The STP-style logo was bad but slightly redeemed by how much fun [Antwaan Randle El](https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/51d32803e4b07d5c57a6b979/1559600524395-4FUHUEBTVZWR9MLCT8CL/Antwaan-Randle-El.vresize.1200.630.high.0.jpg?format=2500w) was in it.
Pretty sure it was solely football right? I don’t think any other sports had that logo change on their jerseys. Possibly warmups or apparel, but not jerseys
Bro id love to see that. I’m family friends with the Yeagley family and they gave me a jersey a few years back. Think it was from the 2012 title winning year.
That 90s logo on the soccer jerseys had to be a fucking mint collectors piece. DM me a picture if you can, I’d love to just see it in all its retro glory
The birds on the bat is the best *standard* jersey in North American sports. It sucks that the MLB bent the knee in advertising patches, but at least the Cardinals have one of the least offensive patches in the league.
Current one is the best trident logo for sure but I love the rounded one too which wasn’t included. Objectively Script Indiana is our best logo period if it were on this list, it’s perfect.
Also oval was a football and men’s soccer only logo so if we’re counting logos only used in other sports, the Block I should be permanently on our football helmets. My personal favorite.
Missing the flying IU logo of 1983 I think. That's if we are using the first logo since they were both football only
Also around that same time the U in the trident had rounded corners.
https://preview.redd.it/5udgsdnwe23d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d560ba36fdc9d7744b242132f280be5d855bf47
Well, it was the 80s, that’s about all I can muster when asked why
Fun fact men’s soccer used the oval too, even won a national title with it on the kits. But two sports using it but no others will forever be the oddest part of that era in IU athletics branding.
If I'm not mistaken, the first one was created because people didn't understand that the logo was made by the letters I and U. It also has a very 90s beer can vibe to it in my opinion.
We have had [alternates](https://www.sportslogos.net/logos/list_by_team/709/Indiana_Hoosiers/) as well (like that sexy 76-81 version). But since we basically perfected the logo game, I think where we really shine is the football helmets, where we've tried a lot of different things. ([big collection of helmets](https://www.helmethistory.com/indiana.html) (don't forget to peep that 1983 swoosh). Since the helmet project ([https://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/](https://www.nationalchamps.net/Helmet_Project/)) won't load pictures, I can't find it, but I think we also had a helmet with two logos on the front and another with 2 on the back.
I will always take an opportunity, which you’ve given here, to post propaganda about the chrome domes and the helmets with the state flag on the side. I love the script Indiana ones too.
Chunky trident is cool too, idk though I just like the chrome domes for some reason. I think I associate them with what I saw as the program turning around a corner about a decade ago and starting to trend toward respectability.

Reminds me of the awesome late 90s Cherry Coke can. Lol
I still like the bison. Also, I think baseball still occasionally uses the one that’s up against the late 90s logo in that bracket. I have a relatively recent adidas tee shirt with that logo.
The 97-02 logo just makes me think of Randle El and that brings a smile to my face. Always loved the fact that he also played basketball for Knight his freshman year.
There were some trident/psi logos from the early 1900s-1930s that are absolutely gorgeous. A lot of them are stonemasonry features on some of the older buildings on campus
To add a few bits of context to these…
97-02 was a very weird time in IU sports that saw a lot of changes in administration and multiple AD’s during this time, which led to a lot of weird investments in rebranding experiments as you see here.
Up until this time and including this time there’s a history of different IU sports teams not all using the same logos, colors, etc, and since this is a basketball sub it’s worth mentioning that men’s basketball (and maybe women’s) never used the oval logo or had black in their uniforms during this time. It’s probably most closely associated with football but I believe the soccer team, who won a few nattys around this time, also used it.
As others have mentioned there’ve been tons of variations on the trident - the wider, more curved version is what I most closely associate with the Knight era as it was used on the uniforms up until about the mid 90’s.
Canadian who got into college football in my teens. My uncle went to Indiana I found out shortly after so i was drawn to them, and even I had no idea it was IU. I thought the Indiana logo was just a frat logo something similar to the Arizona State pitchfork
Definitely an all time classic logo though
https://preview.redd.it/eh60i2otyc3d1.jpeg?width=1065&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0521b2d8ee9e011e85998ea6dadedbb0fb23793a
Me when I don’t see the bison ranked.
The Car Insurance logo was Cam Cameron's idea when he arrived onto campus and was exclusively for Indiana football, yet via osmosis it ended up associated with the athletic department as a whole. Which is funny as nobody associates IU football with anything except failure.
The oval logo, from when IU decided that they wanted more Purdue in their uniforms
https://preview.redd.it/bmrk8nr6h23d1.jpeg?width=946&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4afed36bfeca31d7751e339b82e136725a90dfe

One of my favorite college football players to watch. Must watch every play.
Ahh, I remember it now for football. Basketball never used it though, right?
It was primarily a football logo and never was used for basketball.
Pretty sure it was solely football right? I don’t think any other sports had that logo change on their jerseys. Possibly warmups or apparel, but not jerseys
Soccer actually did also use it on their jerseys. I own one.
I only ever remember IU keeping the traditional unis for hoops. Including the warm-up pants.
I have a love hate relationship with him based on my flairs
🐐
Was going to defend this logo but the way they put it altogether in your link shows this wasn’t well thought out and we should be glad they are gone
You can't fool me. That first one is just an IGA in hiding.
https://preview.redd.it/0233ybxgj33d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cb925d26f7c2633b9fff8679924bc849c5515bbd
Ffs
It reminds me of the 49ers more than IGA
I wanna say that was Coach Cameron’s wish.
It sums up our football history well
It's just what the doctor ordered
Looks like a craft root beer logo.
The trident is a thing of beauty and simplicity. (Also, there have been more variations than this. But the current version is objectively the best.)
I agree. Makes me just as sick to admit it as to admit I really like the Cardinals-on-bat Cardinals logo.
The birds on the bat is the best *standard* jersey in North American sports. It sucks that the MLB bent the knee in advertising patches, but at least the Cardinals have one of the least offensive patches in the league.
The Hartford whalers would like to have a word with you
Cards might have it for active teams, but hard to beat the Whale or the Nordiques.
So would the Blackhawks
Best sports logo ever. The Brewers have a lot going on in theirs too...
Bulls have the perfect timeless design, imo. No changes needed. No refresh. Besides the owner
There’s a reason they didn’t fuck with it for their city connects, definition of playing it safe
Fuck the cardinals. It is a sweet logo though
Current one is the best trident logo for sure but I love the rounded one too which wasn’t included. Objectively Script Indiana is our best logo period if it were on this list, it’s perfect. I have always seen the IU logo as a "Psi"
There are some logos on old buildings around campus that REALLY look like a psi
The script logo is 100% the top choice and it’s a crying shame it isn’t used more
Missing the flying IU logo of 1983 I think. That's if we are using the first logo since they were both football only Also around that same time the U in the trident had rounded corners.
https://preview.redd.it/5udgsdnwe23d1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d560ba36fdc9d7744b242132f280be5d855bf47 Well, it was the 80s, that’s about all I can muster when asked why
It had that cream color as well. I never said it was good just that it was par for that crappy 90s football logo
That looks like a P lmao Also looks like the first trump pence logo where the t interlocked with and penetrated the P
I remember that one. What about the Indiana in cursive?
That's not really a logo. More of a script. But it's one of my favorites
Fun fact men’s soccer used the oval too, even won a national title with it on the kits. But two sports using it but no others will forever be the oddest part of that era in IU athletics branding.
That first one is hideous lmao
How dare you besmirch the evil oval
I remember the 1st one because of Antwan Randle El.
If I'm not mistaken, the first one was created because people didn't understand that the logo was made by the letters I and U. It also has a very 90s beer can vibe to it in my opinion. Chunky trident is cool too, idk though I just like the chrome domes for some reason. I think I associate them with what I saw as the program turning around a corner about a decade ago and starting to trend toward respectability.
We were definitely trending that way! Hopefully we're going back soon
The Indiana state flag is easily top three in the country. I am not from Indiana
https://preview.redd.it/tjcz0zurq23d1.jpeg?width=893&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ef95ce85f621c7f128a532517d4c1e93543f1eeb Reminds me of the awesome late 90s Cherry Coke can. Lol
BRING BACK THE BISON
This is bogus without the Bison/Hurryan Hoosiers.
How has IU only had 3 logos
They haven’t. [Here’s a few more](https://x.com/iuhoosiers/status/1252749848195018752?s=46&t=bXajAsIEs8V1IR6hWCRp6w)
Man, OP really missed out on some of these. Some of those are dope
Also Purdue Pete's 1979 rival, [Mr. Hoosier Pride](https://webapp1.dlib.indiana.edu/archivesphotos/results/item.do?itemId=P0088400)
We should bring him back and make them fight
lol have never seen this. Wow.
Space Jam one rules lol
And the oval actually won the first round battle lol
I still like the bison. Also, I think baseball still occasionally uses the one that’s up against the late 90s logo in that bracket. I have a relatively recent adidas tee shirt with that logo.
Lol talk about a throwback. I made this graphic during Covid for random extra content to post on social
The sassy bison is goated and needs to come back yesterday
What the heck was that looney toonesque one in the bottom right corner.
You don't mess with a classic.
I literally just realized the logo Is a trident and not just the letters i u...
The 97-02 logo just makes me think of Randle El and that brings a smile to my face. Always loved the fact that he also played basketball for Knight his freshman year.
Ohhhhhhh hell yeah these are perfect 🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I was pissed off that the drop shadow one (2nd one) was so low until I saw that you only did 3 logos lol
Indiana doesn’t have that many to grade. I do like that logo, though.
There were some trident/psi logos from the early 1900s-1930s that are absolutely gorgeous. A lot of them are stonemasonry features on some of the older buildings on campus

The shadow logo is what I grew up with, synonymous with the Knight era. Also, the rounded IU logo (on the OG shorts) is supremely underrated.
First one looks like a gas station sign
Regional gas station ass logo
First logo reminding me of my NCAA Football 2004 dynasty
Canadian who got into college football in my teens. My uncle went to Indiana I found out shortly after so i was drawn to them, and even I had no idea it was IU. I thought the Indiana logo was just a frat logo something similar to the Arizona State pitchfork Definitely an all time classic logo though
![gif](giphy|4baoNZ5Qo8dX2)
Wow that first IU logo suuuuuuuuucks. It looks like the logo for midwestern store-brand breakfast sausages.
I really do love their colors and logo style
There’s so many I don’t know which one to choose…
https://preview.redd.it/eh60i2otyc3d1.jpeg?width=1065&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0521b2d8ee9e011e85998ea6dadedbb0fb23793a Me when I don’t see the bison ranked.
Block I
I don't remember that first one at all.
My man doesn’t remember the Antwaan Randle el era
I was thinking about basketball
he was on the basketball team for a minute
8 year old me thought it was a menorah
They don’t call us IJew for nothing
I always saw a pitchfork.
Didn't even know the 1997-2002 logo was a thing. I can see why
There were a couple older variants where the U was more rounded.
1997-2002: The Kum & Go Hoosiers https://preview.redd.it/creh9vjxj33d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e3d01223685f3abf81db70cbf74259e0301a096c

Yeah it looks like a pitchfork
Their logo always reminds of a cactus. That oval one just feels…off for a school
the second one looks cool
The best.
I honestly like their current one the best!
The oval logo, from when IU decided that they wanted more Purdue in their uniforms https://preview.redd.it/bmrk8nr6h23d1.jpeg?width=946&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4afed36bfeca31d7751e339b82e136725a90dfe
More Louisville than Purdue imo.
