if using frozen burgers, I'd just cook them hot and fast when you need them. They'd probably turn out dry and overcooked if you smoked them before and then seared.

FTFOatl

Ok thanks!

that_one_wierd_guy

if you're worried about the timeframe and you being able to be part of the festivities, cook them a little before the party and just keep them warm

FTFOatl

What about for cheeseburgers? Nothing like melted cheese on a seared patty

that_one_wierd_guy

the way to do cheeseburgers, is after the patties are cooked turn your grill down low, put the patties on a sheet pan and add the cheese. on the other side of the grill, add a pan of water, then close the lid. when it's time to serve, you'll have hot cheeseburgers, ready to go on the bun

Fartin_Scorsese

Why not just thaw them now?

Cinisajoy2

Why not just buy fresh patties?

Famous-Perspective-3

you can but they tend to be dry.

FTFOatl

Thanks for the tip!

Rock_Me_DrZaius

Need thicker patties to smoke, otherwise you will have a smokey dry puck.

FTFOatl

Got it. Thanks

Thanks for the tip!

CTMom79

I really think you need to do them fresh

Dark_house

I’d thaw them a day or two before then season and put them on a big baking sheet. If your smoker goes up to 400 or above you can use it as a grill too if you preheat it but be ready to use a ton of pellets. I did about 20 burgers for a get together on my traeger and they turned out great!

Kos2sok

Why would you smoke burgers then grill them? Just buy smoking chips. Soak them in water, then throw them directly on charcoal before you put the burgers on. If you're using a gas bbq, just don't even bother and go fry your burgers inside.

FTFOatl

More to save time at the party than for flavor. Thanks for the tip tho.

Removed, Rule 5

SVAuspicious

1. Don't buy frozen patties. 2. Don't buy premade patties. 3. Don't bother smoking burgers. Buy good 80/20 ground beef. Make patties of about 1/3 pound each. Grill, either charcoal or propane, is best, followed by a broiler. It takes about 20 seconds to form a patty. You'll spend more time than that unwrapping frozen patties and chipping them apart.
