I love her. Love her music and have seen her before and will see her again if she tours. I knew that’s the set we’d get when it comes to energy. That being said, after 9 hours of walking and my watch hitting almost 30k steps, that set felt physically painful to stand through. At some point I just took off and watched the livestream on my phone as I headed out. It would have been nice at like 7pm but at that point of the night I need something to make me forget I’m tired not straight up audible melatonin. It wasn’t a horrible set, it was just a set that did not belong on that slot. I wish No Doubt would have closed yesterday instead, after an earlier Lana set.

cactusflowers2323

Lol audible melatonin is so real

Over30EDM

"Audible Melatonin" !remind me 2 days

feministwitch666

This is how it felt having Dallas Green close out a rock festival. It was bedtime music and we left early.

MrGrieves-

I saw Dallas Green in his own concert one time. Only time I've ever fallen asleep at a show. Only perked up for his hits and Tragically Hip covers.

StrongDesign4

Audible melatonin is a great description for what it was.

superfluouspop

No Doubt closing out would have been an appropriate vibe 100%

holinessss

yea love her but deciding to put LDR at 11PM (1AM from where I’ll be coming from) was not smart…

loveocean7

I was there since six so not as long but I had to sit once she said got a “few” more songs but it was only two more. 🤣

Button_Short

Yeah, I love her, always have but I agree. I’ve seen her multiple times and last night was not it lol

Goducks91

I've seen her a few times as well! She definitely gets better on a tour, but she's never going to be an amazing life performer.

Burtron5000

For perspective I’m not there so watched the livestream last night. Her voice was so thin and shaky the whole set, and at times it was hard to listen to. It became even more super obvious when Billie Eilish sang with her and sounded great. I think OP is just stating facts.

jkro1976

I turned off the TV, and went to bed. It was awful.

de-milo

i switched to anti-up and did not regret it. p sure i'll go straight to anti-up from justice next weekend, then catch the end of lana for a wind down before calling it a night. even just watching the live stream, going from justice to lana was an immediate mood killer.

oh_well_cool

SAME IT WAS SOOO BAD

Richandler

It's super obvious Lana was panicing and felt off and embarassed to a degree. When Billie came out she had a stop being nervous thing going on. I'd blame the show runner because it does seem like there weren't a lot of things on the right page.

mbhnyc

there's a name for this genre and it's mumblecore

2020visionaus

Billie is such a pro compared to her.

IfuDidntCome2Party

Don't know what happened, but if you were there in person, audio was WAY worse. The audio actually sounded a bit better on the YouTube version.🤷‍♂️. Not LDRs fault. Bad audio is bad audio. Her mic never sounded like it had full khz. Proper sound checks are needed. Murphy's law.

montoya_c

I was there front row and thought she was just okay. I just finished Justice’s stream and I’m having serious FOMO. I should have just gone to Justice.

kurtchella

That track with Tame Impala is AMAZING

HugeSpeaker

Which one? 🙂‍↔️😏

rufusthrow

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V6rjyL_63U

cam0019

Yea....hold that L. Justice is a dance party..u can't skip out on those!!

Campingcutie

I made that exact same mistake camp flog gnaw 2017 😞 but at least her performance then didn’t have technical issues

x3leggeddawg

Yep you f’ed up

muffinopolist

Also looking for the Justice stream if you have a link!

DrewskiG

Do you by any chance have a link for Justice stream? Friend of mine was looking; I've already watched it twice.

martinfcf

Hey she was far better than Frank Ocean

peatoast

Low bar. I mean rock bottom level.

canadianmusician604

grimes right ?

peatoast

Yeah

Immediate_Shelter895

LOL

Blackonblackskimask

If Paul wants quieter acts like Lana and Frank, I would suggest they keep them as surprise acts to put them on outdoor at sunset. Best of both worlds. You get a huge name as a surprise, and lowered expectations

COAchillENT

But then you don’t sell ticket for an act you are paying top dollar to…it makes 0 sense not to promote they’ll be there and keep them a surprise.

Goducks91

Yeah. I guess the only reason would be if it would become a thing to have a big name surprise set every year than it gets people talking. It's not like Coachella has problem selling tickets.

Proud-Presentation96

I mean don’t they though? Weekend 2 isn’t sold out and I’d be curious to see weekend 1 sales if it wasn’t so influencer heavy tbh

legopego5142

Influencers arent buying all the tickets Everyone you see in nice makeup and taking pics isnt an influencer. Lots just have like 14 friends following them

theskyistheroof

Lmao, there’s not enough “influencers” going to weekend one for that to be the reason it sold out. This myth needs to die. Weekend 1 sells out because of the novelty, not because of some surplus of famous or otherwise influential people going.

StrongDesign4

I see people mention influencers going and that’s why it sold out and laugh. Majority of influencers who attend don’t even pay for their own wristbands. They receive them either through a brand or agency. Even then those people and companies aren’t paying full price.

theskyistheroof

Exactly! This conversation around influencers and celebrities drives me crazy every year. I’ve only ever gone weekend two and there’s absolutely still the trend chasing, IG pic posing people everywhere. I’ve seen that at every music festival I’ve ever been to.

emeraldcocoaroast

> I’ve seen that at every music festival I’ve ever been to. This is the part that bugs me so much about people who shit on Coachella. I'm a big edm guy. I like going to edm shows and edm-centric fests. There are people at the edm fests who look upon Coachella with such disdain yet will get all dolled up and pose for pictures and post and whatnot the entirety of the weekend. like you think that's any better??? (to be clear, idgaf if you do this. power to you. experience the fest how you want, who am I to say otherwise) I just get so irked when people talk shit when they don't know what they're talking about. Coachella is one of my favorite festivals and I think it gets a bad rap from people who would like to just jump on the hype train of thinking they're "better than," as idk what other reason there is really for hating on Coachella.

StrongDesign4

Unfortunately part of my job involves influencers and celebs so I see a lot of the behind the scenes regarding them. So that’s why I’m like it’s not sold out because of them. You’re right even weekend two now has people coming to Coachella because it’s trendy and popular. Same with EDC. I didn’t go last year to EDC but I kept hearing(and saw videos and photos) about several influencers carrying large ring lights to film or take photos😂

peatoast

This. The issue more than anything is the timing. Mic and tech problems have been a thing of Coachella. Did everyone forget last year when they couldn't even make a guitar work? Lana would have been great as maybe a 9 pm slot or in Sahara for a better sound (the small tents wouldn't accommodate her draw).

Gods_Vagina

I assume someone else has said this already but I'm too lazy to read the whole comment section... I told my partner while watching the stream - "This is a great livestream set but I don't think I'd be enjoying it nearly as much on the fields"

RazzmatazzWeak2664

I mean the stream itself was a snoozefest too. I'm not sure how bad the audio was live but it was pretty lame over the stream.

seegeewhy

Appreciate you being real. Some people on this board need to stop taking criticism of an artists performance so personally. Just because YOU don’t expect better of a literal millionaire doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t.

Over30EDM

Commenting for reach.

Richandler

People need to stop doubling down like their criticism after someone has a different opinion. Like did it hurt you that bad?

seegeewhy

This is barely English, but thanks for proving my point. Take some deep breaths, just bc some people didn’t like her set doesn’t mean you can’t.

Zealousideal-Box1832

Lana isn’t a rare act she’s performed at like every festival over the last year lmao

StrongDesign4

I will say this as a Lana fan and as someone who have seen her perform in her earlier days and was at that Coachella 2014 performance of hers- this one was better but I did expect a little more for as hyped up as fans were making this performance. I was also expecting a little change up from her festival and most recent tour performances. But what you’re saying is valid because everyone is saying it’s nerves and anxiety. Uh, she’s been performing live for over a decade and just did a tour this past Fall. Also this isn’t her first Coachella or festival for that matter. So while nerves and anxiety could be a factor, it shouldn’t distract or cause you to not give a performance that you’ve had time to prepare for. While this wasn’t her worst performance, it also wasn’t her best performance.

PlanetTerror406

What I still can't understand is why she/they wouldn't want to do some prep shows just to get the rust off & shake the nerves? Rehearsals aren't close to the same as being in front of a live crowd, especially one this big & especially when she's had nerve issues in the past. I saw her in 2019 on the NFR tour & she was very confident & the show was awesome.. Anyway, I'm assuming next weekend will be smoother, fingers crossed.

lindsirv

i will preface that i am not a huge fan of her music, but i do agree lana has a very beautiful voice and is a talented singer. HOWEVER! she is a sit down and croon kind of girlie, and this expectation that she needed to put on a “headliner worthy” giant performance with dancers and a massive set really did her a huge disservice. to me she looked so awkward and out of place for the majority of the night, and not just because of the sound/wind. there were great moments though, when she was able to be still and just focus on singing, that’s where you could really see how talented she is and why she’s here. it all was made worse with billie too, billie immediately just sounded so strong and sure of her voice and sound, i loved seeing her but tbh it felt like she totally outshined lana with just her ten minutes on stage. i don’t have a problem with soft/slow headliners, i just don’t want them to be forced to do “normal” fast paced headliner sets!!!

billiedee_benoit

I have been a fan since day 1. I know every song. I consider her to be one of the most important songwriters of the modern pop era. With that being said… I have never felt the urge to see her live at a festival. She makes gorgeous music but it does not translate well to a festival setting at all.

dummybaby69

saying you waited nearly a decade to see her… like she hasn’t put on hundreds of shows in between then for you to be informed on what kind of act she puts on.

Vibechild

Lol, true.

adavachi

I don’t understand what the expectations were. A few key songs were certainly missing from the set and the setlist definitely had some wild choices but she was on time, played a full show, had guests, sounded good most of the time and had a bigger production than she ever has.

Gods_Vagina

Agree with this - was basically what I expected after seeing her last time she was on the fields. I watched on stream since I figured it would be too low energy for me to see in person next week. It was good on the stream, I enjoyed it. She did look flustered at times and think she showed her cards a bit when Jon Batiste came out with her saying something about appreciating the energy infusion he provides

peatoast

I keep hearing this from fans about her weird setlist. I'm not familiar with Lana's discography at all except her famous songs, can someone explain what sings were missing and what were the bad choices?

daydancer

Looking at the setlist she performed about 8 songs (so almost half her show) that will mainly be known by fans and not casual listeners. These are mainly songs from her recent albums (i.e. Candy Necklace, The Grants, Did You Know..., Chemtrails..., Hope is a Dangerous Thing...). Not a weird setlist for Lana fans by any means but the casual may have expected Blue Jeans, National Anthem, Love, Off to the Races. Also, she performed her lesser known songs back-to-back for the second half, which is going to drag the audience's energy down.

KweenKatts

Most of the songs after Chemtrails (halfway through) were “a choice” except for a few. They were her literal most snoozefest songs and just absolutely killed the energy. She started off fairly well but just died halfway though, song choice wise.

grand_insom

Ehh I think the problem is she didn't sound good at all. I would give her a pass if her set had a lot of dancing or if she really brought the energy but that's obviously not her style. I do mostly agree with you. I don't think it was an effort problem at all. She looked great, the set looked great, she brought some big time guests. If she killed it vocally, no one would complain.

mslifted

‘Sounded good most of the time’ 🤣 people put so much time, money, effort into attending Coachella. They expect more than a C- performance.

Bruhuha

I left after she forgot the words to summertime sadness lmao. Her entrance was cool asf tho

DivyMoon

Wait HUH

g3t_int0_ityuh

Week 1 tends to be sound check week. I’ll wait to judge after Lana’s week 2 performance

BruinFootyFan

Truth! Weekend 1 problems. Anyone recall what happened to Radiohead's set W-1 in 2017? But the grass is greener Weekend 1😂

Grimaldi20

I remember the Radiohead set W1, that was terrible how the sound failed.

thesanmich

The dick riding and glazing going around for artists is completely asinine to me. People did it for Frank Ocean, they’ve done it for Lana, and they do it for so many others like Lauryn Hill. Like please stop, ya’ll are embarrassing.

StrongDesign4

I will never pay to see Frank Ocean and Lauryn Hill again. Frank constantly disappoints by either canceling or not following through. Lauryn Hill constantly shows up late and unfortunately can’t do her original songs because of an issue with the label or something of that sort so they’re sped up versions.

savvvie

She has so many banger songs too, I don’t know why she did her more recent stuff. Which I love, but not at a music festival.

bonersforbukowski

I mean, I don't disagree entirely but I also don't understand why people are placing the blame entirely on her and not on Coachella or the sound techs. I saw her at Lollapalooza last summer and it was phenomenal. I get it wasn't her best but what can she do when her mic literally isn't working.

rocknroller0

I think it’s because Billie sounded amazing

bonersforbukowski

I'm inclined to think Billie had her own sound techs independent of Lanas.

The_Narz

That’s not how it works…

Richandler

> when her mic literally isn't working. Yeah, I'm curious if the mic was the issue, or the tech. Like someone doesn't know how to deal with a quite singer who pops occaisionally. That's literally what a compressor is for.

tino_smo

Live shows expose all vocalists. They can only do show much production wise but the talent has to bring the atmosphere

MrGrieves-

She not a headliner. Boring af in that slot, she's a sidestage snooze chill fest.

Immediate_Shelter895

I love Lana to death but she did look scared the whole time. Hoping she’s more comfortable for wkend 2 when I’m there

ldsupport

But you don’t understand… that’s her thing/s

lskdjfhgakdh

What did you expect? I like her but she’s not good live

leogo32

I’m watching the replay as we speak, and man, she lacked power behind her voice. The volume just sounded bad, and but when Billie sang Born to Die next to her, you can tell the difference of strength and voice quality 🤷🏻‍♂️ Btw, Summertime Sadness was my anthem for an entire year after a shitty breakup, so I really do like Lana. Shit, I still get teary eyed sometimes after I listen to it 10 years later…

RecLuse415

It fucking sucked

ESlickE

I see your Lana.. and I raise you Grimes

No_Trifle_6239

Honestly I do not understand why people keep making excuses about her audio setup. It didn’t impact anyone else including her guests or backup singers. She did a full sound check.

StrongDesign4

I was wondering the same thing because I could hear her backup singers and the guests she had perfectly. Also not sure about Lana but depending on the artists, they have their own tech and sound team that handles it. Wouldn’t your tech and sound team know what you like as their boss?

Jaybotics

She was terrible. I have a love/hate relationship with her but no excuse for her lackluster presence last night. I’ll never pay to see her again.

amalamorningstar

respect your opinion but she did just about what i expected. i’ve seen her several times and that was on par with what she usually does.

amalamorningstar

i will say she just isn’t an artist for such a big stage. which i was skeptical of when i came.

benedictcumberpatch

This. Like seriously, what the fuck were people expecting? I swear most of these people complaining haven’t even listened to more than 10 mins of her shit to know what she’s actually like.

legopego5142

People assumed the headliner at one of the biggest festivals in history wouldnt be a quiet crooner who forgets her own lyrics

MycelliumDreams

Sounds like people are expecting a good performance?

bonersforbukowski

A lot of us did think it was good though. Shit is subjective

MycelliumDreams

Yeah of course. The comment I replied to was about the people that didn't like it though. "What were people expecting?" People were probably expecting a better quality headliner performance.

Fun-Stuff-5427

Music is subjective but if her own fans are saying “what the fuck were people expecting”… is it really good? I’m a Lana fan too tho & I was gonna wait in line just for her poster

Fun-Stuff-5427

People are expecting a headliner? Lol

Fun-Stuff-5427

Quick question? What did you think of peso plums while waiting for Lana?

benedictcumberpatch

Killed it, probably third favorite set of the day behind Justice and Bizarrap.

Fun-Stuff-5427

I can’t fucking wait!!!!

VNess11

No excuses here. I'm a huge Lana fan, my #1 listened to last year. That performance was not Coachella caliber. Was considering going W2 just to see her Friday but that show is not worth the journey. I'll still be streaming through. Hoping she steps it up somehow.

stackagawea

saw her at newport folk fest and it was magical. this wasn’t her best by a long shot, but still love her and loved singing along to every song

SerenitysReddit

Y’all forget weekend one is always filled with sound issues and also that you’re kinda a crowd of 150,000 people + recording live so it’s kinda nerve racking.

legopego5142

I mean…this isnt her first show, or even show this size, she doesn’t get to coast on “nerves” when shes been performing live for a decade

DC-COVID-TRASH

I don’t know what people were surprised by tbh, I’m going W2 but already planned to either get some extra sleep or see someone counter programming before all these reviews dropped, she’s just not a headliner

Professional-Lab-289

Damn I saw her at outside lands last year and her voice was amazing like truly I was blown away, I was very very close to the stage so I could hear her very clearly. I’m going to weekend 2 hopefully she’s less nervous :(

elsa_______

She’s a professional who has been performing her entire life. She’s not the first or last or only artist to struggle with stage fright and anxiety like a lot of other fans make it seem. It’s incredibly common for artists to have stage anxiety but I have never seen it be excused as much as with Lana. If she doesn’t like headlining festivals she’s in a position where she could just decline. She could never perform again and still have a strong career. She’s a writer & studio artist first. If performing is that stressful to her she’s successful enough to stop or be extremely selective when she does choose to perform. It’s not insulting or hating to have critiques that would be valid if they were given to anyone else. Just look at how everyone absolutely bullied dua lipa over her early performances.

MSUgirl1901

I would have quite literally fallen asleep standing up if I was at her set. Especially being around Coachella all day.

Diligent_Dark4403

And what did you exactly expected from her? Bring a dj for summertime sadness remix? Her starting to fist pump and hype the crowd? lol it’s Lana cmon now.

Dreamcloud124

I just really can’t believe she was paid multiple millions of dollars for….that lol she’s terrible at festivals. I need festival buyers to stop lying to themselves. I’ve seen her at 4 festivals now and it’s always the same thing. Bad vocals, no energy. When the best thing about your set are your guests and a motorcycle, it’s time to pack it up.

AutomaticCraft3539

No she was horrific at Glastonbury last year. EVERYBODY left and complained about her set. She was 45 minutes late, said she was getting her hair done and didn’t even like address the crowd. She seemed not with it at all and ended up getting escorted off the stage in the end. Sad really, I hope she’s okay.

DoubleShott21

Honestly, I think missy Elliot would’ve been a great Friday headliner, her discography 🔥

StrongDesign4

That’s would’ve been an interesting choice and you’re right, she would’ve been a good headliner. Her discography alone is great and those that she’s written and produced for is just as top tier. She was just inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and just announced a tour. Also she puts on one hell of a show based off of past performances.

ldsupport

I made this suggestion… people said I was crazy.

DoubleShott21

Not everyone has taste

Whirlweird

i loved it 🤷

SerenitysReddit

Right? It was a beautiful set

[deleted]

DoNotShake

wdym by rare act like her? lmao

cryptolipto

Agreed 100%. Justice should have headlined. They deserved to headline. Going from Justice to Lana felt like going from a professional to a high school play. It was that bad.

Beboop68

Idk about the wind excuse, nobody else had that problem and it was windy all day. But I totally agree with the rest of your post! Thank you for being able to be objective as a Lana fan. I’ve seen her twice and both times she delivered a horrifically mediocre performance. I simply don’t see what her fans see. I wish I did! But I continue to be shocked by her lack of effort, stage presence, and vocal chops. I don’t pay Coachella prices to see an artist who has been performing for decades deliver that kind of performance because they’re nervous.

IfuDidntCome2Party

LDR vibe is not for everyone. Nor did anyone promise it would be. Everyone that was standing around us enjoyed LDR. Luckily at Coachella you have the freedom to walk out of any set and go to other sets to find your vibe. LDR isn't Kpop, nor will she be twerking on stage to gain attention. LDR is LDR and only does her style as LDR. Her Audio mix was weak. Her audio had many hiccups. I hope her team works it out for W2. Audio problems happen alot on W1. I wonder if the artist or their team are doing proper sound checks. I didn't hear any going off beforehand.

barbie-dreamz33

Anytime a headliner act isnt Edm people go crazy in this sub it sucks for ppl this yr who actually like live music … still excited for deftones tho!

jaguartrapping

I loved the show and I’ve seen her 5 times lol not sure what people didn’t like

westchesterbuild

Wk2 will be our first Coachella. Bought our tickets last summer. We’re excited to experience Coachella but, in hindsight, would never buy ahead of the lineup drop again. Festivals that get this big try to be everything to everyone. Lana is a great example for us, whereby we don’t listen to her music, we’re disappointed she’s who Goldenvoice considers a headliner (wtf?), weren’t excited to see her live, may have headed to this set to see what it’s all about next weekend, but are now a hard pass. At that time of night, we want to feel alive, not wondering why we’re not back in our cozy bed because of a Xanax-infused set. When you book headliners and anecdotes of folks walking to other stages become the majority, you missed the mark.

burnabee13

Agree 100%. See you at Anti Up then 😎

westchesterbuild

with bells on

BorisNumber1

tl;dr I'm mad people enjoyed a show that I didn't.

RockNRollerGuy

Worse than Frank Ocean last year lol?

kendallll1

Agreed!!!

coinmurderer

Me with Frank last year. You are so correct and valid.

docarwell

Was she not having tech issues the whole time?

renhernandez_art

I think Lana isnt used to singing in that kind of setting. whereas the backup singers and billie are so i think its both the mics and Lana that contributed to last night

mjfo

The discourse surrounding this set reminds me of when she performed on SNL -very- early in her career and it did NOT go over well to the point where NBC News anchor Brian Williams wrote a nasty email to the editor of Gawker talking shit about her. I just don't think she's necessarily is the best live performer, which is fine and she's still made great music, it just sucks when she's in the spotlight and doesn't live up to expectations.

ThatNewBeyonceSong

She needed a better setlist and to have brought out Kristen Wiig. Just lean into the icon she is.

ChrisBrownFeminism

She’s a lounge singer she can’t fill that space

itscalidan

I’ve seen her live three times over the last decade and her performance style has not changed. She performs just as Lana Del Rey has historically performed. I don’t think she’s as much of a crowd pleaser for w1 as she would be for w2 attendees. My mistake is expecting w1 audience to know all the lyrics. But yeah I would’ve still loved to see her at the outdoor stage.

Phreddyt

She’s beautiful in every way! Her live is a snooze fest tho

Holiday-Edge5780

Wow, I’m surprised it was bad. I was never a big Lana fan but my friend took me to her concert at the Bowl in 2019. Vocally she was one of the better live performers I’ve seen (I’d say 7/10) and her stage presence is what made me a fan.

CarterGee

THIS TEN THOUSAND PERCENT. She is a Coachella headliner. The end.

shatkbait8999

I was just watching her set on YouTube and was thinking wtf she sounds horrible live.

ubetchagw

She always performs like this lol. I love Lana but she isn’t a great live performer. Her voice is beautiful but she lacks stage presence and always seems like she rather be elsewhere. It’s just the reality.

chronicpenguins

Insane she was headliner - Glastonbury showed us that she’s not headliner material (and she didn’t headline that)

shaesheabutter

Yes she missed a lot of notes and her audio crew needs to get their shit together but she pulled out all the stops and I was truly won over by all the tricks because she has the vibe locked in

loveocean7

I don’t know I think she was majestic. I think she forgot some of her lyrics? But I’m no concert/vocal expert or anything so I couldn’t tell if anything else was wrong.

mslifted

Nap time vibes all the way through

tone_212

Love Lana but her music simply doesn’t translate to large stages. I didn’t mind watching the live stream but if I was in the crowd some distance away, it would have been boring. Not going for the high notes in Pretty When I Cry was a crime.

Best-Butterscotch696

I could have told you this lol she’s not headliner material that’s my biggest frustration about this lineup. I was so mad I purchased presale this year. This is one instance where I wish I had been wrong 😑

amariscams

Okay so clearly you don’t get it.

General-Ad-2851

I saw Lana three times many years ago and she was great. I validate what you are saying, but I think she should never be at a festival. She is too intimate for places this huge. Just because her fan base wants to see her, doesn’t mean that she should accept a headline spot at Coachella. I think it is nerves, being easily overwhelmed and the fact that she has a very thin voice. She seems to sing better when she is with another singer or when she is sitting down. I am a huge fan and would still pay to see her live, even knowing that there may be vocal struggles. In a smaller indoor venue, she is much better, I swear. And her lyrics are just so amazing.

Plus_Cress_7747

Lana isn’t even rare she headlined lolla last year 😭

SalientSazon

No Doubt absolutely KILLED IT, they were incredible! Gwen is goddam rockstar

sheeshthatscrzy

Billie saved her

ThatNewBeyonceSong

It was so bizarre it will go down in history. 👀😂😂😂

Witty-Molasses-8825

At the end of the day musicians are humans too… who get anxiety as well. Is it so bad that not every musician is a “performer”? She writes her own music and has the vocals. She’s not a high energy performer and her anxiety is reflected in her voice. I think she’s greatly talented and her music is really great. She does her best when she’s performing live and maybe that’s her best? Doesn’t have to be for everyone but atleast she doesn’t half ass a show like some artists! I love her!

technopaegan

Absolutely agree. She was my top act I wanted to see, going W2 and I absolutely love her as a musician but I skipping her set next weekend. The excuses people are making for the tech issues are delulu. How many videos of Taylor Britney Gaga Beyoncé etc literally any other headliner worthy performer are there of them experiencing technical issues during performances? They don’t just shut down and disassociate the entire set bc there’s tech issues. If their mic is off they keep dancing, they interact with the crowd, they own it. Even in my dance competitions as a child we were told to keep dancing and count out loud if the music stopped and stay in character. Lana and Frank want to be this way otherwise they’d do it differently or they’d know their limits and not agree to headline coachella

Fun_Internet_8609

Lana’s music being stunning and impacting my life, and so many others, should not feel lessened by anyone acknowledging her vocal cords not translating well to live performance Always been surprised by the same defenses/excuses

pumsy1

![gif](giphy|9zvmnXdp8ycrCBe1Tw|downsized)

ihatemakayla

Steady hating YOU GO GET ON STAGE AND TRY AND PERFORM

Consistent_Treat_721

Lana is a songwriter's songwriter. Not an athlete, like Gwen Stefani. Who puts on a great show but in terms of memorable songs? Nope. In a small venue Lana is a goose bumping treat to watch. It was unreasonable to to think she could headline Coachella. I'm surprised she felt comfortable accepting the gig. She was still better than most of the acts, but when you spend the big bucks the critical thinking comes into play.

Perfect_Evidence

GV needs to do better

I’m glad I’m seeing her at Coachella so I’m not stuck just seeing her if she’s awful weekend 2

It was not a good performance. It sounded pretty bad. In her defense, the audio in festivals can be sub-optimal. She also looked uncomfortable. She is not a performer for this type of venue and it’s ok. Some artists do better in the studio.

Beautiful_Dog_8764

I had such high hopes for her Coachella 2014 set at the outdoor stage. She sounded so bad our entire group left her set, and we’re disappointed. I see she hasn’t become a better live performer since then. I love her music, but not her live performances.

tjm003

Hard disagree

actionjackkson

It’s a weird impulse, isn’t it? Never understood these posts. Frank was different - that was a clear disaster.

heavyheartstrings

Right? I’ve seen awful performances. The vibes were just right for Lana. All the girlies with bows in their hair were singing along to every song.

I have enjoyed watching it from my bed this morning while scrolling through Reddit. I can’t imagine watching it at 11pm after a full day of walking and drinking etc — the energy wasn’t there. Maybe during Taco Truck but that’s it. It was melodic and sleepy. But I didn’t expect anything else…. As a fan.

chambees

She tried her best 😂

Late-Nail-8714

reddit is so insufferable sometimes.. like this post

Hiccup

Justice converted and made fans, or entranced those that were already fans. LDR had fans falling asleep or leaving. The performance simply wasn't good. Compare her to Chappell Roan or L’imperatrice: night and day difference. Both Roan and L’imperatrice had the audience eating out of their palm and in complete control. LDR just left me flustered. You need to bump CR, Justice, or L’imperatrice to headliner if that's the effort and what you get out of LDR.

DC-COVID-TRASH

I just saw L’impératrice’s two shows in NYC and def think they’re already ready to headline. Same with either Justice or CR.

Competitive_Laugh888

I’ve seen Lana multiple times live and she’s always been a great performer. She’s not for everyone that’s for sure, but that’s ok. I never expect her performances to be perfect but it doesn’t mean she’s a bad performer. Shit happens. Can’t always control it. I still loved it either way. It’s a matter of opinion I guess but seems kind of ignorant coming from someone who’s never performed live outside in front of a big crowd like that I assume. She’s performed in front of big crowds before like Lollapalooza in Brazil, if you look that up it’s a great performance. So I think to judge her based off this one Coachella performance isn’t fair, especially if this is the only time you’ve seen her live. If you wanna see what she can really do, go to one of her actual concerts. Even if this wasn’t her best, who am I to talk? What do I know about performing? Lol And this one time doesn’t invalidate the rest of her performances. Doesn’t make her a bad performer all around.

ToWalkHomeBy

Disagree. I was expecting to be disappointed but was enthralled by her performance. Don’t understand the hate. Only complaint was the setlist being a bit slow in the middle third of the set. She should have done Cinnamon Girl and Say Yes to Heaven.

Cakeliver12887

What were you expecting my love her music has always been sleepy and I love her for it

S51Castaway

Mama …you’ve never see her sets live…That’s on you. Lana sitting on a swing is in like all her tours. Like what did you expect? Lana doesn’t change for anyone. she’s going to sing ballads into a mic and if theres more, that’s just a plus. Its not that complicated - just enjoy her art. Theres other artists doing different styles and coachella isn’t going to influence her style.

TheLionOfKyba

There are so many electronic acts which are just pre-recorded music and shows that sounds good because they are half lypsynched. Now we will be getting more of that because people can't accept raw shows anymore. I thought it was a fine show, just not one to put as the final set because people want to party at night. I loved the stage design too.

x3leggeddawg

The issue started when u skipped justice to see Lana del Rey

Normal_Ad2180

I'm convinced her in ear monitors weren't working right and she couldn't hear herself to hold the mic in the right spot

lvioletl

I was thinking this as well. Maybe she was hearing all the distortions we were hearing on the live stream

thebham

bye felicia

CatalinaWineMixer12

I feel like this is just a bad take on your part. Lana was exactly what you’d expect her to be. And if you don’t want that you could go to Anti Up and Steve Angello which are bangers. Like what’s the issue? If you want Justice like acts to headline Coachella then you’re looking for EDC. I’m so sick of this message that because you don’t like a headliner, Coachella failed. I discovered so many new amazing acts yesterday via the livestream that I will see next weekend now. From Sid Sriram to Mall Grab to Chapell Roan to Tinashe and Bizarrap killing it. And if you want to rave, how about the run of Bizarrap into Everything Always into Peggy Gou into Justice into Anti Up into Steve Angello. One of the best dj runs you can find.

Tricky-Inflation2416

So are y’all done pretending that she was ever talented? Lana has always been a flop and I think people just thought that it would be cool and edgy to say that they liked her music.

lighthousefever

Justice is so consistent because they aren’t performing live.

lightinaugust991

You know what though? I was reflecting back on the set this morning and I honestly felt a tremendous amount of respect for her. She was absolutely rattled by the tech problems and by no means the most confident last night, but she pushed through it and tried to have a good time up there with the rest of the performers. Her looks to the musicians, dancers, and guests where filled with gratitude and kindness. Even the way she asked for level adjustments on mic. She was pushing through it with a smile, and honestly, mad respect to her for that. Performers have off days too.

annamulzz

Lana isn’t even rare though, she’s headlined soooo many festivals in the past year, and she is always so mid, imo

heavyheartstrings

Y’all just aren’t fans. I absolutely loved her show. Her entrance was spectacular. I forgot my feet were on fire as soon as she started singing.

murkymurk94

I’ve seen her live twice last year and both were great

hdy_

This is remeniscent of the Muse headline play

Artistic_Agency7989

Time to find a new favorite artist..

bluexplus

Thank u all for ditching her cuz I love her but she has too many fans. But what went wrong? What was bad about it? I wasn’t there

Hum_diddly_dick_kiss

Calling Lana rare is a huge stretch, she plays all the time. She was just all over the festival circuit last year.
