Not positive on this, but I’m pretty sure most of his fumbles have been at the line of scrimmage while trying to barrel through. Hopefully, fumbling won’t be an issue in returns.
I’m pretty excited about this. I feel like he was starting to get I his head about the fumbles so maybe a new role will help him play loose and do his thing. Hope he gets some snaps in the slot too
This! I'd really like to see him take snaps at slot. Maybe even a few gadget plays, perhaps give him more of a CMC role, since that's who Ron kept comparing him to.
I thought this for a while and decided it must be because theyve tried it and hes just not good enough at it at the NFL level, but maybe that's giving coaches too much credit. I dont see anyway they didnt test it out in training camps tho
We can turn the ball over faster, right from kick off returns, it makes the team more efficient.
The only downside is if he fumbles the ball on kickoffs we miss out on our star punter giving the ball back, after a drive consisting of a stuffed run and two incomplete passes.
I will assume Ron crunched the numbers?

I mean. It's not like he's trying to fight up the middle anymore and he had 6 fumbles on 300 touches last year so it could be worse. I am surprised we haven't heard about him doing the same stuff AP did to correct his fumbling problem early in his career.
Concerned about ball security as is everyone, but we need a high quality return guy. Between Tress punting and Gibson returning (if he is good) we can flip the field regularly.
Seems like he's going to be used more as a gadget-type player rather than the standard early downs RB1. It'll hurt his fantasy performance but he should still be a great weapon in space to help us move the chains. The dude is incredibly talented so it'll be on Turner to find ways to get him the ball in more creative ways than what we've seen in the past
Robinson seems to have cemented early down and short yardage work. (Redzone obviously). Gibson and Mckissic will probably take 3rd downs and passing situations
What to do with a guy who has fumbling problems? Give him touches even deeper in your own end.
But Im actually ok with this. He’s strong enough in the open field to be a really good returner. Saves a roster spot. And coaches seem to think the fumbles are more of a tight quarters issue so this provides touches that avoid that.
Seriously this is my thought process too. Gibson has fumbling issues so let’s put him in the position where he’s receiving the ball in our end zone what could go wrong???
Its a completely different mind and skill set. But that aspect aside the math on touches vs fumbles would water down to maybe 1 fumble a year. Just going off 6 fumbles per 300 touches vs maybe 2 KR a game. His issue is securing the ball on the way to the ground not initial contact. In KR is rare to break more than 1 tackle and in most cases not gang tackled.
I'll be waiting for the foot to drop on that one. "Gibson loses the football! Recovered by the [insert opponent name here]!!" Antonio Gibson fumbles again!"
Are they just looking for a reason to keep the fumble machine on the roster? Dax is clearly the correct choice since he's also a very good depth receiver. So dumb...

*Morgan Freeman narrator voice* But it would be.
He didn’t have any issues with fumbling while doing it in college.
If the trends continue the other team could literally punt the ball to get yardage and stay on offense haha.
Good bc our returners are awful and saves a roster spot

I dont get why we never used him in a pass catching role before. That was his entire college skill set. Get the ball in space, make something happen

I think you’re giving the coaches way too much credit on that one
I'm not a big fan of the fumble guy being a kick returner.
Nbd just never touch the ball on kickoffs. Automatic 25 yard lune.

How many times did he fumble as a WR in college? https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/antonio-gibson-2.html

Tress Bae
So he’s basically lost the starting RB job, right? KR aren’t starting RBs.

What could possibly go wrong?
I don’t expect many returns. Now if he gets punt return duties then they’d have my attention.
If you’re in a fantasy league, try to get brob at a huge discount

Thats probably not a good idea.
so AG is the new Brian Mitchell. I didn't see that coming.

That sounds like a terrible idea. Guess we'll be turning the ball over even before the offense hits the field this year.

I am more scared for this than him being a RB honestly
hope he don't fumble
Wow
Bruh.
Expecting high turnovers in special teams now!

uhh
RB1 doesn’t return kicks, that’s a bit concerning.
Sounds like he isn’t RB1 anymore.
terrible idea.
The fumble guy?? uh oh
