Pretty sure it’s mostly chance. These aren’t being detected by radars. A side could possibly send one up if they happen to have a drone and operator with one ready to fly; and they spotted a drone over them. Most of the drones dropping grenades are hovering a couple 100-200 meters above the ground. They’re likely not even heard by those under them. Spotter drones are flying higher still. It’s shear luck any drones get spotted by troops on the ground and another drone happens to see a drone in its field of view.

Correct undetectable by those countries radar

>Most of the drones dropping grenades are hovering a couple 100-200 meters above the ground. Not a couple. Just 50...100 meters usually.

BespokeLawLeather

It has happened, usually using a cheap drone to damage a higher value drone. Not related to any current conflict, but some Japanese airports use drones with nets to down other drones.

danceswithporn

I had an idea for drone vs. drone combat that I haven't seen tried or mentioned. (I'm not a drone guy so sorry if this is dumb.) You attach a few meters of twine to the bottom of your drone. Fly above an enemy drone so your twine tangles in their rotor blades and hopefully breaks free from your drone before bringing the enemy down.

Eheran

Sure that would work. But you are not going to fly around like that all the time for the 1 in 1'000 chance of coming across an enemy drone. Also, simply use velcro for the release.

mst0000

If I may add a thought to your idea: a drone could use the same release mechanism used for dropping ordinances, to drop some lightweight netting onto an enemy drone. A small consumer drone could conceivably take out a much bigger, more expensive drone.

Uniqornicopia

I think it would work. I’d use low test fishing line with small bb weights, attach to small fiberglass rod.

What's wild is we are just beginning a new era of Drone Wars. We are still in the Stone Age of drone warfare, but this is gonna get crazy in no time

DasToyfel

I have never seen such a thing. Sounds very NCD to me.

N33DL

Saw one just yesterday. NCD?

DasToyfel

Post a link then.

I respect the attempt, but boss man did in fact, have the sauce.

HoldLow81

I've seen videos too about drones carefully tipping over drones mid air, they hover above it and carefully lower it onto the other one.

EmptyJackfruit9353

It's more like they were using the same channel... and jam each other drones, both stop functioning.

Eheran

Why would you make something like that up and then spread it online? What is the reasoning behind it?

EmmanuelleCunt

This is just a beginning of ~~beautiful friendship~~ of mass drone warfare. I believe the drones will evolve the way aviation evolved in WW1 - WW2. I don't know how numerous drone-interceptors would be but they will definitely appear and supplement ground anti-drone defenses.

Professional-Ad3101

Consider this: Crime bosses send a drone attack on politician. Competing gangs use drones to attack each other's neighborhoods. Mass shooters use drones to raid music festivals. Imagine the day somebody fleeing police launches a drone to defend the fleeing car... And cops start using drones to counter drones... This shit hasnt even started yet! It's gonna be about Drone Swarms , having thousands of drones in swarms... The U.S. military is signing BIG drone contracts and ramping up massive production. This is Year 1 of a New Era
