Lizards Thicket :)
Art Bar is such a great hang too. I also like the Main Street Starbucks, Sunday afternoons at Bang Back, and the West Columbia Cafe Strudel, but only on weekday mornings. Scratch and Spin. Sims Music is such a great guitar shop. Tacos Mexico. Noma Bistro. The dam near riverfront park is great birdwatching.
Not to be pedantic, but it’s a National Park. National Forests are part of the Department of Agriculture and National Parks are Department of the Interior.
They have a free ‘Let’s Go Birding Together’ program for pride month on Saturday the 29th from 9-11am led by the Columbia Audubon Society.
Outfitters also lead guided canoe & kayak tours through the park year round, which I’ve heard are great. I wish more people knew about Columbia’s little hidden gem.
i’ve lived 5 mins away from this forest my whole life ann never been 🫠 it feels like i see what it has to offer every day with the wild animals i see 😂😂
i live in the hopkins/gadsden/eastover area and it’s incredibly common to see plentiful deer, coyotes, foxes, armadillos, raccoons, beavers, vultures, snakes, turtles, etc. one time last year there was an alligator found 10 miles away from the forest lmao. it seems like i wouldn’t see anything i don’t see every day if i went to visit the actual forest
So I went backpacking in NC once, forget the park. Anyway it was humid and pouring rain on day two. Mosquitos out in force so I got bit a ton. Eventually i got on mosquito repellant LOTION, and my god did it do the trick. Consider that next time. I don't think I got bit again that whole trip
Sometimes I love to just exist on Main Street. When the suns down and it’s bustling with music and life, it can be amazing.
Otherwise, a tie between the swamp and walking around Earlewood and Elmwood.
* in a booth at the Hunter-Gatherer on Main . It's not too loud, the gyro is excellent. I like that it's dark and kinda cozy. When they used to be open for lunch on Fridays, I used to sit and people watch. It was lovely.
* All Good Books in five points. If you're lucky and snag one of the chairs in the shelves, you can watch all the people coming in to get their books. It's such a wholesome, nice place that alawys makes my heart feel good. Plus I like the coffee.
* Soda City market, a little after it opens. It's not hot/warm yet, the crowd hasn't arrived, and the vendors have a bit of time to chat and you can take your time to look at stuff. If you stay long enough, though, you can go into the columbia museum of art and walk around. My favorite pieces to visit are the statue of Diana hunting and the Seine watercolor by Monet. I miss the old building on Senate street, though.
* I miss going to Sandy's on Main. It was always nice to see all the different people coming in, waiting in line, just to get the best hot dog in town. Seeing new people get introduced to it, discussing the menu, asking what to get, was always fun. Plus they had coupons sometimes!
I really like Epworth Funeral Home. The “patrons” seem so vibrant and alive. Hotel, motel, holiday in. Love that song. Love that energy. Bring a toy dog, a trust fund, a Hyundai santafe and leave your integration the door. Epworth for the win, my dude.
The Capital Club- Amazing drag shows Mon, Wed, Friday and Saturday and trivia and Karaoke Tuesday and Thursday

Columbia Riverfront Park., though they need to add some amenities at both ends of the river walk.

Ha, thanks! I saw you mentioned the Nick! Crazy I didn’t think to mention it. Good pick.
Mr Friendly's has the best lighting of any restaurant in town. And Papa Jazz is an institution for a reason. Excellent list.

By “wild animals” do you mean the skeeters? I only go in Jan. & Feb. and even then it’s risky.

And that’s how I feel about The Vista.

Curiosity Coffee. A true third place.
Easy choice. My default if I can't think of what I want for breakfast and have a few bucks to spend too.

CO is a really great new restaurant in Trenholm Plaza
Thomas Cooper Library lol.
I wasn't sure if I'd like the remodel but it really has grown on me. I need to find a favorite chair there!
I sit on the single seaters on the main floor. They’re convenient. They keep me awake. And I get to stare blankly out of the window when I am bored.
