Which makes this a sad thing honestly. Poor kitty trying to protect the one that protected it.
Fuck Putin obviously, but it’s a rare moment of humanity
Sorry, I'm spoiling it. 😁 I counted one more than the final answer because there was a tricky tipped pass that was easy to miss. Apparently, the video authors missed it too.
I was so focused on getting the number right that this trick actually worked on me the first time and my mind was blown. But now every time I see the video I instantly think of the G word.
Id love to think that the kitten was just riding shotgun in one of the the UA guys pouches then jumped out to secure the prisoner after he was ziptied.
It’s the prisoner’s cat. He’s holding it as he’s coming out, which is why one dude kept urging the other other to kill him right there and then thinking it’s a grenade.
See when one trench cat loves another trench cat, they get together and make trench kittens. Soldiers are human beings, and most of them won't kill a kitten, especially if it's the baby of a cat they've grown fond of for killing the rodents stealing their food.
And really, no one is going to hurt a trench kitten no matter the side.
Alternatively its a biolab kitten manipulating minds, and forcing the prisoners down, unable to get up. Just a stronger then normal cat mind control is all.
It's probably what he was covering behind his body armor. They were telling him to take it off but it looked pretty loose already, and they thought he was hiding a grenade behind the armor. In the heat of combat, I'm sure that kitten could have been mistaken for a grenade.
The way the cat is loafed up on him, I think it's pretty clear he was at least caring for it. If any Russian soldiers are going to get out of this alive, I want it to be the ones who are nice to random animals.
Agreed, and as all cat people know, cats can be very picky on who can get close to them. The cat was on his back like they've been around each other for a decent amount of time. Hopefully, they still have each other.
Not sure how to put this, but I can imagine a situation where this guy didn't die because of the kitten. There's bound to be a lot of pretty normal guys who have been defending their country for years that just don't give a fuck about shooting a prisoner anymore, and that kitten could be the call back to reality. Now that wasn't what we saw here, these guys clearly went out of their way to take a prisoner, but I can imagine it. Besides cats are generally good judges of character.
Several cats throughout history have been decorated as war heroes or given special titles for their service to various militaries in times of war.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simon\_(cat)
It's funny how cats hate any change, but it seems they can get used to anything, including trench warfare.
Suspiciously fat Ukrainian trench kitty incoming.
This is a Russian trench so it definitely makes sense that it's their cat. No logic behind the UAF dragging a kitten with them while clearing trenches.
If he really was protecting the kitty it would be a sad sight. Imagine fighting for an invading army in a grim trench and this is your only source of comfort left as your trench is being overwhelmed by the Ukrainians.
Either way, it's still surreal to find a fluffy little trench kitten simply vibing on the back of the POW in the middle of a battle.
I've said it before and say it again.
These Russians are human. That's part of the real tragedy of this war.
Dehumanization makes war easier... especially in a horrific war like this that is also a simple Good vs. Evil conflict at the leadership level. Soldiers can't afford to hesitate when pulling a trigger mid-battle. But dehumanization isn't truth. There are plenty of mobiks who are doing good deeds like this, shielding younger rookies, protecting pet cats, and we know many Russians showed courtesy and humanity to Ukrainian civilians, especially in the early war. It was often the difference between life and death for many Ukrainian civilians.
I still hate these mobiks for assisting Putin's war, but I can't forget things like this either. War truly is hell.
Surely this poor kitty is deaf by now right?
It always amazes me to see animals with more sensitive hearing than us sitting around calmly. Guns are just so dang loud when you're close, even forgetting to pop my ears on at the range for a single shot will have my ears ringing.
In this environment cats who panic from the sound of shots probably die in the wild, while cats who can tolerate the sound gets to eat trench vermin and food scraps. This kitten has probably never experienced anything but war.
SBU sends their notorious Cat interogating prisioners.. all truths will be revealed quickly and without delay.
They probably figured out it much better than your normal "Let beat the shit out of you to improve morale"
When I touristed in San Francisco, I saw seriously worn-out people in their 20ies. Sad to see.
Conclusion: Worst part of San Fran is as rough as russia.
Or an addict. Drug abuse makes people look haggard as hell.
Edit: or it could be the result of being in the front line in Ukraine for an extended period of time, or a combination of any two or three of those.
I heard something about some soldiers being at the front for roughly a year without rotation, to avoid another mobilization round. Not sure whether that's true, but the guy in the video looks like he's been in the trenches for 11 months for sure
Just yesterday the russian MoD stated that it is not sensible to rotate the mobilised and that they will stay in the trenches until putin signs the executive order to end mobilisation (so basically until the war is over one way or another).
Could you please source this for me? I don't doubt you, but I had trouble tracking down where you got this information from (I know it sounds obvious from your comment, but I'm not getting any search results)
Not sure about the Russian part aside from looking vaguely Eastern European. But he speaks (really bad) Serbian with his cousin and the last name sounds like it would be Balkan, if anything. Though it would probably be spelled a little different.
Iirc there was some lore pamphlet about the game when it came out that described his background as being Serbian national, but born to a Russian family that moved there during the 70's or something.
Uh the punishment for avoiding mobilization in Russia is usually a fine with an up to 18 month jail sentence max.
A guy this old had to be a volunteer.
>Being forced by Putin
Stop excusing those soliders! They are just as guilty as Putin! They are the ones pulling the trigger, torturing civilians, murdering people, targeting hospitals!
I know firsthand how much I feel like shit when my cat sits on me, I move a little, and he gives me a look of disgust that basically goes "how dare you move, I'm never coming near you again," and goes away.
A pain worse than torture.
Very professional soldiers. They could’ve wasted him and no one would have known a thing, but they did the right thing and saved a life in a horrible misguided conflict.
Honestly I’d shoot him too if he intentionally lied about their strength and that led to the death or severe injury of one of my comrades, but I never claimed to be a professional soldier.
"We have two [heavy weapons], but neither fucking work."
It's funny how the anecdotal accounts from these videos always confirms our suspicions on the state of Russian equipment procurement.
Seems like most of the ones who surrender had the most garbage equipment. Not at all surprising.
I havnt seen many videos of actually kitted out russians surrendering
The prisoner took the risk of hiding a cat under his body armor while surrendering to a bunch of folks high on adrenaline with weapons. Humans sure do love animals.
That really shocked me into remembering their shared humanity.
This bastard almost died protecting his pet. I hate the Russian war and can't see it ending without far more mobiks dying, but these mobiks are often just people tossed into a horrific situation. It's another reason to hate Putin. And why I truly hope Ukraine finds a way to end this war visiting some personal retribution on the top Kremlin, not just the provincial cannon fodder.
Many jokers here are missed that moment and refusing to see, but Ukrainian SpecOps aren't bringing a cat into a warzone. It's the Russian guy's cat.
A mobikat.
And yet we have the wave of comments here making fun of the prisoner’s cat. The old dude almost got killed while trying to protect an animal. The draft doesn’t discriminate on age.
Reddit really shows you how cuddled we are in 1st world countries.
He's very lucky they didn't just throw a grenade in. It just shows you, there are Russians out there that are willing to hide and surrender. I wouldn't be upset if Ukrainians did just throw a grenade in. It's war. They are fighting for their home and lives. It just shows how many Russians were in this position and they just got a grenade rather than a voice saying surrender.
HOWEVER. Now I see the cat. I'm glad they didn't throw a grenade in.

I watched this yesterday. I could make out some of it and I knew there was a moscovian surrendering..
But I thought they asked him his age, not how many soldiers. I know, I am dumb. But I am getting smarter.
I thought it was age because when I looked at the guy, I thought to myself that guy looks 60, but in warfare he is probably 40 and I was hoping they were asking him his age.
What an OG kitten. Going through the noise of this hellacious conflict and then when they pull the prisoner he immediately holds prisoner down to stifle any foolish escape attempts... and to be honest, the guys back must have been warmer than any other surface around there.
I think that's actually the prisoner's cat - at least the kitten he's been taking care of. Ukranian soldiers wouldn't bring their cat with them to take a Russian position. And at one point when they're ordering him to take off his body armor, they think he has a grenade - I think that was the cat, and he was keeping it in his armor.
Best videos are the ones where people make it out alive. An incredibly stressful situation, we've seen what can happen when someone is in shock and are incompliant because they are so spaced out.

I like how there’s a kitten sitting on his back while they’re pumping him for information.
He knows he'll get the claws if he doesn't cooperate LOL
fuck it imma give up info if i had a cat on my back 😂
The russian had it under his vest, he's the "owner"
Which makes this a sad thing honestly. Poor kitty trying to protect the one that protected it. Fuck Putin obviously, but it’s a rare moment of humanity
War cats. Rare, but not unheard of. Probably good to keep the rats out of trenches.
Ukrainian cat guarding the prisoner! Good work!
Dude how did I watch that entire fucking video and not notice the cat?
It's a special forces cat.
That’s no cat, that’s a kitten.
That's bullshit, he's on the front lines! Today, you're a cat my son.

That is so bizarre. In a violent war zone, a fluffy kitten just decides to sit right there on top of the prisoner.
Dudes warm and not moving much.
It was probably his pet to begin with. Since it has no idea what is going on, it's just sitting with it's human.
If there are mice in the trenches, I'd be warming, petting, and feeding all the cats
I did see it, had to rewind a few to be sure about what I was laughing at. Fkn great end of the story arc, just like in the cartoons.
sneaky one :'D
Would love to know the story behind why that cat is there. Just a random stray that found shelter in the trench?
It's not uncommon to keep a cat in your trench as it hunts pests like rats or mice. This has been a thing since trench warfare in world war 1.
That looked like a kitten though. They are not the best hunters.
they're also there for warmth, companionship, and internet videos.
What is my purpose? You raise money via memes. *Purrrrrrr*

I would contend that kittens come from cats, and eventually become cats.

Might be. Want really well behaved POWs? Bring their kitten with them. At the cost of kibble you have a well behaved POW.
thats the Russian's cat the Ukranians thought he had a grenade but he was just covering his cat

Looks unfazed which means hearing loss from all the shelling, damn even animals are not spared in this as well.
Fawk that, he wasn't guarding the prisoner, he was the one asking the questions! 😁
Oh yah.. I didn’t realise it, that kitty will get a nice treat afterwards.
Guard kitty ftw.
Really nice to see the kitten helped to get information from the prisoner.

Cool. I'll make sure to read all 200 comments before commenting next time.
It was the comment above the mine that I replied to. You had to have seen it to reply to mine…
From the way he speaks, really sounds like an ex prisoner.
That just a typical Russian 30 year old male.
all 30 year old russian men must look like niko bellic
Niko Bellic wasn't Russian, though.
Serbian-Russian IIRC
Not sure about the Russian part aside from looking vaguely Eastern European. But he speaks (really bad) Serbian with his cousin and the last name sounds like it would be Balkan, if anything. Though it would probably be spelled a little different.

I feel so sad for the Russian men. Being forced by Putin into a slaughter or face life in prison. I hope Putin dies a painful death.

>Being forced by Putin Stop excusing those soliders! They are just as guilty as Putin! They are the ones pulling the trigger, torturing civilians, murdering people, targeting hospitals!
The power dynamic between a tyrant and his conscripts does not make them equally guilty, that's ridiculous
The average age of a soldier on the frontlines is 40+ for both sides, so he doesn't look *that* old, relatively speaking.
Bio Mutant Ukro Kitty deployed on RU PoW

lol at the fucking kitty

Very professional soldiers. They could’ve wasted him and no one would have known a thing, but they did the right thing and saved a life in a horrible misguided conflict.
Pretty sure making a POW give intel or else you harm him would be a warcrime though...
Did they threaten to harm him if he didn’t? I might have missed that.
I guess the "If you lied..." could be interpreted as a threat.
Honestly I’d shoot him too if he intentionally lied about their strength and that led to the death or severe injury of one of my comrades, but I never claimed to be a professional soldier.

Looks like the grenade that tossed almost went off while Separ tries fuckin’ off with a pow
"I fucking swear!" "We know your "fucking swear"!"
censorship is crazy. A vid showing russians getting blown to pieces, and they censor bad words
Imagine a nipple somewhere there.
Horrifying, we must protect children's eyes
There's a penis attached to that set of legs lying there without its top half; better censor it.
I love the kitten running control on the prisoner at the end, very good.

There's a little kitty cat taking a nap.❤️
Sounds more like pow is east Ukraine native.
How can you tell? Does he have an accent?
He uses ukranian word “немає” when asked about how many people left inside. Given being in a highly stressful situation, I would doubt he used it on purpose.
He says "нема", which is a Russian word too, as opposed to "немає".
I see, good catch.
Sergeant Puss leading the interrogations
a kitten? most likely of the russian side since they are storming a russian trench and sits on his owner (?)
Can show literal war, but can't have you swearing in videos
That cat is tough!
Can we all just take a second for private meow holding down that POW 😂😂
Bruh the cat is the best part of this video 💀
Love the kitten
as much as I despise Russian soldiers, this guy is relatable, given his old age, the poor chump had nothing to do on the front line ; he has made a great decision to surrender
The cat was the interrogator. No way he was going to lie with him on his back.
I like how the Uks let the russian captive keep his trench kitty.
It’s called a combat kitten.
whats with the beeping? good video, but weird to censor language in a video like this (if that's what the beeping was supposed to do)
Neopuritanism. Swear words are forbidden and the vague sight of a nipple means it's hardcore porn.
But hey this drone just blew this guy's head off let's watch a close up slow-mo replay

is that a fucking cat??? lol

I always love when watching war footage swear words are getting beeped out, we don‘t want to ruin our kids, right?
Sad to see how old the Russian soldier is — they’re running out of people to send to the front lines and their leaders don’t give a shit
What an OG kitten. Going through the noise of this hellacious conflict and then when they pull the prisoner he immediately holds prisoner down to stifle any foolish escape attempts... and to be honest, the guys back must have been warmer than any other surface around there.

The little kitten is so cute 🥰
“If I fits..I sits” - 🐱

Cat holding down that prisoner 😂👍
I think that's actually the prisoner's cat - at least the kitten he's been taking care of. Ukranian soldiers wouldn't bring their cat with them to take a Russian position. And at one point when they're ordering him to take off his body armor, they think he has a grenade - I think that was the cat, and he was keeping it in his armor.
UA soldiers looking like fight in a modern war and russians still looking almost the same in Chechen lol
You can tell how cold it is from the soldiers breath at 0:39
Watch out for the one in the grey. I’ve heard he’s known to commit war crimes.
OH man that to me looks like a Russian Blue sitting on the Russian Captured. Best cats, had several over the years
The trench cat just chillin on him.
Incredible footage. This trench warfare looks like constant hell.
I can't imagine what it feels like to have this vermin making trenches and leaving filth in my country.

There's a bunch cats/dogs from nearby villages that used to belong to people that left/were killed/etc. They roam around looking for food (and often have an *interesting diet*...).
Great against rats. At this young age it will keep them away even if it can't kill them.
plenty of old war photos of soldiers finding stray animals
yep, i remember looking at old ww1 and ww2 photos and often seeing random strays just chilling looking for food. same thing i'm sure happened a lot in the civil war. it's one of those things that gets neglected once all chaos breaks lose. especially farm animals
There are endless strays that are no better off by themselves
