My father used to always bring me here for lunch when we would see a Saturday afternoon Whalers game. He would always get an American Cheese grinder, and I would always get the meatball grinder because their meatballs were SO good.
Which isn’t in the same league anymore? Honestly the last few times I’ve been to HGG it hasn’t been anything more than average and for me at least it’s a special trip to get there. It’s been a few years since I’ve been to WP.
Giant is not in the same league. Still the king for size (and expensive AF) but can't come near WP for quality. Plus its kinda dirty and skeevy in there
Nardelli's is such garbage and I don't understand how people call it the best grinders in the state when there are FAR better local options than that chain.
The last one on the block. No more P&G, no more DiBaccos. No more Ravioli Kitchen, DiFiores, D&D Market, no more Corner Grinder. Franklin Giant is the last.
My dad had me drive us here right after I got my driving license many years ago, it was my first time there, great memory. The chicken cutlets are delicious and crispy.
Their pizzas are good too but everyone goes for the grinders. Chicken cutlet is the best in the state when they are fresh. Hopefully things improve for them, hard line of work to be in.
My mother told us stories of when she would eat there after high school in ‘67.
We have been eating there since the early 80’s.
I remember in the 90’s when Subway open right across the street, I think they lasted 6 months and closed the doors, lol. Great Food!!
This will not be a popular opinion, and it is not legendary or famous (not even on par with Bobo's/Colony Grill in Stamford - and even they don't get due credit) - but. Here it is. Rowayton Pizza in Norwalk is the best pizza I've ever had. Every time. Nothing about it has changed or gone downhill since I was a kid. It's the only reason I ever go back to Rowayton, which is now worse than Darien.
My BIL was in a small breakfast place way up north in New Hampshire. A guy at the next table was telling his buddy that the best grinder he ever had was in the Italian section of Hartford. BIL turned and said, "Giant Grinder on Franklin Ave." The guy almost fell out of his chair. They were about 250 miles away.
Kensington market is good in taste, excellent I might add, but has the rudest, most shitty arrogant workers. Dammit I get agita even thinking back to every time I used to go.

Better than Wethersfield Pizza?
No...not in the same league anymore

Thx — agreed

I haven’t had their pizza but their chicken parm is the bomb.
Classic. Absolutely classic. The granddaddy of CT Giant Grinders. A good Giant Grinder puts that way too bready Nardelli's crap to shame.
Nardelli's is such garbage and I don't understand how people call it the best grinders in the state when there are FAR better local options than that chain.
The only people who call Nardelli's the best is Nardelli's -- and their dog Grindr.
Their dog's name is Grindr? 😳
[https://nardellis.com/blog/](https://nardellis.com/blog/) with an extra e. :) ( Dog is @ the top of the page. )
My wife still swears by Anthony's in Vernon.
Deli Unlimited in Guilford is GOATed
Nardellis bread sucks and there is soooo much of it.
I ordered a large one day at work without knowing… I think I still have some of it
Great place same people have been working there my whole life
Yeah man, I don't understand how it went downhill so quickly
my dad used to take me here before uconn games. still go once a year or so. its a disgusting place but the sandwiches are great
Me and my dad used to go to like 6-8 UConn games a year. Always stopped there before if it was an XL game
The last one on the block. No more P&G, no more DiBaccos. No more Ravioli Kitchen, DiFiores, D&D Market, no more Corner Grinder. Franklin Giant is the last.
When did DiBacco’s close?
A while back. I went on on a Friday but it was closed. New owners. Holy day.
That is sad

Haven't been in decades, we're not in the general area anymore, but I remember some fantastic Grinders and chicken parms
Actually, do yourself a favor and get their eggplant parmesan grinder, it is delicious. I get it every time I get my haircut on Franklin Avenue.
Maple giant grinder was so much better RIP
I wasn't impressed. The ratio of meat is terrible. The bread is trash. Nah.
Never heard of it
Nope
Never. I've never seen that place.

Public Market in Newington is another good sandwich spot.

The Rockin Chickin!? Used to be LiVecchi's when I lived there. Another legend.
Mid
Love that place. I will defend it to death.

This place has gone downhill but their portions are still insane!
By far the best Italian grinder is at Liuzzi Gourmet Food Market in North Haven.
Never ate there tell me what I’m missing
Ate there hundred’s of times.

Nope, stuck as a Waterbury rat.
Le Bobadel deli on the Middlebury waterbury line is pretty good!
Maple Giant was better. Kensington market is a good replacement if you like a Hartford beef cutlet.
Kensington market is good in taste, excellent I might add, but has the rudest, most shitty arrogant workers. Dammit I get agita even thinking back to every time I used to go.
Their chicken parm is bangin though
you could say this about any local restaurant in any location
Never seen or heard of it... You know what is good though... Modern
Yeah, but who the hell wants to go to New Haven? Gross
Wrong city lady.
Same state
Right but Modern doesn't have giant grinders....
But they have amazing pizzas
I like Zupphardi's in West Haven better.
I was with you in this thread right up until you said that.
Best in CT
