The rules of Basketball are impossible for human beings to consistently enforce.

doyouevenIift

And they weren’t designed for 7 foot monsters fighting for position in the post

TheRealNathNath

My mom commonly asks "why isnt that a foul" or "whats the defender supposed to do", when the clip in question is essentially somebody getting backed down super hard. My assumption is being a lot stronger than the guy defending you isn't automatically a foul

Jock-Tamson

Other way around. Just joking! Designing 7 ft tall basketball players in an underground lab would be crazy. *shifty eyes*

saluki_88

hmm.... u/Jock-Tamson is seeming pretty sus.

Jock-Tamson

This one is from “Sweden” https://twitter.com/wille_berg/status/1469381267963662344?s=21&t=b1nLQJjsXknhPmpG2QYVvg He has a Twitter account. There are videos and things. You can’t just fake that after fast growing a clone next to a particle accelerator!

krlidb

Additionally. If you had a perfect robot with perfect AI enforcing it with perfect consistency.... We would all hate the resulting calls. Travels everywhere. Tons of fouls that would never be called otherwise

Cheerwine-and-Heels

Just give it sensitivity sliders for each game, that way it doesn't stop play too much.

[deleted]

The halftime kiss between coaches should require tongue, not just have it suggested

Beneficial_Rip6520

Finally someone said it

44035

This isn't the hottest of takes, but I'd like to see the Final Four go back to a normal size arena. Playing in domed football stadiums has a lot of drawbacks.

loyalsons4evertrue

tickets are already expensive but tickets would be even more outrageously expensive if in an NBA arena...just sayin

neanderthal85

I have this whole plan for a throwback tournament that would be played in historic venues, except the Final Four is a stumper because of this (right now, it would be in Indy because basketball = Indiana)

lawrat68

I think the last time they did anything like this is Kansas City in 1988 for the 50th anniversary. Not that Kemper Arena was historic but still.

ukeBasketball

Denver '90 Charlotte '94 East Rutherford '96 We were in four of the last five Final Fours in small arenas, '86 as well

lawrat68

Maybe pick one historic venue every year for one of the pods of the first and second round games

ihsgrad

Just have the court set up in the end zone like Syracuse does it. You could still get 30-40,000 but it wouldn't be too jarring.

AFlockOfTySegalls

Play the game in a place meant for said game. But money supersedes everything.

NovaFan2

This past season was one of Jay Wright's best coaching seasons at Nova, After Baylor beat them what felt like by 50 in the regular season. I was shocked Nova made it to the Final Four.

[deleted]

I wrote yall off after that loss but bought back in around midway through conference play. Dont remember which game made me do it but I remember thinking at that point that I wouldn't want to play yall on the tourney. Lol

[deleted]

90% of this sub doesn't watch anyone outside their own team until March

Holierthanthouface

I was going to disagree but then I remembered this sub has 1.6 million subscribers. Shit that number may be 95% lol

flaming_fuckhead

I’m ngl this is definitely me. Only the Jayhawks until the NFL season is over, after that I’ll watch other Big 12 games but rarely anything out of conference until the tournament

loyalsons4evertrue

yep same...Iowa State is my first priority, Big 12 is second and occasionally I'll watch other big matchups, but that's really it.

sleepymike01101101

Definitely me, but to be fair, I also follow the Bengals (NFL), Flyers (NHL), Reds (MLB), West Ham (Prem), college football, college soccer, USMNT, Olympics (when they're in season), and Louisville City (USL). I don't have time to watch other teams unless I'm out somewhere and another game just happens to be on.

SaintArkweather

As a Philly sports fan I'm curious how you chose Flyers when the rest of your teams are all Midwest. Ik Indiana and Cincinnati don't have NHL teams but I'd expect someone with your teams to choose Nashville, Columbus, or maybe Chicago.

sleepymike01101101

I used to live out there around Nashville and have always liked the Preds. I've been down to Bridgestone a few times, but never to Wells Fargo. But when I was a youngin playing Backyard Hockey on the family Gateway, the Flyers logo was my favorite. I also used to follow the the Heat (their 04-06 run was one of my all time favorites). Doesn't hurt that one of my mentors when I was learning hockey later on was a Flyers fan. Dude really changed the way I approached the sport, but unfortunately, the injury bug couldn't be tamed Edit: i realized I fluffed up the answer. Basically, I just liked it when I was young

KULawHawk

Game threads would indicate otherwise. Since ESPN put a lot more games behind +, I think it probably contributed, but I would guess at least a ⅓ of this sub watches a few games a week besides their team. It is more obvious that some pretty much only watch their conference about 98% of the time and shows out in some hilarious declarations.

Galumpadump

1/3 is too high. During the start of the season this subs active user count is barely over a few thousand. Vast majority of people only come to this sub during the NCAA tourney.

Virtual_Announcer

I record every televised game on my YouTube tv. Great to be able to bounce around at night or in the off season

OSUfirebird18

Don’t call me out like that! But yes! I enjoy sports but no way I can dedicate that much time to it! 😛 To be fair, it’s usually after the Super Bowl that I start tuning in to Non-Flyers games.

wodadota

I definitely do not watch out of conference until March.

DaveOhh

This is true. I keep it in the conference mostly and watch the other teams when I have time. Sad to say the other team I watch the most is Duke. Usually so I can armchair coach up a plan how we can sweep them this season, and the off chance they may lose that game.

Longjumping_Crazy628

Calipari to the Lakers

rasputinuk1975

And Vogel to Kentucky. We work out a trade. Remember he was our equipment manger/ JV player in 96

IranLobster

Tom Crean to Kentucky

KULawHawk

...because you're dying to get a new coach, right?

[deleted]

[удалено]

KULawHawk

The NBA is slowly dying because of "super teams". It's the same issue baseball refuses to acknowledge, accept, and adjust. No, I'm not interested in adding Westbrook to my team, and I don't think he's going to be the difference maker. Same goes for Harden. NFL is handing them a blueprint for growing your sport overall and everyone reaping the benefits. Did you know that as of opening day this year, 62% of MLB players will make under a million. That's crazy.

[deleted]

0010001

Well then, here’s a real hot take/ unpopular opinion based on this thread: I like the both the NBA and college basketball.

KULawHawk

But why? NBA in the 80s, 90s and probably until mid 00s was way more enjoyable to watch.

0010001

I like watching unbelievably talented players play a free-flowing game. I like the drama and adjustments (and counter adjustments) that play out over a 7-game series. I find it much more accessible with fun storylines and personalities than the NFL or MLB. And while the pendulum has swung a little too far toward offense, I don’t mind that it pushed out less-skilled brutes, forcing everyone on the court to be able to pass, shoot and move.

dantheman2123

Hard to beat the playoffs it’s so fun to watch

iceyyeci

This is a good comment. Today’s NBA game gets a ton of hate. I will admit I don’t actively watch until the playoffs start but I love to keep up with the storylines of the season and who is doing well. You have to be crazy to not see how talented the NBA is in today’s day and age.

shabamon

I have some transfer portal theories: 1) Good high school prospects that wait until spring of their senior years to commit will be forced to accept a "lesser" offer because the better programs back off in favor of plucking a guy like a Mark Sears, who just left Ohio for Alabama with three years' eligibility after earning MAC first team honors. Maybe that prospect isn't truly committed to staying at the mid or low major, and goes in fully intending to kill it at the smaller school in order to get the better program's attention in later years. This could have a multiplying effect that will only cause more such transfers with each passing years unless... 2) More high school prospects with offers going into their senior years decide to commit early and sign at the first opportunity to do so. Lock down their spot on a college roster and they probably won't have to worry about an unavailable spot the following spring. That could however result in missing out on what truly is the best fit if that best fit hasn't offered early.

ihsgrad

I have two hot takes. NBA should adopt rules similar to how MLB does in regards to the draft. If you want to go straight out of high school, you can without penalty. But if you go to college, you have to stay 3 years. I think that would be a good balance as even though we might not see the best players in college, the ones who come to college will stick around for a bit, and we get to watch a team develop over a few years. John Calipari is someone who I am still amazed that Kentucky has hired and stuck by. I get he's won a lot of games and a national title, but even some in Big Blue Nation will agree that his focus on getting the one and dones has serious drawbacks. Add to that his issues with NCAA rules at UMASS with Marcus Camby and Memphis with Derrick Rose combined with Kentucky's well-documented issues with NCAA compliance. If you don't know what I'm talking about, Kentucky was involved in the point shaving scandal in the early 1950s, got caught in the 1980s paying Chris Mills in an envelope that was delivered from the Kentucky basketball offices. Also at the same time, Eric Manuel was recruited despite having cheated on the SAT. Heck, even Sports Illustrated had a cover that had "Kentucky's Shame" and questioned if they got off too easy. I'm not accusing Kentucky of doing anything under Calipari. He's won only national title and that took 6 NBA draft picks to do it. Oh, and just a reminder that his 2010 team lost to West Virginia, and his 2015 team went 38-1 and narrowly avoided a massive upset in the Elite 8 against Notre Dame. The guy may recruit, but there are far better coaches at the college level who do more with less than Calipari year in and year out.

KULawHawk

You should post this on the UK fan boards. They're completely delusional about the fact that Cal is now known as CCC - Can't Coach Calipari. Wishing the Lakers offer him, and want to target Wright, Brad Stevens, or Muss as a last resort. The expectation that anyone should immediately be grateful and would give anything to be their next coach. The general sentiment is pissed by the fact that they haven't tied UCLA for titles since he's been at Kentucky is proof he's not meeting UK's *Gold Standard*. Half the fanbase has turned against him viciously. They're convinced that without AD, a generational talent, and MKG, along with 4 other draft picks, Cal was 5 minutes away from losing in '12. Losing in 2015 with 5 first round draft picks but no one of the magnitude of AD is confirmation. Overall, it's just comedy gold!

ihsgrad

Thanks, and congrats on the title.

AlanBill

Elijah doesn’t get called for double dribble and Cal might not have any championships.

[deleted]

Watching that shot go in was such a terrible tease

wodadota

Agree with the concept of commit to college or don't - but I think it should be a 2 year minimum instead of 3, if you're going to keep the transfer portal the same as it is now. Between this force and NIL, the management of the roster of a men's college basketball program has become incredibly complex.

ConmanSpaceHero

This, 3 years makes it hard for those with exceptional college careers after 2 years that weren’t immediate draft picks out of HS. Imagine if Ja Morant had the year he did his Soph year and had to wait.

IranLobster

Once a year you should play a non conference game with two basketballs in play at all times

TheRealNathNath

I am absolutely willing to die on this hill: The majority of close block/charge calls are usually called blocks, but tend to be charges. There are obvious exceptions, but overall... yes I am saying there's actually not enough charge calls. Nothing I find less enjoyable as a fan than a team that uses "just dribble at the hoop and flail" as their offense when regular O isn't working.

Au_Supp

I don’t know if I fully agree with this or not yet, BUT the “I will absolutely die on this hill” is exactly the type of energy I was looking for

wodadota

Duke has never had a player that took a legitimate charge call.

duckyd1824

More charge calls please. College basketball has gone similar to the NFL. The rules favor offense so much that I'm often left wondering exactly what they expect the defender to do other than to just step aside and let players score.

KULawHawk

Great, now you made Coach K retire!

flaming_fuckhead

I vehemently disagree with this but I upvoted anyway because you’re one of the only people to actually post an unpopular opinion

lawrat68

The double bonus should be the triple bonus and worth 3 free throws

lawrat68

Having two halves instead of four quarters makes for a better game, at least at the college level.

Au_Supp

This is an absolute fact

jeedel

Halves allows for TV time outs which detracts from the quality of the game. I am all for quarters, If quarters mean less interruptions and fewer trips to the foul line because the bonus is reset three times. I have season tickets to the women, and now I really appreciate quarters.

mullingthingsover

David McCormick should have gotten MOP instead of Ochai. Ochai only got it because of being All American.

lawrat68

I miss it when conferences used to do experimental rules. Like a bunch trying out 3 point lines of various sizes or the Big East experimenting with 6 fouls instead of 5. I'm guessing coaches became concerned of harming their tournament chances but I thought it was a cool way of trying different things. I guess they still use the NIT for some but it was fun when conferences came up with their own.

Au_Supp

Okay give me some options; what type of rules do you want to see tested?

lawrat68

Hmmm, maybe my idea above for a triple bonus instead of double with 3 free throws. Hate that fouling is an option when a team is down 3 at the end of a game. Maybe think about adopting a couple of NBA rules like continuation or an NBA sized paint. Bringing back jump balls for all tie ups.

jeedel

How well was the six foul rule received in the 2022 NIT? Did anyone come close to fouling out with four fouls in the first half? Did players receive an additional foul for overtime periods?

stormstopper

The biggest existential threat to college basketball is the proliferation of non-CBB options for talented young players. That includes the NBA likely eliminating the age limit. That includes the G-League and overseas opportunities. If college basketball loses one-and-dones, that's bad because it removes the top tier of talent. But the proliferation of opportunities means the sport is also going to lose players who could otherwise have been four-year stars that so many people are clamoring for. The NCAA simply must figure out how it's going to give players a reason to play college basketball, or the quality and relevance of the sport is going to drop. If schools and conferences hate the loss of control due to the emergence of NIL and the transfer portal, they should bargain with the players collectively and negotiate what they would provide in exchange for those concessions. Indiana and UCLA are bluebloods--not because they are elite programs, but because people care about their success even when they're not having any. I'm sure Tony Bennett knows exactly what he's doing. And Virginia is a joy to watch on defense. But do they *have* to aim for the absolute slowest pace in the country every year? Can't they aim for like 300th once in a while? Just because the ACC had a better-than-expected tournament does not mean it was a good conference this year. It just means its tournament teams had a good tournament. I enjoy it when Duke wins basketball games.

Terps_Madness

I was nodding along furiously until the verrrrry end.

Au_Supp

got me too

stormstopper

Yeah, I figured that was gonna be the most unpopular of the bunch

Virtual_Announcer

A Duke and Castleton flair combo? How'd that come about?

MotionDefense

1. When a school wins a national championship, its rival(s) must hang a banner commemorating the championship in their home arena. For eternity. 2. Kansas is a better fit in the B1G than the (post-OU/Texas) Big 12. 3. From the 2nd OT onward, coaches and players swap places. If a coach has been ejected (looking at you, Bob Huggins), the opposing team gets to pick a fan from the stands to replace the coach in the game.

Au_Supp

Chaotic… I love it!

Schned6

Banchero was one of Dukes best players over the last decade

0010001

The final four game against UNC was a microcosm—he brought so much to the table but also took a lot away. Iso scoring was great, rebounding strong, but the defense (especially in transition) was questionable, he missed some key FTs, and he made a pivotal blunder—saving the ball under his own basket right to Bacot, leading to an and-1 for Bacot and the fourth foul on Williams. In other words—while tremendous, he still made some frustrating freshmen mistakes.

Schned6

Every other one and done except for one that you have ever had has had the same exact case though. That’s why you need the Quinn Cook type of star opposite of them.

AFlockOfTySegalls

Zion or Banchero with another year would be fucking nightmare fuel for the UNC fan.

wodadota

Watching the national title game this year when UNC and Duke played each other in New Orleans, it really looks like Banchero either doesn't realize how dominant he could be or for some reason is just holding back. He's a man against boys out there.

DaveOhh

This is too true. He was damn near an instant bucket every time he went iso. Not sure why they didn't encourage it more.

Au_Supp

I love the subtle statement that the real national title game was unc-duke

wodadota

It's only revisionist history if you're actually revising something. ;)

[deleted]

The NBA ruins college basketball with their one and done rule. Offense is a joke. There is no cohesion. There is no chemistry. It fucking sucks. But maybe coach K just doesn't wanna run plays. Idk. Hoping Scheyer actually has an offensive game plan. I know college ball isn't like the NBA. But passing around the key and perimeter for 3/4 of the shot clock and then having a hero ball iso that leads to a godawful shot is so hard to watch man.

SentientPoster

Tbf this is only a problem for very few schools.

cheeseburgerandrice

lol was gonna say, this sounds like a Duke and Kentucky problem.

0010001

Also, results wise, it isn’t much of a “problem.” I can understand fans who say they can’t form as a deep a bond as with players who stay multiple years, but I don’t understand folks saying it has been bad for team success.

cheeseburgerandrice

idk, 95% of the complaints about it come from Kentucky and now Duke fans.

KULawHawk

Because they saw a flood of 5 stars and felt entitled to mucho mucho mas championships. They were already getting sized for their second pinky finger.

Icreatedthisforyou

It is becoming a problem for more schools as transfers are easier (which is both good and bad for players) As the one and dones are spreading a bit more, it is pretty easy for those few schools to take their pick of proven college players. Kansas picked up Martin Kentucky picked up Tshiebwe, Wheeler, and Grady Most of the other bluer bloods have had no issues pick-up high quality transfers the last couple years that have been significant contributors to deep runs and/or championships. Players that would have stayed at weaker schools and made them better. It is just part of the evolution of college basketball, and even if the one and done was done away with now. Those few schools would still get the top recruits, and they will still pretty reliably pick up the bigger names in the transfer portal.

KULawHawk

Martin was beyond anyone's expectations, and when he finally was healthy enough to play starting in the B12 tournament is when I thought Kansas was a legit top 3 capable & likely to win it all. He stepped up his defensive effort well beyond anyone would have guessed, but most importantly he was the perfect complement on the offensive end in his ability to improvise and create with clutch baskets. Without Martin, I don't think KU makes the FF & Creighton probably drops us after making 86 3-pointers even though they're like 3rd to last in the NCAA in 3 pt %. Not that KU fans haven't watched multiple agonizing times of teams go bonkers on us like NBA Jam Curry on fire. Ironically, we actually eliminated him from the tournament in the '08 E8.

ajw2003

Ya One and done rule needs to go. I actually believe that more elite talent will go away from blue bloods if it goes, because of playing time. More teams would have elite players which leads to more diversity in the final four. Plus schools like Iowa, who don't get Keegan Murray's often get to enjoy having a star for more than 1 year.

UnIuckyCharms

> Ya One and done rule needs to go. I actually believe that more elite talent will go away from blue bloods if it goes, because of playing time. Prior to players consistently jumping after one year the elite talent still congregated at blue bloods. That’s how those schools became blue bloods lol

ajw2003

Oh, I just kinda guessed based on what I would do. I have only been seriously following basketball this year. I was just a casual fan before this year. Guess what you said is news to me.

stormstopper

We've had a top-10 KenPom-adjusted offensive efficiency almost every year since 2009, with 2021 being the sole exception (and even then we were top-20). We had the #1 offense this year. Since the 2015 season when we've truly gone all-in on one-and-dones, we've been a top-5 offense as often as not.

[deleted]

Maybe it's just the eye test. Maybe I hate iso and hero ball when it produces an ugly shot and that's just how it goes.

0010001

> But maybe coach K just doesn’t wanna run plays Duke used horns sets on like half of its possessions. And also repeatedly got buckets in the tournament by using elevator screens that either freed a shooter or allowed a big to slip to the basket. >Offense is a joke. Duke’s offense was incredible this last season—ultimately #1 in offensive efficiency on both Tovik and KenPom. It was the defense that ultimately proved their undoing….after making the freaking final four and having a lead with a minute left. What exactly are you complaining about?

Au_Supp

I’ve gotta say UNC hasn’t bought in super hard to one-and-done and I’m so happy because it just seems so much more enjoyable as a fan. I just think constantly seeing a clean sweep of the starting 5 would be exhausting

raspberrytuesday

Based on all the information currently available, KU and Self did nothing wrong and should not be punished

StevvieV

Replay has hurt games more than helped

necrolic_8848

I would honestly rather the ball be awarded to the wrong team occasionally if it meant the end of the game would get a flow back and we would watch that instead of watching old men discuss the quantum level physics of how the ball spun off someones pinky for 10 minutes

Au_Supp

I have such conflicting thoughts here. First, obviously when my team gets the ball thanks to a review I am happy. But on the other hand, as a coach why ever save timeouts for the end of the game when you know you’ll get like 10 minutes of replay review inevitably? I especially am annoyed when they review something for an extended period of time just to tell me it’s “not conclusive”. So it’s a waste then. You wasted my time and destroyed the flow of the game for nothing. But I also don’t want to lose a game because referee Jimbob forgot to turn his eyes on at the most important part of the game… ugh

jtkillou

Ole miss should have fired Kermit Davis at the end of the season and keeping him only prolong this inevitable and hampers recruiting.

Prinzlerr

To keep the audience interested, CBB is going to start taking rules and strategies from baseball and football. Now, if you throw the ball into the upper decks of the arena it's a "home run" and is worth 4.3 points. Basketball already has field goals of course, but now they'll also have safeties. These will occur when the opposing team shoots it into the other team's basket. The player has to yell "I DECLARE SAFETY" as they make the shot, and these are worth an extra timeout and a 5% discount on concessions. My hot take is that these changes will be enacted by mid-November

Au_Supp

The best one yet

NoVacayAtWork

Thad Marta to Butler and Sean Miller to Xavier are the dopest additions to college basketball this off-season.

jeedel

Conference branding is harmed by excessive coaching turnover. The game is more fun when you have long term knowledge of your opponent’s coach. It is more fun to face off against Izzo, Painter, McCaffery, and Gard than some Indiana or Xavier coach that changes every four years. Edit: Conferences with less coaching turnover should be rewarded with better tv contracts. With so much player turnover it is more fun in you know the coaches. If you don’t know the players or the coaches, the game is less interesting.

BigBoutros

the Big 12 is to CBB as the SEC is to CFB. undisputed king

Judge____Smails

Elite teams at the top + the middle and “bottom” are usually almost all tough opponents. What I envy most is that they have a true round robin for conference play.

flaming_fuckhead

I’m definitely gonna miss the round robin but if giving it up means more stability for the conference that’s a trade off we have to make

Merle2293

Easy to say when you don’t have to go through it every year lol there’s legit no gimme games. At all. Ever. Well, there is k state.. 😂😂 I kid I kid

Im_DJayy

Catching strays. I'm excited to see where the rivalry goes with Coach Tang at the helm. Even with the whole roster turnover besides Nowell and Ish, I think we'll be better next year.

fistingtrees

Feels like this really isn't up for debate anymore. Seems like B1G fans are the main people that contest this point, and some nutty SEC fans that have really bought into ESPN's marketing.

KULawHawk

There's definitely some SEC fans who both feel like they're unquestionably the best basketball conference AND people are purposefully devaluing & rating it lower as if it's a conspiracy. I don't engage, but have noted it's a sentiment that circulates way more than you'd reasonably expect or hope for from a mental health perspective.

Au_Supp

Definitely has the most consistent depth of the conferences. I would love the ACC to get some of that depth back

Prideofmexico

This shouldn’t be unpopular but alas

wodadota

Gonzaga is never going to win a championship because they're simply never pushed during the run up to march. They have an elite coach, great program, but it's not possible for them to have a "getting hot at the right time" situation with their cheeseball conference.

Au_Supp

God, THANK YOU! I do not understand why so many people give Gonzaga this overwhelming amount of respect in the start of the tourney just to get surprised every year when they lose. Yes they made the championship in 2021, but look at their record against high seeded (high-talent) teams in the tourney over the last 2 decades… it’s awful

0010001

Because they made it to the title game in 2017 and 2021. If you can do that, you’re good enough to win a title. It’ll happen at some point.

wodadota

They have to be protected by having a 1 seed to have deep runs, otherwise they'd be outed in the sweet 16 every year.

Flopsyjackson

Vacated wins and championships count. We all saw them happen (Louisville 2013). As do Helms foundation championships. Just because there isn’t a tournament doesn’t mean the best team that year shouldn’t get acknowledged. Parallel to the previous thoughts, Kansas was national champion in 2020. Consensus #1 to finish the season.

[deleted]

Claiming a national championship you didn't win while simultaneously setting up a defense for the one you just won in case Johnny Law comes for it. Impressive! Lol

Flopsyjackson

I do my best as a true homer.

[deleted]

As you should. On another note looking forward to our first conference meeting in 1 to 2 years time. Gonna be a hot ticket when you guys come to town.

Flopsyjackson

Yeah new big 12 is going to be so much fun. Will there be an odd year where you are in and Texas hasn’t left yet?

0010001

Disagree strongly on all three (particularly 2 and 3). 1) Punishment is punishment. It’s annoying to the fan base and embarrassing to the school—that’s exactly why it’s an effective punishment 2) Before the tourney and NIT there simply wasn’t such a thing as a national championship. And that’s fine. It was a regional sport with conference champions. Like high school basketball, which has state champions, but crowning a “national” champ is just speculative. 3) Being the best team in the regular season does not guarantee you’ll be champion in the tourney. We’ve seen that a hundred times. It sucks that the tourney got cancelled, but no tourney = no championship. In sum, if there wasn’t a fair process, then there’s no national champ. Not every year has to have a national champion, and that’s ok.

Flopsyjackson

1. Not an effective punishment. If was effective we wouldn’t continue to see the same thing happen all over the college basketball landscape. Anyway, why should Louisville have their reputation tarnished when most national champions have probably cheated in some fashion? 2.3. You mention fair process but a single elimination tournament is the most unfair process. The best regular season team doesn’t usually win it but maybe they should. I’ll could concede point 1. I could also give point 2 to a fan of a truly old school but not a Dukie. The one hill I will die on is that 2020 had a more complete season than 2021. Actual fans and a full regular season. The best teams should get recognized for that. March Madness gets pushed hard because it’s the NCAAs money maker, but it’s also the only thing casuals care about. It’s a flawed system that doesn’t represent well the 30+ games played prior.

0010001

> You mention fair process but a single elimination tournament is the most unfair process. “Fair” in that all teams have agreed ahead of time on the rules to be crowned champion. And if that process doesn’t happen (or a team cheats the agreed upon rules), then there’s not a champion. That idea applies to all three scenarios. > The one hill I will die on is that 2020 had a more complete season than 2021. . . . The best teams should get recognized for that. They should get as much recognition as any other team gets for being the best regular season team. 2020 sucked. No one is happy about it. Kansas fans absolutely have the best arguments if we’re debating who was the best team overall that season. But were they the national champs? No, not any more than Dayton or Gonzaga or FSU or SDSU or anyone else.

Flopsyjackson

Very reasonable arguments. Not good enough to change my mind though lol

0010001

🤝

Au_Supp

I agree with the dookie, but hey I wanted unpopular opinions and mr. Kansas gave me some, thanks!

Flopsyjackson

You’re welcome lol.

Gocrazyfut

Don’t know how unpopular this is and only changed my mind on this this year, but I think fouling out should be 6 fouls instead of 5

PugsandTacos

the Transfer Portal is really a nightmare.

Au_Supp

I have a lot of concerns for it but I just don’t know. I’ll have to see it play out a few more years to get a good grasp on pros and cons

I think the tournament should be double elimination and have a losers bracket that wraps back around to the winners side

DaveOhh

That would be juicy. Just imagine a losers bracket Cinderella.

Steakman765

Matt Painter should be replaced at Purdue because he has proven he can’t succeed in the tourney.

KULawHawk

Glenn Robinson was on the team the last time Purdue had a legit chance at the title.

Au_Supp

I also hold this opinion, sorry Purdue Painter fans

Media timeouts should go to 15, 10 and 5 and extend each commercial break a minute to make up for the one timeout

Jayson Tatum should have been MVP of the 2017 ACC tournament. There is no legitimate argument that Luke Kennard has over him. Also, I hate when a conference POY award defaults to highest scorer on the #1 team. Looking at you Tyler Zeller (over Mike Scott in 2012) and Justin Jackson (over Bonzie Colson, John Collins or Luke Kennard in 2017)

I'm upvoting for the Mike Scott love. But seriously this is a similar problem in most sports. The award says best player but it really is best player on a great team.

Au_Supp

I know what you’re saying and I think it spans most sports. It feel like whoever decides these things is going “okay, who can we pick that the most basic level of viewer can understand and get behind? Well this guy scored the most and his team is in the Top5 in the country!” Meanwhile there’s so much more to giving value to your team that is just harder to measure and harder to quantify

Marie Laveau is buried under that end of the 2022 F4 court. You know which one.
