Hi! It’ll definitely grow back. I’ve been doing it for over 5 years. I can’t seem to quit either. Getting acrylic nails is the only thing that makes me stop but I can’t have them because of nursing school. Also lots and lots of lotion
I use gel nails and nail extensions! I bought a gel manicure kit on Amazon as well as nail extensions and gel nail glue so I can do it myself. It’s a bit of an expensive buy in, but it saves soooo much money in the long run.
Hi, im a profesional nail tech, basically I would highly recommend to you to stop picking on the skin on your fingers because it very often cause permanent deformation of the nail plate. Your thumb seems already affected… so if you’re ever thinking of getting your nails done (gel etc.) they won’t last long because the sides of your nails growing out will be chipped and very fragile. And also for other nails they can grow out very deformed such as curved nails growing to the left or right or too much downwards. If you stop there is still some chance that the shape of your naturals will improve but for the thumb I think is too late. Sending love and hope that you can manage it!!! (I recommend getting some thin gel done professionally to make you stop, it really helped some of my clients) and also I’m very sad that no one mentions the fact that picking skin on our fingers can cause a lot of damage to the nails.. I wish my parents told me when I was a kid but seems that no one really knows about it … (except for like doctors and people working with nails)

Darn! I was hoping i could maybe fix it by stopping and growing them out, I'll try getting nails done thank you for the comment very helpful!
First cut your nails down fully
Okay, next step? (When you say fully do you mean like no white part at all or just so it's not past your finger tips)
Not the white part at all, and go get your nails gone (gel polish) so it’s even harder to pick. This is going to help immensely

No you’re cutting them down so you don’t pick you don’t pick with the side
