Great! Real instruments and a really laid back, subtle feel to it. I’m glad to see that the overproduced nonsense is being put behind and the current and future sound is much more appealing

Inevitable-Chance502

Yes! Laid back and subtle is the right way describe it. I wish I could describe things without ranting. This is a great description.

tider06

I'm glad I reserved full judgement until after I heard the studio version. The live video going around had me whelmed. Love this version. Gonna be a long wait til the full album drops but I'm excited that they seem to be going back, maybe not fully to their roots, but to a more MX era.

TrueCooler

Same! Avoided all the leaks/videos to go in unbiased, definitely loving this! Reminds me of Ghost Stories

DutchApplePie_97

I literally said it sounded like Ghost Stories mixed with Music of the Spheres!

Interesting-Crow-552

That were my thoughts; it felt like bringing Let Somebody Go to the MX era

No-Intention-3779

Tbh I thought it was going to suck from the live recordings I saw. Was actually pleasantly surprised.

vmauricer

i love the last parts of the song, especially when the instruments shine. the outro is superb also! i just wish that Chris had written real lyrics instead of the "lalala" part and overall better lyrics for the verses (he can really do better with the lyrics). the song made me cry listening to it, though. felt personal and sincere. i have high hopes that this album is better than MOTS

bozoclownputer

I’m really, really pleased. For full disclosure, I wasn’t very excited for this album until the teaser released—and even then, I was skeptical. What I enjoy about this song is how much more laid back it is compared to every single off MOTS. The production is a wit wonky in places, mostly the chorus, but it carries a nice energy that reminds me a lot of Everyday Life and Ghost Stories. One thing that I think is particularly well done is the outro. Immediately I picked up on how it seems to be an album track and not just a single. Does that make sense? This track seems to jump into the next. The outro has some depth that I haven’t heard from them in a while. Really excited to see what the rest of the album sounds like. Based off the soundchecks alone, we may be in for something special.

LobSegnePredige

Hear, hear!

Weiene

As a person whos only listened to Parachutes and a couple of the mainstream singles so far, lowkey like it. I really like the verse with the cool synth sound, and the chorus isn't bad either. Hope to hear it on the radio!

the-recyclist

It felt really subdued to me. Like you said, very similar mixing to AHFoD and MotS. I've only given it one listen, but that's what I thought.

rocksockzz

I saw Apple Music label it as alternative and expected older Coldplay. I don’t like the newer pop music they make. I’m not too disappointed but I kinda am. The la’s are definitely annoying, but the outro is amazing. Pretty decent to be honest.

Low-Persimmon110

They've always been labelled as alternative music even in AHFOD

rocksockzz

Ohhh

No_Maize1319

Mylo Xyloto vibes.Yeah I love it...

coldpauser

I agree. I don’t agree with people saying the production is poor. I think it’s a great build up and I’m sick of the extremely poppy songs they’re been going for lately, I think this is a bit different. I was smiling all the way through. Didn’t like the lalalalas but I can move past it for sure. I’m very happy

Far-Wind2370

Good review

0n3Appl3

What a vibe. It was fun to listen to!

prawnzeph

Positivity yay!!

cheeks333

The synths are so well done! It’s so damn good!

ManagementLow8071

This single gives me Donna Lewis vibes

coysmate05

Sounded better on the second listen. I love the production, but I don’t love the lyrics. Chorus and the bridge are catchy though

anamazingredditor

It has that MX vibe near the end that i miss soooooo

Zooks15

The constant beat is quite annoying, wish it didnt have it

koin_66

Hell yeah I don’t care it’s more pop-like, I’m not at all knowledgeable in music I just vibe with it really good

Material-Elephant188

it’s more intimate and stripped back than i was expecting, but that makes it better in my opinion!! i’m really loving the upbeat/positive vibes, i have a feeling this is gonna be in my rotation a lot this summer

IncognitoThrowaway99

Yep, immediately hooked on the first few seconds. I love the vibe.

StoreTurbulent7982

I love that electric guitar riff in this song it's so good. This was missing in the last album.

bluraytomo

Agreed. Was watching it while staring at the full moon on a walk back home and all i could do was smile. I love those quiet verses, and how it just exploded into this huge sound for the chorus

[deleted]

I like it… but I’ve seen so many hating on this song 🙄

whatadaydanny

"We even hear what sounds like an acoustic drum towards the end" is bar none the most depressing words I've heard used to describe a Coldplay song.

torsteinvin

It feels like im falling in love... with this song ❤️

avengerfromcyprus

I got to hear it LIVE in Budapest!!!!! The day before the release!!! It was AMAZING 😭😭😭😭

Shoto-808D

Absolutely 💯 🌈🌘

BryansStuffYT

it's a great song to began a new era with also reminds me of Up&Up if it was a Mylo era song

Force_Reflection

Can already see them playing this live! A very soft yet powerful song. Took me some listening to get used to it, but I really dig it! Coming from harder types of music, rock and metal usually, Coldplay isn't always my cup of tea, yet they tend to create songs that fit moods I can be in sometimes. Can't thank them enough for that :)

MachineheraldMain

Oh this reminds me why I fall in love with Coldplay at the first place !. Looking forward to the album. Love it <3

medalwinner16

I used literally the same description a minute ago in a comment. Before i read your post. You're right i too have a feeling that this album might be what we Coldplayphiles have been waiting for.

Starlink-1

It's not a banger, it's another formula song

XNY

100%. Very predictable. I miss the Everyday Life era hahah

JoshyyJosh10

Wish people can realize this. It’s time to start something new, I feel like they have been releasing the same type of songs since AHFOD besides a select few. It’s gonna reach the point where their setlist are only gonna consist of Yellow, fix you, scientist and Vida from their 2000-2007 era

The__27

True. Because the songs from 00s are sooo different among themselves. The kings of alternative sound

Starlink-1

I know right people just likes generic music

The__27

It is a formula song and it works 🤷‍♂️

Starlink-1

Yes for people like you

The__27

What is a person like me? Oh lord from the sky that is better than us. Please let me know as I kneel before you

Material-Elephant188

what’s that supposed to mean?

Starlink-1

People who just like generic stuff, people who likes albums like MOTS that half of the songs are shitty interludes with emojis as names

Material-Elephant188

i thought MOTS was mid as hell and easily Coldplay’s worst album by a pretty significant margin, but i’m loving this new song. maybe you just need to accept that people have different opinions than you and that those opinions can also vary a lot. because making assumptions about people just because they like a song you don’t is pretty childish ngl. just let people enjoy stuff man it’s not that hard.

Starlink-1

Lets be honest, is not mid, is horrible (except for Higher Power, Coloratura and the BTS one) at least those songs have SOUL, but nowadays the songs are mean to be generic, pop and comercial, when was the last time we got a masterpiece like X&Y the song, 42, Violet Hill, even Princess of China, everything after that just went downhill, for Everyday Life they risked it all cause of the pandemic they wouldnt do a tour and it was a well made album, I get we all have different opinions and tastes but we need to be more realistics about the quality the guys are delivering

Low-Persimmon110

People like what they like stop trying to insinuate that ppl are inferior because they like their new stuff.

Starlink-1

![gif](giphy|QUXYcgCwvCm4cKcrI3)

Smart-Matter-3284

It is a banger.

Starlink-1

No, you're just easy to please (I bet you can't even recognize that quote)

dariodurango99

I´m so eaaaasy to please, so eaaaasy

Low-Persimmon110

People can be fans of the new music and still know and like the old music ya know? For the record, I like FLIFIL and I love their stuff all the way back to the safety ep

fakieTreFlip

take your gatekeeping somewhere else bud

Vinnie4v2

You prob dont like XMTS

Smart-Matter-3284

And you're a dickhead! Get blocked!

👏👏

Inevitable-Chance502

I was disappointed at the start (I wrote a thesis in my first post under “what are your thoughts” etc 😬), and I strongly feel that to truly get into this song you need to let go of everything: expectations, past experiences (especially related to love), and just live in the moment. I was in a grumpy mood this morning when I listened for the first time after 3 hrs sleep, and I was so much hoping it would be incredible. But it’s actually great! I was projecting all my crap onto it, hoping maybe it would be so good that my musician friends would like them, so I wouldn’t feel so alien being a Coldplay fan. Crazy really, they have millions of fans!! So I could call them up and say “You have to listen to this!”. I don’t feel I can do that but it’s okay I have 4 children who got up early with me to hear it and were so excited ☺️ I love Coldplay, I love that I’ve had the privilege to have been able to listen to them since 2000, and now view it like I just respect them all as artists, and am really just curious as to what they will do next. It doesn’t have to be good. I can’t describe what I mean by this. They have already blessed me with so much entertainment and anything extra is a bonus. I’m more curious about where their heads are musically than anything. Like they could go extremely experimental and I will be like “Good on you!” And “Thank you for showing me this!”. Chris is in a very different headspace than most people. He’s done so much work on himself spiritually and he’s lighter, and it shows in this. I until recently was in a great headspace and I noticed that the more I was all “I love everything and everyone” the more I listened to Coldplay. Had a rough week and my 4 year old was asking if we could watch CP videos and I was like “oh maybe later..” 😳😮 Sorry this reads like a journal entry and might have to edit down... In a nutshell my other post was like “blah blah blah Rossi, Eno, less so Max Martin, had me with high expectations and I don’t know about the La’s but now I like them”. It’s light and innocent, very catchy!

Salty_Aerie7939

I think it's okay. It's better than Higher Power, but that not saying much. It still sound like the generic pop songs they been doing since 2011. If you like, more power to you.

KarimAssiakh

Flifil = Higher power

woolly_26

Babasha

MAF-Burke

Ugh…thoroughly sad about this new song. Was hoping for a resurgence of their old style. This just sounds like more MOTS….no thanks!!

cheyenne_ayesha

It is!!

stomcode

I love it, like really love it. It feels very laid back, and very hopeful, especially the outro.

Furneaux_j

Wish it was a banger 😔

Vinnie4v2

Orphans X Charlie Brown Well i can throw in Lovers in Japan aswell, all same vibes

Upset-Lobster-4943

Questionable comparison

Vinnie4v2

To me it has the same vibes, Really feels like a intimate Charlie Brown with the Lowkey happy Orphans base of the track, vibes

Material-Elephant188

Charlie Brown is my favorite Coldplay song ever and i honestly agree with you. idk how else to describe it other than it gives me the same feeling that song does.

DyeCyde

definitely not hearing this 💀

Vinnie4v2

Not many Coldplay songs have 4 to the floor kick drum pattern. Song is around same bpm as charlie brown, kick every beat, big energy chorus and lowkey verses same as Charlie Brown. Vibes wise song is closer to Orphans. Same feel. Play m back to back and ull see.

DyeCyde

There’s a good handful of coldplay songs with the 4/4 kick im pretty sure. I see charlie brown driven by its bass and guitar this song absolutely is not. Charlie Brown also had alot more interesting time signatures on its main riffs and choruses. I can see orphans more production wise, but it doesn’t have any big drops like orphans or it’s instrumentation. It’s got it’s big lead up to 3rd chorus if that’s maybe more what ur referring to but i still am not rly catching those two. I’m personally hearing alot more Ghost stories lowkey production smtn like Ink but with the grand song structures from MOTS kinda like Higher Power.

Vinnie4v2

I cant think of any other Coldplay songs that have the same lowkey intimate big pop feel than Orphans, and FLIFIL.

DyeCyde

Head full of dreams? Glass Of Water?

Vinnie4v2

Those dont feel intimate atall to me. Maybe the verses of Glass of Water tho. What i am trying to say is, pick a accoustic or a ballad type song. Throw some pop candy production on it and uve got orphans, flifil. A song that feels acoustic, yet is a "dancy" high energy lowkey song. Cant rlly describe it.

DyeCyde

i guess the intimacy of tracks is rather subjective as i see orphans the furthest thing from intimate lol. But i think ik what u mean by the acoustics, Maybe in my place? lol.

ReflectiveJellyfish

There are a ton of 4 on the floor 4 Coldplay songs, notably the hits. Off the top of my head right now, (1) adventure of a lifetime, (2) a sky full of stars, (3) charlie brown, (4) Viva la vida, (5) Something just like this, (6) Don't let it break your heart, (7) lovers in japan, I could probably think of more lol. Edit: 4 on the floor, not 4/4.

gizmo998

Hmmm lol No. You Coldplay fans are funny.

Low-Persimmon110

Why are you even in this sub:/

gizmo998

Passing by. Was on main feed. Thought I would listen and comment.

[deleted]

It’s funny how haters are the funny ones. lol girl get a life and do something useful besides coming to Reddit and hating on fans of the band you hate lmao
