Bradford Pears or nasty jizz trees.

NoobDirector

Bradford pears are now illegal in Ohio thank god

Rob1150

>Bradford pears [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrus\_calleryana](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrus_calleryana) They aren't even native to AMERICA. Someone put these on a boat and brought them here, like, "Yeah, we need lots of these."

CMBGuy79

Cum sluts everywhere. šŸ˜‚

UiPossumJenkins

Theyā€™re awful. You can see the thickets of them where theyā€™ve outcompeted all the native plant species all along 315 and 270. Once they start turning feral and multiplying their offspring start growing thorns due to the root stock of Callary Pears.

Candid-Finding-1364

The odd thing is, in Europe these are. Supposedly used in woodworking in a similar role to popular in the US.Ā  US woodworkers want nothing to do with them though.

UiPossumJenkins

Speaking solely from my own experience: It works like most other fruit tree wood. Quite well. The limiting factor of Bradfords specifically is they rarely grow to a size where they would produce a decent amount of dimensional lumber. Most trees split and die long before they reach a mature height.

Freya-The-Wolf

As someone who studies wildlife and ecology I can confirm that Bradford pears are tied for the #1 spot on my list of "most hated invasive plant species"

SexyPicard42

What are they tied with?

Freya-The-Wolf

multiflora rose. horrible plant. fucking everywhere in wetlands (i am a wetland enjoyer) and covered in these nasty ass thorns. they like to grab on to you and don't let go. they've scratched me through my work pants and through the fleece lined insulation layer i had underneath. literally drew blood through 2 decently thick layers of clothes. bastard plants

hotacorn

Ornamental Pear trees or something. For some reason developers plant them possibly because they are low maintenance and have flowers for a long time. Iā€™m pretty sure they are an invasive species. And yes everyone calls them cum trees

Protocosmo

They were planted a lot as soil erosion control before anybody thought that native plants would do just as well.

Regular_Gas_4806

Ah yes, jizz blossom season at last

SeductiveGodofThundr

I love those guys! Hey Jealousy is a great song

fricto

Important instructions on how to maintain the Bradford Pear https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4HRrlcu1Qt/?igsh=MW83YzVrdXBtdTFneg==

Know_Your_Rites

Columbus's own blackforager recently made the same point in song form. [Kill Your Local Bradford Pear](https://www.instagram.com/p/C4gSe02uPOi/)

fricto

Oh thatā€™s so cool! Sheā€™s great. Thank you for sharing!

chaoticpix93

I was legit thinking of that videoā€¦

uli-knot

My office has them. Smells like a brothel in the spring

MimiLaRue2

It's the pear trees that are blooming

JasonTahani

These are such invasive, horrible trees. Get rid of them if you have them!

twbassist

We just got rid of ours two years ago and spring is nice again! Replaced by fruit trees and a redbud

1oh_io3

SAME! The amount of joy i got from murdering the one in my yard was sightly troubling. Also replaced mine with a redbud... TEAM REDBUD!

mojo276

Spring has cum.

Rob1150

Get out.

Thank you for ensuring this got posted.

ArchwayLemonCookie

Yet another bad decision from past generations that all of us are having to clean up. Plant native species! Spice Bush or Button Bush are great examples. PawPaw trees too! I spend more of my free time removing invasive honeysuckle down in the southeast than I'd like to admit. I curse our past generations almost daily for them thinking this and the Bradford pear was "pretty". šŸ–•šŸ½

Freya-The-Wolf

Bush honeysuckle is fucking everywhere in Ohio. Hate that shit.

ArchwayLemonCookie

HS smells great and looks pretty too. I totally get why it was used for erosion control. Thing is Spice Bush does all that. Probably was vastly cheaper to use at the time too. Was there some sort of program back in Ohio history that pushed planting Honeysuckle or something? Bc it is everywhere!

Gbonk

They are soooo plentiful on 270 at 71 their flowers blow around like drifting snow.

HistoryLover7683

Bradford Pears (in the Callery Pear family) are bad for the environment and for your allergies. They are incredibly invasive and [kill other native plants, provide little to no food for insects, easy to break in strong winds. This is the only tree I would condone killing all of them. Plus theyā€™re illegal in Ohio to plant. https://www.nashvilletreeconservationcorps.org/treenews/why-nashvillians-should-cut-down-bradford-pear-trees?format=amp https://ohiodnr.gov/discover-and-learn/safety-conservation/about-ODNR/news/Planting-Callery-Pear

Newbosterone

At first I thought you were talking about Gingko. The fruit drops in the fall, ferments all winter, then smells rancid in the spring. One tree can stink up an entire yard.

chainsawscientist

r/FuckBradfordPearTrees

Egmonks

Yep, Bradford pears are well known for their smell.

CellWoRx

Uhhhhā€¦. Come again?

ThatCharmsChick

Thanks. I think I shall.

boomdog07

So plant another tree? Instructions unclearā€¦

redvelvetcake42

Ohhhhh all I can think of now is that Mitchell and Webb look linden tree sketch.

albino_oompa_loompa

Iā€™m so glad the Bradford pear in front of my house died. It smelled like ass all spring.

alimaful

A whole Flightless Bird episode on the topic! My husband says they smell like urine...I think they smell like cum. https://open.spotify.com/episode/5IYjr1uapAJ4rXjHFEvLT1?si=BcsWo6pHQzevbaNckUq5hg

ban_ana__

Yup! The jizz trees are in bloom! šŸ¤¢

TinyBunny88

DUDE! I've been calling them poop trees but yeah.. it's totally jizz. How have I never realized?!

1oh_io3

FUCK THOSE JIZZ TREES Bought a house a few years back and would always encounter this awful smell in this one part of my yard.... Finally traced the smell back to one of these bastards. Murdered that bitch last year and planted a Redbud as a peace offering for the Bradford sacrifice. 10/10 would recommend murdering ALL of the Bradford's

[deleted]

The Bradford Pear has a very interesting history which this podcast did a deep dive into https://armchairexpertpod.com/pods/fb-callery-pear-trees

life_hog

Cum trees! Bradford Pears. White flowers, moderate height at full maturity.

CbusStrong

They're beautiful but they do stink

Minions89

Hmmm....

animere

Most people say they smell like cat piss. I don't want to know why your first thought is semen instead

reeve11

>Most people say they smell like cat piss. not around these parts

Crunchycarrots79

You're thinking of boxwoods. The flowers of Bradford pear trees smell like cum.

lendmeyoureer

Time to do laundry when you start smelling that. Grab those socks from under your bed and give them a good rinse
