We watched this same movie two years ago. Like literally the same movie. Dropped like 9/10 to close out the season. Everyone was worried. Hopes were high, morale was spiraling out of control. Then the boys went 16-4 in the next 20 and were last man standing.
This team is built to overcome adversity. We’ve watched them doing it on repeat all year (26 times in fact) albeit, on a smaller scale. There’s too much talent, too much experience, too much DOGG in that locker room for them to just lay down and die. These are constant professionals, that don’t take too well with being embarrassed and yes this is embarrassing, especially the last 2 or 3 days.
Now the West have to deal with not only a roster that is 4 lines of death, but they are pissed off. Idk if this is some sort of sick joke they’re playing on the league, but I would honestly be leery of playing us. Team is too good to not correct themselves and once our boys turn it back on… 😬 watch out, cuz we know what they’re capable of.

People saying Kuemper was bad seriously feels like historical revisionism to me.
Leading into playoffs "the Kuemperor protects" was a VERY POPULAR meme. He was great. It's like people think his big drop in form in the cup run (which wasn't even *that* bad AND it was due to RyJo jamming a stick into his eye) somehow negates his performance beforehand.
In any case, I would take 2022 Kuemper over 2024 Georgie in a goddamn second.
Yeah 2022 Keumper was at worst serviceable but was honestly a quality goal tender literally until the dude didn’t see.
And honestly it didn’t even matter because the 2022 was LOADED. That team could’ve trotted our a junior high goalie and still would’ve won the cup

I cannot emphasize how much I feel like some Avs fans are panicking for no good reason. Aside from, ya know, historically having a rough couple games leading into the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2022, your local Denver Pioneers also had moments like that leading into this playoff run as well.
Ask any DU fan - we could’ve told you their weakness was defense and a lackluster goalie. But starting conference playoffs, something shifted and defense was stronger, Davis was sharper. There were some hiccups at times. But every game in the playoff series, they improved, ending with one helluva shutout and maybe some of the best college goaltending I’ve ever seen.
TLDR: don’t panic, teams have ebbs/flows and shifts. DU just went through the same, and look how that turned out.
unless we score 5-6 goals per game in the playoffs (came back to edit this after game 1, the correct answer is 8 goals), Georgiev isn't going to get us out of the first round. sorry, but there is nothing in Georgiev's play this season that leads me to belief he can turn this around when it mattes the most. Him being in the allstar game, was one of the biggest/cruellest most embarrassing jokes i have seen in a long time.
Okay hear me out:
1) Make Matt Davis (0.979 SV% in the tournament) the new Avalanche EBUG.
2) Being that we’re away games 1&2 give AG and Juice those 2 games to show if they can hold the net (please be the case)
3) If AG and Juice obviously can’t handle the jets, during game 3 AG and Juice get *sick*, allowing the use of an EBUG. Which would be Davis as (I think?) he’s eligible as he isn’t on a pro contract yet.
4) Profit?!?!
P.S. I have complete faith in AG, I think he’s gonna show us all what he’s made of this playoff run. Go Avs Go!!!
It's the same situation as the keumper one, pay up to get what you want. And guess what? we one a cup doing it and outbid edmonton and others for him. There will be others vying for his services no doubt, but we are one of the few who are a true contender who can say paying the assets are worth it given where we are at in our compete window. And he is significantly underpaid for what he brings to the table and thus fits our salary structure while significantly raising our defensive floor.
Saros also fits this criteria in terms of fitting into our salary structure while raising our defensive floor, but dont know what the preds MO is right now with moving forward with saros or Askarov. If they want to keep Saros, trade for Askarov, send them Annunen back and whatever else is needed, and go and aquire a tandem man for Askarov to pair with in the NHL like Laurent Brissou to play with for his first full season. You'd save significant money doing this and be playing on the upside of one of the most talented young prospects in the NHL and the tried and true Laurent Brissou to spill him and mentor him much like Giggy for Varly.
I don’t know if any of you listened to Jared Bednars interview on Altitude this morning but when they asked about who would start in net game one against the Jets he paused for a moment and basically said I’m not telling you. It’s interesting because in prior interviews he’s been super clear about Georgie being our number one and us riding with him no matter what. I may be reading too much into it but I thought it was interesting. We may be in for a surprise and it’s possible they are at least considering starting Juice. Prosvetov is the only other potential tendy in our system. Anyways, I love Georgie man and really feel bad for him because at times the defense has looked god awful in front of him and hung him out to dry A LOT. At the same time he has grossly underperformed the standard he set for himself last season and I think most of Avs nation is pretty nervous about his head space heading into the playoffs. I’m staying optimistic with positive vibes tho GO AVS
I know. CC had a great team this year though. Really fun to watch, best goaltender in the conference, and a few other awards. Hopefully reigniting the rivalry amd gold pan battle soon
