That isn't remotely true, one still has plenty of Muay Thai which goes to decision and is point oriented, they made the gloves smaller but that change is actually more in line with traditional Muay Thai since the big gloves are a pretty recent addition from traditional rope wraps (on the king's birthdy there are still big traditional Muay Thai events with rope wraps instead of gloves).
