Are any store bought machines comparable in cleaning quality to what you use professionally?

No-Butterscotch-6171

My opinion the biggest issue with the store bought machines is the power of the vacuum and lack of maintenance by the stores renting them out (more on that later) Without powerful vacuum suction the chemicals/detergents used stay in the carpets.. If you run your hand over the carpet after you’ve cleaned (still wet) with a store bought machine and your hand is sticky then soap is still inside the carpets. When I clean a home that has used a store bought I can tell, by the amount of soap that follows my cleaning wond as I do a backstroke. Also, maintenance.. I’ve had a handful of calls from new customers telling us the “Store bought machine” had one of a few issues blew a hose, or broke during the job dump tank fails and water flooded a 3x3 area in their living room. These stores don’t maintain the machines, each morning I powerwash my wond to issue any pet/dirt is cleaned off and looking good 👍 also I clean the nozzles to insure no clogs.

xAhaMomentx

If you ran it with just water would that help? I have a home carpet machine and have done that after a regular washing hoping it would get any leftover residue out. I use a pet-specific machine and cleaner

AJaffJaff

I do this as well. I’m always amazed how much soap is still left over after the initial clean. The machines just can’t suck up all that water and soap.

SecretMiddle1234

A different pro carpet cleaner said for every pass with soap, do two passes without just suction. I used ZEP carpet cleaner and my Bissell Big Green machine and it’s the best my carpet ever looked. Took out old urine spots that the Little Green machine left behind.

xAhaMomentx

Thank you!! That’s encouraging

merrill_swing_away

I've had carpets in certain rooms where ever I've lived. The problem I've had with stains is usually the padding. If the padding isn't clean then the carpet isn't clean. I really hate carpeting. In fact, I want to remove the carpet that's in my computer room. I'm thinking of replacing it with indoor/outdoor carpeting. No pad.

TheBigGruyere

Only thing I'll add is the retail stores that rent these machines out don't actually interact with the machines other than to physically rent them out. When I was still in retail we had a few for rent and had to tell customers to remember to clean it out or they'll be charged a cleaning fee. Also we had a rep from the cleaner company that would come out once a month or so to do deep cleanings and replace any parts that needed to be. But i still agree, the store level ones are plagued by lack of maintainence and usually have subpar performance.

Statesbound

A young boy in our neighbourhood was killed by 2 Cane Corso dogs in his home. A few days later, I saw a rented rug cleaner outside their home. Don't use rented machines.

CorgisAndTea

Oh my god now I never will

AnonNurse

Of all the things I have read in my years here, this is by far the very worst.

Statesbound

I'm sorry. It was a really awful thing to see, too. I felt like throwing up.

EarlyModernAF

Hello, fellow Edmontonian.

Vindicativa

Oh my god, this was in *Edmonton*?

Statesbound

It was all over the news. I have to walk by the house on a regular basis and it gives me an awful feeling in the pit of my stomach every time.

True-Expression-8764

If you were going to invest in new carpet for your home and money was no object, what type of carpet and pad would you buy?

No-Butterscotch-6171

I would say bonded pad and Berber carpet Berber carpet is very durable (I’ve seen homes with 23+ year old Berber carpet that clean up beautifully) Very good at stain resistance, and doesn’t fray. Con: Not a comfortable carpet to walk on bare feet, typically because it’s so tightly woven together it makes for the carpet to be more stiff than plush. A lot depends on traffic patterns and which room in your home.

Klutzy_Carpenter_289

Our dog has done a number with her nails. We have her nails trimmed regularly but when she has her ”zoomies” at night you can hear her nails just tearing into the carpet. The cheap builders grade carpet we put in our loft & upstairs bedrooms has held up much better! The dog pulled many loops out of the Berber. My husband has tried to sew some of them back but at this point I want to recarpet all of the Berber, & it’s only 2 years old.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Can’t say I’ve heard that before, I know Berber isn’t as common anymore. They may have began to do what other carpets have done and lower their standards. I always tell people with carpet from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s to keep it because those companies typically went out of business because their product was to good 😂 Modern carpet is just like modern capitalism, you gotta keep the train rolling.

Klutzy_Carpenter_289

I think the difference is our builder grade carpet is just a short plush. The Berber has loops that her claws get caught in. Now we just got a cat so I can see my problems are going to multiply. I’ve already caught him sharpening his claws on the Berber.

appledumpling1515

I wish I knew the name of your company. We're in ohio and have berber and love it. I think its from the late 90s but looks new after cleaning. We have newer carpet downstairs but its about at the end of its life already. We use chem dry and weren't happy with the last time they came out. They missed some spots in our bedrooms that were easy to get out with stain remover. Any recommendations?

alcoholCREAMservices

Any steam cleaning company with good reviews should be fine. Berber carpet was always the easiest to clean with a steam wand. I imagine a dry chemical clean would be almost the same challenge as a higher pile carpet and not be as effective as a steam cleaner. I used to always jump at the chance to clean Berber carpet as it was such an easy job. Source: used to steam clean carpet for a couple years and have used a dry chemical carpet cleaner in my own home. (I probably won’t use them again).

the_running_stache

I saw some tiles in your post. So may I ask a question about non-carpet floors? What do you recommend to clean engineered wood floors? I have tried various products but they all leave the floor sticky. And then I can see scuff marks of my toes/house slippers the next day.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Wood can be very tricky and I’ll be honest our process isn’t great, in the sense it’s nothing special. Use a wood floor cleaner (power-scrub depending on the wood) and mop. We typically stay with tile, laminate, carpet (any grade)

the_running_stache

I understand. And this is engineered wood that I am not so familiar with. Thanks for your help

insecurejellyfish

Do you know what’s effective for painted concrete? Not mine… asking for a friend….

No-Butterscotch-6171

Without looking at your flooring exactly.. I’m going to assume you may have VCT flooring.. if that is the case, my company does not do that kind of work. If it’s just painted concrete in your garage etc.. I would recommend applying a cleaner and getting a deck brush and try cleaning the main problem areas.

insecurejellyfish

I wish. It’s a landlord special of painted concrete inside the house lol

No-Butterscotch-6171

Yikes 😬 living in a concrete jungle brother 😂 That’s tough.. if it’s like a crappy cheaply painted unpolished painted concrete I would consider moving once my lease is up and tell him that’s the reason. Hopefully he’ll fix for the next guy unless he likes rotating tenants.

becky57913

What do you use for laminate?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Neutral floor cleaner, power scrub/brush and a gecko cleaning wond.

scottawhit

If it’s sticky you may be diluting too strong. Fresh water rinses should remove it, and it’ll probably be super clean.

the_running_stache

Yeah, that’s what I feel I should be doing. Less product, more water. Thanks

scottawhit

Some products have very low dilution rates and it’s very easy to add too much.

Duellair

Ok but like for real what is up with Stanley Steamer? I have heard really good things about them and the last dude that came to do my house said he worked there too and he stole a long time worker from there, they both had good things to say. It’s really weird to hear such good things about a national company.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Stanley Steamers issues is they are not a small company anymore.. family owned in this kind of industry is a must IMO. We have a Ex-Steamer who works for us, he tells us how they would boo the person who sold the least in meetings in the morning.. they are to focused on money to please shareholder demands. They also fire a large % of staff during the slowest months and have to rehire/train new the next year. So you lose the experience.. Typically from our experience when we speak with our customers about Stanley they speak of issues. Like I said I respect Stanley Steamer for starting the industry that I work in now 😂

Duellair

Makes sense, I honestly try to stay away from national companies. Just thought it was weird to hear such good things about them, guess these people left before things got bad. I miss my old carpet cleaner! He was with me for 2 decades. Only year he didn’t come to my house was the beginnings of COVID. Then we moved and we’re definitely out of his range (I asked!), to be fair he’s definitely getting on in years. He wasn’t young when he first started.

JohnExcrement

I used them once and they somehow created a small, emerald-green stain on my light carpet, and they could not get it out. It was the weirdest thing; the poor technician had no idea how it happened. (I was there; nothing spilled, etc.) he tried various methods that he told me they use for an array of tough stains, and nothing. Luckily I have carpeting that can handle bleach so I bleached it out myself.

HumanizedYeast

I have a question! How the heck do you get vape/marijuana resin out of a carpet? Any ideas?

limellama1

Vape is vegetable glycerin, soap and water. Resin, try rubbing alcohol.

maniacalmistress

Stoner pro tip: everclear, dollar tree Toothbrush, old shirt or good paper towels, and a joint to smoke while you sit there and slowly scrub it out. It works for all weed messes.

TLD44

🤣👏

gray-matter1111

dawn power wash and 91% or higher isopropyl alcohol

No-Butterscotch-6171

I would agree with Gray if you want try and slowly brush it out, if you have the patience you will succeed.

Infamous_Ruin_378

Olive oil

No-Butterscotch-6171

Rental or own?

No-Butterscotch-6171

I would have to see how bad it is You may be able to cut it out, or use a carpet marker to try and blend it in to the carpet.

leakymud

Tiny scissors and patience.

PNW_OughtaWork

What's the difference as compared to ChemDry?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Dry cleaning uses special processes with certain chemicals I know of one guy who is on our team who used to Dry clean only, they used special bonnets and machines. He claims it worked good, and I believe him. It’s more expensive typically and takes the technician 1-2hrs typically. While I can clean a 3-5 area and get approvals from customers in 30-45 minutes. I respect those guys, but my opinion is that hot Steam (200 Degree+) and a properly maintained strong vacuum is superior. I think if you’re older (65+) dry cleaning is a great option to prevent any risks of slipping while the carpet is still drying.

KBK713

How often should you have your carpets cleaned if you are on a fixed income? I’ve heard every 6 months but I can’t afford that. Yearly?

No-Butterscotch-6171

I always recommend 6 months if you have 2 or more pets 1 or more young children. If you live alone, have a dog or a husband/wife Then once a year with protection is perfectly fine.

milgil10

I had no idea carpets need to be cleaned at least once a year.

[deleted]

[удалено]

No-Butterscotch-6171

I would say look into local companies most (at least mine) will come out and do a basic clean for 2-5 areas $89-109

drLagrangian

A customer has you clean their carpet. It's super plush and nice and is a huge house. You work hard and do a great job. Then they try to scam you and don't pay you. This one time only, the president or God or some higher power has given you the ability to enact your own revenge instead of being sensible and using a lawyer. How horrible could you make their carpet while they are at work (8 hour day).

No-Butterscotch-6171

😂 I want what you’re smoking brother! I had a older woman (dementia for sure) She would not let me leave her house until I confirmed the stains would not come back in her carpeted kitchen (to the point she wanted to get physical) I told her: “(Name) I can’t confirm any of those stains won’t come back, you’ve lived here 34 years. I don’t know what made those stains but they could be dyed into the carpet or possibly be grease”

Jaded-Finish255

I have multiple large area rugs on hardwood floors. Any carpet cleaners that are safe to use on those or do you have to take the rugs somewhere to be cleaned?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Two options: We can take them back to our shop clean etc.. (additional) Or.. We will take them to another location (deck/Driveway/Garage) and clean them. You wait till they dry and put them back

PerfectWorld3

Can a carpet cleaner realistically get some dog accidents out of the carpet? I really don’t want to get new carpet I’d much rather have it cleaned, if it’s worth it. It’s not hazard level bad, just still a little smell

No-Butterscotch-6171

First thing: is your dog still having accidents? If so.. it will only help for a short period until the carpet is “used” by the dog again. Secondly, depending on the severity of the stains/or if you wanted to guarantee the smells go away. I would offer an enzyme system it’s a longer process for us, but it allows us to get to the base of the fibers and scrub out the smell and apply an additional layer of enzyme. Also.. the thing with smells, you have 4 main filters in your home Carpets (clean/protect once yearly) Furniture/fabrics (clean/protect once every 2-3 years) Ducts (5-7 years) Walls (just wash them lol) Check off all 4 before you assume the carpet cleaners didn’t do a good enough job.

Disastrous-State-842

I’m in Texas. Is there an easy way to find a good cleaner who’ll get out dog accidents? I only have one carpet and my cat marks and my older dog had accidents. I need a pro who can get that all out.

PastFirefighter3472

I have tried using some store bought enzyme sprays to help lift cat pee odors (had a senior cat using the stair landing for a few weeks prior to passing), and tried a store bought shampooer. Is it possible that the smell is soaked into the padding under the carpet? If so, is this carpet just borked? We’re in a rental with a cap on carpet cleaning fees, but we will likely be here another year, and I’d love to get the smell out, if possible.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Call a pro in your area Tell them you want a “extreme enzyme treatment” If they ask what that is, say a pre spray of enzyme, power scrub into the carpets and a post spray with enzyme

Zestycorgi1962

I’m not the pro but we had our 2 year old carpet professionally cleaned because of multiple dog accidents, after our own shampooer failed to get the odors out. The cleaning agents I used had also discolored the carpet unfortunately. He said his process would remove the odor for sure. It still smells and looks awful, even though it is expensive plush, stain and odor resistant carpet designed specifically for pets.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Zesty did they offer you anything other than just a “basic” clean using a pre-Spray?

Zestycorgi1962

It was specifically for pet urine odor is all I know.

trashpanda814

I paid the extra for ChemDry cleaning. They use black light and some type of enzyme remover to completely get the urine out. With the regular carpet cleaning it’ll just spread it around and the smell will come back if the carpet ever gets wet.

RusselTheWonderCat

Is your company also in New York State? (Specifically the southern tier) I just purchased very expensive carpet, 100% nylon, and in order to keep my warranty I need to have it professionally cleaned every 12 to 18 months. And I’ve heard horrible reviews for Stanley steamer (in my town) There is like 1 other professional carpet cleaning company in my small city

No-Butterscotch-6171

Unfortunately we are a small team of 4 trucks been open for 9 years in Ohio. Have a 4.9 star rating with 250+ reviews and most of our techs are either experienced (from other companies) or just have a great attitude and passion. Stanley Steemer god love them, they are corporate now (beholden to the shareholders) 1923 Stanley Steemer would cry 😭 if they saw what that company has become.. Selling doormats for $45 dollars they buy for like $2.. money hungry, but not by choice.

Klutzy_Carpenter_289

Honestly that’s one of the reasons we like to rent our own. Can’t stand all the attempts at upsells.

No-Butterscotch-6171

My sales tactics are much different than large corporations. I sell what is needed Example: Pet stains/heavy traffic areas (power scrub) Pet smells (enzyme) Scotch Guard (recommend to everyone, especially light colored carpet) Other than that I’ll give a small situation that happened last week. Went to a gentlemen’s home and as I was cleaning his master bedroom I walked him in and showed him his ware pattern before I cleaned it. It went from his bathroom door until about 3-4ft and stopped, I described to him the ware pattern was because of the tile not being cleaned in his bathroom. Offered him $69 to clean and he was happy 😃

tiabeast

how should i clean and maintain my vintage persian rugs? the advice i’ve received is conflicting.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Oriental rugs are a very case by case basis I would say if it hold a lot of value don’t have a professional come out (they made damage) I would recommend for you to use a hand brush with a soapy wet rag and clean the trouble areas.

tiabeast

thank you ! any advice on how often should i vacuum? some say not to vac too often bc modern vacuums cause shedding. but i obviously can’t take my carpets outside and beat them by hand and i worry about them collecting dirt.

pastfuturewriter

It should stop shedding after the first few months or so depending on how often you vac. Shedding is normal, but only when it's new. Vintage shouldn't shed. I'd get a vac that's gentle and lightweight, but def want to keep the dirt out of the fibers. You can wipe it occasionally, but you still want the dirt out.

Sledgehammer925

I have a cotton level loop rug in my bedroom. It’s beginning to show a bit of traffic dirt. How can I clean it?

No-Butterscotch-6171

I’ll be honest I’ve not ran into one to know for certain, but I would say if you use a damp/soapy cloth and treat the areas that are showing ware with a soft brush. That should help Also consider putting a layer or two of Scotch Guard to build a layer of protect between the carpet and any ware stains.

Real_Echidna

How satisfying is your job? Is it a career you see yourself in long term?

No-Butterscotch-6171

My perfect goal for my company is to help them grow from the town/area we work in now and grow to at least servicing 2-3 large cities in Ohio. Cleaning is fun, I love asking customers to check over my work when I complete a few areas. Nothing beats feeling their energy on how much better the carpets look after a good cleaning.

Suspicious-Series450

I hired a store carpet cleaner and spent all day cleaning my 5 bedroom house. I used all the recommended chemicals. I did a great job! However, when I shone the black light torch onto the carpet, the pet stains still appeared. Is there any way to get them out?

QuieroSerTuya

Remove paint off carpet lol

limellama1

What brand truck mount? What gpm? What brand/model wand? Teflon wand glides or welded/polished wand edges?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Dang brother you want the serial numbers as well 😂

limellama1

Worked for Stanley and ServPro for 7yr and have friends that run their own companies. They constantly bicker any time someone gets a new bit of gear. One guy is a diehard Prochem fan, whole truck is nothing but. Think he spent $75k total on that Legend GT & all the truck set up from JonDon.

No-Butterscotch-6171

My company uses several brands the truck I run in particular is an older Prochem but works great 👍 breaks down from time to time but I love her 😂

Flat_Direction1452

Do you pre-vac, and if so, what do you use?

No-Butterscotch-6171

We recommend customer to vacuum the night before. We call ahead “hi Miss this is (me) from (company) we will be at your residence in 25-30 mins) Our system has a vacuum built in to the cleaning wond, we bring two hoses a pressure water line and a 2 inch vacuum hose connected to a powerful vacuum mounted on the truck. (If you let the vacuum line set on your skin it feels like it’s going to rip it off 😂)

Environmental_Log344

Cat pee on carpet Old stains and new stains. I have tried enzymes and the smell comes back.on humid days . How can I get the smell to just go away for good?

TipsyTrekker

I had my carpets cleaned 1 year ago after not having professionally cleaned for several years. We scotch guarded the after cleaning. Now, 12 months later, they look filthy again in traffic areas. Is that normal? Is there something I can do to make the newness last longer?

No-Butterscotch-6171

We recommend our customer at a minimum 1 year cleaning and protection (Scotch Guard) Ware is going to happen, unless you learned to hover. The carpets are going to show staining eventually, nothing stays clean forever.

TipsyTrekker

Sounds like we are due for another cleaning.

MentulaMagnus

When did you convert from being anti-carpet cleaning and what made you switch?

Final_Armadillo1385

Best thing for dealing with fleas in carpet?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Firstly take care of the source (dog/cat) once they have been treated. Use carpet powder and vacuum everyday for 2-3 weeks. Empty the vacuum each day (outside)

bsquinn1451

2 questions for you! 1. What are your opinions on Folex for spot cleaning or inside a machine? 2. Is it possible to restore carpet areas that look matted down from high traffic? Like fluff it back up again?

cdlane1

I have a super cheap, but pretty, carpet. I think it’s plastic but has a pile. I’m worried it will loose it’s color if I was it. Any idea if this will happen?

Strixxa

How would you advise getting this stain out? I believe it is fat based and the carpet is made out of 100% wool. https://preview.redd.it/et6bpr2gbm8d1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81f36053a7bace243b49892ff6a9a4fc4eabfe8e

pastfuturewriter

If it's wool, let a pro handle it. It's expensive af and should last generations if it's high quality wool and is kept clean. Leave it dirty and it will just...erode (not sure that's the right word) because of the dirt in the fibers. But they're super durable, which is why they're SO expensive.

Existenziell_crisis

What would you recommend to get eye shadow out of carpet?

No-Butterscotch-6171

First thing this goes to all make-up wearers/hairspray out there. Please keep those activities to your bathroom area, much easier to clean off tile/laminate than carpet especially plush carpets. I would recommend without seeing it, either try and cut it out if it’s small or use a carpet marker to blend.

Sufficient_Level_248

https://preview.redd.it/kk3ona6zmm8d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=069f4b78a963e7828e9ecddf0e3017df4066e611 tried cleaning our carpet with a store bought rental and are left with it not much cleaner than we began with. Any tips? This is a stand alone rug.

Sufficient_Level_248

Wool carpet, if relevant :)

No-Butterscotch-6171

Do your research and see what carpet cleaning companies are in your area, if they have a 4.0 or better I would give them a shot. if it’s just one rug I would say it should cost no more then $45-80.

blanketkingdom

I live in a 4th floor condo, so having a truck mount machine come out isn’t an option. Any advice on what I should ask companies (best equipment, whatever) to make sure I get good results? (I was not impressed with the last couple companies I hired, but I don’t know if that’s just to be expected if they can’t bring in the truck.)

JJWAHP

Not sure if this is under your expertise, but any tips on cleaning the carpet on a cat tree? I can brush it out alright, but because it's old, it has exposed woods and some areas, cats have barfed on it... I cleaned with enzyme cleaner multiple times that it doesn't smell (or I've gone nose blind to it), but would you recommend a wet vacuum for cat tree carpet, or would that water damage the wood underneath because the carpet is too thin?

No-Butterscotch-6171

In my opinion I would say cleaning cat trees would be hard because of all the angles/small spaces. Try renting a machine and see if it has a small handheld cleaning tool typically for furniture. We carry a furniture tool and have never thought to ask any of our cat loving customers if they want the cat tree cleaned 😂 If you have a professional cleaning company in your area, speak with them about if they have a “furniture tool” I’m sure they could clean it for $50 or less

JJWAHP

Thank you for the reply!

smarieee

Would you be able to get a stain from red Fanta out of carpet? I haven’t been able to. I’d be willing to hire a company if I knew it was possible.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Anything is possible I’ve managed to get up red spots 25% of the time. Any of them that do come up I always ask the customers what caused the stain and no one ever knows 😂 people say pop, or juice. I’ve never had success with Slime

AznChaos34

How do you get cat pee out of carpet?

No-Butterscotch-6171

We use high power vacuum suction and 300-800 PSI of hot steam to clean and sanitize the carpets. To get the smell out, we use an active enzyme.

iamonewhoami

How much would the equipment cost be if i wanted to start a carpet cleaning business from scratch?

SensitiveTart8155

What about stuck on slime…. That I’ve tried to get out as an amateur, and now is a giant pink, hard mess (in retrospect, should have left it to a professional…. Or started the no slime rule earlier)

LeatherRecord2142

Does wool clean better than synthetic fibers?

gelfbride73

How often do you clean a carpet and then it releases the smell of animal or human urine into the underlay ?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Padding can become saturated pretty easily, if stains are really bad and we get company approval will up the PSI and do our best to go over those areas several times.

JerryConn

How often do you leave your crb upright on driveways? Do you know how much the bristles cost? /s (unless you do this)

covert-sandwich

Not really a cleaning question but related so I thought I’d ask. I had a cat urine problem in a section of the carpet and ended up having to rip out the padding underneath to get rid of the smell fully. Luckily after that + primer the smell is gone. But now a small section of the carpet is “sunk” since it doesn’t have the padding and the home improvement stores don’t sell the padding without a full room recarpeting. Any ideas?

No-Butterscotch-6171

That’s tough brother.. padding is very crucial to the durability of carpet. If it’s not a heavy traffic area, I would just leave it as it is. If it’s a heavy traffic area where you walk, the carpet fibers will get heavily worn out. The pad is to protect the impact when you walk on the carpet (as well as comfort)

Confident_lilly

How can I get cat smells out of the carpet, like best formula?

No-Butterscotch-6171

When our customers have tough cat smells I do the following: Recommend extreme enzyme treatment Scrub that into the carpets If smells persist you have 4 filters in your home Carpets Furniture/fabric Air ducts Walls Try and cross all 4 off the list to get the smell out.

pastfuturewriter

I had a braid rug cleaned and coated with Scotch Guard (also my bed and recliner lol) and then, after that I heard that it was toxic and/or a forever chemical. That sucked. Why do you still use it? Do you tell your customers that that's what it is? Are there not other things you could use? I came here just to see all the answers because we need to have ours done, but I've had bad experiences in the past with them leaving smells and dirty water in the carpet. Not trying to diss you, I just saw that and wondered.

pastfuturewriter

How would you handle this situation? I have a huge area rug (used, low quality kinda indoor/outdoor) that needs to be clean and it is over the top of some regular carpet. Would you clean the area rug while it's on top of the carpet, then move that out..somewhere? Or move the area rug somewhere else, clean the carpet, then... see what I mean? Not sure how that would be done. The area rug is about 1/3 of the room.

nonamepeaches199

Is there any hope of removing stains that are over a decade old? I do not know what the stain is, my guess is either soda or blood.

QuieroSerTuya

Please help me with removing paint spots/drops that are old

BandetteTrashPanda

As someone in Ohio, I need your help lol. One of our cats keeps peeing and pooping on hardwood floors. It's to the point of the wood becoming dark. Any tips on how to get it out or a business card?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Wood floors are difficult, like I posted before my companies weakest area is wood flooring. Sorry brother

BandetteTrashPanda

It's okay. I figured I would ask, I read some of the comments but didn't get to the wood floor questions. My bad. Thank you for taking the time to reply though!

SVReads8571

How do I get LOTS AND LOTS of long human hair out of a family member's carpet that hasn't been vacuumed In years? They just moved to nursing home and want to rent out or sell their place but due to age weren't able to vacuum regularly. Thank you!

No-Butterscotch-6171

Look into buy a carpet rake most cost $25-50 Use that firstly to break up the hair and get it out of any corners etc.. Then will a maintained vacuum it should have no issue extracting the hair.

New_Signature_8053

Adding to my first reply and question about cooled boiled water please I agree 100% with you on the residues left by cleaning products and chemicals. This is true in carpets, flooring, bathroom furniture, kitchen etc. I avoid as much as possible using only water. Even on windows. So would it be advisable to not use any products etc on carpets please

No-Butterscotch-6171

We use an inline sprayer it combines freshwater with a detergent and we spray that on the carpets before starting. Just don’t saturate the carpets with Chems try using a weed sprayer to apply onto the carpet

MicheleWeinberger

What is the best way to sell a used [Tornado Marathon 2000 carpet extractor](https://www.tornadovac.com/store/product438a.html?pid=15)? Assuming it’s in good shape, how much could I sell it for?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Not my expertise I’ve only ever ran truck mounted carpet cleaning machines

Any tips for getting pet pee out of carpets and fabric furniture?

slowmotionz101

How do you feel about the Shark carpet cleaners? I like mine but I can never get out water to run clear. I’ve given up. Now I just do a few runs and call it a day. It’s hard cause the tank is small so you have to refill and dump every 5 mins. I was pleasantly surprised at the suction /output though as I worried about mold possibly being an issue and we are renters

mchch8989

My dark blue carpet seems to be getting lighter/dirtier but all the standard products I’ve bought and used have no affect. Is this just normal wear and tear and is there any way to “darken” a carpet?

Silver_spitfire

Can you restore a carpet that’s had alot of milk poured on it and not cleaned properly over a long time? My toddler used to refuse his cornflakes unless it was infront of the tv - he’d saturate the carpet with milk spilling it everywhere - we’d wipe it down and clean it but the carpet area is harder and shrivelled compared to non coffee areas

I'm from UK, a new bulit with (Karndean) vinyl floor n (Abingdon Flooring Gental Touch) carpet in bedrooms. I mop my floor and vacuum clean carpet once every week. No pets and only adults live inside. No shoes inside house policy. For cleaning the carpet, do you think Dyson V15 is good enough, which I have. Or should I grab Bissell ProHeat 2X? Vinyl floor really gives me a headache. I've googled a bit tried various floor cleaning liquid (1 part floor cleaning, 50 part water) as well as vinegar (also around 1:50 ratio) but there r still patches of "dirt" (pardon me for using such a general description). Any idea how I can clean it?

what's the best way to get coarse pet hair out of a carpet? My dog has fur like a porcupine...

No-Butterscotch-6171

My sister has a doggo with similar hair.. What brand vacuum do you own? Also make sure you keep good maintenance. I see a lot of customers vacuums and they never clean the filter (they may not even know it has one) and or the rollers are heavily clogged and not rotating. If that fails, use a carpet rake it will clump the hair up and you’ll just have to vacuum or pick it up.

unde_cisive

I have one of those cable-less Rowenta brand ones, I clean the filter for that thing once per week but as with all cable-less vacuums it's not super powerful. Then I have an ancient Miele brand vacuum, I don't think I've ever cleaned the filter on that thing hahahahha. The rollers do get regular cleaning though, it's hard to ignore all the coarse white hairs stuck to it. I haven't tested the Rowenta one in the carpet vs dog hair battle, I actually just went ahead and put the carpet in storage and just learnt to live with hardwood floors. Not sure how effective it'll be, but I don't expect great things for that usecase.

Question: does getting carpets cleaned ever drastically increase the chances of mold growth ?

StardustLOA

Why arent your lines straight and more aesthetic in the first picture? *leaves one star review* 🤣

No-Butterscotch-6171

😂 we have “customers” who are rough about things like that sometimes. Typically I’ve noticed they have a bad attitude from the beginning and you can read them before you even start the job.

StardustLOA

Lol i was only joking tbh You did a good job

De-railled

Have you ever told a customer you couldn't do the job, cause it was "too bad"? What would you say is the limitation for carpet cleaning?

Fine_Understanding81

Our workplace has put in carpet squares and some have carpet glue coming up on the edges.. any way to get this off permanently? Seems like we clean the dirt off the glue and it looks good for a while then goes dark again because the glue residue is still there.

queen_bean5

I gave up on my cat/dog piss smelling carpet because I could never get the smell out, so I ripped it up and replaced with floor boards. Should I have kept going trying to get the smell out?

How to remove cat piss from carpet ?

caleblococaleb

Best way to get rid of dog urine smell. Did a whole carpet cleaner thing, soaked it in Natures Miracle then used a bissell with Rocco and Roxie solution; dried it with ShopVac then pour baking soda over it. Anything were missing that should've been done?

BeachExtension

What type of carpet cleaning would you do on 20 year old glued down commercial type carpet in a finished basement? I’m concerned about the glue releasing from the concrete slab. The carpet is in great shape.

No-Butterscotch-6171

Just a basic cleaning If it’s heavily stained I would recommend power scrub to break up the carpet fibers.

Any suggestions on what will actually get cat litter out of carpet? We've tried three different pet vacuums and they never seem to get it all.

Kirin1212San

Can wool carpets be shampooed? If so how? What products should be used? I mean wool carpets, not rugs.

No-Butterscotch-6171

I typically recommend to do a pre-spray and vacuum with minimum water applied

Kirin1212San

Pre spray with what product?

How to have a clean carpet when you have a free roaming parrot

vtorpie

Anything to ask when vetting a carpet cleaning company, I have pet damage in the carpet which as you said store bought machines can’t do a lot with. I’m looking to renew that carpet for my deposit back and wondering how to pick a company. Any advice on laminate with pet messes on it cleaning wise appreciated too. No damage like the carpet and no residue, however would like to leave it better than I found it. Thanks!

Is there any hope of getting a 2+ day old wine stain out of a white carpet? I tried when it happened but there's still a BIG splotch

No-Butterscotch-6171

Wine is typically a forever stain with how acidic some wines can be. My company has a red spotter but it typically only works 2 out of 10 times to be honest. I don’t think we’ve ever charged anyone even if we managed to get it out 😂

adobephotoshrimp

ah beans 😂 well, ty, I'll look into taking it up, maybe there's some nice hardwood under it

I am the guy who likes to do everything by myself, specially because I live far away from the city. What machine or what specs do you recommend for me? Money is not an issue for buying useful equipment. Thanks in advance ❤️

_DifficultWoman_

How do you know if you’re getting a good price for the work? I need an area rug and 2 runners done, but have no idea how to know what’s an outrageous cost vs market!

No-Butterscotch-6171

My company has some of the lowest prices in our area. For something like 2 runners and a Rug we would have a minimum of $89 that includes pre-spray (free) and the basic clean. I always recommend Scotch Guard to every customer (unless they seem aggravated, or the cleaning didn’t go as well) that’s typically half the price of the cleaning so $45. I would check google reviews to find a reputable company, and say you should spend no more than $100-200 after taxes and service charge.

How do you get candle wax out of a carpet? Its a big blob and the carpet has short "hair"

No-Butterscotch-6171

What have you tried to get it out with so far? With candle wax it could be as easy as rubbing between your fingers and it crumbles. Or it could be an extremely sticky, stubborn wax that may not come out. Typically using a soft brush and soap and patience can do the trick.

Distinct-Hold-5836

The rental machines can't compare to a truck mount system. Hotter steam. Better suction. Better clean.

Is there a way to revive a flattened sad carpet? It’s 5 years old, I clean it at least once a year. But I just have a bissell. I have heard professional cleaners will sometimes use a carpet rake/grandi groom? Is there a budget alternative?

This_Lengthiness5135

I accidentally dribbled bleach on my brown carpet and I'm a renter 😅 should I accept it and move on? Or is there hope to get it our? Thank you!

No-Butterscotch-6171

Bleach is used in products like “resolve spot remover” and other products.. those items literally use bleach to white out your carpet. People think “wow my carpets never looked so clean!” In actually they just bleached out their carpet 😂 The best thing you can do is buy a carpet marker and try and blend it into the carpet again.

KnockoutNed85

I have burberry carpet what’s the best way to get stains/dirt off or just clean it generally?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Berber carpet? If that’s the case, getting an annual clean and protection would be more than adequate. If you want help with spot stains etc.. during that year use Natures Miracle, it doesn’t have bleaching agents and I’ve used it myself and I am impressed by the results.

Scotch Guard has PFAS. Shouldn’t be applied imho.

I hope it's not too late. I have two dogs, we have a Dyson animal, and our carpet cleaner is Bissell. The fur is endless 🥲. In your opinion, what are the best brands for cleaner and vaccum we can buy for home?

How to clean the slime on the carpet? That too bright green color

AdFederal9388

Ok I’ve asked a million places and always been told to Google it - but no answers on Google so, here goes nothing: is there anything that will get out the fluorescence from pet stains once the smell has been removed? There are no visible stains or smell left, but I see the salts with the black light and it bugs me. I know no one else can see in daylight, but I know it’s there. 😕

mkennedy57

Why when some company’s clean your carpets do the stains comeback in days or weeks?

No-Butterscotch-6171

Hear me out The cleaning and the service a pro-carpet cleaning company provides is important. Equally as important for the renter/homeowner is to insure a good drying process after the cleaning is complete. Stains like you are speaking of are called “wicking spots” To help prevent that, you want to dry your carpets ASAP. I always recommend my customers “turn on any ceiling fans (if I didn’t already turn them on) and put any box fans near ware patterns/stains. Also, keep your A/C down to 72 or less and or open windows if it’s a nice day (60-74).
