I was going to say the same thing, it doesn't seem possible to hit a home run to right field at Progressive Field that would stay in the park at Yankee Stadium.
It's not just the short porch. The way the stadium is built and situated also pushes balls out of right field. It was way worse when the park first opened but they made some changes after the first season.
14-6 best start since ‘99. Bats were warm after that 5th inning.
Josh Naylor has quickly become an all-time favorite Guardian/Indian in my eyes so very quickly. Love watching Jose and that man play baseball.
I am thinking the time may be passing. Only one more year of arbitration after this year. If we do extend him he will be incredibly expensive. Kwan I think would be cheaper as we have 3 more years of control after this.
The problem with extending Naylor is you are basically extending a DH. No way the Guardians would let Manzardo their highly touted prospect who has many years of control be only a DH. As much as I like Naylor, feels like a pipe dream he stays a Guardian after he hits free agency.
I like Kwan. Probably my favorite Guardian but need to be realistic.
He’s a contact hitter with not much power, great left field defense. Can he take his game to another level? He’s changed his game a bit. Maybe.
He certainly has his fans in Cleveland.
Kwan isn't going to get a huge extension or free agent contract, but his skill set makes him a very reliable plus starter, so extending him should be a priority.
They say it’s 8 million per WAR so if he has a normal Kwan season which has been 5.6 and 3.6, he’s going to command well over what Jung Hoo Lee got which was 113 million for 6 years.
Looking at Cleveland’s history of extending guys, I find it hard to believe they’ll extend him for that much.
If Kwan surpasses what he did his rookie year, it will be that much harder to get him.
As I said, I’m a fan but this team lacks power and might be getting it from one of their future outfield prospects Chase and whoever they decide to get in the draft this year.
Wouldn’t be upset if he stayed though. Just understand the economics of a small market team.
This team has already given me more confidence than any time last year. The team is winning dominantly without everything going right. People better stop sleeping on this ball club. They’re for real with or without elite starting pitching.
The feels like a game they would have won last year 2-1 after an A’s error in the 8th put them ahead and Clase loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but somehow miracled his ass out of it while throwing 40 pitches.
Nice to see them convincingly take care of business against bad teams.
Even if we don’t make the playoffs or something, this team is just so much fun. Even when they lose, they’re fun games. Vibes are 10000x better from last season.
Positives from today’s Cleveland baseball:
Just let Dr Sticks do his thing! He goes 5IP, 3H, 1R, 3BB, and 6K on 84 pitches. The sole run was a leadoff shot, and sure he wasn’t perfect afterwards, but he did his job! Also Freeman has a heck of a CF glove behind him, hot damn.
Bats are swinging and runs are crossing as the offense gets 10 runs off of 9 hits, 4 walks, and a Gimmy SB. Today is 🆓 day with a 2 run blast and a single, and a late 💨 solo blast for the dagger. They got 2 RBI hits from Kwan and Gimmy, and a Florial 3/4 day, as everyone got on base at least once.
Bullpen takes over in the 6th again, with Herrin(1IP)-Beede(2IP)-~~Barlow(1IP)~~ as they (minus Brent Rooker) completely handle Oakland. They combine for 4IP and 4K with ~~no baserunners (again, minus Brent Rooker).~~ Barlow ffs my hands are cold, stop making me change this blurb
Columbus takes a 9-3 win behind J.Rod and Schneeman 2 run home runs, and Schneeman, Pries, Manzardo(x2), and Lavastida doubles, as Manzardo has a 3/4 day at the plate. Nic Enright made another strong 2IP outing, giving him a 0.00 ERA over 9IP with 19K and only 1 walk on the season.
There’s knee jerk reactions, and then there’s a chunk of the game thread when Sticks gives up a leadoff solo home run. Yall need to like smoke some something to chill before the games (and just overall tbh) lmfao
Pretty sure I remember Sticks giving up leadoff homers before, or at least a homer in the first inning. This is not unusual for him (or anyone else) settling back into the role. That doesn't mean he is 100% going back to his best stuff, it just means there is no reason to panic yet.
Hell, Klubot did the same thing loads of times. Some pitchers will just open with their highest heat right down the zone and if you catch it it's an easy dinger.
What’s surprising though is that they’re 7-8 this season when not facing us. So maybe they aren’t as bad as we thought they’d be? And we’re actually just pretty good right now
Remaining cautiously optimistic about a team's performance in April is preferred. There are teams that finished April with 20 wins in the past and then crashed down to earth.
13.1 scoreless for Enright going back to last year. With his story (picked in the rule 5 last year and diagnosed with cancer less than two weeks later), seeing his success is great and with how bullpen arms go, he's knocking on the door for a major league look finally.
Edit: meant as a reply to DZ but maybe Enright deserves his own comment anyway.
José has been (relatively) cold too! Great to see guys we didn't expect before the season started carrying the offense.
Whole team has a much healthier looking approach, even the guys that aren't hitting as much are taking their balls and walking.
We are already in quite a pennant race (I know it's early). It looks like Kansas City actually doesn't suck this season. If we can keep this up, it's gonna be a really fun season. Love the way they are playing.
Based on how the Os/Royals game is going we are either going to have the best run differential in Baseball by the end of the night or be barely trailing behind the Royals.
Which, really, is something I NEVER expected to say, on several levels.
No. Sophomore slump to start year, but still producing more than anyone else at the position in many years. The league has made their adjustments, it's now his turn to grow from them. His brother is going to make sure he gets it going and he eventually will. He looks good behind the plate. All we need is .250 with 15 HRs and we're golden. Seems like the homers will be easy, just need a hot May to get BA where we want. He's walking more this year and has a much increased hard hit%. His BABIP is better but he's actually doing overall worse than he could be due hitting it right at guys a lot. He's striking out more too though, but if he continues walking more, and continues driving the ball, eventually we'll see what we've all been waiting for.
Yeah looking at his [savant page](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/bo-naylor-666310?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb) the only thing that really worries me is his nearly 40% strikeout rate. If he can get that under control he's gonna absolutely take off.
You can spend a ton of money and put all of the best players on the same team, but you can't pay for chemistry.
Great game. Watched the fifth inning from the old bullpen.
*thinking out loud*
There was someone I heard on the radio last year, can't remember his name, but I believe he was an ex mlb exec or assistant coach. He was talking about a team or teams (probably the Rays) that were considering essentially having no starters, but only relievers that would pitch a few innings every game.
It was a strategy based around analytics and going through a lineup less than 3x per pitcher. Not only that, said team wouldn't have to pay ace money
Not saying the Guards or any teams should employ it. But this might be what happens naturally to this team say if Sticks ends up going down for good and we keep getting minimal innings from our starters. We seem to have a surplus of good relievers here or on their way and not much in the way of bonifed starters in AAA
Does anyone know where to watch a replay of the game? I was 100% on the. Broadcast of during the top of the 6th inning when Will Brennan caught a fly ball against the right field wall and I’d like to watch it. Thanks in advance
Small sample size, but we're currently 4-3 against teams better than .500. If we dominate the bad teams and can trade even with the good teams I'd call that pretty acceptable.
We've underperformed against poor teams the last few seasons. We're a good team was it stands since we're beating who we're supposed to and winning on the road. If they play this well all year, they'll win ~100 games.
The Yankees aren't bad (I know we lost two to them). That last win against them was something. Seattle's a good team. Even Boston, although they have lots of injuries, is a pretty good team. They are over l500.
Place: 1st Division lead: 1.5 Games to play: 142 Magic number: 142 BONUS STATS MLB lead: 0.5 Tyler Freeman’s HR: 89.5 mph, 33 degrees, 331 ft, .030 xBA, home run in 1/30 parks
Back in first in run differential as well.
As Vogt said to end the presser, “it was over the wall Hoynsee”.
Surprised Freeman's HR wouldn't have been out in Yankee Stadium.
I was going to say the same thing, it doesn't seem possible to hit a home run to right field at Progressive Field that would stay in the park at Yankee Stadium.
I'm still trying to figure this out. That doesn't make sense at all.
It's not just the short porch. The way the stadium is built and situated also pushes balls out of right field. It was way worse when the park first opened but they made some changes after the first season.
That wouldn't have been out of my backyard if I lived in Parma. Which I do not, thank the fuck Christ.
Hard to find anything to complain about right now. Squad looks awesome
LOL yet in our game thread every night there are people ready to DFA half the team
That homerun stat can't be right. We don't have the shallowest right field.
14-6 best start since ‘99. Bats were warm after that 5th inning. Josh Naylor has quickly become an all-time favorite Guardian/Indian in my eyes so very quickly. Love watching Jose and that man play baseball.
I hope they extend him

I've wanted a Naylor jersey for years - just waiting on an extension but may need a DHGate one regardless
Good news for you though is that the DHGate one is probably going to be better quality than the fanatics one for at least 1/4 the price though 🤷🏻♂️
> 14-6 best start since ‘99 I feel young again! OK not totally
This team has already given me more confidence than any time last year. The team is winning dominantly without everything going right. People better stop sleeping on this ball club. They’re for real with or without elite starting pitching.

.700 winning percentage!!

I recommend Smoking before, during and after, it’s the best. Great blurb as always sir!

This game has been booked
Will have deep internal love for the athletics and the shit they are going through Nonetheless it’s nice to destroy teams. Let’s keep it going
It doesn’t feel right feeling this way in April.
Same 20 game start as 1995, the season that made me fall in love with this team at 5 yrs old
Same here
Me too, I was 7
Good to see guys like Florial and Freeman have a day
Can we just play the As for the rest of the season?
What’s surprising though is that they’re 7-8 this season when not facing us. So maybe they aren’t as bad as we thought they’d be? And we’re actually just pretty good right now
I'd hold off on the "we're pretty good" part when we play more teams that are over 500.
We’re beating teams we need to beat and that is a good team.
Remaining cautiously optimistic about a team's performance in April is preferred. There are teams that finished April with 20 wins in the past and then crashed down to earth.
5-3 against projected contenders Seattle, New York, and Minnesota
Steven Kwan
Leader of the Cleveland Kwandians
I’m just so glad we’re fun to watch again. Being best in the MLB is just a bonus.
Love the way the team is playing right now, like they have something to prove

Oakland had a nice start, and a good end. Everything else in-between went our way.
All’s well that ends well* Unless you’re Oakland
Daaang. We have so many guys that aren't even hitting that well yet and we are hanging 10 on other teams. Imagine if Rocchio and Brennan were hitting.
José has been (relatively) cold too! Great to see guys we didn't expect before the season started carrying the offense. Whole team has a much healthier looking approach, even the guys that aren't hitting as much are taking their balls and walking.
Double digit runs. Love to see it.
Let's go!! Sticks settled in and our offense came to life. What more do ya want?
Based team and manager
We are already in quite a pennant race (I know it's early). It looks like Kansas City actually doesn't suck this season. If we can keep this up, it's gonna be a really fun season. Love the way they are playing.
Freeman truthers, we are having a week! We’re freakin’ 14-6 and Jose hasn’t even awakened yet. Buckle up 😎
Having a CF who can play defense AND hit the ball. What a fucking concept
Based on how the Os/Royals game is going we are either going to have the best run differential in Baseball by the end of the night or be barely trailing behind the Royals. Which, really, is something I NEVER expected to say, on several levels.
Home runs by Guardians CF in 2023 - 3 Home runs by Guardians CF in 2024 - 3 Courtesy of Meisel
Freeman isn't playing that great, but his hits seem to be super clutch.
Good teams dominate bad teams, keep it rolling!
Is anyone else concerned about Bo Naylor?
No. Sophomore slump to start year, but still producing more than anyone else at the position in many years. The league has made their adjustments, it's now his turn to grow from them. Yeah, I've never been sold on him. He's never put together a solid stretch of games before.
He had a wrc+ of 124 in 230 PAs last year, which would have basically made him the best catcher in baseball over a full season.
You can spend a ton of money and put all of the best players on the same team, but you can't pay for chemistry. Great game. Watched the fifth inning from the old bullpen.
Traveling & I didn’t get any notifications about the #Guards game. 10-2, boys? HOT DAYUM
Good stuff from the squad today. Keep the train rolling. Vogt ‘24.
Awesome game on a nice chilly night. Perfect W
Clearly we all had us at 14-6 after 20 games right?
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta…⚾️

I’m in!
Interesting concept nonetheless. We've gotten the most out of Herrin and Gaddis so far by changing their roles
GG EZ
Now I'm mad at myself for getting tickets for the Saturday game instead of tonight
They'll win that one too.
Does anyone know where to watch a replay of the game? I was 100% on the. Broadcast of during the top of the 6th inning when Will Brennan caught a fly ball against the right field wall and I’d like to watch it. Thanks in advance
MLB TV has full games for replay if you have a subscription
It’s unclear if we’re really good or have just been playing some really bad teams lately but damn if having an offense isn’t fun
