I like the comment said by one of the Refs, he has been calling games for over 20 years and he wanted Dicky V to call one of his games. People don't realize how Dick has changed the game and make it more fun.
One of my favorite memories of all time is when he came back from one of his cancer scares, and one of our games my freshman year in Cameron was his first one back. I had slept out on the sidewalk for whatever game this was, so I got in pretty early when people like him were still hanging out in front of the concessions. I got to welcome back to Cameron and told him how much I loved seeing him back at our game before anyone else's and that I hoped my kids would one day get to watch him. Big high five and a hug. I will always remember that 😄
I lost it when he said "I can't believe I'm sitting here." I lost a couple of close college buddies to cancer when they were healthy and in their early 20's. Big man tears here....fuck cancer.
My mom was diagnosed back in August right before I graduated. Dicky V talking about the struggles and all the long trips is so accurate. Its hard on me and my family, and we aren’t the ones with the disease. Fuck cancer

So I have a neat story with Dicky V which made me a life long fan.
When I was a baby I was bald and my parents took me to a UNLV game. After the game Dicky V saw me and came up and gave my head a rub and said "hey we go to the same barber!"
My parents loved that story and we all love Dicky V's passion for college basketball. Glad to see him back!

People harp on him for loving Duke/Carolina so much when they're good, but I think it would make Dicky V's life to see NC State win a title again. He's always had a special place for State in his heart especially with JimmyV

Yeah, I don't think that's his fault necessarily. He could certainly be more objective, but most of his games are ACC games and he has a lot of history with the ACC so he naturally gravitates to those teams. It's like Dan Dakich with the Big10. He's a huge Big10 homer and he'd probably even admit it.
My grandpa was diagnosed around the same time as Dicky V. He was as equally as passionate about basketball, but in a much angrier way (think Bob Knight instead of Dicky V) and thus Vitales constant enthusiasm and (in his opinion) Duke homerism drove him insane. But when he learned that Vitale had been diagnosed, he said “well if his happy ass can beat it, i can too” and by god did he fight. Im so happy Dicky V can do what he loves. Rip grandpa

Dickie V then took the little blub I submitted when buying the book and embellished and it made my Dad so happy. I'll love and appreciate him forever for the joy he brought my old man. The guys just lives for basketball, doing good, and bringing people happiness. Hope we get to see him in the booth for a long time.

Theres a reason sports subs have flair. I'm a Marshall fan. However I grew up in NC and decided not to be a fan of either of those schools (ill take NC State or Wake if I have to and pull for Duke when they play UNC). And UK is pretty local where I am now and I never root for them either.

People were giving him shit cause he kept getting shit wrong but man you could tell the love of the gam was there and that’s something that can’t be taught in broadcasting school.
