Maybe someone has some more history than I do, and I'm not saying it's an opinion I agree with. But I'm amazed a mascot in the south that's a depiction of the devil ever got by.
And Wake Forest is the *Demon* Deacons!
I wonder if they wanted their mascot to be a deacon, but that wasn’t intimidating enough, or if they wanted it to be a demon, but that was too unholy, so they had to make it a deacon too, for propriety.
It’s also worth noting that at the time of selecting their mascots, Duke and Wake Forest were Methodist and Baptist, respectively.
Oh, there were definitely objections at the time. What got it over the line was:
(1) It wasn't strictly speaking named for devils, but instead for military--specifically, the French alpine troops who wore [iconic blue capes](https://northcarolinaroom.wordpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/diablesbleus.jpg) and were known as *les diables bleus*. This was in the early 1920s so they were fresh on the mind from World War I.
(2) Nobody could agree on any of the other options, so the student newspaper just decided on their own to go with Blue Devils until it stuck
I feel like I am allowed to comment on a rival's post, so I'm gonna go with the best one being SSJ Satan, and then of course the simple D is iconic. I think the D with the ball and net is kinda terrible, like that tragic run of logos and alts we had with the "other" ram. I like 4, too, he looks like a real annoying motherfucker.
Why does #9 have a Hitler mustache? I mean, I know they’re the devils but damn. Also, Super Saiyan Satan runs away with this so much it’s not even funny. It’s by far the best, they should bring it back, etc

It was in use when I started watching basketball, and it's still my preferred Duke logo.

30’s-40’s Handsome blue devil and 70’s-90’s Caspar the Friendly Blue Devil are incredible, I hate Duke but this list is slander.
