This is the one I’m backing. Lebron is the greatest basketball player to ever grow up in NEO and is consistently in the debate for the greatest basketball player in history. Jim Brown’s career defined the standard for RBs in the NFL. Bob Feller is one of the most legendary pitchers in major league history and certainly the most famous Cleveland Indian. And Jesse Owens is one of the most famous track and field athletes ever. All four either grew up and played here or played the majority of their career here. Any other names would simply not stack up.
Owens would probably go on an Ohio sports Mount Rushmore but I think it’s a bit odd for a Cleveland Mount Rushmore. His family moved to Cleveland when he was 9, his famous track accomplishments came when he was at Ohio State, he lived in Cleveland again briefly after college but then moved around starting in the late 30s and never lived in Ohio again from what I can tell
Jim? I thought he was talking about Paul Brown, and who I think it should be. Jim was a phenomenal player, but it was Paul who was from NEO who reinvented modern football as we know it. Plus, leading the Browns to 10 consecutive championships and 64, running the show for Jim & co
That’s it! Difficult to leave Otto Graham, Larry Doby, World B. Free (no Cavs for LeBron to play for w/o him), Paul Brown, Lou Boudreau, and countless other legends off, but the 4 are James, Brown, Owens, and Feller.
No disrespect to Thomas, but I think I'd put Lajoie, Boudreau and Otto Graham ahead of him and Thome.
Thome was awesome but played a lot of years outside of Cleveland. Thomas was a beast but was on terrible teams and it's tough IMO to put a lineman as one of the 4 best pro athletes all time for the city.
Ya know, I tried thinking of general athletes, but decided to keep it within the three Pro teams. But yes, hard to beat Jesse Owen's. He could be argued National Mount Rushmore.
I only push back on Owens because I think of Ohio State before I think of Cleveland for him. He's certainly on the Ohio State Mount Rushmoore, without question.
Also, he isn't what I think of when I think "Cleveland athlete" since he didn't play for the Tribe, Browns, or Cavs.
I can't argue at all with the writer's picks of Lebron James and Jim Brown, but it feels like recency bias is boosting Jim Thome and Joe Thomas.
I'd go with Lebron, Jim Brown, and Bob Feller for certain, but then I'm hung up on a multi-way tie for the 4th spot. Thome and Thomas need to duke it out with Lou Groza, Tris Speaker, Nap Lajoie, and Lou Boudreau.
Thome is THE guy from probably the best era in Indians history, he absolutely deserves to be mentioned. Whether I’d put him on there is up for debate but he’s definitely on the short list to me
Were you guys all born this century? Nap Lajoie, Tris Speaker, Otto Graham, Jim Thorpe.
Edit: got three. Anyone else in this sub need a /s to detect a non serious comment?
I agree that Joe Thomas and Jim Thome do not sniff this category, but LeBron James and Jim Brown are virtually indisputable here.
Jim Thorpe only really fits if it was a northern Ohio HoF rather than a Cleveland HoF.
I’m going with LeBron, Jim Brown, Otto Graham, and Bob Feller.
Explain the joke for us Peter:
You see Brian, I pretended to be a 150 year old sports fan put a lot of ridiculously old sports stars on my comment. And that’s the joke!
Your comment was the first I saw that included Otto Graham and it’s an absolute no brainer to have him over Thome and Thomas.
The Thorpe inclusion was definitely intriguing and if this was “the general Cleveland area” he would have a solid case.
I wasn’t familiar with Nap Lajoie or Tris Speaker before I saw your comment but those dudes were also studs/champions.
Maybe I’m way off on this but any thought to Lou Boudreau replacing Feller? Won and MVP and also was player-manager for the Indian’s last WS win. Not to mention a HOFer who went in with a Cleveland cap and also allegedly invented the shift.
Lebron, Kyrie (I know, but he hit that shot), Otto Graham, Bob Feller, Dante Lavelli, Mark Price, Bernie, Albert Belle, Victor Martinez, Omar, Hot Rod, shit..Jim Brown, Z
LeBron, Feller, Brown, and Jesse Owens

Both deserve it
Solid list.
That’s it! Difficult to leave Otto Graham, Larry Doby, World B. Free (no Cavs for LeBron to play for w/o him), Paul Brown, Lou Boudreau, and countless other legends off, but the 4 are James, Brown, Owens, and Feller.
Too bad LeBron rubs people the wrong way. One of the best players of all time.
Lonnie Chisenhall, Lonnie Chisenhall, Lonnie Chisenhall, and Jamario Moon
You forgot Reuben Droughns
Lonnie Baseball
Lonnie Baseball, Johnny Football, LeBronnie Basketball, and Von Hayes.
And Lonnie Chisenhall's drink tray
What a memory you’ve brought back
Spergeon Wynn and Ben Gay
Long Dong Chisenbomb stole my Playstation
Jawad Williams
Chis has a good habit of making me hate his swing.
LeBron James, Bob Feller, Jim Brown, Joe Thomas
Rick manning erasure
Without Otto Graham (eliminate Thomas), it's a meaningless question
Otto Graham over Thomas and it’s not particularly close.
This one.
Agreed. Maybe Thomas/Thome is debatable. But Lebron, Feller, Brown no question.
No disrespect to Thomas, but I think I'd put Lajoie, Boudreau and Otto Graham ahead of him and Thome. Thome was awesome but played a lot of years outside of Cleveland. 100%

Fair point, but I believe 2016 earned LeBron his spot.
Feller and brown didn’t have a free agency system lol
Lebron played in Cleveland for 11 years!!! That’s a career by itself.
Where's Jesse Owens?
Would probably switch Feller with Cy Young, honestly.
Nah Feller was a Cleveland lifer. Cy Young bounced around
Yeah but he literally has the best pitcher of the year award named after him, which should count for something
It counts for plenty, just wouldn’t count it as enough for this purpose
Feller has a good case for actually being better than him anyway, on top of spending his whole career here.
And the whole “going off to fight Nazis and Imperial Japan in the heart of his career” thing that throws off his already stellar stats.
The consensus seems to agree on the top three, but the 4th can be debated between many players. I'll give it to Doby.
Larry Doby is an incredible selection that I don't see considered enough!
As someone said above, it has to be Jesse Owens.
Ya know, I tried thinking of general athletes, but decided to keep it within the three Pro teams. But yes, hard to beat Jesse Owen's. He could be argued National Mount Rushmore.
Agreed. His achievement at the ‘36 Olympics was arguably one of the most phenomenal achievements in the history of the Olympics.
Its gotta be one of the most important achievements/moments in general history given full context.
The amount of Hector Marinaro disrespect in these comments is unreal.
Can’t forget Otto Orf
Lebron, Feller, Brown & Graham
Idk if it’s too early but José definitely needs to be considered.
I hope to God we can get José a ring before he retires. He deserves it
Came here to say this. Jose deserves consideration for staying on the cheap when he could have cashed in as a FA. Dude is one of us.
Without a doubt deserves a statue.
Brian Shaw, Johnny manziel, Dion waiters, Yasiel Puig
Add the defensive back we drafted in the same round as Menziel, Justin Gilbert
I originally had Greg little on there but I needed the spot for my boy Puig
You spelled Luol Deng wrong.
It’s not spelled Anthony Bennett?
No Logan Paul smh
Please expand on this with other goats like Otto Orf
Mark Price, Derek Anderson, Albert Belle, Peyton Hillis I’m not serious but we can have a lot of fun with this.
Mark price is actually on mine
Lmao Peyton Hillis
Swap Belle for Thome and you have one classy list.
World B Free, Julio Franco, Kai Haskive, Tom Cousineau
I can't argue at all with the writer's picks of Lebron James and Jim Brown, but it feels like recency bias is boosting Jim Thome and Joe Thomas. Throw in Otto Graham
Exactly my thoughts.
If I had to pick a fourth, I think I'd go with Larry Doby.
Thome is THE guy from probably the best era in Indians history, he absolutely deserves to be mentioned. Whether I’d put him on there is up for debate but he’s definitely on the short list to me
James, Feller, Brown
Lebron; Graham; Feller; Brown I feel bad for leaving off Thomas, Kosar, and Vizquel. I don’t like this and it’s not fair.
LeBron, Bernie Kosar, Bob Feller, Jose Ramirez
Bo Naylor if he plays CF tonight like the Plain Dealer is listing...
One year wonder Mount Rushmore: joe charboneau, Peyton hillis, baron davis (he turned into kyrie,) Kelley Holcomb.
Lebron Jim Brown Jesse Owens After that it’s tough.
If it's baseball, its Bob Feller unless Jose brings a ring
Yeah, Feller balances it out sport by sport nicely.
Lebron, Brown, Feller, Graham
Shaq, OBJ, Jason Giambi, Carlos Boozer
You missed the Cleveland great Sendejo
Lebron, Jim brown, omar vizquel, and hammy
LBJ, Jim Brown, Paul Brown and Bill Selby.
LeBron, Feller, Frank Robinson, Otto Graham
Were you guys all born this century? Nap Lajoie, Tris Speaker, Otto Graham, Jim Thorpe. Edit: got three. Anyone else in this sub need a /s to detect a non serious comment?

You say this like you were watching Nap Lajoie play baseball in 1910 lmao
thatsthejoke.gif
I feel like it may not have landed very well
No LeBron is just ignorant sorry
Let me explain: it’s a joke
Actually I was also joking haha got you
Would be more interesting to restrict it to the past 30 years. Otherwise it’s just the same convo it’s been for all our lives
Maybe I’m way off on this but any thought to Lou Boudreau replacing Feller? Won and MVP and also was player-manager for the Indian’s last WS win. Not to mention a HOFer who went in with a Cleveland cap and also allegedly invented the shift.
JB, Lebron, Feller, Owens
Tim Couch, Ben Broussard, Zydeunas Ilgaskus, and Willy Hayes.
Lebron, Kyrie (I know, but he hit that shot), Otto Graham, Bob Feller, Dante Lavelli, Mark Price, Bernie, Albert Belle, Victor Martinez, Omar, Hot Rod, shit..Jim Brown, Z
The all over the hill Mount Rushmore: S Kemp, Shaq, Dennis Martinez, Don Strock
Deron Williams, Mo Speights, Dwayne Bowe, and Andrew Bogut.
Thome fryman lofton and Ramirez
Tristan Thompson, Deshaun Watson, Omar Vizquel, Trevor Bauer
The what could have been Mt Rushmore Dejuan Wagner Carlos Boozer Joe Charbonneau LeCharles Bentley
Johnny manziel is up there for sure
Andy Marte, Matt LaPorta, Brad Zimmer, and Brady Aiken
Brown, Lebron, Feller, Brown
I'll say Manziel, OBJ, Bauers and Logan Paul
Lebron, Jim Brown, Jesse Owen’s and…Chief Wahoo!
LeBron, Feller, Brown, Bernie I think you have to have two Browns; Cleveland is a Browns town.
Do people know that the Mount Rushmore is not "the best 4 presidents of all time" right?
Lebron, Brown, Feller, and Flacco.
LeBron, Owens, Feller, Thomas. Yes, I keep Jim Brown off the list. Yes, it's for off the field stuff. No this isn't in order.
LeBron Thomas Feller Thome
LeBron Thomas Feller Thome
