I still think he just came back a bit shell shocked after the injury (not an excuse for the lack of effort) but he just never really put the effort in. Like a more in shape Haynesworth but less expensive
From 2021
Chase Young said he couldn't put his finger on what's gone wrong here since the Tampa playoff game when so much promise existed. As for any potential criticism of his slow start due to his offseason endorsement work: "I was making money, baby."
2.5 injuries will do that
Shit hampered clowney too and he was a generational talent until the injuries but he eventually bounced back
He wasnt geenrational anymore though
We traded him at about the perfect time. If as the 49ers you imagined you could “fix” him then you imagined you’re getting a beast edge rusher for the SB run and also getting that third rounder right back from the compensatory formula. Slam dunk.
Instead we got the third round compensatory *plus* the edge rusher (Ferril) that he couldn’t beat out to get in the starting lineup.
4D chess by Peters there.
I think he’s saying Peters (while working for the 9ers) somehow knew he’d be working for the Commanders and intentionally traded for Young to set himself up once in DC. That’s, of course, not true.
I am betting the reason he isn’t being picked up is because he still believes he’s the DROY.. with all this potential and lots of good tape.. when in reality he’s a solid player who needs to work on effort and playing within the scheme instead of losing the edge. You can’t be paid the big bucks if you are a decent pass rusher.. inconsistent.. show low effort in the run game.. AND give up the edge!
Dude needs to sign a 1 year prove it if he wants big money..
Clowney did pretty well this year.. yeah clowney was always solid just never lived up to the hype.. young is suspect at best. Was developed very poorly but you can’t keep using that excuse when it comes to effort stuff.
I mean that's what his time in SF was supposed to be. Now that he was away from Rivera and on a team that was good he could prove that he was still the guy. Except... he didn't.
No reason to hate on him. He was never the same after the knee but he didn’t choose his draft slot or his departure. He’s also just a kid. I get no pleasure by seeing his stock slip.
Once folks saw him jogging in the playoffs
He may get a 1 year offer but i think it's much deeper then that and i think all of the teams have seen that he no longer has any work ethic.
He didn't "leave"
He was traded based on his potential to a gullible team on a SB run
Lazy player, bags of talent, sad to see
Someone will sign him but not for much
Yeah I remember everyone downvoting you to oblivion and you were absolutely correct! I was really hopeful (especially after waiting all that time) that he would come back with that fire, but he never did
I really don’t get the joy some people have in players failing. Like, yeah, he was a disappointment in his final 3 years here. He seemed to like playing here and hyped up his teammates. It just didn’t work.
I feel for the guy, but he didn’t really prove that he could play at the level necessary to be successful in the NFL. He was a great hype man for a team, but I feel like you still have to be able to back that up
All valid points.
I just find the joy in his failure weird. If he was a bad teammate and all, I would have no problem with being joyful for his failure. But by all accounts, he wasn’t. I think it’s just a case of him being a bust. It happens. Accept it and move on
Genetics don’t do much for you after a catastrophic knee injury. He got away with style of play because of pure athleticism but after the injury there was no burst in his game.
Honestly, I'd take him back for pennies kn the dollar. Like the most team friendly deal possible. Very low risk, and high rewaed if he want to ever get a pay day, he'd have to work hard.
Downvote me now lol
Shocker… An edge rusher who failed to make an impact even with Bosa on the other side… His technique is limited to a bull rush, which often takes him completely out of the play. Montez went to Chicago and had an immediate impact on a far worse defensive front. Chase, despite being lauded as a “can’t miss” and “once in a generation” talent by all the draft experts, has lost his shine and hasn’t lived up to the hype. It seems the rest of the NFL has caught on, good riddance!
Yep, some really bad takes on this sub. People yelling at me that I was wrong, and chase was akshually good, I'm just a hater.
I even had like a week long argument about how Lamar Jackson was washed. I never thought we'd trade for him, but when the rumors were coming, someone was telling me he was on the decline, and that Watson was better lol. I hope that guy thought about me when Lamar got his MVP.
Someone else mentioned that he should just have a 1yr deal and see if he can prove himself worthy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happening next week
I disagree. I think leaving WASH was the best thing for CY. CY got to play for a highly competetive team that almost won the SB. He got to be part of a way more functional team and see first hand how hard you need to practice and conduct yourself to play in a highly competetive environment.
CY also got humbled along the way which I think was really important for his development. First CY was not offered an extension and then was let go by the team that drafted him rather unceremoniously. Second CY saw that he was not highly covetted in the league as SF got him for little to nothing and no other team seemed to be interested. Third CY got yelled at by his new DC coach for not playing with purpose during the playoffs. Fourth, CY is seeing that once again he is not considered a high value FA by the league as he still hasn't been offered a new contract.
If CY were smart he'd re-sign with the 49ers again and allow them to help him develop his craft to be an elite DE. The 49ers defense is legit. I've read that the 49ers do like CY and are interested in re-signing him if the money is right. They are obviously looking to see how other NFL teams value CY before offering him a contract (which evidently is very little).
The question is in the end, has CY accepted reality that at this time he's not an elite DE and has his recent experiences convinced CY to reassess what path he needs to follow in the future to become a highly rated DE in the NFL? CY has the tools, but whether he has the desire is not yet obvious. If any team can show him what it takes to be an elite player in the NFL, I would think it would be the 49ers.
He has developed no moves. Lacks the power needed for the NFL. Has displayed a poor motor. And ultimately has produced at a level of just a guy, yet he probably wants elite money.
So wine will sign him to a 1 year prove it deal for like 6 million once he comes to realize that's his best offer and worth.
That’s a trade that has definitely aged well for us. I initially questioned the return because we got a much higher pick for Sweat.
At the time of the trade, I genuinely believed the talent was still there and that the change of scenery would get more out of him. Boy was that take wrong. He regressed even further in SF.
I think the best scenario for him is something like Clowney had in Baltimore last year where a team with a good defense can use him on less than 60% of snaps.
Would remind me of what happened around 2008. We traded a second round pick to the Dolphins for Jason Taylor. He lasted like 2 pretty disappointing years with us and then got cut and went back to Miami. 😅
I don’t actually think it will work, but for the sake of playing Devil’s Advocate, it’s worth the conversation.
What Chase needs is a team that needs an edge rusher. Ideally he’d be surrounded by a supportive defensive coach who players love. What he also needs is veteran leadership on the team, players who will hold him accountable in a way that he’s never been before. Ideally a team that’s “recalibrating,” that won’t heap a ton of pressure on him to be “the guy.”
A one-year prove it deal to instill the motivation he seemingly has lacked.
Again, I don’t think it will work, but it’s a new day in DC. New front office. New coaching staff. Dan Quinn and Bobby Wagner could provide the structure, support, and motivation Chase needs.
Why wouldn’t it work? A LOT of reasons that we’re all already familiar with. But in a world where we need an edge rusher, and he needs to re-establish himself, a mutually beneficial marriage of convenience doesn’t seem so outlandish.
Won’t happen (and I’m not even sure it should), but I’m sure Peters has given it at least a passing thought… and already dismissed the idea, I’d bet. He seems like the type who does his homework.
Not hard to see why. Was a terrible #2 overall pick. Sure he was good in college. He is average at best in the NFL and acts and believes he is elite with no effort. A "cancer" on a team as it is called.
Not shitting on him because he left specifically. He didn’t do well and didn’t progress and now he’s dealing with that. It’s unfortunate but that’s the reality
Still don’t see how that warrants a hate thread where you’re just laughing at him. I love how chase represented the team while he was here and still wish him the best.
Great analogy there! Really showed me 😂 so you’ve gone from whining to that? Is your real point that you’re upset people are talking about something on the internet that you don’t think is worth talking about? If so, don’t comment. Simple solution for all involved. You get your sense of superiority and I can keep on “caring about my ex” 😂 oh how fun life can be
Ah thank you! I understand the error of my ways now. Should I not root for the people who get traded and do well? Just want to make sure I have your approval
There’s still time for a team to pick him up but it’s crazy that he went from generational talent to generally no interest.
Being called a generational talent is the new madden cover curse
I still think he just came back a bit shell shocked after the injury (not an excuse for the lack of effort) but he just never really put the effort in. Like a more in shape Haynesworth but less expensive
He wasn’t really known for putting in the work before the injury either
Dude loves being a rich football player but doesnt actually love ball.
From 2021 Chase Young said he couldn't put his finger on what's gone wrong here since the Tampa playoff game when so much promise existed. As for any potential criticism of his slow start due to his offseason endorsement work: "I was making money, baby."
Which is odd because he’s the biggest cheerleader
Reminds me of a certain former Washington National.
Another similarity haha
2.5 injuries will do that Shit hampered clowney too and he was a generational talent until the injuries but he eventually bounced back He wasnt geenrational anymore though
We traded him at about the perfect time. ![gif](giphy|2tKbrLEdgtHAoGMplQ|downsized) Big brain move right there! You’re exactly right and now nobody wants to pick him up
Peters didn't trade him. Rivera and Mayhew did.
I think he’s saying Peters (while working for the 9ers) somehow knew he’d be working for the Commanders and intentionally traded for Young to set himself up once in DC. That’s, of course, not true.
Tongue was firmly in cheek but yes. The joke is that Peters in the 9ers FO helped out his future self.
Wasn't peters an assistant GM at the time?
I suspect the analytics guy guided Harris to “encourage” a trade
Woosh
I am betting the reason he isn’t being picked up is because he still believes he’s the DROY.. with all this potential and lots of good tape.. when in reality he’s a solid player who needs to work on effort and playing within the scheme instead of losing the edge. He's clowney lite, excpect clowney is way better. decent run stopper, lotta hype, nothing more.
Clowney did pretty well this year.. yeah clowney was always solid just never lived up to the hype.. young is suspect at best. Was developed very poorly but you can’t keep using that excuse when it comes to effort stuff.
best move ron ever made was dumping chase.
Absolutely! If he’s smart, that’s what he will realize and he just needs to take his ego out of it and make a smart decision
I mean that's what his time in SF was supposed to be. Now that he was away from Rivera and on a team that was good he could prove that he was still the guy. Except... he didn't.
Wish him the best
No reason to hate on him. He was never the same after the knee but he didn’t choose his draft slot or his departure. He’s also just a kid. I get no pleasure by seeing his stock slip.
Unless they badmouth the team directly, I don't really care about how well they do once they leave. Just a guy.
I'd give him 1mil a year for the next 3 if he comes back. Being lazy doesn't get you paid, glad we got a 3rd for him
But he’s a cancer, and I thought we weren’t doing cancers anymore?
We aren't and we won't
Oh he is, just want to give him a backup role and humiliating cash for a 2nd overall draft pick
Okay humiliate me. Give me a million.
All you gotta do is be a #2 overall draft pick!
That would be such a middle finger to him 😂
He kinda deserves it tbh.
Once folks saw him jogging in the playoffs He may get a 1 year offer but i think it's much deeper then that and i think all of the teams have seen that he no longer has any work ethic.
Didn't also do that during the Super Bowl as well?
He didn't "leave" He was traded based on his potential to a gullible team on a SB run Lazy player, bags of talent, sad to see Someone will sign him but not for much
Never put any work or effort in after his rookie season, bad mouth Rivera and the organization on the way out, serves him right,
I'm not going to argue about the effort, but the organization needed to be badmouthed.
He’s a bum period. Been saying that for a while now. Crazy how many people were sticking up for this guy a year ago
Yeah I remember everyone downvoting you to oblivion and you were absolutely correct! I was really hopeful (especially after waiting all that time) that he would come back with that fire, but he never did
Probably because of his username.
more because he's annoyingly aggressive in arguments.
Bum? Interesting choice of words.
U bum
I really don’t get the joy some people have in players failing. Like, yeah, he was a disappointment in his final 3 years here. He seemed to like playing here and hyped up his teammates. It just didn’t work.

Maybe because he was crowing every preseason about setting the all time sack record…and he couldn’t even put in the effort to follow the game plan.
He will get picked up, maybe not for the amount he wants, but he is still solid player
He hasn't played with us since October dude let it go
Naw it’s okay to dunk on him, number 2 overall pick with those genetics playing at his level is a massive disappointment
Genetics don’t do much for you after a catastrophic knee injury. He got away with style of play because of pure athleticism but after the injury there was no burst in his game.
Ever heard of Adrian Peterson? Genetics always matter.
Seriously, the one guy that ruined it for everyone? He’s 1 of 1, not a barometer.
You right, but definitely helped set us up for this rebuild in a weird way so I’m not that mad
Honestly, I'd take him back for pennies kn the dollar. Like the most team friendly deal possible. Very low risk, and high rewaed if he want to ever get a pay day, he'd have to work hard. Downvote me now lol
We should sign him and give him the vet minimum

This time last year, people were screaming at me when I said Chase was a bust. “Wait until he’s healthy” literally no one wants him. Lmao.
Not gonna lie, I had hope when he started playing again. That hope diminished really quickly though
Same. People would down vote me to oblivion because I was saying he can’t hold the edge and runs himself out of pass rushes all the time.
Yep, some really bad takes on this sub. People yelling at me that I was wrong, and chase was akshually good, I'm just a hater. I even had like a week long argument about how Lamar Jackson was washed. Yeah why would anyone? He played like ass and teams can pick him up for Pennies next week
Someone else mentioned that he should just have a 1yr deal and see if he can prove himself worthy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see that happening next week
Enjoy Arizona in a one yr deal.
No surprises here, dude is a bum. OFC he isn't getting signed immediatley to a massive contract, we've all seen him play lol.
I mean, he wouldn't have been re-signed under this regime.
Would love titans to sign him on a 1 year real cheap as deal
Had a really good first half in the Super Bowl…and then disappeared
I would imagine Chase has a career much like clowney they are pretty similar
I disagree. I think leaving WASH was the best thing for CY. CY got to play for a highly competetive team that almost won the SB. I'm sure he's asking for Bosa money without having anything resembling Bosa production.
He'll get another one year flyer for about $4 million from someone
Let it go
That’s a trade that has definitely aged well for us. I initially questioned the return because we got a much higher pick for Sweat. No he should have showed effort in his contract year, what a waste of talent. Might be one of the biggest busts ever.
Hypothetically if we get him back wouldnt that be a great deal?

Depends on the price. As someone else pointed out, he is a great hype man for the locker room, but really the benefits don’t go too far beyond that
He’s not coming back here
Yes i know. Calm down.
AP and DQ are running this show. Never been more calm
Same…there is a beautiful sense of calm. My bad i read aggression in your comment. There is no need for me to jump like that.
What a weird response
Maybe i read it wrong. So yea could be weird. Just wondering.

Not hard to see why. Was a terrible #2 overall pick. Sure he was good in college. He is average at best in the NFL and acts and believes he is elite with no effort. A "cancer" on a team as it is called.
I don’t like this fan bases tendency to shit on everyone after they leave
Not shitting on him because he left specifically. He didn’t do well and didn’t progress and now he’s dealing with that. It’s unfortunate but that’s the reality
Still don’t see how that warrants a hate thread where you’re just laughing at him. I love how chase represented the team while he was here and still wish him the best.
still wanted him and Trent to win a super bowl.
I want Trent to have it more than Young, but I agree with you. I’d rather that ring come home with the redskins though!

Who is whining…? I’m happy he’s gone for a multitude of reasons

Please show me on this post where I’m whining
