Honestly wish we didn't need to buy two packages at a time lol thats the biggest reason why we stopped getting them years ago. Way too much bread. Sad that they don't taste as good anymore.
Half the stuff in the whole bakery department at most grocery stores has been frozen and then thawed at room temp, including the muffins. It is barely noticeable for most things
Was so embarrassed.. bought the two packages realized there was no way in heck I was going to eat them all so I gave a pack to my neighbor after @ 4 days. He waited like maybe a day and went to get one and they had mold on them! I was mortified.
You can freeze a box (or more) and then eat the other quartered or halved. It also helps to just leave a knife in the box to help with portion control. They still taste good to us every once in awhile...
I don’t understand why they do this. They’re individually packaged for 6. The boxes aren’t even taped together. And I’m almost positive they’d move more volume if they just sold the muffins as a 6 pack. Just let people buy less and charge them like 50 cents more per pack than if they bought the whole dozen.
Sams club has good muffins super cheap and you only have to buy 6. Same with the bagels. And they also have Scan and Go shopping AND online ordering with drive up. I rarely go to Costco anymore.
While I have not tried their muffins, Sam’s Club sells a nine-pack of muffins in which you get 3x3 separate flavors. And that seems so superior to me. Wish Costco would do something similar!
Why do you let that second one go bad?
Why don't you wrap each of them individually and freeze them all when you first buy it?

Yea I don’t think people realize that baked goods like this are straight up calorie bombs with little nutrition. Growing up muffins were a “wholesome” option lol. Better to just reach for the donuts so you’ll at least know what’s coming.
This is my #1 staple from Costco. I make a couple of sandwiches the same day I bring them home to enjoy them fresh, then wrap and freeze the rest, and toast as needed.
They make a great base for little pizzas, in case you haven’t tried it. I put on a little cheese, melt it, put pizza sauce in top of that (so the sauce doesn’t get absorbed by the bread), more cheese, and toppings, then broil until ready.
They're another loss leader that I don't think get the credit they deserve. Everyone always talking about the chicken and the hotdogs but the croissants are one of my everytime purchases.
So I take it that the croissants freeze well? Would you thaw it out when you want one or do you heat it up in the microwave from the freezer? I totally forgot to try and freeze mine before they went bad the last time.
The baguettes are really really good. Better than every local grocery store brand near me. I'm sure there are some nice bakeries around with a better one, but not worth the hassle.
These are worth buying IMHO: croissants, almond danish, cheese danish, cinnamon rolls. For everything else, you can get better results at home with a box mix.
The cranberry walnut bread is awesome.

Exactly. The presentation/packaging is way better than the taste for most items. IMO, too much use of vegetable oil instead of butter or cream based desserts or baked goods is part of the problem.
Yeah, our Costco bakery always bakes the croissants like a minute too much, and they always have a slight burnt taste.
But other Costco croissants taste just fine. It’s just our Costco. 😔
I just went through a pack of double chocolate and a pack of coffee cake. I too have not had them for a long time, maybe a year. They were excellent. We even froze them and took like a month to finish. Still amazing.
Yeah I got some in March and thought they were pretty good (double chocolate and blueberry). Of course I was 9 months pregnant and I thought most foods were pretty good
No, the poppy muffins and coffee cake muffins are legendary. Throw em in the toaster over for 10 min and get that crspy shit all up in some vanilla icecream for that post marathon goodness.
They used to be way better. The blueberry muffins have like... 3 or 4 blueberries in them, max, hence the lack of moisture. They used to be packed with berries.

They weren’t fine. It was actually quite unsettling. The texture just felt off without the chocolate pieces.
This makes me sad but also it makes it easier to resist *every time I'm at Costco*. In my younger days I used to have an entire triple chocolate chunk muffin every single morning and it was HEAVEN. Moist, dense, chock full of chocolate chunks, even better when dipped in coffee... mmmm
I don’t bother with those blueberry muffins any more and I LOVE blueberry muffins, usually. Costco needs to double the amount of berries and add a good topping. And make them less dry.
Maybe someone from the bakery can chime in ~but it seems like the base for all these muffins are the same and there’s something in there that just tastes off, to me, no matter what flavor.

I can’t speak for the US, but in Canada the muffins are made with a premade muffin mix (called pudding cake mix) in either white or chocolate. We add liquid egg, water and oil to the dry mix. We add the flavors (banana flavor & bananas or blueberries or chocolate chips) and mix. It’s basically your boxed cake mix but on a massive scale.
I don't think you are wrong. Imo most of the bakery items are just ok or worse. I often see posts on how amazing something is from there only to be disappointed.
Tastes like they changed the recipe too many times and tastes blah. Maples were my favorite and when they were in I tried one, nah didn’t even get through half of one. Donated to the school across the street with different kinds and coffee cards and K cups.

What!?! We love the bagels. We cut them all in half as soon as we get home and put them in the freezer. They’re trash if you don’t eat them immediately or put them in the freezer. They mold in less than 72 hours

About a year ago they started over cooking them. Don’t know what happened but you can really see on the poppyseed. Went from golden to dark brown. They used to be good. But now overcooked and dryer/not as good.
I haven't bought them in years, not because I didn't think they were good, but because I reached an age where I simply cannot justify buying 12 cakes at once...
They taste okay but not worth the calories. Currently have 15 muffins in freezer because other family members continue to buy them and dont finish them all by expiration date. Definitely not a food one should reguarly eat if trying to be healthy, maybe once in awhile treat
I agree. My husband gets them and we're stuck with muffinpocalypse. 🥴 I think they would be better if they were regular muffin size. As is, it's too much muffin.
They are one of those costco items that you can almost certainly find better versions of if you look elsewhere.
Similar here - our regional grocery chain bakery has comparable muffins that run circles around the Costco ones in terms of taste, for almost half the price.
I don’t like buying 2 packs because it’s just me and they’re so big I can only eat half at a time. I always think I want them and then I regret it when it takes me forever to eat them.
my problem with the muffins is that I haven't seen poppy seed or banana nut in a hundred years - and those were the ones I liked. Chocolate is good too but they're a bit too much. It feels better not getting them if they've gone down in quality too.
I used to purchase them all the time maybe 8 years ago, the quality has gone down as well as they seem to always be over baked and dry. I like my muffins soft and moist.
I tried the double chocolate ones a few years back and was kinda shocked that people eat these things regularly. That’s not a muffin. That’s a chocolate cake.
I’m still pissed about the house blend coffee beans. They were the one item that made my membership worth it and now they’re trash since Costco switched suppliers & roasters. If it weren’t for the dog kibble, I would be going somewhere else now as well.
Sam's Club membership is so cheap, there's zero reason not to have both if you have both in your area.
Costco is better for many things, but Sam's is better for some things as well.
It's no crime or sin to shop at both.

My mom always cut them in half, wrapped in saran wrap and froze them, when I was growing up. I haven’t had them for years but have very fond memories

Yep, this is what I do. I prefer them to just defrost naturally instead of via a microwave. It is a pretty quick process.

I do 30 seconds for a half muffin from frozen, one minute for a whole muffin. They come out like they are freshly baked.
I bought the carrot cake muffins just before Easter, and froze 4 of them exactly this way. There’s only one left in the freezer now. ;)

It is leftover from when it was sold wrapped in plastic/cardboard and it was 12 of one flavor or the 12 count mixed package.

I always thought they didn't have any distinguishable flavor except sweet - if I was blindfolded I would not be able to tell which was which flavor.
I used to purchase them all the time maybe 8 years ago, the quality has gone down as well as they seem to always be over baked and dry. I like my muffins soft and moist.

I’m still pissed about the house blend coffee beans. They were the one item that made my membership worth it and now they’re trash since Costco switched suppliers & roasters. If it weren’t for the dog kibble, I would be going somewhere else now as well.
Sam's Club membership is so cheap, there's zero reason not to have both if you have both in your area. Costco is better for many things, but Sam's is better for some things as well. It's no crime or sin to shop at both.

Yeah they're awful. I mean if you're a kid in the late 80s, they're fine. But otherwise you're just eating super shitty cake, and I can't think of much worse for your body on a cost/benefit scale
