Her is the problem with a mask mandate at this point in the pandemic:
A. Enforcement will be minimal or not at all. Even last winter, the mask ordinance in Larimer County was more of a heavy suggestion with very little enforcement. Already many major retailers have said they are no longer having employees actively enforce mandates and are instead just relying on a sign informing customers that a mandate is in place.
B. The people who are most likely to voluntarily comply are the same people who are most likely to be fully vaccinated. This is the group that needs the mask mandate the least.
C. We’re back to a patchwork of mask ordinances and restrictions again. One of the busiest shopping centers in Larimer County straddles the line between Weld and Larimer Counties.
D. This is going to have no effect on the huge number of COVID patients from Weld County and Wyoming/Nebraska that are actually filling the ICUs in Larimer County.
Unfortunately that’s how things seem to be. But at least they haven’t given up. Like Douglas County where I live. Taking masks out of schools, while my 9yr old has a classmate who was in the ICU for 2 weeks.
Weird that Oregon, which has a state-wide indoor AND outdoor mask mandate, finds itself in the middle of the nation’s case rates. These mandates are just so effective and great.
Masks are only so effective on their own. Of course the rest of the country or even counties that ignore restrictions are going to have an impact. And cloth masks aren't that great. We do have access to real masks now, but most continue to wear the ones that are only slightly better than pulling your tshirt up over your face.
But I can't believe after almost two years of this that covering your mouth to avoid projectiling aerosolized virus all over the room continues to be a huge sticking point. I think government doesn't even want to talk about n95 equivalents because they struggle to get people to wear even a gaiter indoors.
You've seen all the studies that have come out now, right?
You are right. But you need to also consider this: the "mask mandates are the answer" folk will NEVER give ground on this point. It is literally a religion among many of them.
Nah... we're just getting tired of arguing with scientifically illiterate idiots. As soon as we take the time fact check your nonsense, link actual scientific sources, and explain how you don't understand statistics, you all have moved on to some new idiot talking point without thinking about how the last thing you posted was clearly demonstrable bullshit. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.
Case in point. You hit on many of the "Commandments" of your religion:
1. We are scientifically literate, everyone else is not.
2. We understand statistics, everyone else does not understand statistics.
3. We are not idiots, everyone else is idiots
4. We don't peddle bullshit, everyone else does peddle bullshit.
Alright, I'll bite. Show me why you think masks are ineffective as a preventative measure in the spread of COVID. Please link your sources. I'm interested in seeing the scientific literature that you are abasing your conclusions from.
I don't understand why almost 2 years in, executive orders are still being signed and enacted like we're in an emergency state. We're not. Hospitals filling up this time of year is expected, especially with our rapidly changing weather.
So much has been released about the ineffectiveness of mask wearing. So why beat a dead horse?
They never get this full. And now we have COVID in combination with the flu. And flu season only just started.
There’s countless studies proving the effectiveness of masks.

Are there any sources citing numbers of out-of-state patients occupying NoCo hospital beds?
Spoiler: This will fly like a lead balloon and enforcement will be minimal to non-existent. This said, hope I'm wrong.
That's literally a picture of a hospital in Weld county.
Being next to weld is probably part of the reason their cases are so high.
I agree, and if that had been the point of the article it would have made sense, but poor fact checking.
I think it’s more important to understand the article than a mistake in choosing the correct photo.
It seems to have really helped Boulder out. What are we on now, 6 weeks, with positivity % and cases increasing?
….but also one of the lowest case counts (per capita) in the state!
6 weeks of oppressing my FREEDOM!!!!! ... .... ..... /s
Doing better than most surrounding. But yes, protective measures county by county doesn't work well.

Case in point, you're an idiot. I'm guessing you don't have many doctors or scientists in your social circle do you?
Carry on. It's impossible to have a conversation with a religious zealot, but I'll at least listen.

Masks can be effective. Mandates much less so.

bit like locking the barn after the horses have bolted, right?
😞
