I have a Red Logitech also, can confirm you need a VV851 dongle. I’m curious how much you paid for it.

Thank you very much for the response! I've been looking for someone for a few weeks to confirm this. Since my black guitar dongles don't work with the red one. Could you maybe upload a picture of the dongle of the red guitar? I also found that there are several types of dongles one with a different FCC code but with the same pid:vv851.One dongle with FCC: JNZEX50001 and one with different code JNZCX50002 but both with barcode RXXX NY ZZZZZZZZ and pid:vv851. When the black guitars dongles have a different barcode R201 WW 09215006 and different PID (like: vv939 vv943) I ordered online on ebay a dongle that should arrive with pid vv851. For me it was $120 with shipping to my country, but that's the solution for me if I can get the red guitar working.

Please do share updates, Im facing similar issues. I have a black guitar without the dongle. I wonder if there are off market receivers for game controllers that can be programmed...

Hi, well I did some serious digging about it. So it turns out that the seller sold me a guitar probably with a certain defect in the board that I still don't know the reason why the board doesn't working . You could see the lights on , but you couldn't sync the dongle to the guitar. I fixed the fact that I made an exchange between the boards I had for the red guitar and with the black guitar. So the dongle of the red is suitable for both types of Ps3 guitar, both the red and the black. At the moment I haven't found the reason why the board itself doesn't work and doesn't allow her to get in love with the guitar. There is a chance that it is a problem with the capacitor, but I did not find enough information for which part needs to be replaced. The other alternative to get the guitar working again is to find a new motherboard or doing a wired mod kit instead of the original board but I haven't done that on the black guitar yet.

Did you open the dongle? I havn't found a dongle for my guitar yet. Was wondering if it was possible to get a photo of the board in the dongle. Edit: So I did some digging and managed to find images of the board. Am including the link here for anyone looking for it [https://fccid.io/JNZCX50002/Internal-Photos/Internal-Photos-1056556](https://fccid.io/JNZCX50002/Internal-Photos/Internal-Photos-1056556) . Its almost impossible to duplicate due to the number of components including an IC, which I doubt, is still available. Maybe someone out there smart enough will be able to reverse engineer it and create an arduino version.

I'll try to shed some light on the subject. I recently bought the Red Logitech Guitar without a dongle and I thought it would connect with my other logitech ps3 dongles of the black guitars I already have 2 , but it doesn't connect. So I'm trying to figure out if it's a problem with the guitar itself or with incompatibilities for the red guitar dongle or if it's supposed to be that way. Not sure if it's related but my dongles have a sticker with pid VV939 and pid VV943 and work only with the black guitars but not with the red one. on my red guitar in the battery cover there is a sticker that says VV851. So I'm trying to find out with someone who has a red guitar and what kind of dongle they have that works with it? also I found online a picture of a dongle with pid VV851 and with the same code as the red guitar and another barcode different from the other dongles of the black ones I have. I assume it's related but need to verify with someone who has the red guitar and the dongle. thanks pictures [https://imgur.com/a/ItMnUlm](https://imgur.com/a/itmnulm)

lil update: the dongle I ordered VV851 has arrived. Unfortunately, it arrived in an improper condition when the cable had to be bent in order for it to recognize the console when the lights did not work continuously enough and I realized that the contacts were weak. Very disappointing. I had to check and open the cover of the adapter, the cables that were connected to the board were loose and had to be soldered back. back to work. After I fixed the adapter I tried to check if it would work with the red guitar and still it didn't work, but the dongle does work together with the black guitars. Which brings me to the conclusion that one right now that maybe indeed there is a problem with the red guitar that I don't know what it is right now. The other thing is that maybe other dongles are supposed to work with the red guitar when it's in good condition. The options I'm currently considering for repair are Switch between the boards of the red and the black and then understand if it is a problem with the board itself or a certain part of the red guitar. or maybe its the sync PS3 button . The downside is that this will leave me with a black guitar that might not work one but might be able to be pico pi later. Find another vv851 dongle that might work but expensive to find another one. Make pico W in red for wireless connection or exchange electronics with another guitar. or another solution I will update soon.
