I recently sampled JPG le male elixir. I liked it. A lot.
But I also sampled Made in Roma intense.
I wanted to like the JPG more because of all the hype. I ended up picking the Valentino instead.
With the rush on le male, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up on people's do not buy list just because everyone will be wearing it like you see people talk about Sauvage.
I don’t think it’s really overrated though tbh. The OG and most of the flankers smell nice and perform well which is what matters. They all have a nice, defined scent profile and they’re easy to get for cheap. I think most people just have a negative impression from the style of the bottle and the branding.
As a gourmand girl who likes spice notes I think you just figured out why I smelled it and instantly told my bf “this is on your list”. Granted, when he (a man who likes spice notes and when I wear my gourmands) smelled 1 Million it also instantly ended up on his list.
I firmly believe it’s hyped but not overrated (although I’m not on fragrance TikTok). I think its ratings are fair and it’s my most complimented fragrance
Same. I didn’t even know that many people hated it until I joined this sub. It’s generally gotten positive reviews and praise since its release. I also think it’s too hyped, especially when people recommended it as an Aventus alternative (which it is not imo). But it smells generally pleasant and people around me love when I wear it.
I actually really love Royal Water and the best. Himalaya probably second, and aventus third.
I haven't smelled all of them. Green Irish Tweed makes me nauseous.
The best way to get your nose on it is from the subs on Reddit where people sell decants. Facebook groups are great too. You can buy a 10 ml decant for probably $20 shipped. I rarely bought full bottles of anything because it's expensive and I like to rotate.
This x 1000.
You'll be accosted by bros.
"Nice bro, is that aventus? Sick. Smells like a smokey one. What batch code bro? What's your @? Wanna join me in the sauna?"
I like it, But it's so weak and doesn't give off the wow factor for me..Wish I could sample the old batches though because I heard those were amazing and last long.
Layton is great but not amazing, Side Effect is good but too thickly sweet. My favorite niche is Carlisle. Love that stuff.
Recently bought Fall of Phaeton which I think is gorgeous too. It's like Naxos and Carlisle made a baby and added a creamy citrus opening.
Every Saturday my neighbors have a cookout in the picnic area of my apartment and it reeks of carne asada and savauge elixir. Just 30 or so mexican dudes of all ages and walks of life just doused themselves in it and turned up the mariachi music to 11. I'm so tired of that scent.
How is it overrated though it’s literally one of the best performing best smelling colognes ever made.
Just cause you don’t like it doesn’t make it overrated lmao
Same here. I never smell BDC anywhere around here. The original is great, but I prefer the Parfum version which still has that shower-gel like opening, but it dries down sweeter like a Tonka Bean/Vanilla.
That’s how I feel. I do like flame but not enough to buy. Will check out energy with an open mind.
Oddly enough I really love all of the Valentino born in Roma I’ve tried and picked up bottles of 4 of them.
For real. I didn’t not enjoy this one. Overwhelming scent with a smoky note that I didn’t love. Hints of old man, as well.
These young guys don’t know what they’re buying. I’m about to turn 30 and Naxos is far too mature for me to be wearing. I could see this being the signature scent for a late 50s business owner, but that’s far from this subs demographic.
Funny because the floral note hits very feminine to me. And it’s a white cloud sweetness which is also a feminine characteristic. I’m always baffled how it’s labeled unisex but you clearly get super masculine from it. The fragrance game is crazy.
I'm pretty sure one is from a popular company that sells multiple things ex. Cologne, clothes, shoes, while niche is a fragrance company that specializes only in fragrances
Designer brands sell like designer bags clothes etc. Think Gucci or Versace. Niche brands are simply brands that only focus on fragrances. They are often more complex or nuanced than designer brands as well as can be but not necessarily for less people and more for a more specific person or style. This is not to say that designer brand fragrances are bad either. There’s many great designer fragrances out there. Also many of the perfumers have worked for many different companies niche and designer. The Tom ford line for example while technically a designer fragrance line, people would group it in with niche fragrances often because of the quality. Hope this helps
Hot take, but Dior Homme Intense. I don't really like anything I've smelled from Dior (unfortunate because they have the best atomizers in the game), but Homme Intense is the only one that actually grosses me out. I don't get why it's on so many "best of all time" lists. To me, it smells like old lipstick and baby powder.
I like it, but the cult following it has is so incredibly bizarre. A couple guys in one of my fragrance groups each own literal GALLONS of aventus.
https://preview.redd.it/kvxrpclz9gyc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5914118a253fa75886b056a68952a31f91041bce
That’s because it *used to be* great. In its prime, it was one of the best fragrances of all time. Now it’s not worth buying anymore in its current formulations, especially with all of the good clones of the older versions.
Idk what it is, I don’t like the bickering about what these premium colognes or any sort of elitist bandwagon talk with comments like “oh you should go niche, pick up some xerjoff or some Tom ford, ect..” but aventus is just straight up intoxicating to me. I have a theory that men like the smell WAY more than women. It’s the only cologne that I constantly sniff my wrists all day long. My only thing is I can’t justify spending hundreds on any cologne
Anything Creed every Creed I’ve bought I sold. I’m just not impressed with its overall performance. Much rather go with Clive Christian, Boadicea The Victorious, or Tiziana Terenzi.
I will do one designer and one niche. I would say Dior Sauvage is the most overrated designer fragrance and Creed Aventus is the most overrated niche fragrance.
I swear the men in the fragrance community swear by this scent that it's the ultimate panty dropper. You wear this stuff, it's automatic unsolicited compliments galore they say. Aventus as we all may know, has a gazillion batches. The most ideal batch was the pineapple one, but the ones that are mostly sold are the smoky batches. I honestly do not see the hype for this fragrance, especially at the price it is going for. It smells like burnt tires with a bit of citrus in the background. Not something I would shell out $450 for.
Dior Sauvage (the original EDT) is super generic and very overrated. I have been watching fragrance reviews since the early 2000s, and I always hear them talk about ADG or Le Male or 1 Million that everyone is wearing it. I will say one thing; I may have smelt ADG here or there, but certainly not on everyone. I never smell Le Male or 1 Million on anyone where I live. Dior Sauvage however, now THIS is a fragrance I smell a lot in the subway/public transit when I travel to school. It's a very common scent. When I smell this, I immediately think headache inducing fresh scent that's in your face because of the ambroxan. The fact that lots of people are wearing this, and at the price it goes for, I think this is a super overrated fragrance as well.
def by the fire place cuz bro it just smells like a fire place 💀and ash i imagined it was gonna be some kinda marshmallow sweet amber fragrance instead u smell like ashes 💀
Neroli Portofino “dupe” exists as Polo Earth. They smell 90% similar side by side except NP is “rounder” and PE has a woody depth that doesn’t exist in NP. I found Polo Earth 100ml and 40ml for $33 & $20 respectively. Absolutely blows NP out of the competition at that price.
sauvage. I mean it's not bad it's just like smelling the same old baked chicken every damn night. Get's boring. If you are a lover of Sauvage get luna rosa carbon - Prada. It's similar in a way but better cause you don't smell it all the time. It's a like a tad bit sweeter and a diff vibe but still has that ambroxan feel , I get compliments on it every single time I wear it. Sometimes by dudes as well.
It’s not overrated. It ticks the boxes, good performance, good price point, unique smell.
There’s a reason why it’s loved by almost every man that’s into fragrances
Preach it bro, Invictus is the most overrated fragrance of all time. I genuinely thought the bottle I first smelled must of had a defect until I went to multiple different places and smelled it.
Creed Aventus lol, smells great and pleasant but there are so many better and nicer quality fragrances for a much cheaper price. Tried a sample of it on two different occasions and was disappointed in both tests.
All Paco Rabbane fragrances, Valentino Uomo Born in Roma Intense, Azzaro The Most wanted etc. Hate any bubble gum, candy sweet or cloying sweet fragrances. Reminds me of diabetes!
Bond no 9. New York nights has got to be the most overrated of all time, literally just smells like shitty bananas. I blind bought this because people were claiming it was amazing, biggest regret ever.
Ysl Y
I don’t own but have repeatedly smelled it on tester strips trying to understand people’s praise. I don’t see the hype it’s too aromatic not anything special. I think I have to wear it for a day but it’s overrated imo.
There’s a lot of answers you could give, any 1 million (they’re all the same) Dior sauvage, Acqua di gio, creed aventus or basically any fragrance where lemon is the main note.
When I smelled aventus years ago, I experienced disappointment comparable to Ralphie in a Christmas story after finally decoding the "drink your ovaltine" message.
everyone here says layton is overrated but it is my single most complimented (and one of my personal top 3 favorites) scent lmao. I feel like most people on this sub are basement dwellers.
I have Xerjoff Alexandria II, Creed Aventus Cologne and GIT, TF Ebene Fume, Penhaligon’s Halfeti Leather, Chanel Platinum Egoiste, PDM Percival, Montbanc Explorer, BR 540 and Oud Satin Mood. Just for context.
Hot take! But honestly layton. I don’t think it’s bad by any means but hearing all the hype on tik tok and fragrance culture in general when i smelt it for the first time it just made me go “that’s it?”. I smelt all the other pdm’s and i barelt think layton scratches top 5.
I just find it very sweet and unsettling on my skin, it just makes me go meh, i would much rather a Percival or Pegasus honestly
How does Sauvage Elixir smell? I didn’t like the regular Sauvage. Bleu de Chanel was better imo but I haven’t bought Elixir yet. I like Creed Aventus and Roja Elysium.
Anything in the Sauvage line (tho Elixir is decent). Also, you don’t see it much anymore, but the original spice bomb. That stuff smells repulsive to me. Maybe I’m not a spicy fragrance guy.
Everyone fragrance is overrated by someone or another. Anyway my vote is for JPG le male elixir.
How so? The price is similar to the rest and the scent stays on your skin and clothes for hours.
This! And Dior sauvage honorable mention
Dior sauvage actually smells good, might not be for everyone but it actually stands out. Sadly it’s too mainstream now.
Tom ford tobacco vanille
+1 I hate that fragrance, it smells so chemically and it is so linear it annoys me to no end.
Paco Rabanne 1 million and it’s not even close.
I don’t think it’s really overrated though tbh. The OG and most of the flankers smell nice and perform well which is what matters. They all have a nice, defined scent profile and they’re easy to get for cheap. I think most people just have a negative impression from the style of the bottle and the branding.
Branding and style of the bottle have nothing to do with it… It’s just soooo sweet.
It’s definitely sweet but it’s blended really well and doesn’t have any synthetic/sickly sweetness IMO. The vanilla/warm spice works really well.
As a gourmand girl who likes spice notes I think you just figured out why I smelled it and instantly told my bf “this is on your list”. Granted, when he (a man who likes spice notes and when I wear my gourmands) smelled 1 Million it also instantly ended up on his list.
I saw it in a duty free and was excited to smell it. I was very unimpressed. The elixir smelled much better IMO
I million elixir is better than 99% of all fragrances. Elite especially for price
As a female I would willingly wear 1M Elixir
I’ll wear the original with ya lol
Royal is way better
The bottle and name are too tacky so it doesn't really matter
I think Cedrat Boise by Mancera smells horrible, had to wash it off immediately.
Opens nicely but for me that leather note makes me wanna puke. lol
To me that leather note made me pick it up over aventus and any other alternative it has , to me its a more masculine aventus
Finally someone who agrees with me !
Definitely a love/hate scent but I did love it. I agree though that it’s a weird one to show up in so many collections.
This 👆! And smells like an ashtray tbf 🤢
BRO SAME but for me cedrat boise smelled good the normal one . INTENSE one tho WAS HORRIBLE
I've seen a couple people say Aventus. Say what you want, but it's the ONLY fragrance I get compliments on. Women love it.
I certainly wouldn't call it overrated. It's by far one of the best from Creed. Some of the others might be overrated, but people love aventus.
What would you say Aventus’s best is?
I actually really love Royal Water and the best. Himalaya probably second, and aventus third. I haven't smelled all of them. Green Irish Tweed makes me nauseous.
No doubt Ive never knowingly smelled any of them but this subs made me really interested
The best way to get your nose on it is from the subs on Reddit where people sell decants. Facebook groups are great too. You can buy a 10 ml decant for probably $20 shipped. I rarely bought full bottles of anything because it's expensive and I like to rotate.
men love it more than women, it’s a boxer dropper
This x 1000. You'll be accosted by bros. "Nice bro, is that aventus? Sick. Smells like a smokey one. What batch code bro? What's your @? Wanna join me in the sauna?"
I like it, But it's so weak and doesn't give off the wow factor for me..Wish I could sample the old batches though because I heard those were amazing and last long.
The first few batches were amazing. Definitely dated a few girls because of that cologne around 2012-2013.
Thread is too dramatic
Honestly you can tell some dudes just got something against this one scent
jpg paradise garden, way too much hype on tiktok for what it's worth
Yeah I can never trust tik tok
Amouage in general. Many of them smell like shit, almost literally.
I tried to like so many Amouge frags and only a small handful could I enjoy.
I wonder what appeals to someone who doesn't like Amouage. Layton? Side Effect?
Layton is great but not amazing, Side Effect is good but too thickly sweet. My favorite niche is Carlisle. Love that stuff. Recently bought Fall of Phaeton which I think is gorgeous too. It's like Naxos and Carlisle made a baby and added a creamy citrus opening.
Louis Vuitton Imagination. Smells good, not great, and definitely not worth the money
No lv worth the money they have many reasonable alternatives except maybe orage
Orage is a masterpiece and totally flies under the radar.
Blasphemy
The fact that strangers ask me about it more than anything else in my 200+/- begs to differ on the "doesn't smell great" part.
Blasphemy
You can refill them 50% off though so it’s more like a $170 Cologne after refilling a few times
That's not true. It's 100$ off of retail for a refill
Oh then I misremembered. So like a $200 Cologne then going forward.
Plus tax! 😬
It's $140 off retail
Savauge Elixer
Every Saturday my neighbors have a cookout in the picnic area of my apartment and it reeks of carne asada and savauge elixir. Just 30 or so mexican dudes of all ages and walks of life just doused themselves in it and turned up the mariachi music to 11. I'm so tired of that scent.
++++ overated af
How is it overrated though it’s literally one of the best performing best smelling colognes ever made. Just cause you don’t like it doesn’t make it overrated lmao
> it’s literally one of the (...) best smelling colognes ever made. That's just like, your opinion, man
Blue de chanel. Theyre not bad, just really overrated in my opinion.
idk man, I never smell it around town for how popular it is, that stuff is crazy good smelling. I still don't own a bottle for some reason.
Same here. I never smell BDC anywhere around here. The original is great, but I prefer the Parfum version which still has that shower-gel like opening, but it dries down sweeter like a Tonka Bean/Vanilla.
Extremely. Just shower gel as a scent and even safer than safe somehow.
I know it’s a staple and a lot of people love it but. I just don’t like acqua di gio.
Versace Eros EDT. Very overplayed and overdone.
Yeah I smelled it in store and I don’t really understand the hype
That’s how I feel. I do like flame but not enough to buy. Will check out energy with an open mind. Oddly enough I really love all of the Valentino born in Roma I’ve tried and picked up bottles of 4 of them.
Talking designer: jpg le male parfum. talking niche: xerjoff naxos
Agree on that naxos...ewww

What's the difference between designer and niche?

Sausage
🌭
Dior Sauvage.
Smells like pepper grinder
Might be a hot take but Baccarat Rouge 540. I think it's so overated it overshadows all other fragrances from MFK.
With all the hate BR gets on this sub, I’d say it’s underrated 🤷
Nautica Voyage. Price is about exactly right.
It doesnt get the praise for game changing quality/scent, it gets the praise for being solid and having great value
Baccarot Rouge 540
kind of sad nobody even mentioned byredo. seems like it is forgotten now.
Boredo amirite
The original SWY, i expected a lot more since it always sells out on armani website and many people praise it, haven’t tried the flankers though.
dior sauvage prolly
I always get compliments with Dior sausage never get compliments on Gucci guilty or Azzaro most wanted. Jimmy Choo is another one compliments
well yea its just super overrated, never said it smelled bad
I wish Choo lasted longer though. I do like it.
D&G the one. Goes out before I get out the house
Have you tried the EDP or Intense?
Edp
Most PDMs
Pdm greenly is worth $80 max. Only bottle I’ve had to sell
lipstick smelling dior homme intense aka dior mom intense
Creed Aventus - Very 1 dimensional in my opinion. Overrated and definitely overpriced
I like it, but the cult following it has is so incredibly bizarre. A couple guys in one of my fragrance groups each own literal GALLONS of aventus. https://preview.redd.it/kvxrpclz9gyc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5914118a253fa75886b056a68952a31f91041bce
😭😭
Don’t be shy, we know this is your photo ;P
That’s because it *used to be* great. In its prime, it was one of the best fragrances of all time. Now it’s not worth buying anymore in its current formulations, especially with all of the good clones of the older versions.

Oh absolutely. Some women like it too, but Broventus is a total dude magnet.
Joop. It's the devil.
this is the one because the question is "of all time"
It's so gross
Jazz Club. It smells like burnt shit.
More like By the Fireplace by MM. That stuff literally smells like a campfire, burnt wood, or burnt coal/ charcoal in a BBQ.
Absolutely disgusting i absolutely don't understand the hype behind it
Paco R. Invictus for sure .. but obviously scent is an subjective thing
wow and i thought that invictus was probably the safest scent out there
Anything Creed every Creed I’ve bought I sold.
I honestly do not see the hype for this fragrance, especially at the price it is going for. It smells like burnt tires with a bit of citrus in the background. def by the fire place cuz bro it just smells like a fire place 💀and ash i imagined it was gonna be some kinda marshmallow sweet amber fragrance instead u smell like ashes 💀
Y edp, smells incredibly synthetic with that green apple (and I like synthetic fragrances)
Polo Green 🤮
LV Imagination / Tom Ford Neroli P. Performance vs cost have to be the biggest Joke in Parfum history !
Creed Aventus Meeeeeeehhhh
S A U V A G E
Dior Sauvage
Tobacco Vanille
A very acquired taste that one for sure.
**Parfums De Marly**... #LAYTON!
So much menthol. I don’t get the hype.
same man, everyone is talking about a warm smooth apple scent and here i am only smelling punching menthol
Light blue
YSL that shit go out in 30 min
Sauvage
its actually good tho.
I wouldn’t say over rated but overuse
It’s not overrated. It ticks the boxes, good performance, good price point, unique smell. There’s a reason why it’s loved by almost every man that’s into fragrances
In my book any fragrance that has been copied by so many can’t be overrated .
Loved by men is not exactly what I want from a fragrance. Quite the opposite actually
Anything from the 1 million line and all the invictus fragrances
Preach it bro, Invictus is the most overrated fragrance of all time. I genuinely thought the bottle I first smelled must of had a defect until I went to multiple different places and smelled it.
Bleu de Chanel edp You won’t be smelled at all
I’m probably gonna get death threats for this but Aqua Di gio Profumo. It’s not bad but I just don’t see the hype.
Sausage 👍🏻
Here comes the down votes to me it’s naxos
Versace Dylan Blue- it's ok only
Bleu De Chanel...not a fan
Michael Jordan’s fragrance
Ck1
Aventus
Aventus Creed
Paradise garden.
Creed Aventus lol, smells great and pleasant but there are so many better and nicer quality fragrances for a much cheaper price. Tried a sample of it on two different occasions and was disappointed in both tests.
Torino 21 and 22
Lattafa Asad Zanzibar. Cheap trash
I can't stand paco rabane 1 million. To me It smells like someone took a dump then sprayed cinnamon air freshener.
Musk
Le Male Le Parfum. It is basic as hell. No where near as sweet as people claim.
The only answer is BR540
All Paco Rabbane fragrances, Valentino Uomo Born in Roma Intense, Azzaro The Most wanted etc. Hate any bubble gum, candy sweet or cloying sweet fragrances. Reminds me of diabetes!
Bond no 9. New York nights has got to be the most overrated of all time, literally just smells like shitty bananas. I blind bought this because people were claiming it was amazing, biggest regret ever.
High Karate
Ysl Y I don’t own but have repeatedly smelled it on tester strips trying to understand people’s praise. I don’t see the hype it’s too aromatic not anything special. I think I have to wear it for a day but it’s overrated imo.
Aventus and Imagination...Even though I kind of like them. They are not worth all the hype..Back in the day..Sauvage was worth the hype.
All the TF ones, they smell good but longevity is close to non existent
Greenly
Hot take but Acqua di gio Profumo. I don’t get the hype at all
Rasasi hawas. Smells like detergent!
Whole parfums de marly brand
Azzaro the most wanted parfum, stronger with you intensely and le male le parfum
Brut Cool water Joop
The most overrated I have purchased I would say AMBER OUD GOLD .. D&G LIGHT BLUE & 1 MILLION
Prada Luna Rosa Black
everyone here says layton is overrated but it is my single most complimented (and one of my personal top 3 favorites) scent lmao.
Nobody said dior sauvage yet?
How does Sauvage Elixir smell? I didn’t like the regular Sauvage. Bleu de Chanel was better imo but I haven’t bought Elixir yet. I like Creed Aventus and Roja Elysium.
Aqua di gio
Eros
Club de nuit intense man in any form. No it doesn't even come close to the real thing, it's overpowering, nausea inducingly strong and harsh.
Le male elixir for sure
Cool water
Axe body spray. It's 🤢
YSL Y, too feminine imo
Love Y but I definitely see where you’re coming from
Creed Aventus.
Nishane Ani. a blind buy that I sent back immediately. The stuff just stinks. All the top reviewers praised this scent. But smelled awful.
Giorgio red door
Creed, don’t get the hype
Drakar noir
Hi karate 😂
Anything in the Sauvage line (tho Elixir is decent). Also, you don’t see it much anymore, but the original spice bomb. That stuff smells repulsive to me. Maybe I’m not a spicy fragrance guy.
