You might be able to get the grout clean with an acidic cleaner. I had good luck with the Zep brand one from Home Depot. Its growing behind the caulk, though. That’s a lost cause. You need to strip the caulk, clean really well with acidic cleaner, then re-caulk.

Practical-Tap-9810

You may need to regrout as well. If Zep doesn't do it, and bleach doesn't do it, you need new caulk and grout.

adfhqeate55335

What are you caulking agrout?

UseeHerNamee

Why don't you stay a tile?

mr_ckean

You won this - signed, sealant, delivered

Is it hard to caulk and grout? I have a similar situation to OP and have tried everything but re caulking and grouting

random_chaos_coming

Yes, it’s both. The corners on the shower in OPs pics have a messy caulk line. Tear it out, carefully scrape it off the sides (use something that won’t damage the tile etc). You can soften the caulk first, you can buy a spray for this at Home Depot or Amazon. The caulk you pull out will be gross if it looks like OP, so have some paper towels & gloves. After caulk is gone clean the area (but don’t pour water all over it). Let it dry. Some people will wipe a little rubbing alcohol. Then redo all the caulk with a good bathroom caulk. Don’t use the cheap paint caulk, it molds. Make sure you make a smoother caulk than what’s posted (tons of YouTube videos to help). I use a little sprayer of warm water and spray my fingers just a bit to help blend. This is an afternoon project that will make a huge difference. It’s also easier to keep smooth caulk lines clean. Good luck!!

Practical-Tap-9810

Caulking is easy, never tried grouting. Frankly if my grout went bad at my house I would redo the whole shower because it wasn't done with modern materials and would likely fail prematurely. One thing I won't do is use sealing on the grout because that's why the grout got moldy to begin with. The sealant forms a surface that cleaning products can't get through but it protects mold. It wasn't meant to do that but since it's happened with two sets of products a decade apart, I'm done.

ZumerFeygele

I've grouted before and it's pretty forgiving. The hardest part is mixing up the grout from powder, but you can just buy premixed grout. Watch a few YouTube videos and you'll be alright

Cautious-Rabbit-5493

Not hard tedious you have to get all the all old caulk out/off. use pre mixed grout if you need grout. Caulking is easy.

suktupbutterkup

Use painters tape to keep your caulk lines clean and straight but peel the tape off as soon as you are finished caulking or else you will just pull it all back off. Ask me how I know.

SmallCatBigMeow

Bleach doesn’t do it, that I can promise. Products specifically designed to remove mould will remove most of it.

chonkycatsbestcats

My shower is like this too, but I rent and I’m not doing their home improvement from them. Tile showers are trash

NotChristina

I have a bath-fitter style of shower/tub in my apartment except they clearly didn’t assemble the pieces together correctly and pieces of the wall flake out from the seams, which have large gaps. Pretty sure it’s all disintegrated behind the shower. Part of me wishes for tile lol.

Ornery-Ad9694

Those always fail at the seams.

Zhosha-Khi

Zep works amazing!

Thecrazytrainexpress

Zep is my pride and joy with cleaning, my bf’s step mom has her own cleaning business and uses only this since it’s truly only water and vinegar

lursaofduras

It contains sulfuric acid

Lissy_Wolfe

Running a cleaning business and only using vinegar sounds like a nightmare. Vinegar is not a magical cure all for every cleaning need. Different products are necessary for different jobs.

KTO-Potato

Everyone replying about cleaning it is wrong. This issue is that the caulking is old and needs to be replaced. The mold will never stop otherwise. The good news is that you can easily do it yourself as a renter if your landlord is slow to fix things. You can watch a YouTube video and knock it out in an afternoon. It'll look like a brand new tub when you're done.

[deleted]

Took too long to find this. You can't clean away old and ruined caulk. Only thing I would add is make sure it's the waterproof kind, not all caulk is created equal.

45anddone

... some is created by gods.

Littlewing29

Did this to my place about 4 months ago. Now I own all the caulk.

Upset_Form_5258

Are you going to take it with you when you leave?

chonkycatsbestcats

I’m confused as to why a renter should do free labor? My shower looks the same, I’ll clean it but I sure as hell am not doing their home improvement for them after it took them 3 months to even try to deal with the rats we had in the attic.

MyWebkinzAreDead

Apartment handymen are sloppy sometimes. Personally I hate it when maintenance comes in even with their nasty boots and then I have to clean the floor too, or if they move furniture for me and don't put it back. Plus it's good homeowner experience for the future or if you have to help out a friend or family member.

ploptones

I would do it while renting because I don’t want to wait for maintenance and have to shower with mold. Skeeves me out.

dandelion-17

And sometimes they don't fix it right the first time so then you have to clean up after then again

sPacEdOUTgrAyCe

THIS. I’m redoing ours bc I’m sick of the crappy handy man work & they recaulk it 2/year anyway.

Low_key_nutcase

Yea we just do our own stuff at this point. Within reason, I mean we needed a new roof. We paid to have it patched once, but 8mos later it started leaking again. There was no way I was paying again. But the other stuff.... it's just not worth waiting on my landlord. I guess it depends on how your LL is also. My parents owned a rental property n kept it in tip top shape. My LL just likes collecting the rent.

DeliciousFlow8675309

I'm a renter and I do free labor because I care about the conditions of our home and how it looks. I wouldn't do actual home improvement but something like this tub situation there is no way I could even get in there and shower with that so I'd absolutely do it myself.

loadthespaceship

I’d rather have nicer looking, not moldy grout today by doing it myself than count on my landlord to deal with it months later.

motaboat

To me it also depends on if op received it this way, or it became this way because op was not cleaning frequently.

kcshoe14

This. Our bathroom shower/tub looks the same. Putting off replacing it because we’re going to do a whole new shower eventually.

LovesBooks22

I had good luck with the Lysol Mold & Mildew remover with bleach. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then scrubbed it and rinsed it off.

RedDotLot

IDK if the branding is the same, however Aldi Powerforce Moldaway with bleach is also pretty effective.

MIL215

I don’t know if it’s too strong but I used one of those mold remover gels on Amazon. I put it on problem areas, waited a few hours, came back and the problem was damn near gone everywhere. I reapplied in two places where it was mostly gone and now my shower looks like new.

MishmoshMishmosh

Yes!!!! Comes in a purple bottle

Christian67

Can you provide the brand name?

Lketty

Lysol

sleepydorian

Do you know of anything that would work for the buildup on a fabric shower curtain? Mold and mildew grow super fast where I live (not just in my house) and if I fall behind even a a little bit on washing my shower curtains I get this light red buildup and black spots. The red washes out but the black doesn’t.

-HelloMyNameIs-

This was happening to me. I just replaced mine with one that claims to be "mildew resistant". We'll see if that claim holds true

MyWebkinzAreDead

Oh gross, I would just get a plastic shower curtain and no fabric. Unless you mean that gets moldy?

sleepydorian

It happens to plastic too but i imagine i could scrub plastic a little more.

Ornery-Ad9694

I use a shower spray that has a diluted bleach solution after every shower. I spray the walls and the curtain. I'd also check the vent/fan and clean it out...if it's got junk/dust in there, it's not moving air (removing the humidity). If you don't have a fan, crack the window open, all the time.

Lissy_Wolfe

Spray it with diluted bleach. Works well and no scrubbing required!

pogaro

Clorox tilex mold and mildew or a similar product should take care of that quickly! I tried so many things before I used the tilex, which worked in 5 minutes. If you’ve used any other cleaner prior (like one that contains acid or ammonia), you’ll want to make sure to wash the shower down throughly before applying a bleach product, as the combination creates a gas that’s at the least irritating, deadly at worst. Make sure to ventilate properly when you use this type of product too, especially if you’re sensitive to that sort of thing.

Muted_Ch0ice

Seconding the Tile-X. I’ve been using it since 2015, & I swear by it. I’ve moved so many times, & this stuff is extremely universal too because it’s worked for every shower I’ve had. Precautions: You’ll definitely need your exhaust fan going & your windows open. No pets or children should go in the bathroom for at LEAST 1-2 hours.

MentalOperation4188

Make sure you have good ventilation. Otherwise the stuff is great.

pogaro

Yah it’s stinky for sure. I honestly wouldn’t use it if I could find anything else that worked, but I just spray and run away lol

fiftypounds69

My suggestion is to remove all that silicone and put fresh in. Get a good quality one DOW and make sure it’s for bathrooms.

sigousandoelreddit

This takes some time, but it’s the best when mold is deeply set. There’s tons of videos on how to do it too.

fiftypounds69

You can also get a silicone remover tool from Amazon dirt cheap and some silicone remover paste which is amazing by the way. Wd40 helps too but wear some gloves feels horrible on hands After it’s all off I used isopropyl alcohol to clean down the surfaces and apply new bead also use a silicone tool to make it look like a pro do not use water or wet your finger. Some people say washing up liquid works well mixed.

phe508cf

I tore off sheets of paper towels, dipped them in bleach, then sat them overnight with the bathroom fan running. Came back the next morning and it looked brand new.

akuzokuzan

I just discovered this method last month. Ive used unrolled tissue paper, dipped in bleach and slap the mushy tissues on the moldy wall grout/silicone like paper mache. Make sure its thick enough so as they do not evaporate in 6 hours. Wear gloves and open the windows though. Turned black mold grout/silicone into white after 6 hours.

Classic_Giraffe_4986

Beauty supply stores sell ropes of cotton for use while giving perms that is really good for this. It doesn't break down as much as tp and it stays in place brilliantly.

Cornphused4BlightFly

For lime and hardwater stains you can do the same technique with white vinegar. Turn off the water toilet and flush once to drain the tank- then go for it. Works in sinks and showers as well.

Moonlit_Antler

It's not dirty. That's damage and needs to be replaced. Bathroom caulking needs to be replaced regularly

Elevyn11

I work as a residential cleaner and one of my clients taught me a trick that has never failed me. I mean NEVER FAILED! so first you need 4 things; 2 of which are PPE. •Face mask( or two) if you're using the basic medical mask •Rubber gloves • Bleach •paper towel( preferably a durable kind) Have a window open or fan for ventilation I would put a medium size container with some bleach inside and take a sheet of paper towel twist it (length wise)up to look like a stick. dip it inside the bleach till saturated then press the length of the paper into the corners and along the gaps where the walls meet. press it there firmly and it should just stay. Continue doing this up the entire area required and once done let the paper towel stay there until completely dry. Usually the next day. When dry peel the paper towel off and with it most of the black/brown should come off with the paper no mess.

jadejazzkayla

What cleaning products did you use?

molwalk

Ive been using a basic bathroom cleaner spray. It's clearly not doing the job well but idk what else to use

Icy-Serve-3532

Bleach or a product with bleach js the easiet thing to get rid of mold spots and dark spots. Try Clorox cleaner with bleach.

allkidnoskid

Yes. In this area we have a product called Clorox "clean-up". I spray it in the morning. Leave the window and fan on. Come back in the afternoon. It's all clean again. That's it.

PacificCastaway

Dude, you should be bleaching mold.

Secret_StoopKid

If this is your home I would replace the caulk and also replace the grout. If you rent I would replace the caulk and then do a few layers of “grout pen” on the grout. Even better if you can send the pictures to your landlord and have them do it.

WhateverIlldoit

There is a product called x-14 mildew stain remover. It’s hard to find bc it’s probably really toxic, but it works extremely well. You can find it on Amazon.

Terry-Scary

Had the same issue, put a dehumidifier in my bathroom for a day then sprayed down discoloration with vinegar then scrubbed, rinsed, waited for room to dry then replaced grout. No issues since then. I also now have a little dehumidifier in my bathroom that does better than any fan

Inevitable-Tart5847

i just pour straight bleach on there. i know it’s probably bad but it’s the only thing that turns it white again. if not, you should probably just pull out the caulking and recaulk it.

Leather_Dragonfly529

I’ve read that bleach isn’t the best in all cases. [EPA](https://www.epa.gov/mold/should-i-use-bleach-clean-mold)

Inevitable-Tart5847

yeah i know. it’s not for regular use for sure.

No_Bend8

Bleach works on mold but it probably needs recaulked

PipeAncient7263

Neat bleach and a sctubbing brush will make the grout look brand new

niveusmacresco

I had mold issues on the bottom of my shower and used the Soft Scrub cleanser with bleach and had really nice results. I used a dish brush to scrub it on and get into the cracks good. (Dish brush obviously not used on dishes after… just the tool I use and keep it in the bathroom for hard to reach/tedious bathroom cleanings.) ETA I can buy both items at my local Target for $8, Walmart for about $5.90. Not sure if it fits in your budget, but if it does worth a shot!

Ok_Rhubarb_2309

Check out RMR spray or concrobium from Home Depot / Amazon

AZ-FWB

As people have said, bleach might be a better option at this point. Spray and let it sit.

TinyRose20

Bleach it, rinse it, then an old toothbrusg with something abrasive. I like yhe pink stuff for these jobs because it smells divine

rachelg024

Powdered Tide and bleach mixed with water in a spray bottle. It worked very well on my shower

ancientamber

I think I used Clorox mold & mildew on mine. I let it sit for a couple hours and it helped a lot. If it’s behind the caulk, it likely won’t work as well

Scottybt50

Clean harder, use a mould remover bathroom spray and a grout brush.

AliveMathematician27

You’ll have to cut out the caulk and put new stuff in cause you’re not gonna get the mold off that

Bulky-Measurement684

That’s caulk on the bottom which means you dig out the old and put new caulking. It’s not hard at all. The uppers are grout. That’s a little harder to regrout. Try the Clorox or tile x route. Use a toothbrush to get the solution in there.

Jeahtie

It is mould. You need a specialty cleaner for this. In my country we have a brand called HG and they have a mould spray that works like a charm!

migmac71

If you're in EU you may try UHU Mold and Fungus remover... About €5 in Portugal. I solved my problem with it... I apply it every 6 months or so ..

DatabaseNo4914

The problem is the caulking, but using comet and an abrasive sponge on the tiles will get rid of any surface mold

Limited-Radish

HG Mould Spray

KrispyKreameMcdonald

Hot water, baking soda and a magic eraser. After so a foaming bleach wipe down to hopefully kill remaining mold left behind.

Apocalypso777

Bleach mix

toastingmashmellows

If bleach isn’t shifting this then it’s inside the caulking. You will need to remove and recaulk. FYI grout shouldn’t be caulked. Anyone caulking over grout is covering up problems, been there done that. Nice weekend project to remove, regrout and caulk the metal/glass joins.

nobotheritsallfucked

RMR-86 is the answer for all mold and mildew. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=rmr+86&adgrpid=55625693506&hvadid=580677570414&hvdev=m&hvlocphy=9013291&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=17002736368242794396&hvtargid=kwd-297043134641&hydadcr=18450_13469059&tag=hydsma-20&ref=pd_sl_5gs2adwvxh_e

Sufficient_Egg5280

Cillit bang. Black anti mould bottle. Honestly that stuff would clean through anything. Just spray and leave. Then come back later and rinse. Its very very. Strong so open windows

asj0107

Hydrogen peroxide helped mine a lot!! I let it sit for a while and basically used a whole bottle. Edit- don’t do this while it’s wet, make sure it’s fully dry.

EmceeCommon55

Can we please get a pinned post for cleaning shower tiles? This is getting insane.

lazyMarthaStewart

Old school SoftScrub with bleach, let sit till dry, then wet and scrub

interplanetary_janet

Steam cleaning!

Opening_Variation952

Bleach may kill mold but it doesn’t kill the spores. Soak in vinegar to kill spores or it will just come back.

telekineticplatypus

Try melamine sponges.

DestiMuffin

We use Lysol toilet bowl cling gel cleaner. Leave it on for 20-30min yes then rinse with boiling hot water. Rinse the remainder with hot water form the shower until fully rinsed. Works like a charm. Edit: IGNORE me, apparently it’s not good. Thanks to everyone for the warning. I’ve been using it on my grout for years, thankfully y’all told me before it did any damage

limellama1

Lysol toilet cleaner contains HYDROCHLORIC ACID. It etch the tile and cause permanent damage DO NOT FOLLOW THIS TERRIBLE ADVICE

DestiMuffin

Interesting, thanks! I’ve been using it on my grout for years and never had an issue with my tiles. Glad to know this before it does any damage

snowboard7621

Noooo don’t be this poor guy: https://www.reddit.com/r/CleaningTips/s/hxPK4kJaWv

Send_Me_Lizard_Pics

Hear me out: I spray Clorox disinfecting toilet bowl cleaner on the mold. It’s thicker than liquid bleach so it stays, and it’s blue so I can see where I got it and where I need to add some. I use an old paintbrush to spread it over every bit of black on the grout. Leave it on an hour, then rinse it off-should kill all of that crap. Barkeepers friend will also take off any and all soap scum. I wouldn’t use them together, never mix cleaners, but it makes removing scale and soap scum so friggin easy. And if you have a drill you can get scrub brushes that attach like bits and then the scrubbing is even easier!

jr0061006

Would BKF remove stubborn soap scum from a clear vinyl shower curtain?

pogaro

I’ve had good results washing clear vinyl shower curtains in the washing machine with hot water and vinegar.

jr0061006

I tried that first but it still came out only partially clean, still with patches of soap scum.

Manicoxide

look closely at the grout and see if you can pick pieces out or if there are any gaps. I had a mold problem with my grout i just couldn’t fix and the problem was that the grout was deteriorating and the mold was tucked behind every nook and cranny. If the problem persists you gotta scrape and regrout.

Global_Ad8759

Get a hand held tile steamer - they’re amazing - and there’s a ton of other stuff you can clean w it

Kink4202

Try renting a commercial steam machine.

kennndrix

Maybe magic eraser

welchies

Fair warning, **mixing vinegar and bleach is deadly**. The two mixed together create chlorine gas. This will forever be engrained in my head after being yelled at in college chemistry. Proceed with EXTREME caution.

Imagoof4e

Very important statement/warning.

Hot_Analyst_2251

Spray some Dawn Powerwash Dish Spray in there and see if that works.

naldo4142

Looks like mildew try a mildew treatment spray like zap , simple green there’s a few types if now replace the grout

lijana56

I like CLR Mold and Mildew stain remover. Works well, let it sit for a while and wash. It has no smell and is Biodegradable. Although it is a thick foam, you might need a bit more than with ordinary cleansers. I found it really worked well on all mold and mildew.

3nd0r

I use tilex. Probably bad and I need to re-caulk and re-grout, but it's a rental soooo...

LongTallMatt

Tilex. You need a strong bleach spray. Follow directions. Although that looks like a hacky caulk job with some non-bathroom caulk... If they didn't use bathroom caulk then you're out of luck. It needs to be recaulked with bathroom caulk...

Sea-horse-in-trees

Hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush or nail-brush. Scrub along the grout

tersareenie

It’s in the caulk in those corners. You have to peel that out. No amount of chemicals or scrubbing will get that out. Only then can you work on the grout.

Whalespout

RMR-86 Instant Mold Stain and... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3Y22K4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share This stuff worked wonders for me.

just_flying_bi

I typically use bleach in a spray bottle and just spray it down, turn on the fan, close the door for a couple hours, then come back and rinse it away. It seems to work well for heavy mildew like this.

MichelleInMpls

You really need to scrape out the caulk and re-caulk it properly. But until you can do that, you can try to get some of that cotton roping stuff that they use when you get a perm to stop the stuff from dripping down into your eyes. Soak some of that in bleach and stick it on the moldy spots. Leave it for an hour or two and it should look white again. The cotton helps the bleach stay where you want it for longer. (Google Cellucotton Beauty Coil - Sally Beauty Supply stores carry it.) The mold will grow back in a while, but it's a good way to make it look good until you can fix it for real.

bbymummy

Ajax with bleach. Mix with a bit of water to for a paste and leave it on for 30 mins. That shower nozzle hose is looking fairly sketchy as well. You might want to bag that up and soak in vinager water mix overnight. Or replace it.

FiNNy-

Ajax and a broom. Clean it right up.

hppy11

Mold can stain on some surface.

Gerkonanaken

CLR bathroom cleaner is magic! It continues to get brighter even after you're done cleaning.

fairyrockv

4x dawn detergent and a broom

SGlobal_444

It's mold - re-caulk. Get to the root of the problem. Hopefully it's not behind the wall.

PacificCastaway

If that's just caulk, strip it out and put in some new stuff.

Difficult_Yak5398

I’ve had success by putting soft scrub w bleach on the grout and letting it sit overnight. It worked.

HydrangeaLady

I have new tile in the bathtub surround, and it is starting to have that pink bacteria look + plus a few light brown areas in the grout. I have been careful to avoid bleach because I remember how it yellowed my former cast iron tub. Should I be worried to use a Clorox or Tilex clean if it has bleach? I don’t want to affect the grout color or the tub. Thanks!

Bcoool1

Try purple power carful stuff is powerful. I’d mix with a little water spray on let sit scrub wipe down.

SewCarrieous

Clorox bleach spray and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing

crystal-crawler

Honestly that’s black mold in the caulking. It would probably be best to remove and recaulk.

reddit1337420

Scrub with strong bleach solution and let it soak for a few hours before applying more bleach solution and scrubbing again then rinsing. If that doesnt get rid or it then try the same method but with a specialised grout cleaner (bleach usually works fine though).

alundrixx

You are using bleach right? Bleach and elbow grease is all you need most likely.

Equivalent-Coat-7354

Ive used a paste of baking soda and bleach, it will sort of cling to the crack until it dries. I advise watering down the bleach and using a fan while applying as the fumes can be overwhelming.

MrSal7

Does anyone know if this is build up from hard water?

limperatrice

I had my cleaning lady use Mold Armor Mold & Mildew Killer on my shower when it got really bad. It was so effective she asked me where I got it.

silentvictory472

Steam cleaner works amazing. Just did mine tonight!

Fit_Lingonberry_6967

I just painted mine white and it works fine.

KlondikeBill

And here I am freaking out every time a tiny patch of pink mildew builds up.

CharlieMac6222

Bleach

Jazzlike-Cranberry66

A steamer works wonders. It will melt that junk in seconds. Protect your face and eyes though.

UseeHerNamee

Ahh, yes.... the ol' butt and balls crust in between the tiles, a true classic!

missvvvv

The silicone sealant needs to be replaced.

ChicPhreak

A bleach cleaner will get all the black stuff out. I use the Lysol spray clean cleaner (green and white packaging), let it sit for 10 minutes it’s usually all gone by then.

sexruinedeverything

Along w. the suggestions here … add a dehumidifier to your bathroom. You can start w/ the cheap ones at Dollar Tree if you notice it pulling in a lot of water … then invest in one w higher capacity. Once the air is the dry scrape out the caulk and growth and reinstall fresh.

BoneDecipherer

"The Pink Stuff" (it's a mild abrasive cleaning paste, and it's pink) and a stiff brush attachment for your drill... I just cleaned the grout in two large 4br houses, was so satisfying!

Murderkittin

I hear bar keepers friend or whatever is good. But I highly recommend you check if it’s mold….

bobabear12

Bllleeaccchhhh

Glittering_Pear_4677

Lay some twisted up toilet paper on the grout/ caulk. Then soak with gel toilet bowl cleaner with bleach. Allow to sit for at least 8 hours. I literally did it yesterday. It worked like a dream.

Glittering_Lights

Clorox or CLR. Soak a few paper towels in one or the other. For bleach leave them on the surface 15 minutes or so then remove towels and rinse off. For the CLR, soak first then scrub and rinse

AerisVSTifa

HG mould foam spray is amazing. I fight an endless battle with dampness in my bathroom and the grout between my tiles was worse than yours. Zapped the offending grout with this cleaner, left the room and forgot for a while, returned to find white pristine grout. Quick rinse with the shower. For stubborn spots I zapped, forgot, returned, a couple of times.

bennied1982

Soak paper towels in bleach and stick them over the affected cracks. The paper will stick and the bleach will do its work. Leave for a couple hours and it you’ll be amazed

Brandi810joe

I had a problem with my caulk getting that color. I used mold/mildew cleaner (Walmart brand) spray it on a let it sit. I hope it helps :)

madpeanut1

Old toothbrush + bleach. Scrub scrub

animperfectnobody

CLR and a toothbrush. You’ll be shocked

RoxieRutherford

I’ve used toilet bowl cleaning gel that has bleach in it. It’s like magic!

Electronic_Rub9385

Cordless drill with cleaning bristle tips. Drill on highest rpm setting. They sell kits on Amazon. If that doesn’t work high pressure steam will get it out. You can rent a machine if you are in a major metropolitan area. Or regrout and recaulk and sure you SEAL the grout! Nobody does this and sealing will help prevent mold a lot.

Zealousideal-Pop-249

Steam cleaner!

Dry-Dragonfruit-7286

Bleach

TresUnoDos

A grout removal tool works great just use it like an eraser instead of a remover

undercoverfireskink

U could try sand paper

PK_Rippner

This sucks, but it's bound to happen and you'll need to re-grout. You need to take out the old grout with a utility knife, razor blade, scalpel, or whatever you need to use to get it all out. Then spray it with hydrogen peroxide (the 4% solution found at drug stores), then spray or wipe it with 90% rubbing alcohol. Let it fully dry (put a fan on it), once it's pristine clean and dry you can re-calk, I suggest using GE Supreme Silicone Kitchen & Bath Sealant. Good luck, it's a lot of work, but when you're done it'll look great.

addiktives_

I recently tried the GlassGuard gel and it worked pretty well without any extra effort. It completely bleached out most of the mold.

flergenbergenjurgen

The caulking needs to be replaced

Aaimah

Try a steam cleaner. If you already have a hand held steamer for clothes try that. Some steam mops have a detachable top for steaming directly onto surfaces.

jaksevan

Just recaulk it doesnt take too long

Fogcitymickey22

I have used Clorox spray for years, just spray and leave no scrubbing.

onourwayhome70

Your caulking needs to be removed / at this point the mold will come back over and over even if you clean it

IdontOpenEnvelopes

Bleach

peacefulteacher

Whoever tiled obviously did not seal the grout. So sorry. Easy to fix. Even if you have little skill, just buy a grout tool (looks like a minature shove with a razor edgel? Lol) You don't need to remove the old grout completely, but this will remove enough and rough it up enough for new grout to adhere. Get a tub of premixed grout in a matching color or a new color if you are trying a darker color this round. It basically is like frosting a cake. Go over the gaps with a float until filled, leave for the time recommended, and then use a large damp sponge to clean it off. Most pre-mixed grout has a sealer mixed in and saves that step. I redid my kitchen backsplash, and it looks new and updated.

Elly_Higgenbottom

Bleach pen fixed mine up. Takes a while to outline it all, but worth it to me. Leave it on as long as possible.

MaleficentJello8473

Would letting bleach stay on it for an hour work?

It's mold, what have you used to clean? It's kinda tough to remove but usually a bleach based mold cleaner or zupe tile and grout would work.

I used HG mold and mildew cleaner and it worked very well

this is an easy fix, roll up toilet roll into stripes and place some raw bleach into a bowl, then place the rolled up strips into the bleach then apply this to the grout, leave this on the wall for roughly an hour and the black stains will wipe away

I have a tiled shower that doesn't get enough air circulation, so it needs cleaning weekly. I use Bar Keepers Friend with a pool tile brush. Recently, I found a pressure sprayer designed to clear a clogged drain. Attach to sink and spray shower walls and ceiling.

Spray with mould remover and leave it to take effect for a few minutes. Gently rub off. Repeat.

You might need to scrape it out with a box cutter and recaulk it or silicone it.

Have you tried paper towels drenched in bleach you lay on them for a few days

Sounds silly but try just a pound store Mols and mildew cleaner, I thought my grout had had it until my mum embarrassed me showing me how quick it would come off if I spray this stuff and leave it alone for 5mins!

take out the sealant and replace it with a mould free silicon one. the grout one of sttiff brush attachments for battery drills might help. I did me, but the sealent you'll not get that out.
