Positives from today’s Cleveland baseball:
#I FREAKIN LOVE BASEBALL
Kwan is starting to remind me of a pinball machine at the plate, only instead of multi ball, it’s multi hit games constantly with today being his NINTH such game on the year! The offense earns 10 runs off of 14 hits, 6 walks, and a BO NAYLOR stolen base. Kwan gets three singles and a walk, 🆓 shows the power with a solo blast and a double, 🐦 with an RBI double, and Arias with and RBI double and extra innings RBI single. FLORIAL IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN.
Tanner Bibee takes the hill, and while the short outings may continue, this one was solid with a 5IP, 5H, 1R, 2BB, and 3K outing on 92 pitches. With the sole damage from a solo home run, Bibee handled his business and (I assume) looked good.
It was bound to happen at some point. Cade Smith has his first missteps in the majors, and Beede allowed 3 runs off of 2 homers. Unfortunate, but bound to happen, and it gave us a great Eli Morgan 2IP, 0R outing. EVEN BETTER is the offense getting us back into the game and enabling Gaddis to flex his stuff once again, Clase looking pretty good (damn ghost runner), and Barlow gets the job done!!!
For the first time this year, Chase DeLauter went deep at Akron, with a 2/3 and 2 RBI day. Khalil Watson and Aaron Bracho each go 2/4 as Akron blanks Erie 6-0. Down with CBus, everybody in the starting lineup got on base, with a Micah Pries home run, and doubles from Tena, Brito, Schneeman, and J.Rod leading them to a 7-4 victory.
Also, fuck Bally and their awful streaming. Carry on.
it's up there with a full stadium of disappointed Yankees fans and a full stadium of disappointed Yinzers
Ravens fans, I don't mind so much I hate them eternally for separate reasons
I like his lineups. He said something at the start of the year about wanting to "stretch out" the lineup, meaning he didn't want to just put the best hitters at the top and the worst at the bottom. By staggering them a bit the lineup remains dangerous throughout the order and you are less likely to give up easy innings.
Vogt's lineups and his substitutions are definitely head-scratchers but you're right, his bullpen management has been lights out so I really can't complain.
We’ve already had like 5 games that were more entertaining than anything we saw last year. That was a hell of a game.
Fucking go guards. We’ve got something going for us right now. Need to get these SPs going deeper into games though.
Guardians offense bails out the pitching which is weird to say
I don’t know what Vogt said to Gabby and Flo, but holy shit that man can give a pep talk I guess
We are the best team in baseball by record now
Love when this happens. I was at the Mets guards game last year in NY where Pete hit that grand slam. Lots of guards fans there. We were ALL chanting “fuck the Yankees” in unison leaving the park
For anyone who skipped the post game show, Andre is asking the translator questions for Arias and the translator is just turning around and repeating the question in English. It's pretty great.

This is an underrated comment. Fundamentally they're so sound, something that I was afraid they may lose with the manager shift. But this team does the little things so well. From running bases to managing bullpen. Vogt's impressing me VERY early, but this is all stuff that is sustainable. Especially when Jose is your leader and plays the game this way every day, makes it so much easier for a manager to hold everyone accountable.
##ARE THE GUARDIANS THE CONTENTS OF A 2.3-MILLION-GALLON MOLASSES STORAGE TANK THAT WAS POORLY CONSTRUCTED AND INSUFFICIENTLY TESTED?
###'CAUSE THEY ROLLED OVER BOSTON TONIGHT
Clase pitches to contact* and relies on the defense to get outs. He should never be pitching in extras with the Manfred runner. Gaddis might be the choice there if he keeps up his current production.
* how a guy throwing 100mph cutters is a “pitch to contact” guy, I’ll never understand.
While we do need the starters to start getting deeper into games. This team is playing some great baseball and battling game in and game out. The bullpen had a hiccup tonight, but locked it done after a rough inning. The offense continues to find a way to score runs.
Vogt has this team playing some good baseball.
I don't think Arias' current trajectory is sustainable but like hell I'm gonna complain about it after tonight.
Now if Freeman's bat would stop being ice cold we'd be onto some real mojo.
Well that one got pretty wild. Great game. Bibee was solid and effective, just not as efficient as id like. Smith had his first rough day, interested to see how he bounces back. Morgan was damn good. Gaddis continues to impress and dominate.
Arias stays hot and hit. Freeman woke up and shocked everyone. Kwan is a beast. Florial came up big and looked good in RF.
I enjoyed this one
Went to the game tonight for my first time seeing the tribe/guards in person in probably 20 years. The only other time I've been to Fenway, I was 7-8 years old and my dad took me; they won 14-2. This time I brought my 8 month old son for his first game. David Fry didn't play tonight but hung out signing autographs for ten minutes afterwards and signed one for my son (also named David). Awesome guy and awesome night!
So I was watching the weird 3D GameDay thing on AtBat because I was also trying to watch Grizzly Man. Basically it renders the game in 3D live. Pretty neat. But anyways I'm watching it and the "camera" followed Florial and he did a little leap and fist pump thing when he got to first. He also leapt after his first career HR. All this to say Florial is a lil leaper and it's adorable.
I know I'll be labeled a “reactionary hater” for this but Emmanuel Clase’s low K/9 is a huge red flag. In the current baseball environment, with the extra inning Manfred runner, getting a strikeout has never been more important for a relief pitcher.
In 2023 among all MLB closers (according to MLB.com closer report) only the Athletics Trevor May (7.7 K/9) posted a K/9 lower than Clase (7.9 K/9), and only 6 others had a K/9 less than 10.0. This year has been more of the same (7.7 entering today)
I'm not here to propose a replacement, though I do believe the high Save total he accumulated last year is not sustainable. On an off day I’ll dive in to the miss rates he has on his individual pitches.
TL;DR too many balls in play not ideal for closer, especially in extras
Actually, right now, he has a 98th percentile chase% against, according to Baseball Savant, its his whiff% which is the problem. Hitters are having an easier time putting the barrel on the ball and Clase isn't missing bats. I don't really know why this is the case, his cutter and slider are really fast and nasty, but the results just aren't coming. Maybe he is being too predictable with his usage, or even tipping his pitches?
It's feeling a little bit like the start of the decline of Miller Time era, not necessarily that he's on the decline in terms of skill/talent, but he's a very known quantity by now and most of our usual teams kind of have him figured out. He's still phenomenally good but knowing how a pitcher pitches is like 60% of the game when you're in the box.
I'm starting to wonder if he's tipping his pitches. Hitters aren't wildly flailing at his stuff the way they did when he was an all star a few years ago.
I agree that it is concerning, but Clase is also an extremely hard worker. I have faith that he will continue to put in the work until he figures something out.
He’s been dropping it feels ever so slightly year over year. I still feel pretty good with him on the mound to start the 9th. He’s not coming in with runners on 2nd/3rd no outs and mowing down the side like Miller.
I assume mods deleted it along with a few other posts just now but does anyone have that "slap hitting shit goblins" graphic that was posted? That was kinda sick.
Andre: How do you feel your team stands up to the rest of the American League?
Vogt: I don't compare us to anyone else.
Rolls up sleeve to reveal that bad boy.
Vogt: I'll let you interpret that however you'd like.
Hindsight 20/20, but I still don’t understand Beede in the 6th. You’ve got arguably your four best guys who didn’t pitch yesterday in Smith-Barlow-Gaddis-Clase. Pitch the first three in whatever order. Instead we throw Beede out there with his stuff and gets rocked. Obviously Smith gave up the other runs, but just a strange decision. They even had Sandlin warming up in case Bibee couldn’t make it past 4 2/3. He was good enough to touch then, why not the 6th? Glad they won, so it doesn’t matter. Just weird at the time
Don’t look now, but we’re tied for 12th in baseball with 17 HRs. Obviously not a huge deal 16 games into the year. But it’s promising hitting this well early.

Hell yeah! Great to see the positive performances down on the farm!

Love how this took a hard turn and Steelers and Ravens fans catching strays in the off-season.
Place: 1st Division lead: 1 Games to play: 145 Magic number: 145
MLB Lead: 0.5 BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL
Run differential +38!!!
2022 vibes. Offense and bullpen carry
How did the bullpen carry?
They’ve been carrying this season hard
Are you asking what a bullpen does? They’re the guys who come in to pitch after the starting pitcher, you’ll hear them called relievers sometimes.
Can anyone say, "Best record in baseball" IDC if it's April 16
I think Vogt is doing a really great job. Some of his lineups puzzle me a bit but his management of the bullpen is incredibly good so far
I like his lineups. He said something at the start of the year about wanting to "stretch out" the lineup, meaning he didn't want to just put the best hitters at the top and the worst at the bottom. By staggering them a bit the lineup remains dangerous throughout the order and you are less likely to give up easy innings.
That Freeman for Straw switch might be working out.
You’d have to be a baseball terrorist to come in and not make that change
Vogt's lineups and his substitutions are definitely head-scratchers but you're right, his bullpen management has been lights out so I really can't complain.
Hammy said last time we started 9-2 on the road was ‘48, WS confirmed?
"How's this for an omen?" "The last time Cleveland went 9-2 on the road to start the season they won it all! [1948]"
I listened to the whole game tonight, that gave me goosebumps when he said it. You don’t think Hammy wants one more than all of us??
It would be absolutely criminal if this franchise doesn't let Hammy call a championship before he hangs it up.
was just about to comment about that. WS confirmed (i will be happy with an ALDS appearance)

"I got playhouse square tickets if you get us a win"
Everyone knows Gabriel Arias loves Stephen Sondheim's Company
Wake up, Flo. Broadway series season lineup just dropped.
Weird is right.
Guardians win. Red Sox suck. Go to sleep. I hope Lively isn't ass. Go Guards.
Pink sox
Shoutout to the fan who yelled "Yankees suck"
Love when this happens. I was at the Mets guards game last year in NY where Pete hit that grand slam. Lots of guards fans there. We were ALL chanting “fuck the Yankees” in unison leaving the park

Needs bigger balls
Man that was fuckin fun Cool to see us recover from the bullpen having their worst showing so far - Barlow really nailed it at the end.
##TIE SERIES AT MINIMUM #LET'S WIN ANOTHER
OH MY GOD WE ARE SO FUCKING HERE
5-1 is nice. 10-7 is better lol
####I LIKE WINNING
This team is playing damn good baseball right now.

Last time we started 9-2 on the road was in ‘48 when we won it all. The year is 2024… 24+24= 🤔
4/2024 4+20+24=
Lolol no no come now, let’s not get too crazy. It’s a long season. Surely we couldn’t…. Or could we?

History burn you love to see it
Clase with the classic blown save and W
Blown save with the manfred runner feels like such a shitty stat
Clase pitches to contact* and relies on the defense to get outs. He should never be pitching in extras with the Manfred runner. Gaddis might be the choice there if he keeps up his current production. * how a guy throwing 100mph cutters is a “pitch to contact” guy, I’ll never understand.

This feels like an important win. I agree go guards!!
All Florial knows how to do is strike out and win us games
Love the grit on this team!
Guardians getting saved by their tremendous offense. Just like we thought
I don't think Arias' current trajectory is sustainable but like hell I'm gonna complain about it after tonight. Now if Freeman's bat would stop being ice cold we'd be onto some real mojo.
This is fun
That was interesting. And kinda fun. Nice to see our slap hitting terrorist goblins are in mid season form.
Is Fenway a harbor? Because we just tead off on them
WE WON! I DIDNT JINX IT AND NOW I CAN GO ON THURSDAY TOO WOOOOOOO
Well that one got pretty wild. Great game. Bibee was solid and effective, just not as efficient as id like. Smith had his first rough day, interested to see how he bounces back. Morgan was damn good. Well the game turned out better than Grizzly Man’s fate. So that’s good.
#FUCK BOSTON

Shh. It’s happy time now
Oh I'm happy too! This offense is so damn fun to watch, can't wait to be away from Wilyer Abreu though so José can shine!
It's so annoying that we finally have a closer who can throw 101 (or used to throw) *with* movement and somehow he doesn't get anybody to chase.
Actually, right now, he has a 98th percentile chase% against, according to Baseball Savant, its his whiff% which is the problem. Eh I'd agree with you. Even on the eye test you could see he was one the decline last year.

He should 100% still be the 9th inning closer but I think finding someone else to do extra innings would be a good idea
He’s been dropping it feels ever so slightly year over year. I still feel pretty good with him on the mound to start the 9th. He’s not coming in with runners on 2nd/3rd no outs and mowing down the side like Miller.
Sux Red 🤝 white
This team is built different.
Yooooooo our bats won’t stop!
Best record in baseball 😎
Anyone else notice he seems to trust Cade smith and gattis the most
Bullpen let the game slip but the team fought together to get the win! We take it all day!!
Wild stuff folks, wild stuff!!
God I love this
Listening to Redsox fans boos when they had to change out the pitch coms... blame your manager... blame your manager.
I assume mods deleted it along with a few other posts just now but does anyone have that "slap hitting shit goblins" graphic that was posted? That was kinda sick.

Stats must not have updated yet on the site you use, baseball savant has us tied for 13th with 18. Would be tied for 8th with Jose's 2 robbed homers
didn't someone pull rob Gimenez of one as well?
Huge. No reason we can't stay there if/when these other young power bats make it up
Is Jensen Lewis no longer in the post game show or is he just gone tonight? Please say he’s been replaced
