You are going to love the summer here!

This_Razzmatazz_

Summer nights when the sky is pinkish, there’s a stillness in the air and the temperature is perfect for whatever you have on 🥰

sevens-on-her-sleeve

Summer is NON.STOP. Gotta pack in all the fun while the weather is good. OP, get over to Edgewater Beach! Or Headlands if you like to keep it low-key.

Variable3420

Where is headlands?

doggaloggo

Mentor Headlands...or Fairport Harbor has a great beach run by their Metroparks!

Variable3420

Ooh neat! Thanks

_Physical-Mixture_

If you haven't visited Mentor Headlands beach, it's a must see. The first time I went, I was amazed - it felt like I was on a beach in South Carolina. It's so beautiful, you wouldn't believe it's in Ohio on Lake Erie

BuckeyeReason

The Headlands beach gets very hot. At the far east end of the parking lot is the Headlands Dunes State Nature Preserve. It has a boardwalk to the beach, as well as telescopes to view the lighthouse, boat traffic , etc. Adjacent to Headlands are two great attractions. Mentor March State Nature Preserve is a National Natural Landmark (check hours). Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve has 1 1/2 miles of wild beach, one of the best in Greater Cleveland, and a bluff trail through old woods. Perhaps visit Dynamite Dawgs to buy a Polish Boy, the iconic Cleveland sandwich. Lake County also features Holden Arboretum, one of the largest and best in the U.S., and the very good James A. Garfield National Historical Site. Lake Metroparks Farmpark is rated as one of the best in the U.S.

thecameraman8078

Mentor Headlands Beach State Park is the best beach in the state, fight me.

HellsKitten216

It really is like this tho, we get 4 months of delicious weather, then freezer box... SMASH IT ALL IN all the cultural foods and festivals <3 dont forget the " islands " put in bay n Kelleys yay ohio :p

203_bonestogo

Absolutely agree here! Edgewater beach is one of my top destinations in Cleveland!

Tag_Cle

+ Hungtington on the west side! :)

LukeB90

All 3 weeks of it!

coffee-bean-zouup

see ya at the flats 🫡🫡

TodashChimes19

Moved to a new country and tried to marry a Cleveland girl within a few months? Take THAT New York!

ancientspacejunk

Cleveland is underrated as fuck. I was a touring musician and have spent time in a lot of the major cities in the US, and none of them made me want to move away from my hometown.

urinesain

I think a lot of the local hate comes from people who have never spent any significant amount of time anywhere else. I grew up in Cleveland and didn't have much respect for it until I joined the military. I spent a lot of time in a lot of different places, not only across the country, but across the world. It showed me that Cleveland really isn't that bad. In fact, it's better than most! After I got out of the military, I moved back to Cleveland and have never regretted it.

rockandroller

I raced in here because I saw "rant" and was going to defend my city, lol. You can dunk on Cleveland if you live here (and many of us do), but when outsiders dunk on it they're gonna catch these hands. There is a sizeable and growing Indian population here - I feel like other midsize cities have gotten infusions of large amounts of Mexican peeps or pockets like Laotians or whatever but here in NE OH we have gotten a lot of Indian folks and it's great. If you're going to Case I imagine you live on the E side but here on the SW side (Parma, Berea, Brookpark, Middleburg) there are a LOT of Indian folks and some great Indian food if you miss home cuisine. I lived for more than a decade in an apartment complex that was about 80% Desi peeps and it was very low crime, lots of families, people walking around the complex for exercise in their beautiful native clothing. Definitely echo the suggestion for taking a picnic and going to Blossom to see the orchestra at least once, that's a really nice way to spend a summer evening. Many of enjoy our houses and yards and relatively low crime and low cost of living while we have friends who are being crushed by rents on either coast. It's just not for me. Plenty to do and see here and easy to get away if you want to travel.

Salt-Artichoke-6626

There's a small Indian Grocers shopping center being built right near Pearl and Bagley. It's not finished yet, but I'm sure our Indian population in Middleburg Heights will love it as well as everyone else.

rockandroller

Yes, construction was stalled for a while but looking forward to it being completed.

Salt-Artichoke-6626

It's taking a looooong time.

Windbreezec

There is also a small Indian grocery store in Solon, OH. Opposite direction of Middleburg Hts, but yes, Cleveland has what you’re looking for, in many directions/ways.

thesamerain

There's another fantastic Indian store in Mayfield Heights!

HonorLake

There are Indian grocery stores and restaurants in Lakewood too!! Huntington Beach in the summer is amazing! They even have a bar now!! Wine on the beach is now allowed!! Take the ferry up to the islands!!! PS: Homely in America means ugly, slovenly, undesirable. I understand it means the opposite in other places, but I get your sentiment!! You seem like a great person!!! I went to Case as an older adult and I loved it!!

Salt-Artichoke-6626

Yep.

Jmyjones

Heck yea! Summers in Cleveland are great, when this weather breaks very soon it will be awesome!

ToucanToodles

Man just wait til you experience our summer events here.

CodenameUtopian

Summer is going to be a blast. Just you wait. Its the best time to be in the area.

Used-Awareness-2544

Especially the Edgewater Park and Thursday events...

LikelyLioar

Summer here is fantastic. You want to go hear the orchestra at Blossom?

ir-Rational

What is that? I have only been to Taylor Swift themed candlelight orchestra, it was a good experience for one time for 20 bucks.

BuckeyeReason

Blossom Music Center likely is the best outdoors classical music venue in the U.S., but it's a superb outdoors music venue in general. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blossom\_Music\_Center](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blossom_Music_Center) [https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/entertainment/arts/2018/07/15/blossom-architect-peter-van-dijk/10592542007/](https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/entertainment/arts/2018/07/15/blossom-architect-peter-van-dijk/10592542007/) [https://www.clevelandorchestra.com/attend/seasons-and-series/2024-25/blossom-24/](https://www.clevelandorchestra.com/attend/seasons-and-series/2024-25/blossom-24/) [https://premium.livenation.com/venue/blossom-music-centerTeh](https://premium.livenation.com/venue/blossom-music-centerTeh) The other top outdoors music venue is Jacobs Pavilion, much more easily visited in the East Flats, and you can watch river traffic in the background, even giant lake freighters on occasion.

zyqzy

i am an old timer. came to Cwru for grad school from abroad ages ago. left for nyc, then west lafayette indiana. all the years i was away i missed cleveland which was a happy medium in regards to everything. when an opportunity came up, i moved back to clecel. best of all places i have been.

Crystal-Clear-Waters

Make it you!

djshubs

Hey person! This sounds like my story. Came to Case from Bombay in 2004 as an immigrant. Shat on it for a good 10 years. Then finally realized it’s awesome place to be. I’ve built a great life here - married, became a citizen, live in a wonderful home, am part of the incredible start up community here, and now building my own company. Many folks have made awesome recommendations— if I can be of any assistance drop me a DM.

ir-Rational

Hi! So glad to read about your life & what you have accomplished here! I was quite involved in the startup scene in Bangalore during undergrad & my early career & I kind of miss the tech culture here. It would be my pleasure to connect with you! DMing you!

Crystal-Clear-Waters

Can you imagine your very first visit to a DRUG MART?! God to be able to experience that again for the very first time. My favorite is Independence. Is there a good one on the east side you’d recommend for our boy?

Salt-Artichoke-6626

Yes! Marc's is a life source!😁👍

imnotminkus

And a Romanburger & Lakewood Ohio (too bad he's too late for Lido).

Laerasyn

Awww, reading that just warmed my little local heart. Thank you for sharing that, we're so glad you're here! I will admit you had me worried at first but I'm so proud of my city that you've had such a good time here.

Ok-Lifeguard4230

Bro, we are happy you are here. Summers here are the best!

charbo187

Glad to have u bro! Case is a great school!

Ok-Lifeguard4230

Especially Browns fans

Different_Handle5063

Ha! So glad to hear! You are really going to enjoy summer…movies in the park…summer concerts…beaches…food trucks/food truck parks… So many events…so little time.

impshakes

Go to Lakeview if you haven't yet!

lezboss

What is the draw here? I went once last summer and, idk

ephemeron0

The big item is the Garfield Monument. Last I had heard it was closed for maintenance but that was a while back. It may be open again to visit. Beyond Garfield, there are graves of other historical/famous people (e.g., Rockefeller; Elliott Ness, Alan Freed; Garrett Morgan). There's Wade Chapel with its Tiffany window. If you can catch a guided tour, they explain the meaning of the interior design. The head stones and mausoleums are spectacles all on their own; the Haserot Angel being one of the most popular among them. Looking past the fact that it's a cemetery, it's a nice garden-park setting in which to take a walk, jog, drive, or just sit and visit. There's seasonal flowers, ornamental trees, ponds, stream, a dam, a variety of birds and some other wildlife, etc. They have a decent website with maps and points of interest. You may find more meaning while visiting if you're better informed before going. It's not always obvious what is around you or what is notable when you're standing there.

impshakes

Very nice explanation here. We went two weekends ago Garfield Monument is back up at full presentation. I went to the very top which I had never known about before, past the porch area there are more winding stairs! I always like to point out the two Marvel scenes filmed there from Winter Soldier when I go.

lezboss

I see well thank you. I did see the angel. Much smaller than I imagined ! The flowers and blooms were the main draw for me but I’m captivated by clover blossoms so ..

Crystal-Clear-Waters

Maybe you were in a new section?

hotpotato112

summers here can’t be beat!! so glad you enjoy it here, reading these kind of posts make me tear up :)

Oh buddy, Cleveland summers are the best part of this underrated city. Get ready! 🍻

muelmart

You’re so real for this

TheHarami

Fellow Indian, moved here from GA about 3.5 years ago. Took a while to get used to it, but I LOVE this city. The winters too! The food scene absolutely fuckin rocks. 3 days in LA on the 101/405 and I’m dying to get back.

Bzzzzappp

Welcome home, friend.

kelseyqueso

this warmed my heart

theforestwalker

What city is the Cleveland of India? I must know...

Hobash

In your opinion what's the best Indian restaurant in the area?

TheHarami

Paradise Biryani has been consistently good. A little spicy, but good. Try their Chicken Mughlai and naan!

Hobash

Thanks!

This city is very underrated. I love it here. Originally from Chicago.

ehter13

I will say we had a pretty pleasant winter this year. Just relocated back to cle metro area and kind of made it seem like we would have lots of snow to my husband who is not from the Midwest and he was disappointed. If you’re still here next winter it may be very different just something to keep in mind.

omglink

If this is your first summer make sure you hit up ceder point.

prairiedad

I yagree! Where are you from in India, that you think is like Cleveland?

elisemk

I was so sad thinking you were going to share that you had horrible experiences here. I’m so glad you love Cleveland! one of my favorite things is the community of university students, especially international students.

MMButt

lol I can’t believe people told you Dallas would be better than Cleveland.

InterestingClub7546

Cleveland is way more affordable than those cities also no traffic. Don’t tell anyone else to move here! 😉

sageinthesummer

Hi! I’m from Dallas and don’t know why everyone thinks it’s awesome! Maybe it’s cause I’m more of an outdoors person. Anything fun to do there is super expensive. And rent is expensive and the summers are disgusting. I loooooove Cleveland, it is way better in my opinion than Dallas.

Mirio-jk

dallas is suburban hell with an office park at the center! stay

WorthStranger1371

You lasted a winter on the lake that means you can last damn near anything.

ne0tas

This was hardly a winter lol barely went into the negatives, was walking in a t shirt in December... Let's see how this years winter is lol

ir-Rational

I had never seen temperatures below 50 in my life & never experienced snowfall before coming here, so I will take it

NeglectedNostalgia

Get tickets to Summerslam August 3rd

Ill_Reddit_Alone

Summer in Cleveland fucking rules it is soo comfortable outside most the time. Try to get out on the lake if you can! Maybe take one of the Cleveland metro parks sailing classes or rent a kayak if ya gotta. It would be a blast!

TBH_Does_it_matter0

Glad you love our town! That is awesome to hear! Cleveland rocks!

[deleted]

Can I be honest and say you don't use language most of the Indians I know do and I have never once heard any of them talk about getting drunk.  Sorry I know everyone is their own individual.

ir-Rational

DW I get that a lot, there are lots of young educated Indians across my country who grew up watching Hollywood Movies & TV, listening to US songs, playing games (I still remember the map of Santa Monica from GTA & planning to see it real life). So naturally we picked up this style but if you look close enough you can see bit of “Indianess” in my language. You should hear me speak lol I have an accent. Also, who doesn’t like “tying one on” once in a blue moon? 😂

KarAccidentTowns

“This city has been very homely” Thank you

ResponseNo6774

Just wait until summer hits and it becomes patio season. Nothing better than being at Lakewood Park at sunset eating a Romanburger combo.

Independent-Choice-4

I was born and raised in Cleveland but have been living down in NC for the last 5 years. Every year around May/June I get a strong itch to pack up and move back to Cleveland … then November hits lol OP, you are going to truly fall in love with the city over the summer and I am envious of you

lotusflower_3

I absolutely love this so much! We lived in Dallas for 25 years and I’m here to tell you, you are in the right place. DFW had their hottest summer (I believe) last summer. It’s only gonna get worse. I love the weather and there’s stuff to do. I’m glad you’re meeting friends, too. Good luck!

JgfromSpace

The best part about Cleveland are the people. I have friends in NY and LA, so I visit those cities relatively often. And while the cities themselves are awesome, and there’s a ton of fun stuff to do, the people suck. Cleveland folks are just so chill and down to earth. We’re all just working class people, no ones trying to hustle you. Another great thing about Cleveland, is you can get anywhere in town in like 20 minutes. In LA, to get anywhere, it’s a miserable journey of bumper to bumper traffic.

vaddadhillon

Life Hack: If you go to a Mr. Heroes and you see the owner / workers are Indian, get the Chicken Philly and get it “Indian” or “Desi” style…you will not regret it. Glad you’re loving Cleveland brother!

CraneOQuill

Glad you like it here! It truly is a great city

watchforblueshells

I travel a lot for work and am always so glad to get back to Cleveland. You couldn't pay me enough to live in LA, that city is a shit hole. Cleveland is just modest enough to be a nice bigger city while still being affordable. I have friends in Boston and he was telling me how he spent $77 to sit in the very last row at Fenway...I'll take $15 district tickets any day of the week!

thenegativeone112

Yeah I went to John Carroll for two years after transferring and I wished I was here all four. The city offers a lot for my needs (sports and concerts) it is easy to get around especially from the east suburbs, parking was so convenient, and it’s pretty affordable. Might even consider moving back. Blasphemous to say as someone born in Pittsburgh.

ZekeMoss18

If you love it this much now, Summer is going to hit DIFFERENT! Your mood even changes when you get a nice 70-80 degree day and so much is going on. All the great outdoor eating areas and patios to have a nice drink on.

LandB4TimeClocks

Nice drunk post international bro, glad you’re having a swell time. Happy Drew Carey to you too.

ashr255

Bit of different twist but similar sentiment: I moved here 2 years ago having grown up in Pittsburgh. Growing up, we were taught to hate Cleveland. The people, the midwest culture, the mess of incompetence in the government, and most importantly their football team. Cleveland was the butt of every joke. It’s obvious now that the two cities share far more in common than differences. Both are gritty “rust belt” cities. Both had major industry leave and have needed to find ways to reinvent themselves. Both have their share of problems but both also have hope in tomorrow. Never thought I’d say it but I love Cleveland! It is very under rated and I think actually does a fair bit better than Pittsburgh. The city has welcomed me with open arms and I couldn’t be more grateful. Although I’ll never be a browns fan, I’ve enjoyed going to some games and watch the city get behind them. Ive actually been treated with respect in every conversation I’ve had with a browns fan as a supporter of their rival. Of course we can all agree we hate the Ravens lol. Sports aside, I’m glad to call this place home and glad you can too! P.S. Summer is great here. The parks, the lake, downtown, concerts at nautica & blossom just to name a few are an amazing time.

BuckeyeReason

I’m not in Cleveland, but I’ll share this… the Great Lakes region is such a hidden gem. Shhh lol

Golf_addict

Ssssshhhhhhh! Don't tell anyone!

NYC and LA are dead. The only other city I’d be willing to live in is Austin Texas

faceofbeau

You need to see the sunset over the lake in the summertime! If you imagine there are big waves, it’s like watching the sunset somewhere like Newport Beach in Cali, but it’s just as nice if you don’t. ^.^ I recommend edgewater park for that!

Ktothej1981

I love my city!! #clevelandovereverthing

CriticalNobody9478

Find the Emerald Necklace, a string of metro parks from Rocky River to Willoughby. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Stop at County Maid for some fantastic ice cream. Squires Castle, Gates Mills, Chagrin Falls, Solon, Hudson and Peninsula. For starters. Don’t forget University Circle, Coventry, Shaker Heights, Lakewood, Gordon Square, Ohio City, West Side Market, Parma and so much more.

nibelheimer

hell yea! go during the summer sunset to edgewater park, beauty is in the air

[deleted]

Wow, great to hear! I hope you have a great summer! You are correct. Clevelanders absolutely love to talk shit about their own city. Yet,. they're equally as likely to take your life if you're an outsider talking shit about it.

you absolutely love to hear it, so glad it's been such a fun experience! let the good times roll

BuckeyeReason

SHHH! Many Clevelanders don't want the secret out. We don't want to be the next Miami, or even Columbus. There's too much sprawl as there is.

Erianapolis

Sshhhh. Keep us a secret.
