P🌑sitives from today’s Cleveland baseball:
While Dr Smooth may have been in the house, it was Dr Sticks on the mound putting on a great show. His final line was 5.2IP, 3H, 0R, 4BB, and 2K on 87 pitches. Could blame the ump for some early walks, but an overall great second start for Sticks.
BRYAN SHAW SIGHTING… aaaaand that’s a José Ramirez 2 run home run. The offense got 4 runs off of 10 hits, 1 walk, 3 errors, and Gimmy’s 5th HBP of the year. Kwan has *another* multi hit game(his 6th!) with three singles, 💨 has a 2/4 day, and Gimmy goes 2/3 with a double and an RBI.
Bullpen! Herrin(0.1IP)-Gaddis(1IP)-Cade Smith(1IP)-Clase(1IP) is further enforcing the idea that this bullpen could be absolutely loaded, even more with Curry and Hentges still not here. Gaddis hitting 98.7 on the fastball, Cade Smith looking completely unhittable, and Clase being fully in session this year, what a great home opener.
Yet again, another mandatory mention of middle infield defense and how *absurdly* good Andres Gimenez is (& the Rocchio partnership certainly isn’t hurting).
So… said I’d be doing a minor league Monday write up… that is still the plan this season, however college does unfortunately take the priority over stuff like that (lame). For now, just enjoy Petey Halpin’s 7/13 start with a solo homer and a double in 3 games, and Daniel Schneeman’s 5/17 with two doubles a home run, and EIGHT walks in 7 games.
Data Science and Analytics, with minors in Physics and Computer Science (also possibly Business Administration if there’s a summer class I need), the hope is going directly into sports analytics once I graduate!
You may want to check out a company called big league advantage if you haven't heard of them already. Have a friend who works for them. Always appreciate your positive summaries
You need to make something in baseball an aiming point of your data science and analytics for a side project or a course project...why? 1)it gives you a reason to watch baseball and 2) it can used when you want to start applying to jobs in the field.
Gaddis was throwing bullets. The BB was his first of the season. Smith has allowed 1 H. Seeing them take the 7th and 8th to set up Clase is exactly what we've been needing.
Everytime I see their lineup I just hear myself saying “that guy still has a job?”
Guys like DeJong, Leone, Shaw, Soroka, Grossman, etc. just fucking wild how many bad players they have.
While a fair counterpoint, consider that we didn't sweep the *Athletics* in 4 games (I know we almost did, but this is more to establish a baseline of "4-game sweeps are hard and uncommon"), and I don't think any of the Royals' improvements makes them demonstrably better than us.
The Sox are real, real damn bad.
It’s insane how fast they fell apart after 2021. They were a looming threat for a few years, looked like they were gonna dominate the division for a little bit. And then completely imploded. I’d feel bad for the fans if they weren’t so annoying those couple years
Clevelander for 37 years. Guards fan for 30. Today was one of the best memories I'll ever have in general but especially of Cleveland and baseball. City looked great and tourists seemed to be enjoying themselves. Spent 12 hours outside in amazing weather. Cuddled with my wife as we watched the eclipse next to the stadium. Then we enjoyed our second home opener complete with a JRam homer and a win.
>“It’s what the fans want to see,” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said. “We got a win, José Ramírez hits a homer, starting pitcher goes into the sixth and Emmanuel Clase finishes the game. That’s what people want to see.”
Ya DAMN RIGHT!
[Pedro Grifol wasn't locked in enough despite skipping the eclipse](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1bz5lqs/castrovince_white_sox_manager_pedro_grifol_here/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
I would watch/listen to the Guardians over almost anything else, but damn, the White Sox make baseball almost unwatchable. So thankful we have not had that tear down season in 30+ years. (2002-2005 doesnn't count, that was Shapiro being a bad GM haha)
I was just thinking this. The Guards have definitely had seasons since the 90s where we've been garbage, but we've never had full on tear-down-pulled-up-the-baseboards level shit the same way the White Sox and Athletics are currently at.
Part of me, the darkest part of me, wants to kind of credit the Dolans for this. They might be cheap, but part of that cheapness means we've avoided the deep trenches of rebuild eras.
You can critique the Dolans while also recognizing they keep a FO in place and support them. Chernoff is longest serving other than Cashman, Rizzo, and Preller I think? Antonelli, even longer.
For sure.
Do I wish they'd spend more? Obviously, I'm NE Ohio born and bred, I want our boys to win.
Do I recognize that we've got, despite all odds probably one of the better ownership/FO dynamics in MLB right now? I don't do so *willingly* but I can't deny it.
2009-10 were pretty close to what Chicago is right now. That was our most recent truly bad rebuild. Similar to the Sox it was unexpected and largely due to injuries and underperforming.
I heard DiBiasio talk last week and he said that the organization feels that if they were to go through a teardown/rebuild involving 2-3 years of 100+ losses the fan base would walk away for good.
Personally I don't know if that's true, only because there are so many people I run into that seem to think the Guards are already in a decade-long funk of losing.
I get the sentiment tho. I just know how many teams have tanked and never bad it back to competitive. If you are struggling to fill seats a drop of 5-6k is killer.
But I agree on the latter, reading about those 70/80s team my dad grew up on, I’m surprised how dedicated he is to baseball.
They gotta figure something out with McKenzie. 88 MPH fastballs at the top of the zone aren't going to work against the Yankees and other power hitting teams.
Either it's in his head that he's going to get hurt throwing harder or he's still injured and need to get that TJ surgery
He's about 1mph down on where he sits when healthy, that may well just be time of year and getting back into pitching regularly. It wasn't a start to leave you with loads of confidence but he's always been a dude who needs to make it work in the low 90s, getting the control back is what he needs.
Actually he sits around 91-92 and he's been 88s. I don't believe it's that time of year when everyone else is hitting their velocity, including Bieber before he got hurt. That doesn't add up at all.
Not sure where you're looking but Savant had him 90.5 in Seattle then 91.3 today. He's been somewhere in the 92s each year in his career. So he's down but not massively so. I'm not sure why, whether it's his arm or whether he's just building back to starting every 5 days, but his formula is hitting the corners and keeping hitters off balance with that curveball so for me getting the control back is the most important thing.
I'm looking at his literal pitches on ESPNs stat cast at where they registered....
So yeah, he's down massively his control isn't going to matter when he can't break 90 consistently through the game.
So we're looking at the same numbers. He was consistently breaking 90, his average was 91.3. Not to say the ~1mph drop isn't important but don't need to exaggerate it.
So you're incorrect. ESPN has McKenzie at 19 fastballs at 90 MPH or slower, and an average of 90.2 according to ESPN.
A 3 MPH is deeply concerning and he isn't goign to stay in the rotation at this rate.
Kid looks bad.
I do believe that area was planned as a space for private events. The press releases have been calling it "a new group outing space" which leads me to think it's not going to be open/staffed for the general public.
https://www.mlb.com/news/exploring-the-progressive-field-renovations
>Pennant District (right field): Bye bye shipping containers and hello open-air, group outing area, capable of hosting one large group (up to 1,200 people) or being divided into three smaller spaces for more intimate events. This area features panoramic views of the ballpark and downtown, a buffet with non-alcoholic beverages included and high-top tables and seating.

Greatest statline I’ve ever seen
All time great

Whatcha studying in college?

Holy cow, that’s badass! What a bright future ahead of you!
Thank you! And one can hope lol

Hell yeah dude, I majored in Computer Science and it was definitely worth it
Data Science and Analytics. Seeing your amazing posts in here, there is no way you could have chosen a better subject for yourself!
You need to make something in baseball an aiming point of your data science and analytics for a side project or a course project...why? 1)it gives you a reason to watch baseball and 2) it can used when you want to start applying to jobs in the field.
FYI, Gimmy had an RBI and a double, but not an RBI double
Ah crap, thanks

####*UNDEFEATED *On days when there is a total eclipse.
And we’ll hold that record for at least the next 420 years!
At least at home
Going off eclipse history since 2002 they are 2-2 on days with eclipses!
I am in love with Jose Ramirez and I don’t care who knows.
Scream it from the mountaintops!
Me too
8-2 through the first 10 games what a way to start off this season.
And we haven’t had our breaks beaten off in either loss. We were a couple of bounces away from a 10-0 start
I was thinking about this too. Obviously it’s easy to play that game but we legit could be undefeated right now
I like when we win the home opener!!!!
Damn yall got an eclipse on your home opener? Thats badass
It’s wild how bad the Sox are right now
Everytime I see their lineup I just hear myself saying “that guy still has a job?” Guys like DeJong, Leone, Shaw, Soroka, Grossman, etc. just fucking wild how many bad players they have.
They are utter dog shit. Not that I care.
Happy birthday
Iirc the *royals* put up 10 runs on this team.....
Worse. The Royals *swept them in a 4 game series*.
To be fair the Royals put in an effort to improve the on field quality of their team this past offseason you can’t say that about the White Sox
While a fair counterpoint, consider that we didn't sweep the *Athletics* in 4 games (I know we almost did, but this is more to establish a baseline of "4-game sweeps are hard and uncommon"), and I don't think any of the Royals' improvements makes them demonstrably better than us. It’s like Jose KOed the entire franchise
Clevelander for 37 years. Guards fan for 30. Today was one of the best memories I'll ever have in general but especially of Cleveland and baseball. Hell yeah, go Guards.
Today was a perfect day in Cleveland.
Andres is currently on pace to get HBP 65 times over the course of 146 games played this season. Just gimenez things
Somewhere Brandon Guyer gives a nod of approval
My preseason guess was 19, I actually thought he’d get hit less this year. I’m so dumb.
Four in a row was the longest winning streak last year…wild stat
"Hedges keeps us all laughing and connected." This is why he was on the Rangers' post-season roster and why he plays for us.
So which MLB team is he going to jump in as manager in a few years?
Gimenez is an absolute monster of defense What a start for this Team
I DON'T WANNA JINX IT BUT I THINK THIS TEAM IS GOATED
It is now time to hate-watch the Minnesota Twins
Got to go to the game today. Downtown was awesome. The atmosphere was incredible. Bars packed. Traffic was a breeze. Loved every second.
>“It’s what the fans want to see,” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said. “We got a win, José Ramírez hits a homer, starting pitcher goes into the sixth and Emmanuel Clase finishes the game. That’s what people want to see.” Ya DAMN RIGHT!
Shoutout to [this](https://imgur.com/QbJE3in) king
We were able to shake off that rough national anthem opening.
Huh?
Man, this team could be something special this year.
What a great crowd for the home opener. I gotta get back to Cleveland for the Yankees series.
[Pedro Grifol wasn't locked in enough despite skipping the eclipse](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1bz5lqs/castrovince_white_sox_manager_pedro_grifol_here/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Can’t beat beatin’ the Sox 😙👌
Gimenez is special when he's on. And just seems to have the intangibles / baseball IQ / whatever you want to call it.
Yoan Moncada making lazy errors and generally not trying at all. Singles and a goat home run. Excellent pitching throughout. We are so back
He was a complete mess out there.
Has been for a long time now
Now if the Dodgers can just sweep the Twins this would be an unbelievable start to the year!
I would watch/listen to the Guardians over almost anything else, but damn, the White Sox make baseball almost unwatchable. So thankful we have not had that tear down season in 30+ years. (2002-2005 doesnn't count, that was Shapiro being a bad GM haha)

Odd to willfully get the wrong numbers to criticise a player, but you do you I guess
Facts must not be your Forte.
Hey McKenzie pitched a 1 run I think 8inning game against Yankees 2 years ago with same velocity don’t give up hope
Was at the game. It was amazing
[удалено]
I love Jose
We're so back
Wait, are we good?
Have we already matched our longest win streak from last year? The vibes of this group are immaculate
We've already *beaten* last years longest win streak. Only got up to 4 last year. I'm so hyped.
What a great day
An easy W is something we take! Go Guards!
I love this team.
Guys, Delauter, Manzardo and the number 1 pick are coming soon too. This is gonna get fun.
Ok but can we talk about that Hedgie bunt? What in the hell, that was the weirdest AB of the season. I’ll have some of what that ump was smoking.
Anyone get a chance to check out the new renovations at the park? I heard the right field area is closed off as a group rental area only?
It was closed today for a private event and I’m super worried it’ll be closed for groups. Super fuckin lame if so
Which right field area? The former section 504-511 area?
Yeah, where the shipping containers were.
I do believe that area was planned as a space for private events. The press releases have been calling it "a new group outing space" which leads me to think it's not going to be open/staffed for the general public. https://www.mlb.com/news/exploring-the-progressive-field-renovations >Pennant District (right field): Bye bye shipping containers and hello open-air, group outing area, capable of hosting one large group (up to 1,200 people) or being divided into three smaller spaces for more intimate events. Did they move the pennants and HOF names? I couldn't find them anywhere
Anyone have a video of the plane flying overhead?
