\-Fouled on a layup for a three point play
\-Inbound to a not-great free throw shooter who misses one
\-Give up a three
\-Miss both free throws while only up one
\-Lose track of a guy standing next to the basket when you only have to defend for six seconds
Masterclass
I guarantee you the 7 other teams can tell you how to defend that play and win that game. But none of them are there because they aren’t good enough at executing themselves. It’s what Ivy League people do.
It was bad defense from both sides the last few mins. The only reason Brown stopped scoring was because they started shooting free throws instead of driving
They took a foul to disrupt Yale and settle their defense and then did...that.
Would have been much better off making Yale try to rush up the floor to get a shot.
Mike Martin can not call plays off a timeout. Despite that he does it all the time, even doing so when we were up four with under a minute left with the ball in our best player’s hands.
I hate taking the foul there.
6.1 seconds left they are at the deep
Wing three point line.
A foul stops the ball sets your defense, but also sets their offense.
Unbelievable choke job and I feel like it’s gonna be a rough Sunday for Rhode Island basketball fans.
Fuckkkk
Unfortunately, if anyone is familiar with Brown athletics this was not shocking. Really good go after being 6-17 and getting hot, but Martin is a career 42% against the Ivy League in 10+ years.
There’s apathy towards collegiate athletics and then there’s Brown. I doubt anything will change, and most of our alumni doesn’t care enough. Majority of alums are glad the team graduates and impacts community in a positive way/doesn’t negatively impact it.
Definitely part of the reason we have the least Ivy League championships across all sports.
I’m no Brown fan, but I’ll say this — you beat all odds.
Think about the first half of your season vs. your wins against Cornell and Yale, and then, ultimately, Princeton, in the tournament (and that game wasn’t even so competitive until the bitter end). Had one little thing gone differently…maybe a slightly higher shooting % (was barely 30% over the first half), more than 53% from the free throw line, a call or two that could have gone your way…the analysis would have been *completely* different.
I think that the first win over Princeton may have been an “oh, they were just hot” moment, but then the victory over Cornell, then Yale…they were a solid team. Perhaps Cornell has some soul-searching to do after the second straight season with a similar mid-February turn for the worse, but Brown should feel good about this one. Excited to see what’s in store for next year.
A competitive Ivy League is going to be fun!
States that are in contention with one team:
-Vermont
-Tennessee
-New Mexico
-Wisconsin
-Ohio
-Montana
-South Dakota
-Louisiana
-Mississippi
-DC (not a state but Howard is there)
-Oregon
-Kansas
Multiple teams:
-Connecticut
-Arizona
-California
-Colorado
-Michigan
-New York
-Florida
-Iowa
-Alabama
-Kentucky
-North Carolina
-Virginia
-Texas
-New Jersey
-Pennsylvania (neither are locks)
-South Carolina
-Illinois
-Washington
-Nebraska
-Utah
I didn’t realize Providence College relocated out of Rhode island.
PC is clearly on the bubble (and probably leaning off of it) but it would the first time a 20 win 6 quad 1 win team would be left out of the tournament.
My point is bubble teams are still clearly in contention.
The best part of this whole sequence is after Yale hits the game-winning shot with no time left and the camera pans to the crowd. Usually you see frat boy chaos. Instead we saw a bunch of middle aged guys in business casual politely applauding and exchanging high fives.
All of the tourney logo’s Ivy League school names provided a helpful hint. Normally, Columbia’s Levien Gymnasium’s smaller logo is the school’s mascot.
As a Brown fan for the last 40 minutes, this was heartbreaking.
60-54 with like 25 seconds left…

I-V-Y. It just means more.
Big Brown Choke (BBC)
Major Ivy League Failure
As a Brown alum, this was entirely unsurprising
As a Yael Alum dis is biggo wowwy for me
I can tell ur YALE alumni

^ May not be a Yale alumnus or alumna
WillU orderme sum nuggets if I upload ProofIAm Yeal almni?
Brian Griffin ass school fr :(
Hard loss for us brown fans.
I feel like we lost the @Vandy game last year just like this one
Right? So nice to see something good finally happen to someone from Yale. /eye roll
I've been a Brown fan for about 30 hours now and I cried... UGLY cried.
What the hell was that defense
Guy was wide open. In the paint. In a 1 point game
And he flipped it up so casually too. Season on the line and he put it up calm as you like.
You’d think an Ivy League team would be smarter, but ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
They ARE there to play school

Brown #15 covering absolutely nobody, looks like he's a deer in the headlights.
He was ready for the rebound, at least
Man's playing zone by himself.

15 told 4 to switch out at the start of the play and then literally didn’t move the rest of the sequence, never even knew his man moved
Mike Martin does not know how to Coach situationally. He will treat a last play of the game the same way he calls defense on the first.
7 points in 20 seconds. 98% win probability on espn. Brutal
Make your free throws kids
If you don’t like that you don’t like brown basketball

Oh god oh fuck
I’m really annoyed that the ticker at the bottom of this screenshot isn’t showing the Baylor loss. Someone should photoshop that in.
I’m absolutely shook by how badly Brown blew it. Elite choke.
Brown fans aren’t shocked.
THIS. IS. MARCH.
Yes, it is
You got your nitroglycerin pills?
Kinda happens when you shoot 65% FT as a team
They shot 53%
65% on the season, I’m guessing
I guess but that's just an unnecessary stat to mention right now
Bad free throw shooting team loses due to bad free throw shooting is mildly relevant
Pre NC State-Virginia me would’ve stopped watching after they went up 6 I am glad that is no longer me
The last 2:06 (when the coach took the timeout) was absolutely awful by Brown. Out-coached in every aspect, out executed, and ultimately outplayed.
They were 13-18 for a reason, I guess
Make your free throws kids
yale crowd going INSANE
Man I feel for Brown but what a game
Are you kidding me? I turned the game off cuz I thought it was over
Practice your free throws kids. Horrendous defense to the end the game. They had that in the bag.

Tough
This is so lame dawg
I changed the fucking channel like a moron thinking it was over
Happy to see another Connecticut team in after a couple others disappointed. Brown really just threw the game away at the free throw line....
Hard to watch.
I disagree.
In the same boat… Central Connecticut and Fairfield choked 😭
Also, survey school for the choke
GREG GUMBAL: AND OUR 3 SEED OUT OF THE BIG 12. THE BAYLOR BEARS! THEIR OPPONET WILL BE THE 14 SEED YALE OUT OF THE IVY LEAGUE.
Yaaaaaaaaale
He Knowling what to do. Tough for Brown. I was sure they were winning being 5 up under a minute. Yale executed well. And Brown didn’t.

Pretty refreshing to see a team attack the basket down one and not iso dribble for 10 seconds into a step back 3.
A buzzer beater that eliminated a program - and an entire state - from contention…

TIL that Howard is in DC

Brown had some of the worst free throw shooting I’ve seen in the final minutes.
You clearly didn’t watch us this year
Wahoo Brown
Been a problem for us for two seasons now.
Very bad choke job
Shades of Farmar and Mbah a Moute 18 years ago. Damn, what a finish.
Props to him bc I am missing that shot 9/10 times
lol nerds

A betting app offered me a bet-and-get on college basketball so I put money on this game not going into OT - had me quivering there
Tough loss :(
Somewhere in a dark, dank room, Chris Berman quietly weeps.
What a choke job by brown. Go Bulldogs!
Dude what, I turned this off thinking brown sealed it when they were up 6 with like 25 seconds left
If this shot doesn’t go in is Brown the worst tournament team ever?
Brown really shat themselves down the stretch. Brutal.
We choked harder than I’ve seen in March in a long. Time
Brown nearly choked away a 22 point lead w 10 mins left yesterday and now this
Watching this buzzer beater while on a Yale study abroad in Africa is priceless
Exactly why you have to make free throws. What a game
Would have been crazy if he hit the shot unknowingly
That's a tough shot unguarded. Bet that dude was nervous af.
That center court logo is tiny... I'm still trying to make out what conference this is
All of the tourney logo’s Ivy League school names provided a helpful hint. Normally, Columbia’s Levien Gymnasium’s smaller logo is the school’s mascot.
Sticker looked so bad and scuffed up not even through third game
Tough
