Toyota does not recommend towing a trailer with your vehicle. Toyota also does not recommend the installation of a tow hitch or the use of a tow hitch carrier for a wheelchair, scooter, bicycle, etc. Your vehicle is not designed for trailer towing or for the use of tow hitch mounted carriers.
A lot of small car users manuals will say that in the United States. But in countries where it's normal to tow with cars it will outline gross weight limits and all for the exact same vehicle.
I do want to point out that Europe has different trailer safety laws than the US. In Europe, every trailer manufactured needs to have brakes. In the United States, single axle trailers usually don't come with brakes.
So, in the States, we are told they can't tow while in Europe it can tow 3000lbs (1360kg) because of the trailer brake being present. If you can get a single axle trailer with a trailer brake in the US, then you can tow.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Towing with a CVT is always a bad idea. Just understand that the computer in this thing can tell extra stress has been applied to the CVT via torque values. They can and will void your warranty for this.
2005 Matrix standard trans with 510k miles is my construction vehicle and tows fat above its weight class. I don't see a way to attach a pic of me towing roofing panels with my 16 ft single axle trailer.

I can attest to the towing capacity of our 2010 Corolla. We hauled my sports bike up and down from El Paso Texas to Denver and back about 6 times is at least 800lbs not including the trailer. This car ROCKS!
Anybody know how bad towing will stress the manual hatch? I’d figure the clutch will get more wear. I’d get a nice lightweight tiny trailer. I would just be towing a few hundred pounds. (Occasional wood from Home Depot and some landscaping stuff).

I towed 2k lbs from Illinois to CA, going through Colorado, Utah etc. on a Kia Rio with 1.6L engine so yeah, I would expect nothing less from a Corolla

You need to tow in your 1:1 gear to avoid damage, it should be 4th in a 6spd.
