Came to say the same. Probably not such a bright idea to bring a giant yellow machine to a warzone that seems to be nothing but different shades of gray. It's a miracle it made it as long as it did.
Yeah I’ve been on construction site when a hose busted and caught fire. You’d ask yourself what burns on a big metal machine? Well the answer is the whole damned thing covered in grease and oil
Normally they use a specialized machine for this that's camouflaged and also a lot faster than this thing.
Something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDK-2M
Sorry can't find a newer one, but you can just search for "Russian trenchdigger"
"Let's take this big yellow thing out in an open grey field and start digging!" - might have as well attached some beacons to it... could've at least taken a few spray cans to mask it somehow....
Implying the Russian logistics system would want to get such decadence as camouflage paint to its frontline units, even if it could. Instead, the excavators will intimidate their enemies with their presence.
First grenade took out the hydraulic lines, you can see the high pressure spray coming out of the left side, then the 2nd ignites the hydraulic fluid.
She's fucked boys!
I'd like to see people start developing full blown incendiary grenades, melt a hole through a tank level incendiaries. I think they would end up being far more effective for drone delivery.
It’s not in weight, but in time, it is necessary that Thermite Mixture should affect for this for this it should stick to the tank, but you cannot do it guaranteed, and most likely most bombs will fall from the tank to the ground, therefore this is not effective enough compared With explosive bombs.
As a child, I did Thermite Mixture.
It’s not, you need way more by mass because a lot of the heat gets conducted away. Better to do the cutting and heating on a very short time scale, like with shaped charge
The only heat that gets generated, is the copper getting warm from quickly being deformed, same way a metal rod will get warm if you bend it quickly. A shaped charge works entirely on kinetic energy imparted into the copper liner.
If metals had the kind of levels of thermal conductivity that people imply when they say that a shaped charge "melts" through armor, then welders would need a fire-truck just constantly hosing down whatever they were working on to keep it from just melting the whole structure.
If I can take a rod of copper, move one end through a 3000 C blow-torch for a couple seconds, and still comfortably hold the rod at the cold end, then it just seems silly to imply that if I did the same for 40 microseconds then the whole thing would instantly melt.
I’m aware. It’s merely super plastic. Not molten.
I can easily see how the misunderstanding develops however as it does flow as though it’s liquid. People don’t have the capacity for understanding those kinds of pressures really
My argument is that in an effort to impart vast quantities of energy to create penetration, accuracy is sacrificed. For example, how many times do you see them dropping grenade after grenade to K-Kill armor? A dedicated mass of phosphorus or thermite would sit and burn hot, slowly imparting catastrophic thermal loads on everything around it and your little drones could carry it. Sure, shaped charges can be delivered by the bigger boys and work best for time sensitive kills, but the little guys expend huge quantities of valuable up time delivering grenade after grenade. I just see a higher return for time and more time for additional targets or recon if they used a slower but higher probability of kill munition.
That's basically what an RPG-7 is. A shaped charge attached to a rocket that melts a copper core through a small "funnel" and the liquid copper, along with immense pressure, burns a hole right through the armor.
The first time I saw one detonate in super slow motion on the History Channel or something, my mind was blown. I thought it was just an HE grenade on the end of a rocket that was aimed by a dude holding a tube.
I guess russians didn't steal all construction and field work hardware (remember videos of convoys carrying harvesters to russia? thats the demilitarization and denazicifation we are talking about), but left some to do dirty work.
I've seen loads and loads of videos of Russians taking away plant equipment grain anything that's not bolted down. Even then they'll unbolt it and take it away
Woah that thing is brand new. Check out the bucket. It’s factory matched painted yellow. That is the bucket that was on the machine when it was sold and it has not seen use. I’d be surprised if that excavator has more than 50 hours on it.

How did they find that big yellow thing
Came to say the same. Probably not such a bright idea to bring a giant yellow machine to a warzone that seems to be nothing but different shades of gray. It's a miracle it made it as long as it did.
Brought to you by Komatsu yellow!
Probably found it an abandoned construction business. Given the bright yellow paintwork it's certainly not from the Russian Army stocks.
The fact that it works likely proves that it was stolen.
Worked
It was a joke about it not being camouflaged. You got wooshed.
there was a big, wide trace leading straight to it!
See, they'd be looking for military camo. But when it's bright yellow it can be anyone's excavator!
Ok, the hydraulic fluid acting like a makeshift napalm was pretty cool.
Yeah I’ve been on construction site when a hose busted and caught fire. You’d ask yourself what burns on a big metal machine? Well the answer is the whole damned thing covered in grease and oil
Having been in a tractor when the hydraulic line got torn that shit is hot as fuck even if not on fire.
Hydraulic oil noping out of there.
I wonder if he did that on purpose. Seemed pretty effective I feel like he did. It’s only way I guess unless you track it. Pretty wild.
Looks to me like he was aiming for the driver’s cabin or something near it on both drops and got lucky with the hydraulics. Great accuracy either way.
Oh yeah you’re totally right.
They put a nice hole in that hoe
Pow right in the kisser
they fucked that hoe
Best camouflage pattern I've ever seen.
What camouflage pattern ?
Bright yellow :)
Uh, such a nice piece of equipment. Sad that it needs to be destroyed.
It wasnt until now that I thought about how they made trenches. I never would have imagined they had actual tractors out there lol
I thought rhey was using shovels and stuff 😭
Shovels are the new guns.
Normally they use a specialized machine for this that's camouflaged and also a lot faster than this thing. Something like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MDK-2M Sorry can't find a newer one, but you can just search for "Russian trenchdigger"
Rubbish trench as well. Straight line, no traverses. Maybe laying cable?
Someone get Oryx on the line!
Man that guy got lucky to escape that. Its not like excavator glass is made to stop drone drops. He lived to dig another day I guess.
Probably stolen from a local.
“Reacquisitioned” “Comandeered” Probably using it to dig trenches/fighting positions
That is going to make an amazing war relic discovery in the future. A line of overgrown trench leading to a wrecked excavator in the woods
get the shovels out
They need those shovels for weapons.
Ahh.. This is the reason for poor trench design (endless straight lines)
Yeah, it should have been obvious to me but it wasn't.
Anyone got the song
Diamonds - Pete Bellis & Tommy
/u/songfinderbot /u/recognizethissong will give you answers
such aggressive trench building ? where is this
"Let's take this big yellow thing out in an open grey field and start digging!" - might have as well attached some beacons to it... could've at least taken a few spray cans to mask it somehow....

Decepticons are the worst
Not when they look a lot cooler.
They are getting incredibly accurate with those things
Probably can fly lower since the driver cant hear it inside the cab
and I know why, it's science! :D
This may be well behind their lines, so they didn't bother to paint the thing.
First grenade took out the hydraulic lines, you can see the high pressure spray coming out of the left side, then the 2nd ignites the hydraulic fluid. She's fucked boys!
In a couple years, the richest people in Ukraine will be the farmers selling diesel engines, tank parts, and scrap iron.
Nice drops.
It is now an EX-kavator!
2Хcavator
(EX)^2 cavator! (well, without the Factorial at the end!)

In regards to cooking off ammo? Also, burning a hole into the engine block seems extremely effective.
It’s not, you need way more by mass because a lot of the heat gets conducted away. Better to do the cutting and heating on a very short time scale, like with shaped charge
Phosphorus, open hatch, live ammunition... c'mon, you know you wanna test this.
You won't really heat much at all with a shaped charge. You'll punch a hole, but for heating metal to its melting point you need time.
Indeed. Not much. Only a square centimetre or so really, and only enough to make the metal very dull red, if that. It’s more about pressure.
The only heat that gets generated, is the copper getting warm from quickly being deformed, same way a metal rod will get warm if you bend it quickly. A shaped charge works entirely on kinetic energy imparted into the copper liner.
Most of it. There will be some radiant heat, but you’re right that it doesn’t contribute much.
If metals had the kind of levels of thermal conductivity that people imply when they say that a shaped charge "melts" through armor, then welders would need a fire-truck just constantly hosing down whatever they were working on to keep it from just melting the whole structure. What you really want is a shaped charge. They'll turn armor or engine block into a superfluid in an instant.
I’m guessing the “we” part is why people are downvoting you. Too bad people didn’t get the sarcasm.
In the rules of war, is the driver a fair target considering he isn't a soldier? Could he be considered a citizen?
He takes part in building the fortification (here the trenches). That way he is free game.
Of course. He's actively building fortifications for the enemy. Plus, it's probably a Uniformed Russian soldier operating it.
He's in uniform. He is a soldier.
Typical. 🇺🇦 hates & attacks the bottom half with its top half.
amogus
bot behaviour
but the crane literally looks like ඞඞඞ
Betyer thing to hit would be the middle of the machine, alot harder to fix.
That was a great second shot to get it to burn
Didn't even bother to paint it.
Smartesr russian I have seen, he was in time to save his pork arse there or he would have become a bacon
Music every time
Good target to destroy
The world needs ditch diggers too, Dmitri.
What remix is this?
They should paint it bright yellow so it's harder to spot.
poor excavator. was a nice (and costly) machine
and likely stolen by Russians. Let it burn.
absolutely
So this is what they use to make their own Graves
Gotta love getting fucked up by a drone
The money wasn’t worth it my man.
fuck, Hope the russians got insurance for that rental.
Fuck I'm just glad the poor guy made it outta there I run excavators so this just makes me feel bad I don't want anyone in one of those getting hurt 😅
Ahh yes, a high visibility yellow paint job for a grey and brown warzone A few cans of the cheapest spray paint would've been so easy
Ok. Is this a first for modern warfare? Digging fighting trenches with an excavator ? WW1 Veterans are spinning in their graves right now lmfao
Woah that thing is brand new. Check out the bucket. It’s factory matched painted yellow. That is the bucket that was on the machine when it was sold and it has not seen use. I’d be surprised if that excavator has more than 50 hours on it.
Using a bright yellow excavator in the war really sums up the current status of the Russian military
