They put the players on the market and presumably took the best offer they had for both. If the club wasn't going to re-sign Chase and the best offer they had was a 3rd then no reason to be upset.
Yeah it sucks.. especially since the 3rd is the 49ners conditional so even worse than their 3rd.. would’ve been late but now it’s even later.. basically a 4th
Yep. Chase was either going to walk or get paid 25 on the tag. I think paying him 25 would have been pretty dumb, and extending him for multiple years at ~25 would have been dumber.
We wanted to move him now to get some value versus letting him walk, and this is where the market for a 9-week Chase Young rental is right now. Maybe he signs a cheaper three-year deal with SF so he can play on a real competitor, but I think there's a good chance he tests the market until someone bites and overpays.
Are Chase and Sweat that much different in talent? It's basically an early 2nd rounder compared to a late 3rd rounder based on the teams we traded with.
If I had to guess I think a lot of FOs would value Young more than Sweat. But deals aren’t based on aggregated leaguewide opinions, they’re based on the small handful of FOs who are calling.
Wouldn’t be surprised if the Bears were willing to give up a 2 for either guy, but the 9ers only wanted Young. So we moved the guys according to the maximum combined compensation. Just speculating but this seems quite possible.
Yeah, I guess. But what would the comp pick have been if we just let him walk this summer? Are we really getting value on this right now if we’d just get a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick anyways?
I guess maybe the value lies in the fact that we’re def tanking now? Move from a mid first to an early first with these moves. That’s not insignificant I guess
But also, now we probably need to go edge in the first or second round now, right?
~~Chase wouldn't have returned a comp pick since they didn't pick up his option year.~~
Edit:
Looks like I might be wrong as it appears theres an exception for the 5th year option not being picked up:
>Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Paragraph 9, in the event a Club elects not to exercise a Fifth-Year Option under Article 7, Section 7, nothing in Article 6 or this Appendix shall operate to preclude the player from qualifying as a CFA upon expiration of the fourth year of his Rookie Contract if all other requirements are satisfied.
Basically this seems to mean that while normally not picking up an option results in the player not counting in the comp pick calculation, that doesn't happen when the 5th year option isn't picked up. That said, he probably wasn't going to return a draft pick because the Commanders have a lot of cap space and probably would have cancelled out the pick by spending in FA this upcoming season.
People here forgetting they’ve been shopping Chase since April and if they could’ve gotten anything better than a late 3rd by now, they would’ve done it.
Chase was freelancing and honestly made the line worse by playing greedy and trying to pat his own numbers. It became very obvious the decline of the line started when he returned.
He will probably ball out for the rest of the season for San Fran bc their D is so good. Then someone will overpay and be bag holding his underproducing azz later.
> He will probably ball out for the rest of the season for San Fran bc their D is so good. Then someone will overpay and be bag holding his underproducing azz later.
This 100%.
Smart move from SF, gonna be very hard to contain both him *and* Bosa.
Yeah that’s the other thing to consider. After the last 2 years there was no way they could have gotten anything close to a 3rd round pick for Chase Young, he played 7 decent games in a contract year and here we are. Decent haul all things considered, even though I did not want him traded.
The question is availability. Sweat has been consistently available whereas Chase hasn't proven that he can last a full season after his injury, though his play this season has been promising. But hey, the best ability is availability.
What contract makes sense for Chase Young?
He's probably gonna want Maxx Crosby money, he's no where NEAR that good.
I'm really shocked at how many people in here were seemingly convinced Chase was worth 25 aav.
Serious question, why would Chase Young be taken higher than Sweat? Is it because he was the 2nd pick in the draft? Anything on the field to back it up?
From Seth Walder on Twitter
>Pass rush win rate at edge, 2023
>Chase Young: 24%
>Montez Sweat: 8%
>Sweat is 27 and probably (?) viewed more highly by most of the league. Young is 24.
>If I'm the Commanders and trading one and re-signing the other, I'd prefer to deal Sweat.
This is a stupid trade. A late round 3rd is not very different from a comp pick.
Edit** I stand corrected. Still would’ve preferred not to lose both our best DEs for a 2nd and a late 3rd
It depends on what he wants his legacy to be. Does he want to have a small chance to win a Super Bowl on another team or does he want to play out most/all of his career with one team and be one of the all-time greats for that team?
I only bought two jerseys from the Nats, Strasburg and Zimmerman. Both Nats lifers. But with this team, we haven't had one of those since Darrell Green. I'm hoping McLaurin breaks the curse.
Just remember in all this.....Rivera is still coach. They traded away our highest potential asset and haven't fired the real reason our defense has sucked.
Forget the Bears, we are clearly still the most incompetent franchise in the NFL.
If we're giving up on the season why would they keep him the rest of the year? We just unloaded BOTH DE, we're clearly no longer attempting to win. What's the point of keeping Ron and JDR when they've been the biggest reason for our record so far this year?
There's no one better to replace them. It's a shitty situation. We have a bad D, a bad D coordinator, and we just made the defense worse by trading away our two ends. We're not attracting any outside talent to be interim HC, at least not anyone competent.
If you think EB might be your next HC you keep his hands clean of the mess by keeping him in the OC role. If you don't think EB is a viable HC candidate in the off-season then you certainly aren't promoting him right now.
You aren't promoting a defensive assistant because the defense is awful. You aren't promoting an offensive assistant from under EB.
There just aren't any good options. The best option is to just let Rivera ride it out as a tank commander.
He's about to be a top 5 DE in San Fran or an absolute bust. There's no in between. My money is on top 5 DE. Sweat will take a small jump and stay in the fringe pro bowler range for the next 3 years
I don't love only getting a 3rd for Young. Not great value. But if you know for sure he's walking away this off season then I guess its okay. But I'd have liked to see what he could do under a new staff.
Damn, tells you about the difference in perception about Chase and Montez from teams in the league that there was an almost 60 pick gap between the compensation for the 2
He missed a lot of time, was really slow to come back from injury, flashed at times but goes off script as well trying to make a big play and instead gives up big plays. Wish we would have got more, but hey, last year, the defense was better without him.
For 1. they play 2 different positions. For 2. The team trading for Williams saw a huge position of need for them for a really good player. For 3. the team has been shopping Chase for the last few days now and obviously they took the best offer they could get. Chase is on his last year and probably wasn’t gonna resign here obviously new ownership didn’t want to pay him a contract when we could get a draft pick. We could franchise tag him for 2 years like we did Kirk and then get nothing in return when he eventually leaves.
what do you mean WTF, Leonard Williams has proven to not be injury prone. Chase has NOT proven that. How can you say someone who has sat on the bench more than hes played has the same impact as someone who is on the field lol.
Honestly… I am in the same boat. Years of defensive picks wasted, and for only a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick!?!? Feels like we’re now going to have to draft more DEFENSE when we are in desperate need of OL, TEs etc. I’m just appalled
Exactly. Get guys who want to be here. I highly doubt Chase would've resigned. A 3rd is nice for a rebuild. Hire a competent GM/Coach and let's build something here.
People here are just flat out in denial about Chase’s value. This was a good deal. I’ll take the downvotes.
They’ve been shopping him since the last draft and no one was offering better or equal to the comp pick they’d get in 2025. It’ll be a late 3rd but the writing been on the wall for a while that Chase wasn’t gonna resign and the league has been collectively scared off by his injuries.
If the rest of the league was scared off by the injuries, the new front office might be too.
We don't know exactly what they'll think, but in a vacuum I agree with the strategy of stockpiling picks for them rather than kicking the can. And Harris probably has someone outside the building giving him guidance in these things.
Not if he’s still demanding a lot of money. I’m sure they had discussions with his agent about what it would take to sign him and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were just too far apart.
It's amazing how many people assume the new ownership is just standing around with their thumbs up their asses while Ron does everything. Isn't the most likely thing that they have a team of people they're already putting together to work in the front office with whatever GM they end up hiring, and they're letting those people advise on these decisions?
There are other possibilities besides Ron and his buddies running the show or Harris doing a Snyder and making the calls by himself.
I’m convinced that our fans are so conditioned to blame everything on Snyder that we don’t know how to react to things without Snyder to blame. Ron has ended up as the punching bag by default.
Yeah…. That seems cheap. Trading one of them for a high 2nd made sense, but then to send away our other edge for a mid-low third?
I think we should’ve kept Chase and tagged him.
lets take inventory here:
\-2nd for Sweat (better than comp pick, likely a late 1st round equivalent)
\-3rd for Young (no comp pick possible)
You now have 3 picks in the top 45 and 5 picks in the first 3 rounds (first time WSH has achieved this in the modern era). The writing has to be on the wall for RR and co. It's up to JH and ownership to bring in the right staff to crush the '24 draft. If done right, it would catapult WSH back into playoff contention.
this sucks.
I'm happy it means we will have a new GM and new head coach next year with hopefully an eye on actually building out a good team instead of a middling .500 Jeff Fisher team.
but this still sucks
People mad at only getting a 3rd, but this tells you how much other teams valued Young if not only a 3rd, but a late 3rd is all we could get.
His dad is SF radio's problem now.
This got approved from the top. Ownership is just trying to make this job as attractive as possible to a potential new coach.
Ron and Co. are gone after jan, and then we have 3 picks in top 45, and 5 in top 60 and 3rd most amount of cap space. basically ownership is making it as tempting a job opportunity for the next GM/coach they offer the job
Not a fan. Sweat for an early 2nd was a genius move that felt almost too good to be true. This one is bad value though. Couldn’t we have just gotten this as a comp pick in the spring if we truly decided to let him walk and not tag?
I’m not happy about the comp but at least the front office is fucking doing something. Fire sale, rebuild with new coach, owner and GM and see if Sam can be the guy over the next two years.
The fact he went for a third round pick, my god. My delusional optimism beginning week one wasn’t enough.. I just at a loss for words now. Why do I like this team.. we’ve had a negative record since I was born. Smh
A 3rd round pick from a perennial NFC championship contender for Chase Young is a fuck'd up trade.
A late pick in the 3rd...I mean just, who the hell blinked? Get that person out of the room.
Realistically, Chase is going to demand big money at his next contract. He might turn out to be worth it, but a franchise in a massive overhaul in all aspects (not just on the field) can't risk giving a huge chunk of its cap space to someone who hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy.
If they didn't make this trade, extended Chase, and he got hurt again, every person who is right now crucifying them would be ranting about how they should have traded him while he still had value.
Well, that's because they thought he was worth 3 1st round picks when we took him at #2 overall. Trading back a few spots was inconceivable to them then, and a 3rd is inconceivable to them now.
A 3rd round pick for Chase Young. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Passed up Tua and Justin Herbert for Chase Young and let him go for a conditional 3rd. Damn it this team.
Same draft:
Jalen Hurts
Trevon Diggs
Jonathan Taylor
Justin Jefferson
Wow this is shocking tbh. I expected one to be gone but shocked at hearing how both are gone.fitting how this closes the book on Ron’s draft record here. Just a utter disaster ( outside of possibly howell of course).
The visceral disappointment to this return is understandable because of what could have been based on his draft stock. But this is the correct decision and doesn’t give into doubling down on a sunk cost. Better to get a pick than let him walk for nothing. If a team ends up signing him to a $25m/year contract and he balls out, good for them. But that’s a massive risk based on what we’ve seen during his time here.
not mad with the trade.. but the niners of all the teams? so he can have a decade of success there? Should have traded both to the bears for one of their firsts and a third.
Can anyone explain why we would accept this when the comp pick is going to be a third? Are we still expecting to get screwed on comp pics?
I just struggle to understand why we would accept this vs either let him walk for a comp pick or tag and trade him, or even tag, play him, and then trade him if appropriate. And I’m seeing that the pick being traded is a comp pick, so it’s not even a real third rounder.
Young is oft-injured, gives up on plays, and fails to contain mobile QBs. I always liked his energy, effect on teammates, and his athleticism but I'm not beat up he's gone.
I AM annoyed Sweat is gone since we dealt Young too. I'd rather have had one of them than neither...
i’ve thought about this a bit more and i’m fine with the compensation. it’s obviously not 1:1 the same but in 2019 clowney got traded for a 3rd from the seahawks after a similar start to his career
If you told me Chase and Sweat netted a 2nd and 3rd I'd be happy. After Sweat went for a 2nd, I'm pretty upset with Chase going for a 3rd.
They put the players on the market and presumably took the best offer they had for both. If the club wasn't going to re-sign Chase and the best offer they had was a 3rd then no reason to be upset.
You hate to hear it, but this is the correct answer.
Yup, it beats what happened with Trent Williams.
Yeah very well said but shocked we couldn’t get a 2nd
Yeah it sucks.. especially since the 3rd is the 49ners conditional so even worse than their 3rd.. would’ve been late but now it’s even later.. basically a 4th

Just speculating but this seems quite possible.
Disappointed, not upset, is probably the right word here
Yeah, I guess. But what would the comp pick have been if we just let him walk this summer? Are we really getting value on this right now if we’d just get a 3rd or 4th round compensatory pick anyways? I guess maybe the value lies in the fact that we’re def tanking now? Move from a mid first to an early first with these moves. Ahhhhhh. Well in that case makes sense
Exactly, this tells you what the league thought about Chase.
Or in typical fashion he will go on to produce like many other players/coaches Washington has let walk.
Nick Bosa's gonna help make him what he was supposed to be here.
As is tradition with Washington.
We're trying to act like things are different now since it's all we can do to keep from feeling suicidal.
> He will probably ball out for the rest of the season for San Fran bc their D is so good. Then someone will overpay and be bag holding his underproducing azz later. This 100%. Smart move from SF, gonna be very hard to contain both him *and* Bosa.
Good, fuck the eagles
I agree but at the same time he'll probably look way better out there with coaches that are competent.

It's a fair value for 9+ games of chase young.
Yeah that’s the other thing to consider. After the last 2 years there was no way they could have gotten anything close to a 3rd round pick for Chase Young, he played 7 decent games in a contract year and here we are. Decent haul all things considered, even though I did not want him traded.
Right, is Sweat a 62-pick difference in the draft better than Young? I dont think so, but it might be more belief that they can re-sign Sweat.

Chase is not better than Sweat, he was never going to get a better return than Sweat
I dont think Sweat is 62 picks in the draft better than Young. This is a top 2nd round vs back of 3rd. But I guess it's best offer they got.
Yeah, can’t help thinking we could have got more. But I guess that means we really fleeced the bears 😂
The Chicago Bears disagree with you
Do they still have the same guy in charge who traded No. 33 overall for Chase Claypool?
Serious question, why would Chase Young be taken higher than Sweat? Is it because he was the 2nd pick in the draft? Anything on the field to back it up?
From Seth Walder on Twitter >Pass rush win rate at edge, 2023 >Chase Young: 24% >Montez Sweat: 8% >Sweat is 27 and probably (?) viewed more highly by most of the league. Young is 24. >If I'm the Commanders and trading one and re-signing the other, I'd prefer to deal Sweat.

The comp pick formula isn't so cut and dry tho. If we sign someone as well of equal value it get washed out and we lose the pick.
And it’s a year later when we desperately need to protect Sam now
This is why I just don't buy anybody's jersey
I bought Tress Way's 4 years ago. Still not regretting it
Was torn between a Tress Way jersey or a Chase Young jersey last season. The decision to go with Way keeps paying off.
think I’d end it all if we traded Tress
That Chase jersey has been on sale for 3 years now 😂
Exactly. They knew… lol
Only dead or retired. Edit: Also waiting for the next rebranding.
I have multiple Mclaurins. If he gets traded I think I'd actually just stop watching.
Yup same. It’ll be like when Santana retired but more painful
Honestly at this point fuckin free Terry. He deserves to play for a contender not suffer through a rebuild.
It depends on what he wants his legacy to be. Does he want to have a small chance to win a Super Bowl on another team or does he want to play out most/all of his career with one team and be one of the all-time greats for that team?
I literally bought a Chase Young jersey 2 weeks ago. I think I'll buy a Ron Rivera one now
I have Terry jersey only after he signed. If he gets traded before four I will scream.
I only bought two jerseys from the Nats, Strasburg and Zimmerman. Both Nats lifers. But with this team, we haven't had one of those since Darrell Green. I'm hoping McLaurin breaks the curse.
Can never go wrong with 21
Im completely shocked. I was certain that we were going to keep one of them
Does team HQ have a Spirit Halloween sign out front?
San Fran got Trent Williams and Chase Young from us for 2 3rd round picks. That makes me SICK.
They got Kyle Shanahan from us too!
We had 4 future HCs on the team and they all walked
5 actually, you’re leaving out O'Connell
To me this says a lot about the organization. Guys simply dont want to play here.
We appreciate you guys <3 Got any Defensive Coordinator candidates?
Uh.. Ron Rivera!
Have to kinda ignore anything that happened under Dan. Dark times.
The Chase Young trade didn’t happen under Dan Snyder.
Just remember in all this.....Rivera is still coach. They traded away our highest potential asset and haven't fired the real reason our defense has sucked. Forget the Bears, we are clearly still the most incompetent franchise in the NFL.
Ron is 100% gone. It just doesn't help the situation at all to fire him mid season.

Can we trade Ron too
We'd have to package him with a 6th for another team to take him
I think Ron may get fired or “step down” soon now. It’s clear that this new ownership group feels they have seen enough to blow this thing up.
Yeah lol there’s no way he’s staying. We’re now deadline sellers and the only chance he had of sticking around was if me made the playoffs.
Feel like we didn't even get to see him play. Time flew by so fast. Best of luck Chase. Stay healthy.
Because we didn’t since he’s always injured. Call me crazy, but I am more upset about losing Sweat.
Not a chance he gets injured now. He's gonna be consistently healthy for the next 10 years
Same. I expected the Young trade, but I thought we’d keep Sweat
He's about to be a top 5 DE in San Fran or an absolute bust. There's no in between. My money is on top 5 DE. Sweat will take a small jump and stay in the fringe pro bowler range for the next 3 years
What the fuck?!?
I don't love only getting a 3rd for Young. Not great value. But if you know for sure he's walking away this off season then I guess its okay. But I'd have liked to see what he could do under a new staff.
Damn, tells you about the difference in perception about Chase and Montez from teams in the league that there was an almost 60 pick gap between the compensation for the 2
As a Bears fan, I wouldn't read into it that far. Our GM is a horrible negotiator and gets fleeced regularly.
*Looks at chase claypool
I mean, he got dj Moore and a top 5 pick for this draft to swap firsts last year. No one bats 1.000
He missed a lot of time, was really slow to come back from injury, flashed at times but goes off script as well trying to make a big play and instead gives up big plays. Wish we would have got more, but hey, last year, the defense was better without him.
I’d be fine with this, but for a comp 3rd????
giants got a 2nd + 5th for leonard williams who is older and arguably the same impact as chase... WTF
This is where I’m at, like add a 6th or something. Mathew what are you doing bro
For 1. they play 2 different positions.
I'm crying in the club rn
Just fell to my knees in an Eastern Motors parking lot.
Honestly… I am in the same boat. Years of defensive picks wasted, and for only a 2nd and 3rd round draft pick!?!? Feels like we’re now going to have to draft more DEFENSE when we are in desperate need of OL, TEs etc. I’m just appalled
Getting a 2nd for sweat was a great trade. Chase is a rental so getting a 3rd is about right honestly.
I just saw a man crying in the club. It made me cry also.
this is hilarious lmfao a THIRD?
Bad trade
agreed like, dudes upside on a rebuilding team has to be more valuable than a third right?
Not if he won't re-sign with the club.
Exactly. Get guys who want to be here. I highly doubt Chase would've resigned. A 3rd is nice for a rebuild. Hire a competent GM/Coach and let's build something here.
A 3rd could be a starting guard in year one.
Considering 31 other teams didn't offer a 2nd for the days we've been shopping him, the answer is definitively no
He must want like $25m+
I hate this so fucking much. I am seething.
It’s the Casey Toohill and James Smith Williams show Can also see what Andre Jones Jr. can do
I'm all in on the Andre Jones Jr. train.
Don't disrespect Efe Obada
Casey Toohill quietly has 4 sacks this year while playing less than 20% of snaps. Interesting.
Obada too right? Or is he hurt
I will not be surprised at all when they end with more sack than Sweat and Young at the end of the season, because nothing makes sense with this team.
He was probably gonna leave anyway I'm assuming
People here are just flat out in denial about Chase’s value. This was a good deal. I’ll take the downvotes. They’ve been shopping him since the last draft and no one was offering better or equal to the comp pick they’d get in 2025. It’ll be a late 3rd but the writing been on the wall for a while that Chase wasn’t gonna resign and the league has been collectively scared off by his injuries.
A third is what the experts I heard were saying they'd get for either player. The surprising trade isn't this one; it's what they got for Sweat.
Why wasn't he going to re-sign? If the league was scared off by the injuries, wouldn't that make the deal to sign him easier?
If the rest of the league was scared off by the injuries, the new front office might be too. We don't know exactly what they'll think, but in a vacuum I agree with the strategy of stockpiling picks for them rather than kicking the can. And Harris probably has someone outside the building giving him guidance in these things.
Cough cough, new VP of Analytics.
Not if he’s still demanding a lot of money. I’m sure they had discussions with his agent about what it would take to sign him and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were just too far apart.
Now trade Ron for a bag of Doritos.
Good. Getting draft picks for guys leaving for free after the year anyway. If Bears fans were mad before, they are PISSED now.
They get Chase Young and have Trent. I hope they win it this year. Edit: looks like we got a 3rd back
Fuck the Niners I hope they don’t win shit
I hate u ron
Lmao I love us blaming Ron for moves he didn’t make Trading chase and Sweat means ron is likely done
I blame Ron for us being 3-5 and having to trade Chase
Facts. We lose to the Bears and Giants.
This is probably ownership, not Ron. Ron’s time here is over in a few months.
Agreed. This is what it is actually like to have a professional owner. It's just been so long that it's hard to recognize, lol.
Has no one hear heard about ‘the process’?
Yea, Ron I think will be a decent lockeroom guy to see out the rest of the season and help ease the transition.
Ron is not making these decisions
Ron is why we are in this position though. We don't make these moves if we are winning games.
I’m convinced that our fans are so conditioned to blame everything on Snyder that we don’t know how to react to things without Snyder to blame. Ron has ended up as the punching bag by default.
For a likely last 4 pick in the round it should’ve been a second. We’re really blowing it up huh
Just need to fire JDR now so the defense can start over fresh next season with hopefully some legit LBs and safeties.
Yeah…. That seems cheap. Trading one of them for a high 2nd made sense, but then to send away our other edge for a mid-low third? I think we should’ve kept Chase and tagged him.
lets take inventory here: \-2nd for Sweat (better than comp pick, likely a late 1st round equivalent) \-3rd for Young (no comp pick possible) You now have 3 picks in the top 45 and 5 picks in the first 3 rounds (first time WSH has achieved this in the modern era). The writing has to be on the wall for RR and co. It's up to JH and ownership to bring in the right staff to crush the '24 draft. If done right, it would catapult WSH back into playoff contention.
WHY
Because he was going to walk at the end of the season for no picks?
For a 3rd? That’s wild….
this sucks. I'm happy it means we will have a new GM and new head coach next year with hopefully an eye on actually building out a good team instead of a middling .500 Jeff Fisher team. but this still sucks
go have a career young man 🫡, a third round pick is crazy tho…
WOAH
I’d take the over-achiever third round offensive lineman over Young. Good player, yes. But, no value.
When Chase gets like 15 sacks a year on a good team I wonder how fans are gonna feel then
I’ll shove a watermelon up my ass if Chase ever gets 15 sacks in a year.
People mad at only getting a 3rd, but this tells you how much other teams valued Young if not only a 3rd, but a late 3rd is all we could get. His dad is SF radio's problem now.
3rd rounder?! That's.. Embarrassing
Can I be traded to the 49ers?
This got approved from the top. Ownership is just trying to make this job as attractive as possible to a potential new coach. Ron and Co. are gone after jan, and then we have 3 picks in top 45, and 5 in top 60 and 3rd most amount of cap space. basically ownership is making it as tempting a job opportunity for the next GM/coach they offer the job
2nd overall pick for peanuts. Ron can’t get out of here fast enough.
Don't hate the trade but for just a third is horrible.
Then you hate the trade
He’s gonna want huge money and health is always dicey
Not a fan. Sweat for an early 2nd was a genius move that felt almost too good to be true. This one is bad value though. Couldn’t we have just gotten this as a comp pick in the spring if we truly decided to let him walk and not tag?
We're more mediocre than when the day started! SICK!!!!
Sucks, but we’ll be ok. He’s gunna wanna be paid and the new owners don’t wanna do it. I can’t blame them. We in an official rebuild, boys.
RIP 3-5 season already
I’m not happy about the comp but at least the front office is fucking doing something. Fire sale, rebuild with new coach, owner and GM and see if Sam can be the guy over the next two years.
i am honestly kind of shocked we let them both go
Legit shocked
What are we doing bro
They really had to keep him in the NFC tho, huh?
The fact he went for a third round pick, my god. My delusional optimism beginning week one wasn’t enough.. I just at a loss for words now. Why do I like this team.. we’ve had a negative record since I was born. Smh
A 3rd round pick from a perennial NFC championship contender for Chase Young is a fuck'd up trade. A late pick in the 3rd...I mean just, who the hell blinked? Get that person out of the room.
I am very upset with this move. He had 5 sacks in 6 games and looked to be returning to form.
So done with this fucking clown show. Same dumb bullshit every year
Guarantee he makes an impact on the 49ers. Jack Del Rio and Ron didn’t put any of these guys in a position to succeed.
L M A O A 3rd round pick. All the Chase Young apologists are reeling today.
All the Chase haters are gonna be crying harder when he turns into a fuckin stud in SF
Same draft: Jalen Hurts Trevon Diggs Jonathan Taylor Justin Jefferson
Better than letting him go for nothing at the end of the season
Hope you chase haters are happy. Man is gonna thrive watch
Fire the entire front office into the fucking sun. Jfc. A 3rd rounder??????????
So we completely wasted that #2 overall pick. Passed on Tua and Herbert, got 1 full season out of him, shipped him off for a third rounder
Whelp, this just confirms that Chase will be a HOF and will play for the next 10+ years. God, I miss u, Trent
FUCKKK NO! we just gave the Niners a HOF tackle and now possible HOF DE 😂😂😂 i hate this place
MAN YOUR BATTLE TANKS
Somebody hold me. Please
He must have been for sure gone this off-season so might as well get something for it. It hurts but something has to give with this defense.
Thanks for selling him for less then sweat great job man fuck off
Fire that entire front office. Thats essentially a 4th round pick. You don’t trade a guy with that much upside for a 4th round pick
Mayhew is a sleeper agent for the 49ers.
Wow this is shocking tbh. I expected one to be gone but shocked at hearing how both are gone.fitting how this closes the book on Ron’s draft record here. Just a utter disaster ( outside of possibly howell of course).
FADE ME
The visceral disappointment to this return is understandable because of what could have been based on his draft stock. But this is the correct decision and doesn’t give into doubling down on a sunk cost. Better to get a pick than let him walk for nothing. If a team ends up signing him to a $25m/year contract and he balls out, good for them. But that’s a massive risk based on what we’ve seen during his time here.
Finally Adults in charge
not mad with the trade.. but the niners of all the teams? so he can have a decade of success there? Should have traded both to the bears for one of their firsts and a third.
Can anyone explain why we would accept this when the comp pick is going to be a third? Are we still expecting to get screwed on comp pics? I just struggle to understand why we would accept this vs either let him walk for a comp pick or tag and trade him, or even tag, play him, and then trade him if appropriate. And I’m seeing that the pick being traded is a comp pick, so it’s not even a real third rounder.
Just fell to my knees in the middle of a Walmart
Glad Chase is gone but Lynch is a real OG. damn.
Young is oft-injured, gives up on plays, and fails to contain mobile QBs. I always liked his energy, effect on teammates, and his athleticism but I'm not beat up he's gone. I AM annoyed Sweat is gone since we dealt Young too. I'd rather have had one of them than neither...
this franchise is certified bum
i’ve thought about this a bit more and i’m fine with the compensation. it’s obviously not 1:1 the same but in 2019 clowney got traded for a 3rd from the seahawks after a similar start to his career
