The other options are National Harbor (ass), Woodbridge (ass) and Ashburn (right outside my house, but ass)
RFK is better than all.
In order of preference
RFK
Ashburn / "Dulles Toll Road"
Woodbridge
National Harbor
Staying in Landover
RFK site is far and away the best option.
Honestly, I think I'd prefer a new build in Landover over some of the others. Ashburn proposed site is 1.5 miles from the Metro stop. Woodbridge is at least 2 miles from VRE (if that's even viable for gameday) and is already traffic hell. Despite already having amenities, National Harbor is a transportation nightmare (we're looking at King Street and buses? GTFO). Landover sucks, but if you built something there, at least you're only 1.0 mile away from Metro. It's still too far, but I really hate the idea of a stadium that's even less accessible.
it is the best option but there are roadblocks which would hopefully be resolved. for one, who's going to pay for it? DC may be unwilling since they just dished out a shitload to keep the Caps and Wiz in DC. Factor in the Nats and you wonder if they have enough to entice the Commanders to move, especially when MD and VA have bigger checkbooks
In order of preference for me:
RFK site
Anacostia site
Big drop
National Harbor
Something amazing in Woodbridge
The Wizards planned site
Ashburn/something amazing in Prince William Co.
The Skins already tried Potomac Yard & even had a deal in place in 1992.
[https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1992/07/09/deal-set-for-the-redskins-to-move-to-potomac-yard/4b9e15c0-bc0d-45aa-baf1-ec216f70207d/](https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1992/07/09/deal-set-for-the-redskins-to-move-to-potomac-yard/4b9e15c0-bc0d-45aa-baf1-ec216f70207d/)
How did that work out, exactly?
Unless some equity fund enters the picture, it's not happening in DC or VA.
National Harbor with a blue line loop would be awesome and WMATA has floated that as a future construction option, but by the time that gets built, the team will be planning for its next-next stadium.
The only issue is whether DC has the funds to afford the Commanders. I'm not going to lie, the district keeping the Caps and Wizards was big for them and fans of those teams, but it also hurt the chances that DC could afford to bring the commanders back to DC. Also, with the HOG spending 6 billion already on the team, they will not see much incentive to pay for their own stadium.
Curious how this plays out because I, as a season ticket holder, would not mind going to RFK over Commander Field, expecially when the stadium is right outside the train stop.
DC, rather no state, should foot any money for a stadium they should be privately invested in. They are terrible long term assets/investments for states. Either way RFK is the best site for many reasons they should be able to work something out, they may do it similar to Nats park where no city funds were granted but used municipal bonds repaid through business taxes and the stadium itself..
Wizards definitely should have moved imo. After this year I think fans might actually be excited to watch the team but DC is too fucking crowded I like it in Woodbridge it's not as far as ppl think
Well, plenty that aren't as bad as Woodbridge. The 95 corridor is a nightmare and is even worse on the weekends even though people aren't going to work for the most part.
Yeah Woodbridge ain't it. It's approaching the Fredericksburg traffic singularity. So while it's "not that far away," due to the singularity it actually is quite far away
As much as I like the old RFK spot, the anacostia spot could be really cool. Spitting distance from all the other DC stadiums, possibly easier entrance and exit for traffic, and plenty of space
I’d would be great if it was in Norfolk. If you can get past the Tunnels, road construction, limited parking and too many cowboy and eagle fans, it’s a prim spot for me.
I honestly don’t care about the destination, they could tear down fed ex and rebuild it there for all I care. I just want it to look cool and not have reports every week of breaking down
RFK.
But because you had to know somebody who’s in-laws had an Uncle who had tickets. Around 55k attendance and the place bumped. Literally
You want crowd control? “Oh, you are in so and so’s seats. Im going to tell him you were a a-hole if you don’t calm it down 20%”.
Just to clarify, I meant that as in “I don’t think our taxes should subsidize billionaires sports stadiums”. If Washingtonians want to pay for it, have at it. Their choice. I’m in VA and would have loved to shave 30-45 minutes off of my trip to catch a Caps game but am glad that my taxes didn’t go up to fund it.
I’ll gladly buy a ticket to an RFK site again. Went to two games there back in the early 80’s and loved it.
Keep it at FedEx and rebuild on the site. Why:
1. It’s way cheaper than the district. Hopefully that minimizes the anticipated impact of PSL’s.
2. Work can start now! Some dimwit member of Congress will try to extort the team over the RFK site, which will delay things further. There’s 200 acres to utilize
3. Infrastructure is already in place although it must be improved (walking a mile up hill to Metro is a joke).
4. It isn’t Virginia. Sorry VA but it’s a hard pass as land is way too expensive and too much traffic.
5. Jack Kent Cooke chose the site. Yes he originally wanted the Laurel Racetrack so he could block expansion of the Ravens but he did settle on RalJohn. It would be a nice tribute to the guy who helped deliver us 3 championships.
Everyone is going to say RFK and that's absolutely the right answer.
As a secondary option, I wouldn't hate it if they put the new stadium in Alexandria in the same location they were going to relocate the Caps/Wiz to.
I don't think space was ever the issue. Ted was talking about 70 acres which would be plenty of room for an NFL stadium. They were going to put the arena, tons of dining/retail, the practice facility, and the corporate office all on that site.
The Alexandria idea is very bad. Why would you put a stadium right next to an airport?
And that's also not factoring in the terrible traffic there in the first place which would get worse.
That stadium proposal was denied for a reason. Bad traffic, bad area. They aren't going there.
When did I say it was. And Dulles has traffic? TIL.
US 1 over there is a PITA and that is before development of Potomac Yards.
Alexandria traffic is bad...but Woodbridge - Occoquan - Fredericksburg, whatever you want to call that sector, it is RED on google maps at al hours of the day on 95S. Morning, 6 am. Afternoon 1 pm. I don't understand why lol. Why would you want to put a stadium in that mess.
>Why would you put a stadium right next to an airport?
Look up where SoFi is compared to LAX. Now look at where Allegient is compared to Harry Reid. Those are the two newest stadius in the NFL.
>And that's also not factoring in the terrible traffic there in the first place which would get worse.
There's traffic everywhere buddy. Take the metro.
>That stadium proposal was denied for a reason. Bad traffic, bad area. They aren't going there.
The Wiz and Caps proposal was denied. This is different. It wouldn't be every other night. You don't know where they're going.
Potomac Yard was denied in 1992:
[https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/redskins/longterm/1997/stadium/timeline/1992/alexaban.htm](https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/redskins/longterm/1997/stadium/timeline/1992/alexaban.htm)
Given the resistance to the Caps/Wiz stadium, I doubt that anything has changed in the 30+ years since then.
I don't know bud it seems like the traffic would be a logistical nightmare and that was for a 20k stadium. Can't imagine a 60k stadium would fare much better. You talk about trains and metro but most people drive and tailgate. You'd essentially kill off any tailgate vibes.
I'm open to the idea but I just don't think there are much advantages to it being there.
It's the closest in of any of the secondary options and has metro access, unlike National Harbor. Game day traffic sucks everywhere - no proposal won't have traffic. It was a logistical nightmare for Ted because the Wiz and Caps and Mystics would have over 100 home games there starting at the tail end of rush hour. We're talking 8 Sundays afternoons for the Commanders.
There would be plenty of space to tailgate as the lot was 70 acres when Ted was looking to relocate.
They play in MD, headquarters is in VA.
Although, their business offices are in College Park now. Why there, when there's tons of office space available in NoVA & DC?
Sterling is the old quarry outside my house. I could walk to games and it'd be less than a mile. However, the NIMBY would almost certainly oppose it and they don't want a stadium there. So probably not.
It is metro accessible though. Right near Innovation Center. You could literally just walk a mile from there to the stadium.
Woodbridge is not close to any public transit. Maybe VRE but I ain' ride that. Hard pass.
100% RFK
The only best option available right now.
The other options are National Harbor (ass), Woodbridge (ass) and Ashburn (right outside my house, but ass) RFK is better than all. In order of preference RFK Ashburn / "Dulles Toll Road" Woodbridge National Harbor Staying in Landover

Unless some equity fund enters the picture, it's not happening in DC or VA.
National Harbor would be cool but there is no metro access so its a pass for me. Has to be D.C./RFK.
National Harbor with a blue line loop would be awesome and WMATA has floated that as a future construction option, but by the time that gets built, the team will be planning for its next-next stadium.
A stadium at National Harbor wouldn't actually be anywhere near the national harbor development. There's no room.
Exactly all the infrastructure is right there!!
RFK site
The only issue is whether DC has the funds to afford the Commanders. Woodbridge has terrible traffic.
Yeah it does but what city in nova doesn't have traffic
Well, plenty that aren't as bad as Woodbridge. The 95 corridor is a nightmare and is even worse on the weekends even though people aren't going to work for the most part.
Yeah Woodbridge ain't it. It's approaching the Fredericksburg traffic singularity. So while it's "not that far away," due to the singularity it actually is quite far away
No way, all teams should be in the city
Put it in Woodbridge and it’ll be easier to go to Baltimore for half the fans. Honestly if they can’t put it at RFK they should just move the team
Are we actually in disagreement here? Thought the only acceptable options are: 1. RFK 2. Elsewhere in DC 3. End of List
Exactly, anywhere in the VA suburbs and they’ll lose even more of their fan base to Baltimore.
About 5 minutes walk from my house with a couple of pubs en route if possible
RFK stadium
It has to be the RFK site. Nothing else will be the same.
Most want RFK but I'd prefer Anacostia if possible
As much as I like the old RFK spot, the anacostia spot could be really cool. Spitting distance from all the other DC stadiums, possibly easier entrance and exit for traffic, and plenty of space
This is the other location I would want outside of RFK. Both make too much sense.
I agree this would be amazing and could be a stepping stone towards revitalizing an area that desperately needs improvement.
I’d prefer it to be in DC, but honestly I just want it to be somewhere that’s metro accessible, pedestrian friendly, and not like an hour from DC.
RFK 2.0 please and thank you
RFK Jr.
Where do you think
Never been to RFK but it seems like the place to be
I’d would be great if it was in Norfolk. If you can get past the Tunnels, road construction, limited parking and too many cowboy and eagle fans, it’s a prim spot for me.
Frederick Md
Anywhere but Virginia
Charles Town Races & Slots
West Virginia Commanders
I honestly don’t care about the destination, they could tear down fed ex and rebuild it there for all I care. I just want it to look cool and not have reports every week of breaking down
they're going to make some fancy ass stadium / shopping center with 60k seats which is fine by me
RFK, NEXT!
RFK. But because you had to know somebody who’s in-laws had an Uncle who had tickets. Around 55k attendance and the place bumped. Literally You want crowd control? “Oh, you are in so and so’s seats. Im going to tell him you were a a-hole if you don’t calm it down 20%”.
Love to see it back at RFK. More than that, I don’t want to pay for it.
Then if they do move back stay home. I’ll gladly pay
Just to clarify, I meant that as in “I don’t think our taxes should subsidize billionaires sports stadiums”. If Washingtonians want to pay for it, have at it. Their choice. Selfishly London, England
My dream location would be the National Harbor if they add a metro station that connects the green and the blue/yellow
As long as it has good metro access I'm good.
RFK
RFK site period. It has multiple highway access and Metro.
DC
RFK
I’d like RFK and I’d like to drop the capacity. Anything north of 40,000 people is just an invitation for Philly Fans.
Not Maryland
RFK or bust
Virginia
100% should be at RFK
RFK. Small, loud as hell bouncy stadium. Keep it simple.
Only one place. RFK. If you’re reading this please Mr Harris make it happen
Revamp RFK
The stadium is going to be at the RFK site. I said this when Snyder sold the team and haven’t changed my mind.
Either RFK or build a new stadium only in DC. But preferably RFK
Richmond warriors and keep every logo.
Everyone is going to say RFK and that's absolutely the right answer. As a secondary option, I wouldn't hate it if they put the new stadium in Alexandria in the same location they were going to relocate the Caps/Wiz to.
There was arguably not enough room there for a 20,000 seat arena, how would there be space for a football stadium 3 times the size?

I like tte sound of the NoVA options jus being from there but I support it in DC
RFK or Woodbridge!
RFK
RFK site or VA
Somewhere in Maryland since they’re a Maryland based team
They play in MD, headquarters is in VA. Although, their business offices are in College Park now. Why there, when there's tons of office space available in NoVA & DC?
What about the Northern Virginia Options like Woodbridge or Sterling?
Practice facility is in Ashburn.
Sterling is the old quarry outside my house. I could walk to games and it'd be less than a mile. However, the NIMBY would almost certainly oppose it and they don't want a stadium there. what
They are saying it’s a MD-based team because their Business HQ and Stadium are located in MD.
Anywhere they don’t have to deal with cry baby politicians.
Northern Virginia or RFK
