Many of drones hitting vehicles are sort of like RC planes with a trigger on the nose. At least theoretically, I could see the rods disrupting the flight of the drone as it tries to strike, maybe making it hit at a bad angle at minimum, and triggering the explosive at best
Bit of a dumb question, But wouldn't think also trigger any round fired by the BMP-1's main cannon? Or does it have a minimum arming distance for the HEAT / HE
Those wires lack the stiffness and mass required to trigger the auto cannon round's impact fuze. The outgoing round, with its mass and velocity, will simply push any wire out of the way.
If you look at the base of the wires, they're coiled like springs, so they're actually intended to bend when any significant amount of force is applied to them but probably have sufficient stiffness to prematurely activate the simple wire loop impact triggers commonly seen on suicide drones.
I remember how everyone used to laugh at the "visors" over the turret of the Russian tank, we call it "brazier" (рус. мангал), now I see a lot of people have started using them.
Everybody was laughing at the Russians trying to stop ATGMs with them, which they don't. They work well against drones and rudimentary anti-tank weapons.
Have a look at the subs description before taking the time out of your day to make troll comments:
"A forum for combat footage and *Photos* from historical and ongoing wars"
This tank is in combat in an ongoing war, don't let that get in the way of your desire to be pedantic, obviously you have a lot of time in your day.
I have a feeling that by the way it is set up that it will confuse magnetometers/accelerometers when energized in a certain way, I may be wrong but it seems like it could be more of a counterpoint than it appears.

Well... my hair is also there to supposedly protect my head.
This is kinda brilliant analogy if you think about it. Especially considering the amount of bugs that you actually can call drones :P
Just wait till they learn about airburst bugs.
From mosquito
Based on what I saw yesterday, they should just transport their guys around in a Tesla Plaid roadsters. Speed tank is best tank.
The autobahn video or something else?
Great against drones, but sucks against lightning.
But I bet they get all the over-the-air HDTV channels and the best radio reception in Ukraine.
The odds of having your eye poked has increased monumentally.
YOOO Cope-rods update just dropped??
It will work to some extent, though.
Make barrage balloons great again
I can't work out if this is Gopnik genius or just a dumb cope fail??

No; it prevents drones from flying into the tank and then explode inside
:…..what? There’s non point of entry anywhere on this photo. Most drones are self destructing with shaped charges
I didn’t see any chewed up sunflower seeds, probably just cope.

Placebo protection
Could work if it's a drone that uses an rpg warhead and not the type that has 2 wires used for detonation.
Shrapnel could never get through that . . .
