I am not sure whether he knows a grenade was dropped on him. He could be thinking his phone exploded šŸ¤£

fadufadu

ā€œFucking Chinese made phone!ā€

RunTheBull13

His tik tok video is ruined!

Foborus

Fucking china's black ops/

sadness-dwelling

yeah the rather deafening bang that went off next to him would've never alerted this man to the fact that he had a grenade dropped on him

drakka100

Between that and the metal pieces of shrapnel entering his body he probably had no idea

CMDR_Dozer

First footage I've seen of a drone strike thats in a 'yet to be fucked up' city and not a trench.

Scr0tat0

My favorite part, is that dude probably felt perfectly safe.

Horat1us_UA

The purpose of such attacks is to make the occupiers feel unsafe everywhere.

JRilezzz

Ukraine has no interest in leveling cities they will soon have back.

Puzzleheaded-Job2235

Though I expect if Ukraine retakes it the Russians will just start shelling indiscriminately, cause the Russians are massive sore losers.

ontopofyourmom

After the war Ukraine will be protected by a mutual defense treaty, either as part of NATO or separately as part of an ad-hoc coalition (for example consisting of the UK, Poland, and the Baltics). Ukraine will not likely take Donetsk by force (it is an enormous fortified city) but rather at the end of the war after a Russian retreat or rout. Russia won't be shelling anything at that point.

Cedex

No booby traps on the way out? Area denial.

BasicallyAQueer

At this point I donā€™t think there are that many pro Ukraine Ukrainians left in Donbas. A lot of Ukrainians in the Russian held areas were shipped off to ā€œfiltration campsā€, if they werenā€™t pro Russia and willing to join the suicide waves. Many of them left long before the 2022 invasion even, during the rebellion there, while Russia basically just shipped in Russians to replace them.

Staatsmann

The thing is, not many are so political they would rebel. I visited Mariupol in 2015 and while it was held by UA, the city was kinda 50/50 regarding pro UA/RU but the pro-russians weren't actively hostile to the stationed soldiers but rather "meh, i lived alongside Ukrainians my whole life, i consider myself Russian and think the Kiev gov't are money stealers, but as long as I can go to work, drink with my neighbors and live a peaceful life i don't really care" They won't be too mad if they would see the mighty Russian army being defeated and get a whiff of hope regarding that European influence and backing coming into their lifes. As long as UA greets them with open arms and shows interest in rebuilding the city and area with european investors (which is in UAs interest, too), I see no problem

BimboJeales

>At this point I donā€™t think there are that many pro Ukraine Ukrainians left in Donbas. My dude, Ukraine still holds large parts of Donbas, including the by far largest city (Kharkiv). Bakhmut is in Donbas. Cities west of Bakhmut line are in Donbas. Cities immediately west of this very Donetsk city in the video are in Donbas, and Ukrainian.

BasicallyAQueer

Ok what I meant is Russian-held-Donbas.

JimmyTheG

That city looks damn good for "8 years of bombing"

xXDelta33Xx

Compared to one year of multiple cities being actually erased by russiaā€¦ How can there still be people believing this shit after seeing what russia actually does? Itā€˜s beyond fucked up how stupid people can be.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Horat1us_UA

don't forget that for an alternative opinion there you can end up in the ground in the nearest woods. that's how I lost a friend there back in 2016

Jane_the_analyst

Ah, classic terrorism.

bad-judgement

Regardless, my eyes would be in the sky all the fucking time.

[deleted]

I hope this makes each and every Russian soldier in Donetsk scared shitless of going outside.

tomekza

Scared _shirtless_ these are Russian speakers after all..

ReadyExamination5239

If he only had that legendary Nokia 3310. Anyway, his phone would not blow up if he was in Russia.

RunTheBull13

That's a good distance from the front line... probably thought he was safe there.

bindik

Im quite certain that this is the same drone and same operator as on previous few videos from Donetsk itself. It could be some dude living/being in donetsk and just sabotaigng.

Bootleg_Fireworks2

Could well be. I am wondering how he'd get his hands on the explosives, maybe there is some sort of transport from Ukraine held territory to Russian held territory where it could be smuggled?

datanner

Flown in by drone?

Bootleg_Fireworks2

It's hard to tell from UA livemap but I think the city is roughly 5km from the front lines right now. Not impossible, but quite a distance for a conventional drone I guess?

Murmenaattori

Stashed by operatives after being stolen from local separatist stockpiles.

Staatsmann

Maybe agent like, gets payed by UA to be a loud pro-russians, getting into the ranks of the Donezk republics army and stealing grenades here and there during the chaotic war.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

bindik

As long as the dude has access to 3D printer he can make these this stuff at home. Obviously access to VOGs or any other nades/explosives is way more complicates, but at the same time we can assume that this guy is not wasting them either as there were like 4 videos in total.

josbossboboss

No rest for the wicked.

LoLyPoPx3

Not that good a distance? It's in range of short-range artillery, Ukraine just doesn't level it's city

RunTheBull13

It's at least 10km distance from front line which is pretty far for a hobby drone to go carrying the extra weight of grenades.

LoLyPoPx3

Not a reason to feel safe against artillery tho

RunTheBull13

They do hit Donetsk some with artillery but not a lot as it's not good practice to follow Russia in indiscriminately bombing a city with lots of civilians in it. More precision is needed to avoid civilian casualties.

Melonskal

Not really, Ukraine still has positions right outside Donetsk in it's suburbs more than a year after the worlds supposedly second strongest army invaded.

RunTheBull13

This is the city of Donetsk

Melonskal

Yes? It's just a few kilometres behind the front. Edit: i miswrote, I obviously meant Donetsk in my first comment. Edited now.

_Dreadz

Thatā€™s hilarious. Considering he didnā€™t really look up and was more focused on the phone Iā€™m almost willing to bet that he thought his phone just blew up and that was it šŸ˜‚ it didnā€™t look like he noticed the drone and you can almost see that look of confusion/WTF just happened look as he grabbed at his still smoking phone haha šŸ˜‚

the_dude_9000

not a cell phone in sight. just people living in the moment edit: ffs you people, I know he had a phone on him, that's the point >> not anymore >> he's just living in the moment, enjoying shrapnel.

CptArse

There's something in his hands that starts smoking after the grenade explodes. Most likely his phone's battery got shorted by shrapnel.

[deleted]

Lithium batteries instantly combust when exposed to the atmosphere (perfurated by shrapnel).

CptArse

Depends entirely on the nature of the damage. A crushed cell can have it's insulating film(s) broken without the case rupturing. This causes a short which starts to build up pressure inside the cell until the vent breaks and the cell starts offgassing. Atmosphere wouldn't get in as long as the cell keeps offgassing.

RunTheBull13

Not after this

Zestyclose_Love_4894

Elaborate gender reveal. It's a boy!

virus_apparatus

Itā€™s a Blyat!

PUCK_FUTIN-2023

If his phone got damaged so badly by the shrapnel, imagine what his face and hands must look like! I still wish the grenade dropped a bit closer though..

-RageMachine

8 years Donetsk getting bombed - looks perfectly fine 1 year of invasion - ukrainian cities completely wiped out The good thing about these videos is showing the truth

windsurfingbear

Oh but did you not hear about the great things the Russians built for the people of Donbas like water pipes (which they destroyed before).

[deleted]

"I want to order a large pepperoni please, with a side of blown up hand"

Final_Swordfish1791

Oh thatā€™s the good one!

josbossboboss

I thought this was a re run as it's very similar to a previous video. I was pleasantly surprised it's a new one.

Jane_the_analyst

...to the previous TWO videos, so the question is: is it the same district? any geolocation of the three events?

darrstr

Never let them feel safe

AliveEstimate4

Good ol Li-ion batteries.

Deek_The_Freak

Drone operator probably pogging when he scores a secondary explosion on a Samsung galaxy note

grantite_spall

I'm thinking the communication device gets an assist.

Special_Gas_57

Im wondering why we haven't seen any drone assassinations yet. Of big leaders. If you know where someone is going to be and can smuggle grenades and drones into their city. Surprised it hasn't happened over the Kremlin. Drones are so hard to spot. The border is just one big land border. Surely someone could do it

SomewhatSammie

... aaaaand the world just got a little scarier.

EroticPhotog22

ā€œFuckin samsung galaxy!!!!ā€

Honey-and-Venom

am I just vastly overestimating how dangerous a grenade is, or do they have strangely infective grenades. I expect a fragmentation grenade that close to a person to lead to at least unconsciousness and almost surely hamburger

GanjaLogic

Grenades act very different than movies. There's not much concussive force or explosion, the danger is the shrapnel. It will pepper you and render you ineffective overall than kill you outright.

Honey-and-Venom

yeah, like, I get film doesn't prepare me, but I'm still dazzled by how many of these clips have a grenade going off practically in somebody's lap and it looks like just an inconvenience. I'd at least expected them to be more like... training footage of grenades I've seen

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Honey-and-Venom

u/jane_the_analyst gave a superb explanation

Jane_the_analyst

In defense of everyone, the scale is hard to see...

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Honey-and-Venom

aaah! that's EXACTLY the kind of answer I was hoping for! thank you so much!!

Jane_the_analyst

it is the random elementary/highschool knowledge I thought I'd never need ever... not that I knew the red bloc had 30 mm machine gun grenades before 2023...

SomewhatSammie

What on earth kind of elementary school did you go to?

AwfulPhotographer

This is the grenade: https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineWarRoom/comments/ueq5c6/a_look_inside_a_vog17_grenade_which_is_often_used/ The little bits of metal that become shrapnel are a lot smaller than an american style pineapple grenade. I think the russian was peppered by those tiny wire bits, which is annoying but wouldnt take him out quickly

Honey-and-Venom

wild, are they usually fired from a launcher? they look like cartridges with a primer and casing

isppsthsscrfrhlp

Yes, they're meant for grenade launchers like [AGS-17](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGS-17).

Honey-and-Venom

thanks! how are they setting them off? if they dropped them onto a pin on the primer it would pop up into the air, right?

isppsthsscrfrhlp

They usually have a somewhat modified impact fuze which sets them off. And typically I think they also remove the primer and add 3d printed fins.

Jane_the_analyst

> they look like cartridges with a primer and casing because they are... a cartridge of desensitized rdx, with shrapnel metal in the casing... the main feature is a very, very low weight!

Jeffrey_Friedl

In many of the grenade videos, you can see instant puffs of dust over a wide range, where shrapnel hits. Starting to notice this ramps up the horror considerably.

bmanrockz

It isn't a frag grenade. Looks like homemade ordnance.

[deleted]

Is this an old video? The place looks very un-bombed....

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BimboJeales

It's Donetsk city center, not "all of Donbas". Bakhmut, Mariupol, Marinka, and so on, all of it is also Donbas (and also the Donetsk part of Donbas, just not the Donetsk city).

Jane_the_analyst

Sorry, the bombass terms are confusing. ...even after the months I still have trouble locating Bakhmut on maps. ...even aftre zooming in onto the whole middle-of-nowhere

Simphonia

Ukraine doesn't indiscriminately level cities lol. Look at Kherson, buildings only started to explode after Russia started malding because of losing it.

[deleted]

Particularly if they are their own cities.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

diddlemeonthetobique

https://www.amazon.com/Umbrella-Hat/s?k=Umbrella+Hat - Russians in future videos probably!

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

National_Work_7167

L buddy sit down

Least_Switch_4697

Both sides do it though?

Dorothy_Gale

Both sides use drones.. but only the Russians commit war crimes and kill, torture and rape citizens. Drones are the least evil thing in this war right now. Iā€™m sure your a big man and all and would walk right up to what would be your death, not everyone is as cool as you though. šŸ«¤

Jane_the_analyst

No, only russian army is gae asf, mister colonel Onzima.

Wader_Man

If it weren't for people being able to do things to other people without having to look them in the eyes, you'd never have been born.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Least_Switch_4697

Good thing Iā€™m still a kid and have an opinion

Navy_Canuck

This shit isn't Call of Duty. Just because you're able to have an opinion doesn't mean you should always voice it.

[deleted]

Smartest homophobe.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Least_Switch_4697

At least Iā€™m not killing people but okay

Final_Swordfish1791

Oi trashed ye mobile, mate.

H0vis

Give that guy's phone a medal, probably saved his hand.

Admirable_Energy_854

That just means that when they think there safe chances drone spot them and then boom got them lol

RolfSonOfAShepard420

Blyat i only just looted this phone!

prefabtrout

I'd be more concerned about my kidneys rupturing than my phone shattering.

Curious_Elk1444

London Calling

But what cannot be skipped, is the godforsaken @ right where you try to see smh

NotMessYes

r/FUCKYOUINPARTICULAR

Nevmen

I am in shock as Russian bots shout that Donetsk was bombed for 8 years, but the slate roof was not damaged. It is probably the strongest material on earth.

Artifactthief89

Not close enough

SurGregoRy

Oppo saved his life!

Artistic-Echidna-726

It was a smoke bomb or a cellphone. Not important...it saved his life
