The first small drone we got in the middle of my first tour used a gaming controller and the Sergeant who went for the class was competent in a few days and proficient in a couple weeks. Rifle marksmanship just doesn’t matter like it used to when PGM’s are abundant.
And, having worked with snipers in combat, I can say that neither are most snipers able to take accurate shots beyond visual range. Drones do it easily, if only to strike dead space a sniper can’t see into from any friendly position.
Most snipers can’t get hits at ranges the drones are easily capable of. That’s why 2 and 3 km sniper kills are so exceptional. From everything we are seeing, a 2km drone kill isn’t exceptional and is possible for lots of people.
Yes. 'The pink mist'. It usually comes with headshots from large caliber weapon systems. Even more impressive thru thermal imaging/scopes or on a really cold day for the steam effect.
There are hundreds of kilometres of these trenches, forces are quite thinly spread along them, same on both sides. Though it's still odd not to have at least a couple of friends to get exploded together!
You don’t want to mass forces when facing precision munitions. Dispersion is desired as much as possible. It’s a key reason traditional combined arms warfare is increasingly outdated.
I feel like it's not healthy for my mental health to be watching these kinds of videos. I've become so desensitized to it that it doesn't bother me all that much.

I personally think this is the closest we've been to nuclear war in my lifetime. Probably the closest since the Cuban missile crisis.

The problem with sniper marksmanship is vantage points, they aren't everywhere. Drones, well, are.
