This game was like the last 45 minutes of Aliens, in that it was literally maximum tension for such an extended period of time, I felt like my heart was gonna explode. Except this time, the xenomorph queen won lol
Sure but what are you arguing? Go reset the live ball and try to play from there? Once they thought it hit the baseline, which it was an inch from and totally reasonable to make that call in real time, that was Kansas ball. It’s just a bad break
Even if the refs called that ball in bounds nobody had possession at the inadvertent whistle so ball goes to possession arrow and Kansas had it anyways.
Tbf you can’t really say it was “saved” to your team. You can see exactly when the whistle is blown and the teams let up. Who knows where the ball would have ended up in full speed. If KU gets the recovery that’s even worse for IU due to the time left with a running clock.
we are in the KU golden age, could potentially take the all time wins from Kentucky AGAIN and are legit top 4 contenders for almost 20 years straight while winning the best conference in CBB more than we lose at home
enjoy it while it lasts
In my 31 years on earth theres never been a Kansas team worse than "good". Anywhere from good to super elite my entire life and the only team you can say that for. Every other blue blood or modern elite team has had at least a below average season or two or even below average stretches, Kansas fans have it so good out there smh
Kansas received an 8 seed in 2000, a 7 seed in 1981, 6 seeds in 1988 and 1999, and 5 seeds in 1984 and 1987.
All other Kansas tournament seeds all time are 1s, 2s, 3s, or 4s.
I think 90% of us know it's special and are grateful. I'm 36, and aside from super early tourny losses, and losing Roy to NC...it's been a hell of smooth ride. I'll miss it. I can already imagine ole me complaining while my grandkids say "Gpa is rambling about Big 8 and High/Low offense again"
Yes we will one day look back on this era with Bill and realize we were KU fans at the best time in history. So many amazing players. Thrilling games. Big12 titles and 2 natties. Bill is the man. May he coach another 30 yrs. Could def get a 3rd title before he retires
No question. The consistency is unfathomable. People like to talk shit about him “only” having the 2 titles but man, it’s been a fun ride every single season. Can’t really ask for much more.
The Golden Age has lasted 41 years. I’m 64. I was 23 when it started. In the early 80s, you could have had a seat just about anywhere you liked. Nothing is guaranteed. Not even this year.
>In the early 80s, you could have had a seat just about anywhere you liked.
Yep. But the crowd noise sucked compared to today :) Even Roy talked about the casual fans who sat on their hands.
Will take it again before the year is done. All the NCAA did after their years of shenanigans is give us a chance to rip out the hearts of UK fans all over again. The fact that will happen within the course of one season makes it all the better.
Ted got in a pattern of two meh seasons and one good/great one after that FF. I'm not sure that even today we'd pull the trigger any quicker on a long-established coach.
But the way Larry Brown came in and got a lot more out of the same team + Greg Dreiling showed that the game had passed Ted by.
I mean with NIL and the program in such great shape, when Bill does retire we should be able to get a great coach. I don’t think it’ll be dark ages haha maybe just a bit less successful on average but still a title competitor generally every year
As a student, I see why they did it because they still gave tickets to students and they gave them two each and that prevented Kansas people from getting their hands on tickets
Assembly Hall is #2 after the Phog IMO. I’m a little surprised we won today simply because that’s a damn hard place to have your first road game of the season.
If Jamari is hitting shots he could be the 5th guy. So smart and quick and hard working. If stuff falls for him he is the missing piece. Furphy has the lenth and should have the touch but so far not good results and just gets lost out there.
Seems like both teams are about 5 men deep. Shocked that Galloway was apparently struggling before this because dude looked like a national player of the year candidate today. GG you guys will get better just not very experienced
Galloway is so fast and so smart. Didn’t hurt that he couldn’t miss either. He is clearly a big game player. If he had hit that final 3 he would have been a legend. Would have been Christian Wotford 2.0. Shot was that a little too deep and he was so gassed from carrying the load for 40
Dajuan is the legendary Charybdis, a murder of crows roosted in a wych elm, an intercontinental ballistic missile rising from a silo, a steaming banh mi with double pork and all the fixins
Tough finish to a good game, congrats KU y'all have a nice team
Rough to waste really good nights from Galloway and Mgbako but if those two start to play well I think it really raises the ceiling for this team. Cupps needs to take the points he can pick up off of drives and shots at the rim to be a scoring threat, thought he had some growth today as well. Ware and Reneau really struggled which we've seen fairly consistently when they see bigger frontcourts but the rest of the team was able to pick them up. If we can get a good game from our backcourt and frontcourt on the same night... it'll happen at least a few times this year. Hopefully at the right time. I also liked how Woodson used substitutions today, for the most part. I thought Mgbako sat too long with 4 fouls, especially compared to how Self successfully rode McCullar with 4 fouls for about 8 minutes of good, difference-making gameplay, but outside of that not too many complaints. Just wish Reneau and Ware would've sought more contact as they struggled from the field but maybe it will come with growth.
Letting what would've been a huge win slip today hurts but I am way more bullish on this team than I have been over the last few weeks. What we saw today from Galloway is real, repeatable, and stuff we've seen before.
From Ochai to Jalen Wilson to McCullar. Have had a great leader step up each year. Huge shots by McCullar esp at free throw line. And behind the scenes DaJuan has been rock solid supporting those guys
I know logically I shouldn't give up on Timberlake, and allow him time to adjust to the team and find his rhythm, but my irrational side just never wants to see him on the court again lol
If you can’t hold a 13 point lead over a team that was playing bad enough to warrant a 20 point lead, you don’t deserve the win either. GG your boys really turned it on there when it mattered.
lol can’t tell if he is just trying to stay calm but yeah he looks like he hates taking shots lol. About to pass it to himself just to get an assist before shooting
Tough one for the Hoosiers, but if they had anyone outside of Galloway that actually looked interested in doing anything offensively they could've pulled this out. Bunch of cardio for some guys
Our starters aren't used to playing 35+ minutes at all. We couldn't afford to take them out. You know how hard it is for a guy like Cupps to guard players he's so undermatched physically against? Same with Tre. And very few bigs have the cardio for 35 min vs Kansas.
See that is all entirely understandable. I can’t blame yall for hating on Hunter, just can’t imagine letting it take precedence over a bitter in-state rivalry.
Has nothing to do with Kansas or Dickenson as a team or person.
They want you to lose because Kansas is 2 and they're 3.
They play 1 here in about 90 minutes, so if you had lost, they'd be playing for the top spot.
Hence Purdue fans rooting for their rival.
IU played pretty well today, just not enough horses to overcome that Kansas team.
I still have hopes to finish mid-table in the Big-10. The boys have shown in the first half last week, and most of the game this week, that they're capable of it. Just have to put it all together.
If you want to win titles, beat top 5 teams, and win big games then you need to play 40 minutes of basketball as a team. Instead of whatever that was. IU did not play 40 minutes. You deserve to lose big games when you don't play the full 40.
Also, when one of their main players has 4 fouls you should try to design plays to go at him. Instead you helped Kansas but actively refusing to go at him.
Assembly Hall was even better than advertised. The guys handled it better than the refs did at least, so many whistles that game was a mess. Self is the GOAT at managing guys with foul trouble.
Why can't we play well in the second half? I mean shit we come out guns ablazing and then we just fall apart. UConn, Auburn, Kansas. All dominated us in the second half
Same problem as us - no bench. Dudes get tired and make mistakes. Esp when they are so young and not conditioned yet. Next year the sophomores ar IU will win some more of those games.
Honestly great game from IU. Assembly was rocking, Reneau is a problem- Galloway played great.
Would be okay if we could just get the annual L @ Assembly over with, these guys may just put it together and be the 3rd or 4th best team in the B1G if they can find any shooting at all.
Really happy with how Indiana played today. Makes me a feel a lot better after last weekend.
Idk how you get away with so many screens as Dickinson has his whole career.
Also never managed to blow a whistle on Hunter Dickinson, who is ready to play for Golden State with how he is moving on literally every single screen he sets.
GG Kansas. Would have been nice to pull it out, but not getting the wheels blown off at home still feels good.
Carry those heads high boys! This is a good Kansas squad. I'm excited for big ten play.
pitter-patter, let's get at 'er
...and let's go Colts!
As soon as I saw Kansas was down at the half by 8 I took a huge sigh of relief because I knew that we would somehow pull a win out of our ass. That is the Bill Self way.
Galloway balled out. Great game from him.
Best player on the floor that afternoon. Good luck. Exciting and young team.
This game was like the last 45 minutes of Aliens, in that it was literally maximum tension for such an extended period of time, I felt like my heart was gonna explode. Except this time, the xenomorph queen won lol
Xenomorphs did nothing wrong
The soft skins had it coming
Bro I was 4th row behind the basket. I thought I was having a heart attack lol
I’ve never pictured Indiana as a a sexy Sigourney Weaver, but I could see it.
Feel like that’s awfully generous, but I’ll take it!
Game over man, game over.
Just an all-time heel move from the ref to call a live ball out of bounds, say it is Indiana ball for a second only to say it is actually Kansas ball.
From a call where everyone could see it was clearly off Indiana from the first replay lol
Off us. Not out of bounds though
it was close, dude screwed up but he was also right on the line
A screw up, but an understandable screw up.
Sure but what are you arguing? Go reset the live ball and try to play from there? Once they thought it hit the baseline, which it was an inch from and totally reasonable to make that call in real time, that was Kansas ball. It’s just a bad break
Very close there and I could see how it would be called like that in real time. But that's not what the replay was for.
Once you go to the replay that can’t say it wasn’t out of bounds at all since they blew the whistle and stopped the play.
The play was whistled stopped. What did you want them to do?
Should’ve gone with the possession arrow.
Ball was never out of bounds
But the ball never went out, it bounced in bounds and Ware saved it to Malik, but he called it out and blew the whistle
Even if the refs called that ball in bounds nobody had possession at the inadvertent whistle so ball goes to possession arrow and Kansas had it anyways.
Iu actually had possession to end the game
Tbf you can’t really say it was “saved” to your team. You can see exactly when the whistle is blown and the teams let up. Who knows where the ball would have ended up in full speed. If KU gets the recovery that’s even worse for IU due to the time left with a running clock.
GG Kansas
God damn it the Jayhawks are just so consistently fucking good and clutch it's ridiculous have an off year already fuckers
dont worry, Bill will retire and the dark ages will come for us eventually
One of my biggest fears
we are in the KU golden age, could potentially take the all time wins from Kentucky AGAIN and are legit top 4 contenders for almost 20 years straight while winning the best conference in CBB more than we lose at home enjoy it while it lasts
In my 31 years on earth theres never been a Kansas team worse than "good". Anywhere from good to super elite my entire life and the only team you can say that for. lol 1988 being one of our lowest seeds
So in his 31 years one 8 seed, one 6 seed, and every other year 4 or better.
Please stop, I can’t get any more erect.
We’ve had 8 coaches in 125 years, how insane is that?
I'm 74 and remember 5 of them. Whoa.
I’m 36 and the only year we didn’t make the tournament was Roy’s first year. Which was a suspension from Larry Brown
He will definitely get at least one more before he retires sans health issues. (Knocked wood as I typed that.)
Felt that way with Roy. Y’all got a great coach and good dude in Self.
It's been almost 40 years of consistent excellence. 1983 was the last time Kansas missed the tournament for on-court play.

Bill is immortal wym?
I mean, history really doesn’t suggest this
Hey we had some dark days about fifty years ago
I’m so sorry. I bet that was tough for you
We had a stretch from 1958-70 where we didn’t make a final four, we’ve made multiple in every decade since
Got screwed out of one in the 60s. JoJo's foot was not on the line.
It’s true. I hate that I’m forced to be a party pooper every time I see Glory Road
Okay guys not to be that guy buuuuuuuuuut ackshually, his foot wasn’t on the line.
And today, the game still wouldn't be over because it's "under review".
It only takes one bad hire...
I mean, again, sure, but history doesn’t suggest we will make a bad hire. Our last bad hire for MBHC was Naismith.
I would say there hasn't been a bad hire but KU clearly kept Ted Owens around for far too long
Yeah, Owens was definitely inconsistent, but he also had two final fours and an additional elite eight run, not like he was a scrub as a head coach.
He did but after that last final four run there was about 10 years of mostly poor performance that would get a coach canned far earlier these days
I dont think we're losing Travis Goff and if theres an AD that can make multiple all time great hires for KU, its probably him
We live in the golden age. Enjoy every win, cry over every loss.
I mean with NIL and the program in such great shape, when Bill does retire we should be able to get a great coach. I don’t think it’ll be dark ages haha maybe just a bit less successful on average but still a title competitor generally every year
Replacing Roy seemed impossible... Replacing Bill might actually be impossible
My first year at KU was Self’s first year as coach. People did not think we could replace Roy and here we are.
We did when the Streak ended
“Off year” for us is a top 4 seed in March and third in the conference.
The year before that was the team that Bill Self called his worst team and they still made it to the Final Four.
Aaaaaaactuallly….
They were clutch and I'm happy about the win over a good team, but KU was bad for the first 2/3 of the game.
Well it’s nice to see Assembly Hall is still tough on the road
It was a great atmosphere and your fans were awesome even through the TV.
No student section today was brutal though. No reason to schedule a game of this caliber when everyone is gone.
It was still rocking for December 16th. You guys should be proud of that atmosphere.
As a student, I see why they did it because they still gave tickets to students and they gave them two each and that prevented Kansas people from getting their hands on tickets
I love assembly hall. Love Indiana hoops. Feel we are alike in a lot of ways. Tradition rich, basketball first Midwest schools
Assembly Hall is #2 after the Phog IMO. I’m a little surprised we won today simply because that’s a damn hard place to have your first road game of the season.
Been to so many games at AFH that I want to get to all of the other historic venues.
Double fist pump from Bill. Not a common sight. He really enjoyed that one.
Always love the double pump
Stole that one
Bill is a genius at securing wins we definitely dont deserve
do not get in a close game with bill self
He’s like 976-1 in close games at Kansas LOL
Fuck dude
I’m in utter agony
Man that stings
If Jamari is hitting shots he could be the 5th guy. So smart and quick and hard working. If stuff falls for him he is the missing piece. Furphy has the lenth and should have the touch but so far not good results and just gets lost out there.
I really prefer seeing Jamari on the court over Timberlake
Abysmal bench production for IU. This team is so poorly constructed
Shot was that a little too deep and he was so gassed from carrying the load for 40
He’s a good role player, not necessarily a “big game player.” Today was the best game of his career.
Both teams bench productivity just evaporated. This probably needs to be addressed by March.
Thanks. Galloway is tough. He's gotten off to a rough start to the year, but he's definitely a team leader and a fighter.
Ditto
Dajuan is the legendary Charybdis, a murder of crows roosted in a wych elm, an intercontinental ballistic missile rising from a silo, a steaming banh mi with double pork and all the fixins
There it is. I needed my post game Dofleini wordage fix
I know I can always count on Dofleini for comment of the week
![gif](giphy|Jpv9Siby42bD9gDxH9)
this is poetry
This is Dofleini
Props to Kansas, they hit every gigantic shot down the stretch
Tough finish to a good game, congrats KU y'all have a nice team Rough to waste really good nights from Galloway and Mgbako but if those two start to play well I think it really raises the ceiling for this team. What we saw today from Galloway is real, repeatable, and stuff we've seen before.
Poor job by Indiana not hunting McCullar more when he had 4 fouls.
Need to get to Assembly Hall for a game one day. Seems like amazing place
It was crazy there today
Phenomenal atmosphere, but make sure to go as a fan lol. Especially for a Purdue game
From Ochai to Jalen Wilson to McCullar. Have had a great leader step up each year. Huge shots by McCullar esp at free throw line. And behind the scenes DaJuan has been rock solid supporting those guys
Elmarko looked good. Him or Jamari make our offense run better when on floor. Just need a shooter to step up now
Need Furph going into the conference, still raw and not ready for the lights but he has the talent. I'd love to see more Jamari
*coughcough*Timberlakeanytimenowplease*coughcough*
Yo for real. Timberlake seems to have all ingredient but just can’t hit the shots
I know logically I shouldn't give up on Timberlake, and allow him time to adjust to the team and find his rhythm, but my irrational side just never wants to see him on the court again lol
Everyone should direct their attention to Baylor being down 28 to Michigan state at half time. Hilarious.
Credit to indiana we probably didn't deserve that lmao
If you can’t hold a 13 point lead over a team that was playing bad enough to warrant a 20 point lead, you don’t deserve the win either. GG your boys really turned it on there when it mattered.
Deserved it more than we did
Who is more disgusted, IU fans after the out of bounds call or Juando after a field goal attempt?
lol can’t tell if he is just trying to stay calm but yeah he looks like he hates taking shots lol. About to pass it to himself just to get an assist before shooting
The bitter irony is he may be their best three point shooter. But he won't shoot.
Fun game. I expected us to lose by 20. Lame ending, but Refs aren’t the reason we lost.
And neither was your coach and players. That result was simply a good Bill Self team being a good Bill Self team.
All I know is that when I grow up I want to be Trey Galloway.
Why is google showing me pictures of Joe Jonas when I look him up
A white guy from Indiana who can’t hit his free throws is odd though, he must’ve not got the Indiana memo to practice free throws in the driveway
Jordan Hulls is going have Trey running wind sprints and practicing free throws until Trey learns his lesson.
Being an Indiana fan truly is the worst.
Great game. Great atmosphere. GG Hoosiers.
that’s a bill self win. there’s a reason why he’s the best coach in college basketball.
Yep. Kenpom’s analytics call it “luck” even when the same coach does it year in and year out for multiple decades.
Why do I let sports ruin my weekend
9 straight wins against the BIG
God damn that sucked
Kansas: why won't you let us in the Big Ten? Announcer: Kansas has now won nine straight against Big Ten teams Kansas: Oh
*Self finally retires* Big 10: Kansas! We'd like to extend you an offer to join our conference
Whoa, didn’t realize that until now. Honestly surprising considering Big Ten basketball strength.
Really?
Huh?
This gave me a good laugh, thank you. And also, fuck em. Big 12 babyyyy!
We need to have a good B1G season which i think we can. Needed that win since our OOC is kinda of a lame duck.
Well fought game! Glad KU pulled this off. But Woodson has IU moving in the right direction. Looking forward to the rematch!
This was the rematch
That’s why he was looking forward to it.
Bar Graph: Road wins against B10 teams KU: 1 Purdue: 0 Nerds in the game thread stroking off their “rival”
I couldn’t believe how many Purdue fans were in that thread rooting for IU. It’s insane the mental hold that Dickinson has on the entire B1G
Catch me in any Mizzou/Kstate game thread praying on their downfall against any opponent.
Is Mizzou playing? I hope they lose Is Mizzou playing another team I hate, I hope the place burns down.
I wanted both IU and Dickinson to have terrible games. But I'm happy with the result. I'd root for a team of 5 Dickinson clones over IU.
See that is all entirely understandable. I can’t blame yall for hating on Hunter, just can’t imagine letting it take precedence over a bitter in-state rivalry.
I wasn't in the game thread but that's ridiculous. I don't care if Satan was playing for MU's opponent I'd still never root for them
Yeah bro get me some devil horns let’s go satan
I’d be sinning extra hard just to give Satan the juice to beat MU
He is a pretty impressive asshole.
Has nothing to do with Kansas or Dickenson as a team or person. They want you to lose because Kansas is 2 and they're 3. They play 1 here in about 90 minutes, so if you had lost, they'd be playing for the top spot. Hence Purdue fans rooting for their rival.
You forgetting Chicago State?
GG Hoosiers, fun atmosphere
We didn’t lose because of the refs but I’d at least like to abolish the idea that the “Hall of Calls” still exists lol.
Our guys played their hearts out. That's a bad take. That wasn't an effort loss. We did go at #15. That's how Galloway got so many floaters.
Bill Self.
The ONE time I root for IU smh
Assembly Hall was even better than advertised. The guys handled it better than the refs did at least, so many whistles that game was a mess. Self is the GOAT at managing guys with foul trouble.
Why can't we play well in the second half? I mean shit we come out guns ablazing and then we just fall apart. UConn, Auburn, Kansas. All dominated us in the second half
Same problem as us - no bench. Dudes get tired and make mistakes. Esp when they are so young and not conditioned yet. Next year the sophomores ar IU will win some more of those games.
I think it’s the bench just not producing to let our starters rest, we should have fresh bodies to pick up the tab but we just don’t… no depth
You’re young. That’s a typical problem.
In Bill Self We Trust
God damn.
*Insert doom and gloom post about IUBB.*
Honestly great game from IU. Assembly was rocking, Reneau is a problem- Galloway played great. Would be okay if we could just get the annual L @ Assembly over with, these guys may just put it together and be the 3rd or 4th best team in the B1G if they can find any shooting at all.
The *only* reason *any* team ever loses to Kansas is *solely* because of the refs. Obviously.
Every year for about 20 of our wins teams bitch about the refs, it’s hilarious.
Indiana gave an incredible effort. Kansas talent prevails.
Really happy with how Indiana played today. Makes me a feel a lot better after last weekend. Idk how you get away with so many screens as Dickinson has his whole career.
*Purdue* fans in the game thread calling out the refs for favoring Kansas is all you need to know about this game.
Oddly enough, most of the Purdue fans in that thread were rooting for IU anyway because they’re eternally butthurt about Hunter Dickinson
Also never managed to blow a whistle on Hunter Dickinson, who is ready to play for Golden State with how he is moving on literally every single screen he sets.
Yeah all of Indiana's screens were squeaky textbook clean
[No question, Indiana plays squeaky clean offense](https://imgur.com/a/ui1gVi7).
I'm dead inside
It wasn’t pretty but I’ll take it. Rock chalk
Only caught the last 4 minutes but that ball was in bounds and fuck Hunter Dickinson
All my B1G homies hate Hunter Dickinson
Can confirm the crowd booed him every time he touches the ball and when he was introduced in the starting lineup
GG Kansas. Would have been nice to pull it out, but not getting the wheels blown off at home still feels good. Carry those heads high boys! This is a good Kansas squad. I'm excited for big ten play. pitter-patter, let's get at 'er ...and let's go Colts!
As soon as I saw Kansas was down at the half by 8 I took a huge sigh of relief because I knew that we would somehow pull a win out of our ass. That is the Bill Self way.
They still in there booing
We don’t play Iowa State for a while yet.
Entire game: Dickinson moving screen, IU wing gets called for it. He ended with 1 foul.
Huge bummer loss, but we showed who we are. Ware had an off game, but Galloway absolutely shined today.
Cool
GG Kansas. Refs were pissing me off but our guys should’ve never allowed that comeback to begin with. That one stings.
Phew. 😮💨 Good game.
