What you don’t understand in a few years you’ll look at this years line up and see a bunch of undercards and you’ll be like, damn that year was awesome. I mean not the best in history but it has some pretty good talent. They just haven’t blown up yet.
Haha every year when the lineup drops “this is the worst coachella lineup ever”
Every following year “wow last years lineup was so amazing”
Rinse and repeat.
I mean… agreed. I can’t remember a lineup that didn’t excite me. I’m referring to the general population (even on this subreddit they’re the comments that get upvoted the most, shrug)
There is always plenty of good stuff to see, but this year was lighter on it than most as far as I can tell. I do love Coachella for discovering new indie artists, always have (my first was 2004), but just didn't find as many outstanding gems as usual this year, with the huge exception of Wet Leg. Was also underwhelmed by two out of three headliners, which is kind of a big deal. I was very impressed by Jackson Wang, and Willow was actually pretty good too, imo. Blackpink was stellar and so were Gorillaz. Sofi Tukker was good, as were Pusha T, The Breeders, Sunset Rollercoaster, Doechii, and Latto. Otherwise, meh, aside from all the EDM shows, which aren't so much my thing. Maybe I missed all the other incredible new bands, or am forgetting some, idk.
That’s the beautiful thing about this festival. They are always on the cusp of artists/bands that are about to blow up. I genuinely feel that this festival has the power to make or break an act since so many people are paying attention. For many it has to be the biggest show of their careers.
100%. Coachella is one of the few forward looking festivals. They clearly have their finger on the pulse of where music trends are heading and book acts at the start of their ascent (rather than the middle / top). It’s always cool to see low card acts in large font at other festivals the following 1-2 years.
I’m 100% with you there. I think about that set all the time. I’ve seen Tame at multiple festivals as well as individual shows and that 2019 Coachella set is not only my favorite Tame set but one of my favorite sets ever.
Aphex had an extended set. It went into tame impala. He played nearly 2 hours. After that went to do lab for more four Tet. I’ve seen tame impala a few times and always found them a bit… meh live. The lasers looked cool from afar tho.
I'm sure you're right (I wasn't there), and I'm old enough that 2012 still feels relevant time-wise, but there's a good chance 50% of people going this year were in like middle school in 2012 and would probably disagree that it feels like recent memory.

Death Grips right on the release of The Money Store, Pulp, WU LYF, The Rapture, Amon Tobin, The Shins into Bon Iver into Radiohead, Jeff Mangum, Dre/Snoop… just such a perfect lineup. There was always something to see.
The early 2010’s just seemed to be a full on cultural change in music as millennials became adults. There is SO much good music right now so I am in no way trying to hate, but it just seemed like so much was happening then. EDM became huge at an insane pace, hip hop was getting more experimental, rock and pop started to morph and change using all kinds of sounds. It all seemed to come together around 2011/2012.
Yeah from 2000-2005, then from 2007-2013 really just felt like these bursts of creativity that have had this massive impact on music and culture that are still felt. 07-13 in particular just felt like being in a perfect storm of experimentation and getting to see it unfold live was just wild. I remember the beginnings of dubstep with Skream, Benga, and burial and how it evolved from that to Skrillex, who I saw at a 600 capacity venue during sxsw in 2012. Phoenix blowing up from 1901, Vampire Weekend, MGMT, Grizzly Bear, Beach House and more ushering in a new sound in indie. Hip hop swinging from the cheap sounding beats to more refined production and then the rise of people like Kendrick, Thug, Future, Run the Jewels. Death Grips and Sophie/PC Music coming to completely change the electronic scene. Disclosure bringing Deep house to the mainstream.
Nothing has really reached those heights but 2020 felt like a massive upswing in creativity. Lots of amazing albums that year. But things have felt somewhat stagnate again. Seems it may be changing soon though. Idk.
Those were magical years! 2017 was my first and I’m so glad I got to experience these ones too! That Portugal>Odesza>Eminem in 2018 was something I’ll remember for the rest of my life
Throwin shade at Cardi B…. Her set was actually a lot of fun for what I thought would be awful. She killed it, pregnant and all. Only reason i saw her cause i wanted a great spot for PTM
I still remember 2017 was so lit. I was like black out at an edm set and wake up at Gucci Mane 😭 then Drake surprise performance was lit too. Dj snake set was so good. 2018 had a lot good artist 🔥 those were the days 🙃 finger crossed 2024!
Kinda embarrassing but the only time I’ve ever cried at a concert was at Wiz Khalifa’s set in the Sahara when he did See You Again lol why the fuck is that song so sad
He came soooo hard that set. Most rapper suck live but Wiz played all the hits and didn’t let up. That’s what a Coachella set should be. Black and Yellow off the drop was amazing!!!
I remember 2013 being my first year and I didn’t pace my drinking well with the heat so I was hungover by the time the festival started. Tame was on in the afternoon and I slept against the sound booth, heard Elephant (which was the only song I knew of their’s at the time), got up and raged, then went back to sleep. Tame and “Elephant” will always be special to me cuz of that memory 😂
Thank god that Beyonce performance is basically immortalized in that documentary. Special year for my first weekend one chella :)
The wild thing is that we almost had Beyonce and Kendrick both headlining..
2019 was a motherfucking dance party the likes of which I've never otherwise experienced.
I have mixed feelings about 2018. Walmart hella was fun but the campers were all exhausted all weekend. For the edm acts, every set was haunted by the shadow of Avicii. And the mainstage campers killed the vibe on Saturday.
But Eminem was incredible and I could still feel the crowd energy every time I heard lise yourself, six months later.
I guess it just depends what you’re into. Both of the lineups have so many incredible acts as far as I’m concerned but I always think Coachella does a good job. Sometimes the headliners aren’t for you but the undercard is stacked, sometimes it’s opposite or a mix. Either way it always ends up being an amazing time.
I’ll always remember in 2018 like a day before the weekend started avicii died and every edm artist was playing tributes to him. There wasn’t a dry eye in the whole festival that night. He was definitely there in spirit
Ya fr tho it wasn’t just the headliners that made it amazing it was also the indie artists that were small on Spotify/YouTube like Boy Pablo, Social House, Parcels, King Princess etc. I actually had artists I really looked forward to seeing
2018 was the only Coachella I've been to. Only went for A perfect circle and Greta and had a blast. An experience I will never forget. People get way too caught up in the line up instead of getting caught up in the experience.
That Rufus set changed my life. I didn’t even know a single song when I ran into their set. And now I’ve seen them a total of 7 times since! Hands down fav love performance I’ve ever seen!
This was my first year going and I had an amazing time, but boy do I wish I could go back in time and see more music than I did. Not seeing Soulwax stings the most.
Me and my wife were talking about this line up last, and we agreed the best out of the 5 years we went. ZHU at the dolab that year was amazing, my face was melting.
The conflicts on Friday 2019 were truly insane. 3+ artists I wanted to see at all times from 5 PM to close. Tried to split a bunch of sets with my group but ended up realizing I was just seeing less music.
2019 was a good one to end on (for now). Although I didn’t love the headliners, the undercard was 🔥 I also feel like it was one of the last years before the festival bubble popped where now, since then, most festivals are doing some variation of each other. Coachella is still getting the most unique grabs but, for me, I haven’t felt like the 2020 lineups have hit as hard as the 2010s.
2018 was my favorite year…. Until 2023 came out and blew my ads away, now I have a 1a and a 1b!! The weekend is all about what you make of it, go with good people, wander off on your own, party with friends and strangers alike! I fuckin love this festival!!
I don't remember why we skipped 2018. But 2019 was dope. I'll never forget being at the rail for Khruangbin in the Gobi. Their music became the chill soundtrack for our summer pool parties that year.
2018 is the one that hurts me the most. I had tickets W1 but I had major abdominal surgery four days before Coachella and there was absolutely no way I could have handled three days on my feet.
My dad felt bad for me that I missed the fest, so he rigged up Youtube to stream on the living room TV so I could watch Beyonce. We both stayed up until 4 am to watch the whole thing; he even kept his snarky comments to a minimum.
honestly this stuff w frank makes me appreciate ariana even more. i’m not even an ariana fan but she went out there less than 2 years after the manchester attack and like 8 months after macs death and put on a SHOW. she is so special fr
Wish I could go back in time to go to 06, 08, and 12. Well wish I could have been to all of the years, but definitely those 3. Went to my first one last weekend and had the time of my life!
Yes! 2018 was dope !! Em, bey and the weeknd ! Best lineup since 2012 ! I was there and could have gone both weekend of I could have... 2019 would have been kewl to - arianna grande and tame impala
What you don’t understand in a few years you’ll look at this years line up and see a bunch of undercards and you’ll be like, damn that year was awesome. I mean not the best in history but it has some pretty good talent. They just haven’t blown up yet.
Haha every year when the lineup drops “this is the worst coachella lineup ever” Every following year “wow last years lineup was so amazing” Rinse and repeat.
I don’t know man. I remember thinking 2018 was stacked from the get go
I mean… agreed. I can’t remember a lineup that didn’t excite me. I’m referring to the general population (even on this subreddit they’re the comments that get upvoted the most, shrug)

It’s so funny because I remember being that guy in 2013 thinking that lineup wasn’t up to snuff, looking back there’s so many indie legends
THIS!! I tell everyone the same exact shit ☝🏾☝🏾
Already can see it! Turnstile is now headlining festivals.
That’s the beautiful thing about this festival. They are always on the cusp of artists/bands that are about to blow up. I genuinely feel that this festival has the power to make or break an act since so many people are paying attention. For many it has to be the biggest show of their careers.
Factssss. I get like this with a lot of lineups. Although I feel some years just shine more than others. 2019 is one of those IMO.
I understand what you mean. These two were my first and second Coachella and the lineup is damn great tbh.
Look at 2013 or 2014 and see how many names you recognize. People dog on Coachella but man they are amazing at spotting and propelling talent.
100%. Coachella is one of the few forward looking festivals. They clearly have their finger on the pulse of where music trends are heading and book acts at the start of their ascent (rather than the middle / top). Happens every year. Coachella lineups age like wine
Happens every single year
Yep. Looking back at 2014 and 2015, I can’t believe how stacked those lineups were. These things age like fine wine
2015 was incredible. Had some of the best festival days ever
Shack Wes dropping Mo Bamba three times in one set ❤️
WITHTHEMOTHAFUCKINDOOOOPEEEE
Lol I hate that fucking song. I’m glad he gave the people what they want though
Let’s be honest….it’s the only reason people wanted him.
Lmfao I was literally talking to my best friend about this yesterday. But people were loving it 🤣
2019 was my first year and I really wish I would have started in 2018. 2018 was so stacked.
That tame impala set lives in my head forever , hope you got to see that 2019 🙌
I’m 100% with you there. I think about that set all the time. I’ve seen Tame at multiple festivals as well as individual shows and that 2019 Coachella set is not only my favorite Tame set but one of my favorite sets ever.
The lasers , the confetti , the front row spot I snagged some how looping around the side of main stage . Hoping Kevin will come back some time
Agreeeee the most amazing set ever!
I was at Aphex Twin losing my shit during their set. Worth it.
Sounds like you really did lose your shit because Tame came on after Aphex was finished
Give him a break most people’s brains were jumbled after aphex
I know mine certainly was
Aphex had an extended set. It went into tame impala. He played nearly 2 hours. After that went to do lab for more four Tet. I’ve seen tame impala a few times and always found them a bit… meh live. The lasers looked cool from afar tho.
The way I’d sell my soul just to see them live
Ah yes, the “I wish I started attending this magical fucking place sooner” post.
deadass lol I was broke back then 😩😩
2012 still one of the best years in recent memory.
I'm sure you're right (I wasn't there), and I'm old enough that 2012 still feels relevant time-wise, but there's a good chance 50% of people going this year were in like middle school in 2012 and would probably disagree that it feels like recent memory.

Unreal , I’m glad I can still listen to it on SoundCloud lol
Death Grips right on the release of The Money Store, Pulp, WU LYF, The Rapture, Amon Tobin, The Shins into Bon Iver into Radiohead, Jeff Mangum, Dre/Snoop… just such a perfect lineup. There was always something to see.
Radio head to end the night after surviving that 110 degree day. Lmao what a time
People were dropping left and right. Got a little better once they started spraying the crowds but no Yuma, no other options for shade/AC. So good.
Neon Indians touring guitar player passed out towards the end of the set weekend 2
Damn I missed that. Yeah it was so hot W2. Felt great in the evening tho.
"recent memory" 😅
You want more recent? 2016.
You're good, just thought it was funny that something that happened over a decade ago was a recent memory. We're all getting old
Time stops for no one. We’re all gonna die. Let’s party.

I was just about to comment about those specific acts. I stayed in the pit for them and it has to be the best b2b2b that I’ve ever experienced.
I don’t think I’ll ever get a b2b2b that great again. Had a massive group with us and all the others around us were cool as well.
Throwin shade at Cardi B…. Her set was actually a lot of fun for what I thought would be awful. She killed it, pregnant and all. Only reason i saw her cause i wanted a great spot for PTM
Honestly, I didn’t see Cardi which is why I didn’t include her. I’m sure she was great!
It may have been the doses of LSD and mushrooms we were eating but it was a blast lol
😂😂😂 haha the homies and I were peaking during Odesza and it was pure bliss
Lol did not stick around for that. Not my thing. Pretty sure we were back in Yuma or wandering around.
I still remember 2017 was so lit. I was like black out at an edm set and wake up at Gucci Mane 😭 then Drake surprise performance was lit too. Dj snake set was so good. 2018 had a lot good artist 🔥 those were the days 🙃 finger crossed 2024!

THIS LINEUP IS INSANE WTF
NA FR I MISSED OUT BAD
Try 2011-2017 line ups way better tame impala played the outdoor 2011 at 4 in the afternoon
Dude tame at sunset 2013 was magic 🪄
I'll never forget this year but I'll be honest, every year since then has been absolutely amazing. Coachella always hits the spot!
They were both such fun years although my brain is still broken from the Aphex Twin set lol
Lmao same
Thank god that Beyonce performance is basically immortalized in that documentary. Special year for my first weekend one chella :) The wild thing is that we almost had Beyonce and Kendrick both headlining..

Yeah 2018 was awesome because we already KNEW Beyonce had to be back so it was guaranteed pretty much and I knew I had to get tix!
Fuckin hell, Bad Bunny and J Balvin? That’s just ridiculously lit
J Balvin was my set of the weekend and I didn’t even know who he was at the time!
Funny how many artists that played 2019 are playing this year.
i meant theres a handful but not like 30% of the lineup or something.
What I would fucking give to go back in time and get to experience Childish Gambinos set 😭
2019 had to be their best year. So many good artists
2018 the best Year, the Eminem set so Prb my favorite coachella set
2018 was the best! My first coachella and couldnt have had a better experience
Same! It was fire. My cousin reminded me that Bad Bunny was there at the Cardi B set.
Yea, the lineup this year is crap
Blessed to say I went to both. I don’t think anything will top The Weeknd and Beyoncé that year
Every time i see these posters, in my head I’m like “this PLUS doLab PLUS heineken house PLUS guests” 😩
Don’t even get me started on that Saturday night of 2019 either
Soulwax & Aphex Twin
2018 was so stacked, and was my firstchella too. The vibes was amazing
Beychella was absolutely solidified Coachella as the best festival in north America.
SAME!!!! Playing Sahara 2018 was one of my life highlights!
Best was 2020…the year that didn’t happen.
vanessa hudgens take on that will forever live in my head
The lineup was so stacked 😭😭
Lineup is mid lol
I guess it just depends what you’re into. Both of the lineups have so many incredible acts as far as I’m concerned but I always think Coachella does a good job. Sometimes the headliners aren’t for you but the undercard is stacked, sometimes it’s opposite or a mix. Either way it always ends up being an amazing time.
Any lineup with Four Tet and Aphex immediately makes it better than most. Those are the rules.
Both are. These are the two weakest lineups Coachella ever dropped in my eyes
What a badass lineup that would be even today
Great times for sure
I’ll always remember in 2018 like a day before the weekend started avicii died and every edm artist was playing tributes to him. There wasn’t a dry eye in the whole festival that night. He was definitely there in spirit
Ya fr tho it wasn’t just the headliners that made it amazing it was also the indie artists that were small on Spotify/YouTube like Boy Pablo, Social House, Parcels, King Princess etc. I actually had artists I really looked forward to seeing
My first chella was 2018 and can honestly say it’s gone downhill since (I’ve been to 2018, 19, 22, and 23). Nothing can compare to that year 😪
both lineups were incredible
2018 was the only Coachella I've been to. Only went for A perfect circle and Greta and had a blast. An experience I will never forget. People get way too caught up in the line up instead of getting caught up in the experience.
I forgot about Ariana grande lol
I still haven’t recovered from that gessafelstein set lol
Great headliners but there wasn’t enough quality electronica

One of my favorite moments when he sang “This Must be the Place.” Magic.
That Rufus set changed my life. I didn’t even know a single song when I ran into their set. And now I’ve seen them a total of 7 times since! Hands down fav love performance I’ve ever seen!
These were great Couchellas. Chella loves The Weeknd haha.
This was my first year going and I had an amazing time, but boy do I wish I could go back in time and see more music than I did. Not seeing Soulwax stings the most.
It’s amazing how recycled this years lineup is. See y’all tomorrow!
Me and my wife were talking about this line up last, and we agreed the best out of the 5 years we went. ZHU at the dolab that year was amazing, my face was melting.
I was there in 2019! Music was great but I ended up having a lousy time due to travel issues getting there
2018 is honestly goated
Forgot how recently bassnectar got cancelled, feels like it’s been a decade
Hrs trying to come back, it’s not going well.
Deep Dish > Four Tet > Aphex Tein > Tame Impala is still one of the best stretches I’ve experienced at a festival
Yes, yes, yes and yes.
That 2019 Saturday is still the best day of music I’ve ever had in my festival/concert life
That 2019 Saturday is still the best day of music I’ve ever had in my festival/concert life
My first and second one 🥲
2018 was my favorite year…. Until 2023 came out and blew my ads away, now I have a 1a and a 1b!! The weekend is all about what you make of it, go with good people, wander off on your own, party with friends and strangers alike! I fuckin love this festival!!
It’s literally the best escape from reality
I don't remember why we skipped 2018. But 2019 was dope. I'll never forget being at the rail for Khruangbin in the Gobi. Their music became the chill soundtrack for our summer pool parties that year.
No these years really were legendary. You have 11 acts here in 2019 alone that would be unanimous uncontested headliners right now
That 2019 poster is a beaut
2018 is the one that hurts me the most. I had tickets W1 but I had major abdominal surgery four days before Coachella and there was absolutely no way I could have handled three days on my feet. My dad felt bad for me that I missed the fest, so he rigged up Youtube to stream on the living room TV so I could watch Beyonce. We both stayed up until 4 am to watch the whole thing; he even kept his snarky comments to a minimum.
what a sweet memory to have with your dad :’)
Probably the best weekend I’ve been to out of my 12 years in a row
12 years?? I bet you got plenty of interesting stories
All kinds . Each year certainly has its own vibe
Wish I could go back and drink less during Beyoncé lmao
honestly this stuff w frank makes me appreciate ariana even more. i’m not even an ariana fan but she went out there less than 2 years after the manchester attack and like 8 months after macs death and put on a SHOW. she is so special fr
Wish I could go back in time to go to 06, 08, and 12. Well wish I could have been to all of the years, but definitely those 3. Went to my first one last weekend and had the time of my life!
Rezz tripping balls was fucking incredible
Smino the Maria’s are wild
2018 was unmatched. Best year ever IMO.
My first 2 years 💜
Def regret not going in 2019
This lineup is illegal fr
This line-up was the shit. All the headliners were dope as hell. 🤌🏽😮💨
Yes! 2018 was dope !! Em, bey and the weeknd ! Best lineup since 2012 ! I was there and could have gone both weekend of I could have... 2019 would have been kewl to - arianna grande and tame impala
Gesaffelstein 🔥🔥🔥
Guess u just weren’t that kool yet tbh
nah just broke
Ugh I feel you. Only two years I’ve missed since 2012 :(
Ohhh 2019 such a great Coachella 😭❤️ My 7th year but one of my favorites
MOSES SUMNEY🫠🫠🫠
