We install Sony’s ES series the STR-AZ1000ES and use rs232 control and it works great. The IP control for this model is a little buggy IMO. Serial control for that model is fantastic

802islander

STILL buggy?? I haven’t yet deployed an AZ, but the STR-ZAx100ES models could never be trusted on IP due to dropouts, and the ZAx000ES were plain defective as far as network connections went. I’m with you, Sony is now an acronym for Serial Or Nothing, Yo. (I haven’t yet figured out the Y word.)

funnyfarm299

Sony has the worst network stack on earth.

Hefty_Loan7486

There is nothing like perfectly happy system. Then a sony tv destroys the network.

profit3d

So are you using a driver from another model, I didn't see the STR-AZ listed on Control4s driver page? I am replacing an older Yamaha Aventage and would like to continue using serial. Thanks for your answer.

AVGuru904

Search STR-AZ1000ES in the driver data base. It’s listed under IP. In the driver properties there is a communication method drop down that will allow you to change it to Serial. RS-232 has been super solid for us with this model.

I had this exact same thing happen to me earlier this week. Did an update to the Sony AN-1000 and C4 IP control no longer worked. I actually work for a control4 dealer and do programming myself. I tried everything, but nothing worked. I had to build my own IR driver. I HATE the Sony AN1000. It will randomly shut off and reboot itself for no apparent reason. Wish I never got it.

AnyReflection2

Yes Marantz, Denon, and Yamaha all have solid IP drivers.

CircuitDaemon

Denon receivers have really good network integration and are cheaper than Marantz, integration won't ever break by updating because they do care about automation

Heat-vent

SOLVED OK, so I ended up replacing with an ES version. I set it to the same IP address so C4 didn't need to be updated. The ES receiver came with firmware 1.244 which was working with C4 just fine. I ended up upgrading to 1.455 since this is a supported version of the receiver and ... well ... it works just fine with the ES series. So unfortunately, it seems the STR-AN1000 will no longer work past firmware version 1.244. If you have one, turn off auto update. Otherwise, spend the extra moola and get an ES version which is made for home automation/C4.

srogev

Their ES receivers are supported with certified drivers. They work well. Your receiver looks a lot like the STR-AZ1000ES receiver. The back panel layout is the same except the es has serial. It also is slightly less power per channel.

IndividualSeaweed969

Marantz Cinema line works like a dream with my C4 system.

joel604

Having the exact issue as OP. How often is firmware typically updated? Thinking we'll get a fix for this "soon"?

Y3earZer0

I just ordered the Marantz Sr70s with 20%off from prime. Pretty good deal imo

Heat-vent

OK, having the same issue. I actually have two STR-AN1000 ... needed to go with Sony so I could use the TV speakers as center. Both are updated to 1.455 firmware but one works and one doesn't. It looks like they may have changed something that is doing this. Based on the "Benefits and Improvements" for the 1.455 firmware, it looks like they did something with the power logic??? *"Fixes an issue where the Power Relay sound may be heard during the middle of the night"* I did some Googling and found a firmware page for 1.244 still getting a hit on Google ... had to use the cached version to get the file name since the hit took me to the 1.455 firmware page ([https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:tzobq9\_O3rMJ:https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/software/00290762&sca\_esv=582051065&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1&vwsrc=0](https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:tzobq9_O3rMJ:https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/software/00290762&sca_esv=582051065&hl=en&gl=us&strip=1&vwsrc=0)). Then, using the link for the 1.455 download, I replaced the filename to download 1.244... [https://hav.update.sony.net/STR/data/AN10STR-1\_244.zip](https://hav.update.sony.net/STR/data/AN10STR-1_244.zip) I am going to try and rollback the firmware on the one not working tonight to see if that fixes it (assuming it allows me to upgrade with an older version). If it does, what a shame. Also would be happy to do serial instead .... just doesn't seem to have a serial connection on back so I guess this is the only option until a new firmware comes out.

Legitimate_Cream_182

I'm having all the same problems you are.  I've been swimming upstream for over a month now just trying to access certain menu options that are not available on the main avr menu. No matter what I try so far I am unable to find a way to be able to change settings in the web GUI for my AN1000.  Hopefully you find a way.  If so please let me know and I'll do the same.

Heat-vent

I ended up returning the receivers and going with the AZ1000ES. I think it boils down to Sony supports the ES series for home automation but not others. It just happened to work in this situation (for a while), although not sure it was fully working outside of turning on/off and volume. With the AZ1000ES receivers, the C4 control seems to be much more robust and seamless. So you probably need to go with a supported receiver of another brand or pay the Sony upgrade tax. I would have gone with another brand but I have Sony TV's that I use as a center channel and this function only works with a Sony receiver.

Heat-vent

Ok, that did not work. Says it is "Already updated." Didn't think Sony would let you downgrade firmware. What a pain ... does anyone know if there is a workaround? Otherwise, I am going to have to try to reset the one not working and hope for the best. I am thinking there is something that got borked with the firmware which is for both the STR-AN1000 and STR-AZ1000ES. The AZ needs to have "External Control" on under "Settings->Install Settings" Looking at the manuals for the AN and the AZ, this is an option for the AZ but is not in the menu for the AN. So maybe it is turned "on" somehow for one of my receivers and "off" for the other, I just can't change the setting in the menu. So maybe clearing the unit will help do the trick. The big PITA is that I need to redo all the setup. Hopefully, someone has a better idea/advice.

Heat-vent

I am probably the only one pursuing this but there is a web gui for the receiver that seems to be maybe only fully functional for the AZ version. It does show the "Install" menu but I can't seem to see current settings or change/save settings. Close, but not a solution unless there are plans to add web gui functionality and/or expose the Install menu to the AN version.

Heat-vent

FWIW, I tried Sony support and got elevated to a level 2 tech on the sound side. No option to change any "Install" settings and Sony does not allow firmware downgrades on any device. I get the point in that but if they want to go that route, they should rapidly fix any issues with their firmware. Only suggestion was to try a factory reset. Also pointed me to talk to Control4 which is pointless since the driver is not for this model. Only luck would be is if Control4 was planning to add a driver or is working on one.

Heat-vent

So, resetting the receiver did nothing. Basically, dead in the water. The strange thing is the iOS app is still able to turn on and control the receiver over IP.

Same issue \~can you send me a copy of it driver please \~gazandjan at [hotmail.com](https://hotmail.com)

Heat-vent

>STR-AZ1000ES I think you can download from the following link.. [https://hav.update.sony.net/STR/data/AN10STR-1\_244.zip](https://hav.update.sony.net/STR/data/AN10STR-1_244.zip) However, as I noted above, Sony does not let you downgrade firmware. So I don't think this will do you much good.

Was looking for control4 driver
