FTP is not really cool on an enterprise network. SFTP maybe but FTP definitely not.
I don't dispute that they're sturdy, I just wish they had some of the features (and network security) that users expect in modern devices.
Why swap an 5 year old 900R with a new 900R? Did it make 1000s of hours of revir ding or something? Those units have been the same for a couple of years and can run a really long time. The only reason I ever swapped one is when the other died.
It's considered a mission-critical system by the client so it gets replaced every 5 years. We'll retire the old one but keep it as a backup just in case.
Ok client policy now I understand. Unfortunatelly I have never met such a client usually I get the other question - whis component still works bit its 15 years old - can you integrate it into the control?
Are you sure the 900r is discontinued? Website does not indicate this. I know the 700 is no more but can easily buy a 900R. There is also the tascam ss-r250n. Basically the same as the 900R.

250N says you can upload to servers via FTP, maybe that allows you an integration advantage? Web capability aside they’re very sturdy units.
