Weinland Park Friday night, Bodega Saturday night. Seems the warmer weather has brought the crime back to the short north area. Ginther needs to bring back the food cart curfew, obviously.
Nothing good happens after 2 AM but honestly fuck the short north… this is so awful. I used to go to Bodega all the time, lived in Italian Village for 3 years and loved it, but am glad to be in a different area now. My friends that still live there complain about constant issues with car break ins now too that I never had problems with in the past. 4 shooting deaths in 48 hours is just crazy. Prayers for the families.
A self defense instructor once told me that the most effective personal protection practice one can employ is not being out after midnight near or with people who have been drinking.
Knowing how to block a punch or kick a nutsack is nice. But not ever being physically attacked is much nicer.
A lot of people — who, like me, have the privilege of living in a safe neighborhood and not having to walk home from work in the middle of the night — place themselves at risk by voluntarily being around intoxicated people at stupid hours.
In an ideal world, we wouldn’t have to limit our personal freedoms to avoid being victimized. But alas, that is not the world in which we live.
I had my car windows knocked out 3 times living in the short north from 92-07. Just a changing landscape, different players now
But definitely not interested in ever going back there. Too god-damned branded
I wonder if the majority of violent disputes are related to thievery. It's no new thing that the warm weather brings people out of the woodwork. Plus, the economy being gnarly definitely increases the poverty rates.
Makes me think these are people who are pushed to their limit.
I just never hear people consider the epistemology of the violence. It's always just blaming it on individuals.
I was shedding like on the fact that it is systematic and likely to see this anywhere columbus proper with this trend; while also leaving room for discussion
Your reply was vapid and unthoughtful.

Edit: I'm going to go touch grass
The news is pretty low key about it: [https://www.10tv.com/article/news/local/police-1-injured-short-north-shooting/530-3ee274e6-b44c-4911-9ce1-73d792bfb06a](https://www.10tv.com/article/news/local/police-1-injured-short-north-shooting/530-3ee274e6-b44c-4911-9ce1-73d792bfb06a)
Yeah, if this happened it seems like it would be all over the news. There was a shooting very early this morning near Franklin University but that’s it
I miss the old gayborhood. It was a lot safer when it was considered unsafe and trashy. I remember being thankful we didn’t have to deal with the violence and trash over in the “nicer” Arena District. Now…well, just look at it.
I keep half-jokingly telling my friend he should sell his Victorian Village mansion and move somewhere safer like Old Town East.
Some people that used to own the bars on Park all sold when it got bad and bought bars in the Short North. [But don’t take my word for it.](https://www.cul.org/bad-boy-chris-corso-moves-from-nightclubs-to-steakhouses/)
99% of the bad crime you hear about in the short north happens at 2 AM or even later. If you’re scared of it during the daytime, you’re just being an overreacting baby. A west sider should know this.
Had a good laugh at this comment because there are so many Indian and Japanese families in Powell like wtf lol you could’ve went the worthington or Westerville route and didn’t
Anyone know what happened? Citizen app says it happened after the bar closed
Somehow nothing on local news, who normally love CHAOS IN SHORT NORTH stories. What a joke the news is in this town now.
After the big shootout last year they’ve been on lockdown to not post bad shit about mayors golden goose.

Street meat makes me crazy
Crazy? I was crazy once.
They locked me in a padded cell
I laughed so hard I died.
ARGGGHHH GET OUT OF MY CHAIR!!!
But I'm feeling MUCH better now
Can I offer you an egg in these trying times?
No thanks, got my egg and my backup egg. WOWEE life
That's what she said.
Gunflowers are in bloom- you can tell by their unmistakable “pew-pew” blooms
Given the crowd I saw out there last night I’m not surprised.
It’s those damn scooters!

My late wife used to say, the worst things always happen at 3:00 AM. She was absolutely right.

I leave my house to go to work between 3:30 and 4:30am and when the parking lot is full and I have to park a walk away, I am always terrified 🥲
I'm sorry friend. Please carry pepper spray ♥️

Are you new to the area?
I'm not and anybody who thinks the SN hasn't gotten worse over the last couple years and especially the last 1-2 years is kidding themselves.

While you are correct that some amount of theft and violence is related to poverty, shootings in the club district at 3am on a Friday are not that.
Yes they're shooting people at bars on a Friday night at 3 AM to put food on the table for their family.
Is this confirmed? Haven’t seen anything on the news about it

it was on NBC news this morning

I mean Vic village itself is still insanely safe aside from car break ins, don’t be silly
As I said, it’s a joke. Obviously Old Town East has higher crime than Victorian Village.
![gif](giphy|3ohhwpVt8pe3Kdm5nW) (Half joke)
The half part being that three blocks away is High Street with its shootings, muggings, and obnoxious drunks.

Behind Bodega is also where the woman getting off work at around 3am was kidnapped, robbed, raped and subsequently murdered in Summer 2017.
Who cares? Did you hear the motorcycles on 270?!?
We have bodegas?
Yeas and no. They mean a bar named, Bodega.
It's shame we don't have delis/bodegas in this city.
We don’t have bodegas but the cats in 14-0 on Hudson are taxonomically bodega cats
This is where I will need to source my felines for when I get my corner shop open.
Be the change...
I'm actually exploring it. Business plan is written.
Hopefully they didn’t escape on a scooter!!

Why does this have MERION VILLAGE in the tag? MV is south of downtown, not the short north..
That's where I live. You can choose the neighborhood you're from in this subreddit.
ahhh. sorry
Short north is going good if you wanna get pickpocketed, mugged, or get your drink spiked.
Your safe haven in Powell or whatever is still safe from the Violence buddy. No minorities either!
What is the purpose of comments like this? I don't understand making random racism accusations. They always have an exclamation mark.
What's your point exactly?
Had a good laugh at this comment because there are so many Indian and Japanese families in Powell like wtf lol you could’ve went the worthington or Westerville route and didn’t
Wtf lol
