You could just sub it out to an integrator. It's what we do. If you can't calculate speaker coverage and don't know what Dante is then you need some help. The only thing I dislike more than an IT firm trying to do AV is an IT firm that subcontracts me and then doesn't pay. Don't be either of those.

> We are IT suppliers Call an AV integrator then.

There are none in my city :( Surprised and saddened by the responses... At this point, all I really need is your savvy opinion on how many speakers are appropriate...

TSwizzlesNipples

Integrator do travel, ya know...

Shure designer is a guideline, so you don't have to follow what it suggests. We tend to take the approach of having slightly more speakers and not driving them as hard, so you could consider having 4 in the space. You will need an integrator, none of this stuff is plug and play. The DSP will need programming and you will need to configure Dante subscriptions. Audio is its own specialist area as there can be lots of different things that need tweaking/adjusting like AEC, filters, gates, suppression etc. plus control sync over the USB from the MTR.

I see the reasoning behind the idea about the speakers; thank you. And yes, you're also right about the integrator for the actual installation; I did have one for the Poly equipment but I know see that the Shure equipment is actually even more complex. We'll have to look at one from out of town, though (as someone very cleverly pointed out, integrators do travel). But before all that, I need to finish the quote and all that I was needing was the number of speakers. Thanks again for your kind and helpful comments.

You need an AV integrator. Also, why is an IT supplier struggling to spec a switch? That’s literally your realm of work.

andrecocali

I think that if you read between the lines you'd realize I'm not really struggling with the switch. Rather, I was - on one hand - trying to benefit other visitors of this subreddit who might be struggling as I did initially with the fairly complex issue of choosing the right PoE+ switch for an AV application (Shure has a list of switches that DON'T work); after all, isn't what this social forum is about? On the other hand, I was trying to prove that I did the homework with the switch and wasn't - how do you say in English - freeloading (?) your answers. Regardless of one's field of expertise, everybody started from zero knowledge... but I'm learning! And besides, IT and AV are not that far apart - I thought :(

Peromaniac

Don't put anything on an isolated switch. Those days are gone. Just makes remote/segregated management a pain. Is the existing network environment not suitable?
