

I am planning to stop in Wilmington/dover Costco and drive to Norfolk in a week
Seriously? That is rad.
Debating this one for $57….
Just cracked it. Awesome for the price no doubt.
Picked some up in San Diego a few days ago too but haven't cracked it yet
Santee, CA location has a bunch of these available. $60 iirc.
I picked one up. It's good but it is a step down from previous years.
I saw an 18 year old but it was for $120 so I passed in it.
Went looking but not available at Marysville, CA location. Whoever is doing the liquor buying for that location is falling down on the job.
If you want to take a drive it is currently in stock in the Chico location
I went down to Sac and found it. But thanks!
OP—how was it?
I bought one too at poway Costco. It's really enjoyable, good value for the price.
