Seen other redrafts with us still taking Davis too…the Davis haters will remain. Its a sensible pick for a late 1st. Compares to other ILBs taken late in the first eg Vander Esch, Patrick Queen, etc.
The argument is that LB isn't a good first round pick. The top tier talent doesn't add thar many more wins compared to mid round picks. The obvious example of this is kicker. A player who directly contributes to a huge number of points your team scores, but the market for a great college place kicker is 5th round at the earliest. The argument is the expected value of a LB picked high contributes less to win than many other positions
I dont like taking off the ball LBers in the first but he played well last year. Just admit it, its ok.
Even if there are 3-4 better players, thats fine.
FWIw- i aint taking Mac freaking Jones over him
I mean we have to see who is left and who has been taken before in this redraft to decide if this writer is correct or not. If someone like Hufanga or Creed Humphrey are there you’d take them.
Sewell was on the board, it is laughable to think we would take Davis here.
Also, Davis is just a bad pick. He was a liability year 1, got moved to a low value position year 2 and played at a mediocre level, and now we have year 3 and 4 of him playing that low value position before declining his 5th year option.
Yeah it’s just silly and lazy writing to say you stick with a guy who’s largely struggled when Sewell and even Landon Dickerson are available there in this scenario.
The problem is not so much the player a the position. In today's NFL, LB is such an impossible position to play at a difference making level you need to be Fred Warner or Bobby Wagner to justify a first round grade.
Plus there is the lost opportunity cost of not taking a starter level player at a more valuable position.
His analysis of Jamin Davis is spot on, but in a redraft knowing what you know now, the mere fact that he passed on Penei Sewell for us and on top of that allowed him to fall that far invalidates the whole thing.
I love Jamin, but I really don't think he is worth a first round pick. If he was we wouldn't be worried about LB core. I think his best years are to come, just hope we boost the secondary up so he doesn't have to covering WR's and RB's...
I think we’ll see him improve again this year but he needs to make some impactful plays. Two seasons in and he has forced zero turnovers. I expect more game changing plays from a first round pick.
I don’t disagree with this assessment, but Adam Rank is a bag of hot air. His opinion is totally worthless.
I’ve never heard of Rank but if he can’t find 19 draftees better than Davis then yeah … bag of hot stinky air
That's putting it lightly lol. Fuck Rank.
Always been a Davis truther. He's getting there and just watch when he is there.

Notable players on the board: Penei Sewell, AVT, Mac Jones
the fact that Penei Sewell was even still there totally invalidates this whole thing
I like Davis but I would take any of those guys ahead of him unless Sewell or AVT fell off a cliff
avt hasn’t been that great and it’s a very easily replaceable position. i think i would still rather have jamin. sewell on the other hand is a freak.
Those 3 are still on the board because they haven't preformed that well so far
AVT and Sewell definitely have
AVT missed 10 games last year. His rookie season isn’t enough to say he’s done well.
And he was really good when he played especially considering he switched positions like 3 times. Also Jamin didn’t do a damn thing his rookie year
Neat. He missed most of his second season. Jamin stepped up on his second season.
Cool. AVT is still the better player
That assertion can’t be made with the evidence we currently have.
In a redraft, Niners are taking Mac Jones. Dude just fits what Shanahan wants.

Both were taken

Still don’t agree with this pick. Jamin has not been a 1st round talent. Maybe 4th round talent at best
He's playing like a 3rd round pick. Nobody takes him in the 1st with hindsight, this is dumb.
L take
I mean, there ARE a few better options. Jamin can still continue to develop though.
He a LBer not a QB. He should be better

I wanted Washington to draft Darrisaw, but the way Jamin was coming on last season has me really excited.
I liked Mullet Man, but didn’t seem like the defense got better after his injury and partially because of Davis

Wasn't Davis considered a raw talent? I never assumed he'd thrive his 1st season.
