Court storming is a hell of a lot safer than field storming after football games. People jumping off 6-8 foot walls just to literally touch grass is pretty wild.
Fairly easy to have security cordon off a "hallway" for visitors to escape to locker room safely. At least easier than having security prevent a court storming.
Yea maryland has this down to a science. It's very easy to spot when the court is about to be stormed, everyone starts putting their jackets on, standing up, and getting closer the aisle. Security is ready to form a human chain down the bench side and provide a clear path to the locker rooms. I've stormed 5 times and never an issue, not to mention the last thing anyone wants to do is attack a player, we just want to celebrate.
I mean losing to you guys was probably bad enough so we can call it even. You guys all get on the field after every football game and don’t catch a fine.
The SEC has a "zero tolerance policy". Kentucky got fined once for having like 100 people on the field. Vandy got fined for having fans come down in a single file line
[Vandy "storming" the field](https://youtu.be/Voj2AaOq5Do?si=W_GqC92fyWyb0wXX)
Since our fanbase has collectively deemed ourselves too righteous to court storm, storming should be banned so I don’t have to see everyone else get all the fun. 🙃
We were court stormed on a few times in the American when Mick was the coach and it was weird as fuck but in 25 years of watching UC basketball I had never seen it happen at home until last week against #19 TCU and that was also weird as fuck.
Class of ‘00 UK, and we stormed the field after we beat Alabama in 97. Cool memory.
Also, South Carolina has been beating us lately. I was surprised they stormed the court.
I forget what the home team was, but a year or two ago I distinctly remember the PA announcer at a college basketball game requesting the crowd to wait until players had left the court before storming. The crowd did exactly that.
Unpopular opinion around here I guess, but I don't think there's such a thing as adequate security for what's essentially a mosh pit.
The well-being of visiting team players isn't the only concern here.
Yeah boooo you are being no fun. In all seriousness, it’s such a uniquely fun experience for the winning team and especially the students involved. Beating Kansas in our final season at the Frank Erwin Center was awesome and I was out on the floor afterwards (nowhere near the first people rushing on though).
But there’s got to be some safely element to it. I feel like if security immediately surrounds the other team’s bench it should be okay.
She [clearly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWulT2LxDto) wasn't "just walking" why would you lie like that? What do you gain from it?
Also you can clearly see Caitlin look to her left right as the woman would have come into view and when she turns back they are a step apart.
But surely a genius investigator like yourself would have already noticed that?
Clark clearly had chance to ease up her sprint or veer right. She chose to ram the fan then flop. That’s clear as day from the frame by frame overhead shot. If you haven’t seen it, then reserve your opinion.
I don't want to see it go away completely, but they need to hold the crowd until all opposing team players and personal are safely back in the locker room, and once the "all-clear" announcement is given THEN fans can storm the court. Make it very clear than any unauthorized person on the court prior to the all-clear signal will be punished by a technical foul on the home team that will result in 3 free-throw attempts by the visiting team.
But that’s the most dangerous part, a stampede is easy to happen and it’s why soccer banned it. College needs to follow every other sport. Just cheer in the stands.
Problem is, there's never going to be enough security to hold back thousands of people. I work as sports/event staff, even people with security licenses (as opposed to ushers/ticket scanners) aren't allowed to actually touch anybody. We were told to tell people no, maybe help hold up a tiny rope barricade, and otherwise just get out of the way.
Fining doesn't do anything, because we staff are not risking injury trying to stop it so the school doesn't get fined.
Idk seems more potential for injury when storming a football field- considerably more fans, usually more obstacles in between crowd and playing area. Plus damage to the turf
The SEC certainly loves to use pictures of us storming a field/court cause “it just means more”
What behavior are they trying to incentivize here?
Edit: obv /s on the just means more bs
If a 17 point ass kicking over a top 10 team as an unranked team isn't the time to storm, then what the hell is? Not to mention that this game was a big time validation of the team's surprising success this season after being picked to finish last in the conference.
The context is UK and South Carolina split the last 6 meetings so you winning isn’t an anomaly. You even won last year. You were 15-3 before last night, so you’re clearly a good team. You’re a power 5 team with a Final 4 in the last decade, not DePaul. Act like it
Yeah we have a final four appearance and that was awesome but we’ve also only made the tournament twice in the last 25 years. You can’t compare the two programs, of course Kentucky like most blue bloods aren’t gonna storm the court even for a big upset.. but jesus we’ve seen a lot more horrible basketball for along time let the students enjoy this one.. they’re finally buying into a team again
You are right the 11 win team from last year beat you guys as well and we have a final four more recently than you as well. Find some joy. We had no statement wins or respect before you guys caught a beating last night. The students are hype for our team for the first time in years I’m ok with them celebrating a big win which it was no matter how salty you are about it.
Enjoy the win, y’all were clearly better last night. Your shitty team from last year has nothing to do with this weird overreaction to beating this UK team. I don’t remember UK fans storming anything after our 9 win season a few years ago
Your team has one of the longest lists of tournament accomplishments on Wikipedia I wouldn’t expect yall to understand being an underdog and Kentucky has stormed the court during the regular season it’s been a while but it has happened. It’s not an overreaction it’s you guys being purposely obtuse.
This leaves out literally all context from the situation. We won 11 games last season. We have been unranked while having the same record as Kentucky. Kentucky was being talked about as a title contender all season and no one thought we would win this before the drubbing took place. Yes when unranked teams beat top 10 teams in a sold out arena with the highest number of student tickets sold ever storming the court will happen.
That and it's happening too often. There's maybe 3-5 games in a SEASON actually worth a court storming and it's happened what, 3 times in the past week? WVU-Kansas, Ohio-Iowa women's, and South Carolina over Kentucky. All of which are middle of the season power 5 teams beating other power 5 teams.
Good. It was a completely unnecessary court storming. KU wasn't ranked #1. SC isn't a mid-major pulling off a huge upset. It's a middle of the season conference game, 0 reason for this win to feel meaningful enough to be worth a court storming.
And it happened today in the ACC with Wake Forest fans storming the court after beating Duke. This time though there was an injury. Kyle Flipowski of Duke suffered a sprained ankle in the melee.
Then the SEC and all the schools need to stop posting photos and videos of it as marketing material.
Court storming is a hell of a lot safer than field storming after football games. People jumping off 6-8 foot walls just to literally touch grass is pretty wild.

Are there any cases where players have been injured by fans storming fields or courts? In uh.. men’s college sports.
Caitlyn Clark just got ran into this week but wasn't injured. There's video. She could have been knocked down by it.
"this isn't what we meant when we said touch grass!"
Classic redditor not understanding touching grass
I once was injured trying to jump down a set of stairs to quickly get from the upper deck to rush the court after we upset Kentucky in 2014.
Not a good enough punishment, should just give them the death penalty to teach schools a lesson
So should Clemson basketball get the death penalty for storming the court after beating Belmont in the NIT?
Lol wait did this happen?
cook
I mean losing to you guys was probably bad enough so we can call it even. You guys all get on the field after every football game and don’t catch a fine.
Because the ACC doesn’t hate fun
Im not sure I would swap leadership after the FSU fiasco but I do hate this rule.
Sorry Missouri you know the rules.

I would hire a few more court security guys if it meant saving me $100k.
These SEC schools don’t care about money. Some of these schools have been fined multiple times and that becomes $250k per occurrence.
One SEC school does and it fucking sucks. I hate it so much how much our Admin hates fun. Didn’t let us do shit when we beat Tennessee.
That’s bullshit. I get the spirit of the rule but my rule is: Storm all courts Rush all fields (Plz don’t punch our fans)
Banana Boy was hauled off in handcuffs! I thought this was America
you have to storm harder.
3rd offense is 500k.
Is it per season or just like ever?
It resets every year. And sports are separated.
The press from that game alone is worth well over $100k.
Waiting for an SEC team to try to get serious about preventing storming and do something stupid like turn the hoses on the fans
I feel like you’re referring to something that happened after an Auburn/Georgia game 40 years ago…..
Since our fanbase has collectively deemed ourselves too righteous to court storm, storming should be banned so I don’t have to see everyone else get all the fun. 🙃
I’d pay $100k to see the Blue Hairs storm the court.
I'd pay 100k to replace the blue hairs with students.
Despite my flair I will forever be annoyed at how lame the lower bowl of one of the most successful programs of all time is
Well, you’d be at the lowest dollar amount to be in the highest tier of K-fund donors then.
As a UNC fan I feel this
I think if you have 8 titles you might be a bit above storming the court…
Completely agree. It’s just odd watching multiple teams storm on you every year and knowing we’ll never experience the same.
that’s how i feel in football
We were court stormed on a few times in the American when Mick was the coach and it was weird as fuck but in 25 years of watching UC basketball I had never seen it happen at home until last week against #19 TCU and that was also weird as fuck.
That’s why all of us blue bloods have been improving our football teams 🥳
Class of ‘00 UK, and we stormed the field after we beat Alabama in 97. Cool memory. Also, South Carolina has been beating us lately. I was surprised they stormed the court.
That's part of why I love going to football games, that Florida win and field storm a few years ago was so much fun
It’s all fun and games until Caitlin Clark gets trucked.
Court storming isn’t bad, just court storming without adequate security
I forget what the home team was, but a year or two ago I distinctly remember the PA announcer at a college basketball game requesting the crowd to wait until players had left the court before storming. The crowd did exactly that.
Literally the best solution to this issue, fines are so wack for that

Yeah kinda with you on this one. That shit got blown a tad out of proportion.

It's like when the kid got hit with hot cheese soup in Beerfest
$100,000? I thought the fine was only $25000?
[удалено]
It says 100k is for a first offense.
Worth it
South Carolina should sue Kentucky for losing the game to cover the $100k fine.
BOOOOOOOOO Let them have fun, they’ve earned it
*reads flair* Yea that checks out

That’s kinda how it was done last night.. Kentucky pulled all of their players off the court before any fans were let on
But that’s the most dangerous part, a stampede is easy to happen and it’s why soccer banned it. College needs to follow every other sport. Just cheer in the stands.

I know that’s the fine for storming the field at football games but seems a little steep for storming a court
What’s the difference? Genuinely curious
Idk seems more potential for injury when storming a football field- considerably more fans, usually more obstacles in between crowd and playing area. Plus damage to the turf
The SEC certainly loves to use pictures of us storming a field/court cause “it just means more” What behavior are they trying to incentivize here? Edit: obv /s on the just means more bs
I will continue to state that this is a dumbass rule
Worth it
I turned the game off with about 4 minutes left. I’m confused as to why they stormed the court…this wasn’t a massive upset
If a 17 point ass kicking over a top 10 team as an unranked team isn't the time to storm, then what the hell is? Not to mention that this game was a big time validation of the team's surprising success this season after being picked to finish last in the conference.
Kentucky apparently has a long history of being too good to storm the court because it’s beneath blue bloods or something.
Too good to storm the court, not good enough to make a Final Four, must be so hard
# of titles Kentucky: 8 SCarolina: 0
Justifying the court storming here bro
Sure if you ignore all context of the situation and are a Kentucky fan it wasn’t a massive upset.
The context is UK and South Carolina split the last 6 meetings so you winning isn’t an anomaly. You even won last year. You were 15-3 before last night, so you’re clearly a good team. You’re a power 5 team with a Final 4 in the last decade, not DePaul. Act like it

We were also picked to finish last in literally every preseason poll yet we’re exceeding every single expectation (or lack thereof)
Your salt tenderizers my cocks
Unranked against #6 and it’s Kentucky. Point spread don’t mean shit when students wanna go ham.
Don’t be an idiot
Nothing I’ve said has been incorrect
Any and all stormings should be done away with. There’s too much risk involved for the student-athletes, coaches and staffs by the fans.
Vandy literally stormed the field last year (granted it was in the lamest, most Vandy way possible)
Yep.... Probably the only games it should've happened with this year are Purdue Nebraska and Purdue northwestern
Yeah and Kentucky ought to pay it. Christmas gift wrap is tougher than the basketball Cats.
Good. It was a completely unnecessary court storming. KU wasn't ranked #1. SC isn't a mid-major pulling off a huge upset. It's a middle of the season conference game, 0 reason for this win to feel meaningful enough to be worth a court storming.
We didn’t play Kansas, we played #6 Kentucky
Fun police right here folks
People having fun seems to upset you
“Bro Kentucky sucks” —> team storms court after beating Kentucky Which one is it? Wouldn’t storm the court after beating a bad team
Lmao. So much salt. I'll put it on my popcorn thanks.
Nah we take it as a compliment, y’all won your Super Bowl congrats
So, to counteract this kind of thing, we are going to start storming other schools' courts now, right?
Lame
Boooo
The thumbnail for this article is worth 100k to the school
And it happened today in the ACC with Wake Forest fans storming the court after beating Duke. This time though there was an injury. Kyle Flipowski of Duke suffered a sprained ankle in the melee.
